  • Reid lards up defense bill with immigration reform

    Reid tries to sneak immigration reform measures through the Senate by adding them to the upcoming defense bill, according to CNN;

    Reid called the DREAM Act “really important” and said it should be passed because it provides a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military. DREAM is an acronym for Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act.

    “I know we can’t do comprehensive immigration reform,” Reid said at a news conference. “But those Republicans we had in the last Congress have left us.”

    Many Hispanic voters are angry with Democratic leaders for not doing more to pass an immigration overhaul. The decision by Reid to add the DREAM Act now could help soothe that anger.

    And, of course, when Republicans vote against the immigration reform, VoteVets will write a piece on Vets Voice about how Republicans voted against funding the troops. Reid is only doing this to earn himself some votes in Nevada.

  • The Left and 9-11

    While we pause to remember the people who died nine years ago this morning in New York City, Arlington, VA and Shanksville, PA, it is hard for me to avoid reflecting on the total morons who’ve sullied the memory of that morning. Like this dink at Democratic Underground who tried to demonstrate to us that Rosie O’Donnell was right that fire can’t melt steel.

    Or the mental midgets at Veterans Today who tell us to NOT remember 9-11.

    Or the Southern Poverty Law Center which prefers that we remember 9-11 for the supposed bigotry it spawned.

    Or the Iraq Veterans Against the War who ask us to remember who we were BEFORE 9-11. Since they block us, here’s a sample;

    I’ve seen the effects of the nine years since September 11th, and the biggest damage has not been in the loss of the towers, or even the loss of life. The greatest damage, as in ancient Greek tragedies, is not in what others do to us, but in what we have done to ourselves. We prided ourselves on our civil liberties as a country, but now our words, our books, and our movements can be watched without any justification in the name of Terrorism. We talked of openness and tolerance in every part of our lives-but now, in the heart of New York City, prejudice rears its ugly head and people who should know better conflate a religion with an act. We are losing the best parts of ourselves out of fear.

    Yes, the worst result of that day was this supposed bigotry and not the loss of thousands of innocent Americans who were punished for merely being Americans, or more accurately, being in America that day. And I guess that’s not a form of bigotry at all, is it?

  • Hartford City Council meetings to open with Muslim prayers

    I’d file this under “something that has nothing to do with anything”; the Hartford Connecticut City Council has decided that the way to beat the people who oppose the Islamic Center near Ground Zero is to begin each meeting with a Muslim prayer. (MSNBC link)

    “One of the goals of the Council is to give a voice to the many diverse peoples of the City, which is especially important given the recent anti-Islam events throughout the country.”

    That’s pretty stupid, if you ask me. Since when is the purpose of government to “give a voice to…diverse people”? I really don’t care if it’s a Muslim prayer or a Buddhist chant…but don’t cloak your purpose in language to make you seem more tolerant and intelligent than the rest of us.

    [City Councilman Luis ] Cotto said that his goal in having an Islamic prayer was to speak out against what he called “the current wave of Islamophobia” in this country.

    Oh, that film student who attacked a cab driver in NYC? How is that a “wave”, Lou?

    It wouldn’t even matter except that they’ve probably never opened a city council meeting with a Christian prayer and never will, since Christians don’t fit in their mold of “diverse peoples”. The article doesn’t mention whether they have opened any of their meetings with Christian prayers. I’m just taking a shot in the dark here.

    Oh! My mistake – according to the Courant, they plan to have a saxophonist play “Amazing Grace” Well, that’s different :eyeroll:

    The Hartford City Council is a bunch of kiss-ass liberals who are only doing this so they get bombed last.

  • Washington Post just sucks

    The Washington Post is a slimy tankard of scum with half-wit writers and brain-dead editors. Ranger Off-Spring (ROS) sent us this article from the Post about the death of a Medal of Honor recipient, David Dolby.

    The Post can’t help itself from writing about his difficulties adjusting to civilian life after four tours of Vietnam. I’m not going to repeat that garbage here, you can read it yourself at the link.

    I don’t remember the Post recounting John Murtha’s obvious connections to the ABSCAM investigation, or mentioning Ted Kennedy’s waitress sandwiches in their reports of the deaths of those two. Yet a Medal of Honor awardee gets two mentions of his check fraud arrest in 1974 (1974, for Pete’s sake) in a single article.

  • What Is Sean Penn Up To in Haiti?

    Far-left actor Sean Penn has been attacking rapper Wyclef Jean in recent weeks over the latter’s desire to run for President in Haiti (he has been disqualified however). Sean Penn made this self-righteous blog post on HuffPo attacking Jean, in which Penn spends just as much time pumping himself up as he does explaining why Jean isn’t qualified. Penn also made these comments in an interview with Larry King:

    “This is somebody who’s going to receive an enormous amount of support from the United States, and I have to say I’m very suspicious of it,” Penn, 49, who has been running a 55,000-person tent camp through his J/P Haitian Relief Organization,

    Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think a guy who has spent most of his life as a rapper and who ran a corrupt charity is qualified to run a country, much less a Burger King. But at the same time I have to wonder why Penn is really attacking Jean. Its no secret that Sean Penn has a hard-on for Hugo Chavez and considers him a friend.  Chavez has been trying to expand his influence throughout South America and the Caribbean by supporting politicians that would be sympathetic to his socialist ideology.  I would not consider it a stretch that Penn would be working to support a candidate that would be more friendly towards Venezuela and the Chavez regime. Discrediting Jean would no doubt strengthen any candidate that Penn and Chavez find acceptable.

