    Broadwell & Thomas; The Marines’ naked-photo scandal shows military culture is still sexist

    Paula Broadwell and Kate Hendricks Thomas take to the pages of the Washington Post to announce that the antics of some members of a Facebook page are proof that the military culture is still misogynist. I guess that Paula Broadwell is proof that female military officers are all out to bang general officers.

    Broadwell had certainly encountered vulgarity and sexism, both subtle and overt, in an ongoing military career that goes all the way back to West Point.

    So she lived up…or down…to expectations?

    “Marines United” is a symptom of a gender hierarchy in the military and, sadly, the broader society that it draws from. But unlike other habits that the military efficiently drills out of its members, there’s no effort to do the same when it comes to sexist behavior. How is it that boot camp can alter everything about an individual except, apparently, their retrograde view of women?

    You know what? There probably are people in the military who are sexist, but then so are their peers who are currently enrolled in college. Maybe the problem is not the military culture, but the overarching culture from where these youngsters come?

    Rape and sexual assault is more common on college campuses than it is in military barracks. Sexual assault is a problem and it shouldn’t be encouraged, but I don’t see the Pentagon encouraging it. They’re paying more attention to the problem than America’s college campuses seem to be.

    In my humble opinion, what Paula Broadwell has done encourages sexual assault and she should probably find another line of work.

  • A French sniper and a negligent discharge

    A police sniper took out a waiter and an event employee at French President Francois Hollande’s inauguration of a high speed rail according to AFP;

    “It was an accidental shot by a police officer which injured two waiters, or at least one waiter and an (event) employee. The injuries aren’t life threatening,” local government chief Pierre N’Gahane said.

    “The bullet grazed one person’s calf and then lodged in another person’s leg,” he said, adding that the victims were in a VIP area next to where Hollande was speaking.

    The officer, who was helping to provide security for the president, was standing on an elevated point, N’Gahane said.

    He made a “mistake in handling while changing positions”, an informed source told AFP.

    And that’s why you always keep your booger hook off of the bang switch, kids.

  • Navy veteran killed during “welfare check”

    86-year-old Korean War vet Eugene Craig thought burglars were breaking into his home when he heard banging on his front door and saw flashlights outside his windows. When the intruders forced their way into his home through the back door, he met them with a .38 caliber revolver, unfortunately, the intruders were Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputies attempting a “welfare check” on the octogenarian and his ninety-year-old wife. The officers say that they told Craig to drop the gun three times before they shot him four times. From Bay Area NBC;

    “If you’re there at someone’s house to check on their welfare, why do you kick two doors down at night time when my client is 86 years old, his wife is 90, and they live alone at that house and they have for years?” asked [Dennis Luca, civil attorney].

    A family friend who says he’s known the Craigs for decades and was outside the home at the time of the shooting raises similar questions about whether the deputies followed proper procedure and their own policies.

    […]

    That “wellness check” was not because of any reported crime and it ended up in the shooting death of Craig as he stood inside his own home.

    The official press release from that incident released by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office right after the shooting says the deputies went to the 1200 block of Titus Avenue around dusk on September 12, 2016, believing an elderly person inside had medical issues.

    The Sheriff’s official news release says that after calling out for about fifty minutes, deputies tried to force their way through the front door.

    Because the door was steel encased the deputies couldn’t force entry and so the news release says they tried another location and went through a side door.

    There they found Eugene Craig who, according to the official news release “displayed” a .38 caliber revolver, prompting Sergeant Douglas Ulrich to shoot Craig where he stood in his own home.

  • Shawn Daniel; first responder stolen valor

    Shawn Daniel; first responder stolen valor

    St Louis, Missouri medic, Shawn Daniels has previously claimed that he was at the Boston Marathon when the terrorist attack occurred a few years back. I guess he garnered a lot of attention because of his claims. According to Fox25, it was recently discovered that he was no where near Boston that day;

    The department found that Daniel falsely claimed he ran to the scene and was instructed by the National Guard to move patients. St. Louis Fire officials say they determined Daniel was never on scene and did not provide any medical assistance to bombing victims.

    The St. Louis Fire Department also determined that the photo Daniel showed his bosses was actually of a Boston firefighter treating an injured civilian at the finish line — something FOX25 reported last month after Investigative Reporter Eric Rasmussen went to Missouri in search of answers.

    Daniel’s former manager in New Hampshire and others told FOX25 Investigates last month the 31-year-old paramedic was never there that day.

    On the day of the Boston Marathon bombings, Daniel was working in New Hampshire as a paramedic for a private ambulance company, American Medical Response.

    St Louis Fire Department issued the following statement;

  • Kanónes Anarchía

    Anarchy rules…. Well, not quite as much as the wannabe anarchy crowd likes to pretend it does.

    We’ve all been witnessing the violent and noisy public disturbances over the prospect of one person appearing some place – any person, any place – and none of it makes any sense. The ‘protesters’ – and I use that word with caution – don’t want to allow anyone at all with opposing views to even have a chance to speak, not even those whose views are of a mild opposition . They carry signs that can only be described as inciting riot and destruction: ‘Become ungovernable’?? Umm, what??  The Anarchist Alliance?? Huh??  If you’re a true anarchist, there is no alliance because a true anarchist hates and despises organizations. An alliance is an organization, so how can they….? Oh, never mind!

    Refugees?  I can find lots of photos of refugees from the Spanish Civil War that started in Spanish Morocco in the 1930s and spread to the mainland, and there won’t be a whole lot of difference between then and now. Generalissimo Franco was a right-winger in the Canary Islands who urged .the Spanish military to join the uprising.

