  • Charlie Rangel’s poverty draft

    Flagwaver sends us a link to the link to Charlie Rangel’s latest attempt to restore the draft called the “Universal National Service Act“. Basically, it calls for a military draft supplemented by a draft into “civilian service in a Federal, State, or local government program or with a community-based agency or community-based entity”. If I read the thing correctly, there are no exemptions, except attending high school, attending college and a hardship/disability. By the way, the President gets to decide whether you’re drafted into the military or the civilian program, if you don’t make a choice before you’re drafted.

    The period of service is for two years, and there’s no conscientious objector exemption, for those of you so inclined. But Rangel explains the purpose of his bill;

    It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 25 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this title unless exempted under the provisions of this title.

    Seriously? Is that in the Constitution? Since when are we subordinate to the government who now levies arbitrary obligations on us…us, you know the People who formed the more perfect union, established justice, etc….

    Funny how it’s the democrats who have trying to subordinate the population to the threat of a draft since Richard Nixon rendered it asunder. It was Jimmy Carter, who raped the military of training, pay and equipment, who restored draft registration when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and he suddenly realized that no one wanted to join the military. Most young people don’t register for the draft these days anyway, even with no threat of a draft, so how is Rangel going to round up the folks to register?

    And why legislate for a draft now, unless they plan on making military service Jimmy Carter-painful again. Yeah, you folks who weathered the Clinton years have no idea how bad it can get.

    All they’re going to get in the first few rounds are the derelicts who didn’t finish high school, and the poor and uneducated who can’t get into college for whatever reason. So, yeah, this is a really great idea whose time has come. Or. Not.

  • Rolling Stone: The Gun Industry’s Deadly Addiction

    Rolling Stone, the journal of popular culture prints an article today entitled; The Gun Industry’s Deadly Addiction which blames the gun industry and racism for the surge in gun sales over the last few years. Their myopic reportage, of course, doesn’t look at the Left’s part in the record-breaking gun sales. instead they focus on ridiculous bullshit;

    Much of the industry’s recent success is linked to politics – in particular, to the gun-buying public’s anxiety about the first black man in the White House.

    Seriously, that line isn’t played out yet? I’d have guessed that we got over the whole race thing after the first term. The president denigrated us gun owners during the first campaign and we all knew it was only a matter of time before he came for our guns once he didn’t need our votes any more.

    Perversely, the Newtown massacre has only added to the wave of panic buying – as consumers stockpile weapons that could be outlawed.

    Perversely? Really? Gun owners knew that the media sensation would drive the emotional Leftists to demand that something, anything be done. So we bought up the things that would be banned as a result. It wasn’t the Newtown shootings that caused the buying, it was the Left’s emotional reaction to it that drove us the stores.

    Of course, Rolling Stone says that it’s gun companies who driving this frenzy. Encouraging us to get our kids interested in the sport, but, again, it’s a skill that we think our kids are going to need, because of the emotional Left which demonizes everything that we believe to be true.

    And, oh, yeah, Rolling Stone, in their usual patronizing manner, tells the ladies that they’re being seduced into buying guns by the gun companies…not because they’re in real danger because our culture is cracking up.

    Firing ranges now offer zombie-themed hunts. “Shooters must battle their way through a Zombie Assault Course to save us all from these undead people eaters,” advertises one Florida range. The industry itself is also cashing in on the craze, selling zombie-branded accessories, including sights that use a biohazard hologram instead of cross hairs for aim. Ammunitions giant Hornady has even rebranded its Critical Defense line of bullets as Zombie Max. “This is an incredible marketing strategy,” one dealer told Shooting Industry. “If you set Hornady Critical Defense next to Zombie Max ammunition, a young customer is going to grab the Zombie ammo. The old-timers don’t care much for it, but the younger shooters love it.”

    But there’s no mention of Rolling Stones’ fawning reviews of popular culture zombie movies that fuel the craze. The “old timers” don’t read Rolling Stone (except those balding hippies who tie those few strands of hair they have left on the sides of their heads in a scroungy, skimpy pony tail) or go to Zombie movies – that’s popular culture.

    The gun industry’s dirtiest – and most open – secret is that it is profiting from the sale of guns that are illegally trafficked into Mexico to arm the drug cartels responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians. “Nobody has a clue how big that market is,” says Diaz. “It’s like drugs in reverse.”

    Can you imagine writing that paragraph without mentioning the “Fast & Furious” operation during which the US Federal government, the Obama Administration, let thousands of guns “walk” to Mexico in spite of the gun industry’s pleas to halt the practice. Those guns that irresponsibly ended up in the hands of criminals have turned up in crime scenes across Mexico – but, no not a mention of “Fast and Furious”, instead Rolling Stone quotes Dianne Feinstein’s claims;

    “Military-style weapons are arming Mexico’s brutal drug trafficking organizations at an alarming rate,” Dianne Feinstein wrote in a 2011 letter to her Senate colleagues. Nearly 90 percent of weapons seized in Mexico are trafficked from the U.S. “Many of these firearms came from gun shops and gun shows in Southwest border states,” the GAO reported, decrying the “increasingly lethal weapons,” specifically “high-caliber and high-powered” guns such as “AR-15-type semiautomatic rifles, which fire ammunition that can pierce armor often used by Mexican police.”

