  • Thoughts on “Pro-War” Lone Survivor

    Marcus Luttrell is appearing on Fox & Friends this morning to discuss the backlash from Leftists who are calling the movie “Lone Survivor” a pro-war film that glorifies the roles of soldiers in combat. I haven’t seen the movie, I’m waiting until I can watch it at home – I learned my lesson from seeing “Saving Private Ryan” in public. But I’ve seen enough trailers and clips emailed to us by the production crew of the movie to get a feel for the film. “Lone Survivor” is no more pro-war than “Backdraft” was a pro-fire movie.

    War and fire are things that happen to Americans, and those movies are about the people who fight the threat those things present to the public safety. The unprecedented popularity of the movie this past weekend demonstrates that Americans want to understand the folks who went to Afghanistan to fight our battles for us. If these Leftists think that we consider it glorious to die in battle, that’s only because they’ve never seen how inglorious it is to actually witness the deaths of friends and mates in combat. And, they’ve never experienced real training which stresses that we survive contact with the enemy.

    I’m beginning to think that this has become a moment for Leftists to examine their own appendages and they’re coming up short in that examination. So, their only public reaction could be to run down the movie in hopes that no one will notice that they’re a bunch of pussies and hand-wringers. That happens every time Americans come to appreciate the heroes who unquestioningly serve their nation when the nation calls, because the troops serve a thing greater than themselves and the mealy-mouthed Leftist bloggers think that nothing is greater than themselves.

    Dakota Meyers discusses the subject with Megan Kelly yesterday;

  • Scary black guns for Boston PD? No, says Mayor.

    I’m conflicted over this story sent to us by Jerry920 from Fox News in which the Boston Mayor-elect Martin Walsh, opposes arming some local police with AR-type rifles. While I’m concerned that police are beginning to look more and more like an occupying force, what with their black, military style clothes and military-style weapons, I don’t think that politicians are the people who should make the decision how they should be armed;

    The Boston Police Department had been pushing for a limited number of officers to carry the high-powered rifles, in light of recent mass shootings as well as the Boston Marathon bombing earlier this year.

    But after the incoming mayor initially stayed mum on the idea, a spokeswoman for Walsh told the Boston Herald he’s not on board — not yet, anyway.

    “Mayor-elect Walsh is opposed to the AR-15 rifles,” she was quoted as saying. “Unless otherwise convinced by the Boston Police Department, he does not think they are necessary.”

    The plan is to arm 22 officers on the Boston PD force with AR-15 style weapons (the scariest looking weapons). Now if they had planned to arm every single patrol officer with an M4 slung across his chest, I might have a bigger problem with it, but it’s to arm a very small percentage of officers, who one day might need the large ammunition capacity weapons. And if having those officers available as one tool in their box to fight crime on one occasion in the coming years saves a life or two, I think it’s probably worth it.

    But for a politician to arbitrarily make the statement “I don’t believe arming them with assault weapons is going to make them any safer,” like City Councilor Charles Yancey said, is just myopic. Of course, all of those police organizations who lined up behind the “assault weapon ban” brought all of this irrational fear of the guns in the first place and they’re partly at fault.

  • Bleeding Hearts . . . and Bloody Hands

    Today is the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings.  We’ll doubtless hear great hue and cry from our liberal “brethren” about that, and about how “evil guns” killed innocents.

    Yeah, they’re lying – and they know it.  But that won’t stop many clueless schmucks from lapping it up.  And the media will be there to broadcast the false outrage and tears.

    They’re using innocents murdered by a lunatic as political props. I wish I could say that shocks me. But coming from the “Progressive” side, it doesn’t.  They do crap like that all the time.

    The hypocrisy, though, disgusts me. Because if anyone besides the shooter, Adam Lanza, is to blame for Sandy Hook – it’s our Bleeding-Heart Liberal “Brethren”.

  • Dems; “We can have it all”

    The Washington Times reports that the Democrat Party is salivating that they can finally “have it all” in the current political climate in regards to entitlements. They’re eating their own when not everyone in their party agrees with them;

    Christy Setzer, a Democratic consultant, said that “the safety net’s making a comeback.”

    “Polls show that not only do Americans want to preserve Social Security, they want to see it expanded — not just in NYC, but in Colorado,” Ms. Setzer said. “That means that moving to the left is a viable position for Democrats in blue and red states alike.”

    The internal bickering is similar to the squabbles that have played out on the Republican side of the aisle, where some of the darlings of the tea party and conservative movement have accused GOP leaders of habitually selling out basic conservative principles.

    Mrs. Warren and Mr. de Blasio have energized the liberal base of the Democratic ranks, which has accused the Obama administration of not fighting hard enough for the issues that they care about most.