    A lot of people who were seen as some kind of threat were brutally executed. Spain’s greatest poet, Federico Garcia Lorca, was hauled out of his house and shot by a firing squad. He wrote poems like this:

    El remanso del aire
    bajo la rama del eco.

    El remanso del agua
    bajo fronda de luceros.

    El remanso de tu boca
    bajo espesura de besos.

    This is the advantage of the internet now: the loud, screeching social justice howler monkeys with an agenda can’t stop the online opposition that exposes them for what they are: cheap anarchist-wannabes, people whose lives are built on ignorance, rumor and innuendo, and who cluster around each other in their herd mentality in a way we haven’t seen since the 1930s, when Adolf Hitler started using radio and film to lure people into his clutches. Lack of the kind of constant exposure he’d get now is what allowed him to climb/claw his way to the top of the heap in the Reich that he was setting up, and the destruction that followed it.

    Hitler controlled the German media in the 1930s. Who controls the media now?

    WE ALL DO.

    I think the best possible thing to do is give these idiots more exposure than they can handle, clearly show that there is no ‘message’ at all, just a hodge-podge of anger-driven people letting us know they’re all pissed off about some poorly-defined something, and make sure that everyone knows the violence is not only obvious but also planned, maybe by those ‘black bloc’ gangbangers.

    That’s the gist of it: make sure that everyone knows what it is, that it’s clearly anarchy, clearly property destruction and vandalism under the guise of attempted social justice, and that it is more of a threat than we could possibly imagine. The more exposure they get, the better, whether it’s by the left-leaning media fawning and drooling over them like horny girls at a headbangers concert, or the opposite side of that coin, the right-leaning media standing back, taking it in and asking questions like ‘Are you seriously NOT calling this a riot?”

    I hope you can understand where I’m going with this attitude. We can find the links to all sorts of peculiar stuff, post it, make remarks about it, and shake our heads. There are media outlets everywhere now, from the serious side to the goofs. They are all giving this inchoate, mooing, noisy herd of midget-brained cattle as much exposure as possible while those of us who are still somewhat sensible watch and wonder how in the blue-eyed world these crazy-pants twits think that they are even vaguely attractive to sane people.

    Here’s a good quote from WaPo about the kerfuffle over Ivanka Trump wanting to take a fitness class at a gym in Washington, DC:

    “Social media, the great enabler, enabling people to make fools of themselves everyday.”

    That is a classic. It must have something to do with the gym owner’s shooting off her mouth, thinking that she’d gain some points somehow with the libertards, when in fact, it only backfired on her.

    This is the problem with social media. You shoot your mouth off, thinking it’s just you venting and no one is really watching. No thought is given to the consequences of being a snotty jerk with an agenda.  But people are watching all the time and not all of them are so understanding about being rude to a customer, or destroying someone else’s property over nothing, or throwing what appears to be a public temper tantrum that would embarrass a five-year-old.

    Shutting down emergency vehicles on public highways? Destroying businesses because you can? Saying anyone who disagrees should be killed?

    Those who say and do these things are legally adults.

    Their parents must be so proud.

  • Trump remembers Blumenthal’s Stolen Valor

    Trump remembers Blumenthal’s Stolen Valor

    I thought we, here at TAH, were the only people on the planet who remember that Dick Blumenthal lied about his military service until he was finally busted in 2010 when he ran for a Connecticut Senate seat. He had claimed for decades to be a Vietnam veteran, but, in truth, he’d never left the US during his time in the reserves, after he used up his college deferments.

    I guess Mr Trump remembered, too;

    Our buddy, Katie Frates, at Daily Caller has the whole story. Every time Blumenthal opens his trap in public, the media needs to remind him that we know he’s a liar.

    Yeah, I know, Trump has trouble with his own Vietnam-era service, too, but at least he never lied about it.

  • Esteban Santiago, the Ft Lauderdale shooter

    Esteban Santiago, the Ft Lauderdale shooter

    Esteban Santiago

    Yesterday, Esteban Santiago, flew into Ft Lauderdale airport on a connecting flight from Minneapolis on his way from Anchorage, Alaska where he’s been living recently. The former Puerto Rico National Guardsman, who had recently been discharged with a General Under Honorable conditions discharge, then took a firearm out of his checked luggage and the ammunition, charged the weapon and began shooting the people who were waiting or their own luggage. He killed 5 and wounded eight people.

    According to Heavy, Santiago had walked into an FBI office in Anchorage and told the agents that voices in his head were urging him to support ISIS.

    Law enforcement sources told CBS News that the FBI contact came in November 2016, when Santiago walked into an FBI office in Anchorage and told agents he was being forced to fight for ISIS. He was hospitalized in a psychiatric facility after police were called there. “He also said his mind was being controlled by the CIA to watch ISIS videos,” reported CBS News.

    One of CNN’s experts suggested on television that some have interpreted the hand signal in the above photo as potentially being an “ISIS finger sign,” although that is far from proven. A 2014 report said ISIS fighters were “now using a single, raised index finger as the symbol of their cause” that refers to the tawhid, “the belief in the oneness of God and a key component of the Muslim religion.” Again, this is far from clear in Santiago’s case, and his finger signal could mean something else entirely.

    Piro confirmed the FBI contact. He said in the news conference that Santiago came in voluntarily and spoke with FBI agents. “He (Santiago) clearly stated he did not intend to harm anybody. However, his erratic behavior concerned FBI agents who were interviewing him… he was taken into custody by the local police and taken to a medical facility for a mental health evaluation,” Piro said. “We looked at his contacts and did our inter agency checks and at that point” the case was closed.

    Yet, he was still in possession of a firearm. And his family is blaming his behavior on his deployment to Iraq.