    Yup, be careful not to mention that the Obama Administration was sending those guns to Mexico, it may screw up any point you might have had.

    For the industry itself, the violent deaths of tens of thousands of Mexicans are of no greater concern than the mock executions of zombie dummies.

    How much do those deaths count for the Obama Administration?

    Divestment from the gun industry is gaining momentum:

    Well, that’s brilliant investment strategy, isn’t it? Don’t invest in an industry that’s making money hand over fist. F’n dumbass hippies.

  • This Time it’s Clearly One of Theirs

    A rogue cop in California has gone on a killing streak, publishing a manifesto declaring himself a supporter of virtually everything liberal in America but outside the law. This renegade officer used a firearm to kill two innocent humans because of their collateral relationship to his own career failures. These were killings of retribution to get back at the parent of one of the victims who apparently had insufficiently represented the killer in a police competency hearing. The killer subsequently killed a cop who was pursuing him.

    So will we hear cries from the left to disarm the potential perpetrators of such mindless mayhem? Will we hear op-ed pieces as to why all these cops are allowed to go armed amongst a helpless civilian population? Two things come to mind with the first being that the perp has published his manifesto in which he condemns every aspect of conservatism while effusively praising virtually everything liberal including the networks who should, if they were honest, be disclosing all this, but in reality won’t because this time, it’s undeniably a perp of the left doing the killing.

    The left won’t use these particular killings to further their gun control campaign because it would belie their conventional wisdom that all such madmen are conservatives. Even they know in their heart of hearts that it makes no sense to disarm American citizens who increasingly are faced with the prospect of physically defending themselves against violence because the cops simply can’t get there in time. It is a reality that a liberal, generally coastal and urban minority in this country, will continue to deny for no other reason than that it makes them somehow feel morally superior to those of us with the common sense, presence of mind to keep a loaded handgun ready on the bed side stand. And fools that they are, they are the ones who fall victims to violence far more frequently than we who are armed.

    And so, we will hear no strident reactions in the mainstream media because this time there is no denying this killer is one of theirs, a liberal rogue cop who advocates gun control while praising the president who seeks to disarm the American people. That this killer is black further lends to the muted response of the major networks for that is an inconvenient truth: a black man who, according to his own writings, is a huge supporter of everything liberal in this country, including the mainstream news outlets that should be reporting the truth of his mindless rampage.

    It will never happen…

  • Why we can’t have nice things

    ROS sends us this from Facebook. It kind of illustrates why we can’t have rational discussions with Democrats. They don’t even understand basic issues, so how can we have a discussion;

    FB idiocy

    I tried to count everything that was wrong in those paragraphs and, even with my extra thumbs, I ran out of fingers.

  • Women will pay for political maneuvering

    Veterans and enlisted soldiers aren’t staying quiet about how women in combat roles will affect the guys already in those jobs, but how will this change affect the females?

    In spite of the fact that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Martin Dempsey is already looking for a way to lower the physical standards for men and women in the military so that it’s “fair”  it is important to consider the ramifications for women trying to enlist, or already serving, if the standards are equalized by RAISING the standards for women, which must be done if we are to remain a viable fighting force in the world.

    But, doing so will significantly reduce retention and eliminate the military as an option for all but the most hardened teen aged girls.
    We all know a handful of women who can do everything a man can do (and better) but can that be said of all of the women who currently make up 14 percent of the Army? Add to that many young females have no idea what they are physically capable of and the initial physical requirements already seem daunting- will they even try if the bar is raised more? Like men, they get into training and are stunned by what they are able to do and many continue to push themselves physically to become their personal best. But if they have to perform the same as a man on their ISTs, will there be ANY females left in the Marine Corps? I have to assume it takes a little more work to transform a pretty blonde 17 year old in a PINK hoodie into a Marine.

    Will women make the weight standards? Many tall, strong, athletic young female would not make weight standards geared toward gangly 18 year old boys. Men are at their thinnest, most compact at that time, built nothing like a young woman. Perhaps women with breasts would be ineligible. Hmmm. “Sorry, CPL Smith, looks like you’ve, um, developed since your last weigh in.”

    Additionally, are women in combat specialties-trained to fight and nothing else- willing to face an admin discharge, possibly Other Than Honorable, if they make themselves useless by pregnancy? They can’t work though the pregnancy, and it is a choice. Fair or not- sex makes women pregnant, not men. A female mechanic can work, if not PT, through her pregnancy. Not so a combat Marine.

    What about the Navy? I don’t even know. Where do they fit into all of this? How will the American people react when the numbers of female dead and captured skyrockets? Will combat moms be at risk of losing their kids because of PTSD? Will there be backlash when offended populace wakes up to this nonsense?