    Tell me… am I full of shit and Sean Penn really cares about the people of Haiti or is Sean Penn helping to install a Chavez-friendly regime in Haiti?

  • A keen eye for the obvious

    The Associated Press, famous for their “unexpected” headlines over the last several months in regards to economic bad news, has a headline this morning warning of more bad news; “Snapshot of Economy About to Get a Lot Bleaker”. Notice that it’s not the economy that’s getting bleaker, just the “snapshot” of the economy.

    So why is the “snapshot” getting bleaker? Well, because the government is supposedly ready to admit that Joe Biden has been wrong and we’re in economic dire straits.

    The Commerce Department on Friday will revise its estimate for economic growth in the April-to-June period and Wall Street economists forecast it will be cut almost in half, to a 1.4 percent annual rate from 2.4 percent.

    That’s a sharp slowdown from the first quarter, when the economy grew at a 3.7 percent annual rate, and economists say it’s a taste of the weakness to come. The current quarter isn’t expected to be much better, with many economists forecasting growth of only 1.7 percent.

    Such slow growth won’t feel much like an economic recovery and won’t lead to much hiring. The unemployment rate, now at 9.5 percent, could even rise by the end of the year.

    “Could rise”? Yeah, no kidding. Meanwhile, how is the administration reacting? By sending Joe Bite-Me out to plug the “green jobs” they’re creating;

    Speaking in Washington, Biden said the United States is now on-track to achieve four major innovation breakthroughs thanks to last year’s nearly 800 billion U.S. dollar stimulus — modernizing transportation, including advanced vehicle technology and high-speed rail; jumpstarting the renewable energy sector through wind and solar energy; investing in medical research; and investment in broadband and the Smart Grid.

    “Our investments in innovation are creating jobs, creating new industries, making existing industries more competitive,” he said.

    “And, in the process, they’re driving down costs for new technologies that are badly needed, and helping our nation reassert our place as the world’s center for inventors and entrepreneurs.”

    Of course, there’s no evidence of this – there’s not even anything to replace existing fuel sources, but that doesn’t influence the crap flowing from Biden. No one has ever held him accountable for anything he says, so why start now?

    They’ve even got Time Magazine to chime in and make shit up;

    Politically, it’s awkward to argue that things would have been even worse without the stimulus, even though that’s what most nonpartisan economists believe. But the battle over the Recovery Act’s short-term rescue has obscured its more enduring mission: a long-term push to change the country. It was about jobs, sure, but also about fighting oil addiction and global warming, transforming health care and education, and building a competitive 21st century economy.

    Yeah, well all of that is an admirable goal, but lets put America back to work first and then we can eat all of the sky pie we want. If the Democrats want to fix the economy today, they’d have a press conference this morning with Reid, Pelosi and Obama joining hands and announcing that they’ll extend the Bush tax cuts for ten more years and lifting the drilling ban in the Alaska National Wildlife Reserve.

    Hey, I can dream, can’t I?

  • Must be a Full Moon

    There’s just so much bullshit going on today, can you guys let me write a single post about everything? Thanks.

    First off, it’s TSO who is getting married, not me. Blackfive wrote some wedding advice to TSO yesterday and everyone has been congratulating me. And frankly, I’m insulted. Not only am I better looking, you can find pictures of me on the internet in a reasonably sober state and without a glass of Guinness in my paw. And I was married 33 years ago – where were all of your well wishes, then? Dicks.

    Leading the discussions on the blogs this morning is Ken Mehlman, former Bush campaign manager and RNC chairman. he’s suddenly come out and announced he’s gay. SFW? I’m always being preached to that gays are just like me, except for the whole flamboyant thing – and putting stuff in other people’s stuff. So what’s the big damn deal about Mehlman? Does it prove something? Does it mean something? Only to real homophobes, I suppose – homophobes who get their jollies “outing” Republicans. Dicks.

    And this guy who slit a cab driver’s throat in NYC yesterday.. Did you read about this? That pony-tailed fuck on a formerly conservative website blamed the Right, Pam Geller and Glen Beck until it was discovered that he was a film maker/student for some Left Wing media company. Dick.

    Alan Simpson, who sits on the President’s deficit commission called Social Security “a cow with 310 million tits” in a private email and now the entire left is calling for his resignation. Well, it’s not really about the statement – it never is – it’s because Simpson advocates spending cuts instead of tax hikes and he’s winning the argument among the commissioners. So Bernie Sanders and Paul Krugman along with a chorus of others think he should resign. Dicks.

    The Washington Post writes today that “Glenn Beck rally will be a measure of the tea party’s strength“. Yeah, we’ll just ignore that tea party rally in Washington on September 12th last year – that doesn’t count as a measure. We’ll try one that hasn’t happened yet. Dicks.

    The EPA wants to ban lead ammunition. That won’t price ammo out of the reach of the average hunter, will it? Just because it almost destroyed water fowl hunting doesn’t mean it’ll harm other hunting. Right? Dicks.

    That firebombing at Democrat Representative Russ Carnahan’s office last week which was blamed on the tea party crowd? Guess who has been arrested in connection to it; a disgruntled Carnahan emplyee/Talking Point Memo blogger. Dick.

    That’s enough dicks for one morning, isn’t it? Dick.