    One thing is for sure, women are going to pay for this folly.

  • Joe Morrissey; Get your booger hook off of the bang switch

    Booger hook on the bang switch

    Another fine example of the people who want to limit our choice of what we spend our money on. In the Virginia House of Delegates, Joe Morrissey held up an AK-47-style weapon and explained why he thought we weren’t responsible enough to own that type of weapon…his finger clearly on the trigger.

    When his fellow delegates and the media criticized him for his irresponsible behavior, he assured everyone that the weapon wasn’t loaded. But responsible gun owners, not Morrissey, know that all guns are always loaded, or at least that’s how we treat the weapons. From local news;

    “Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution did it say that someone can carry an AK-47 and walk down the middle of the street with it,” Morrissey said.

    The delegate is introducing legislation that would ban the sale, transfer, import or barter of assault rifles and magazines holding 20 or more rounds. Morrissey says his proposal would prohibit gun enthusiasts from buying or selling assault weapons at Gun Shows like one at the Show Place.

    I wonder if his proposal would bar him from owning any weapon, because clearly he doesn’t know what he’s doing. By the way, his bill that would have prohibited drivers from smoking in their car failed yesterday.

    Thanks to ROS for the picture.

  • “Do SOMETHING”, NY!!!

    Well, Andrew Cuomo and his legislature in New York will be the first to DO SOMETHING! on gun control after the Sandy hook shooting. When I say “do something” I mean “do something stupid and useless”. A link to NBC sent to us by Old Trooper explains just how eager Liberals are to do anything to appear to voters as if they have good intentions;

    The tentative agreement would further restrict New York’s ban on assault weapons and limit the size of magazines to seven bullets, rather than the current 10. Other elements, pushed by Republicans, would refine a mental health law to make it easier to confine people determined to be a threat to themselves or others.

    Senate Republicans also have included a further crackdown on illegal gun trafficking into New York, the people said. Most New York City gun crimes involve weapons illegally brought into the state, state and city officials say.

    The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the proposal had not been discussed among rank and file legislators. They say the tentative deal was struck over the weekend and will be debated behind closed doors Monday in the Senate and Assembly.

    Yup, three rounds will make a huge difference – it wouldn’t have stopped William Spengler, the Webster, NY shooter who shot four firefighters, killing two. Four is less than seven. The only people who will benefit are the magazine manufacturers who will have to pound out new magazines for the folks who bought their guns when the limit was 10. And the funny part is that this is the best that gun grabbers could get. And they worked it out over a weekend. A whole weekend!

    How do you “further restrict” a ban? Albany’s proctologists must be working overtime helping the legislators who spent all weekend pulling things out of their ass.

  • Paul Eaton on crack

    Kerry Hagel

    Chief Tango sent us a link to this article. Yeah, retired General Paul Eaton wrote that. Eaton has also appeared in VoteVets campaign ads, he’s a frequent guest on Bill Maher’s show, wherever that plays these days, he was an adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, then he campaigned for Barack Obama, and now, SURPRISE!, he thinks that Kerry and Hagel are a fricken Dream Team.

    Kerry and Hagel share qualities and experiences sure to resonate with those who execute U.S. national security and foreign policy – on the battlefield and in the increasingly dangerous world of diplomacy.

    Both men demonstrated great bravery in war and moral courage throughout their lives. Hagel, as an infantry sergeant and squad leader in Vietnam, was twice wounded, saved by his squad mate brother and then returned the favor. Kerry, not far away, operated riverine craft in an equally dangerous environment and sustained several wounds.

    After such experiences, they understand the implications of deciding to use military force like few others in our civilian leadership. They know at a gut level that the decision to put our soldiers in harm’s way can traumatize those who have answered the call of duty, and affect their families, like few of life’s endeavors.

    I guess, he wants to forget that Hagel called the surge in Iraq the “most dangerous blunder since Vietnam”. Who can forget how Kerry supports the troops by testifying in front of a Senate Committee in 1971 (while Eaton’s father was MIA in Vietnam and Eaton, himself, was at West Point, by the way) that they were war criminals and don’t forget Kerry’s “botched joke”; “You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.

    Yeah, the troops were real appreciative of that joke;

    Halp us Jon Cary

    Eaton continues;

    Kerry, having voted to approve the use of force in Iraq with, among others, Senator Hillary Clinton, declared his intent to ensure all foreign policy tools remained on the table.

    Both men later voted against the surge in Iraq in the face of substantial push-back from their colleagues.

    So they waffle and bend with the political winds. That’s what the troops really appreciate, someone who will send them to war and then go wobbly when the political heat is turned up. Remember that Kerry as a citizen tried to undermine the war effort in Vietnam and peace negotiations by traveling to Paris and made offers to the North Vietnamese delegation that he couldn’t deliver on.

    So yeah, that’s a real dream team you have there, General. Maybe he thinks getting Kim Il-sung for Energy Secretary would be a real coup for us. Or Joe Biden would make a good Education Secretary.