    Mr. de Blasio won the New York mayoral race Nov. 5 with more than 73 percent of the vote after vowing to raise taxes on the city’s wealthier residents to cover the cost of expanded government programs — including universal pre-kindergarten — and to reduce inequality.

    Speaking on the floor of the Senate two weeks later, Mrs. Warren said that if the nation wants a real middle class then Congress must get serious about the nation’s retirement system because more people than ever are on the edge of financial disaster once they retire.

    “That is why we should be talking about expanding Social Security benefits, not cutting them,” she said.

    It’s really too bad that they’re not this rabid over helping veterans just keep the benefits that they’ve earned. Healthcare costs are rising on retirees, they’re losing some of their benefits, Congress is perfectly happy to cut their pay, the Department of Defense raids our $770 million Tricare surplus and then doesn’t bat an eye when they push us off of Tricare Prime and raise our premiums and co-pays.

    And here are the Democrats expanding their social programs. Before you think I’m talking about retirees on Social Security, I’m not. I’m talking about the people on SSI because they can’t find a job because they were busted for smoking pot on their last job (yes, I know one). I’m talking about people who game the system – that’s who the Democrats want to “expand” the program to include.

    And then they tell us how the things we were promised are standing in the way of readiness.

    Someone whose name would surprise you, asked me today about issues that affect the military. This is issue number one. The Department of Defense and Congress won’t keep their promises to veterans, but they’ll make new promises to the professionally indigent.

  • Code Pink complains about their fellow travelers

    The Washington Times reports that Code Pink has a morale problem – and its the Democrats. Earlier today, we read about Senator Al Franken who said that there were no good options in Syria, so he’ll vote to send the military in harm’s way since that’s the most politically expedient answer and he has no skin in the game in the way of his blood being endangered. The other day, DC’s Democrat non-voting (thankfully) delegate to Congress, Eleanor Holmes Norton told the media that she’d vote for Obama’s plan out of loyalty to the party and Obama.

    In the Washington Times article, Medea Benjamin complains about her fair weather friends in the Democrat Party;

    A day earlier, Ms. Benjamin was arrested for protesting in the middle of the Senate’s hearing on Syria, yelling “We don’t want another war” as she was escorted out.

    She said she expected better of President Obama and that it “feels terrible” to have to protest against a member of the Democratic Party.

    “It feels surreal,” she said. “It seems like this country is so topsy-turvy when you have Code Pink and Rand Paul on the same side of foreign policy issues.”

    Another group member waiting for the hearing said the conflict goes beyond party lines and the Democrats are now “just as bad” as Republicans.

    “When I first moved to this country in 2008, I was very excited to see Barack Obama,” said Noor Mir, who is originally from Pakistan. “But it seems as though he is backed up by so many warmongers that he’s just become one of them.”

    Buzzfeed lists 14 Hollywood anti-war crackpots who they suspect have been kidnapped because they haven’t spoke out on the impending Syria military action.

    The Hollywood Reporter interviewed two stanch anti-war zealots in Hollywood, Ed Asner and Mike Farrel about the sad state of the anti-war people in Hollywood who were so eager to protest against war in the Middle East ten years ago, but are oddly silent now. The emphasis is mine.

    “It’s incredibly improper for the president to call for a strike. I have said it everywhere I can and I suspect a lot of others will do the same, but whether there will be an organized effort, I don’t know,” Farrell continued. “We’re talking about the difference between an invasion in Iraq and a limited action in response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria.”

    Asner said the lack of an organized effort against war in Syria is a matter of timing. Bush took months to make the case for war in Iraq, giving the antiwar left plenty of time to prepare a response.

    […]

    Another reason some Hollywood progressives have been reticent to speak out against war in Syria, according to Asner, is fear of being called racist.

    “A lot of people don’t want to feel anti-black by being opposed to Obama,” he said.

    So, basically, they called us racist for so long, they believe if they oppose Obama, people will think they’re racist, too. Of course, they are racist because they’re willing to let Syrians die in a US airstrike just so they don’t upset the racial applecart. But unfortunately, it doesn’t bother them on the same level when they mistreat Conservative blacks.

  • Stupid Left on Chris Lane murder

    Chris Lane was killed in Oklahoma this week by three youths, ostensibly because they were bored, according to one of the perpetrators. So while most Americans are wondering why this isn’t being made a national issue like the Trayvon Martin death, the left is scurrying to make it about their agenda instead. Alex Seitz-Wald at Salon, tries to tell us that the two deaths were different because the police didn’t arrest George Zimmerman immediately after Martin’s death. Well, they did bring him in for questioning immediately following the incident, but they obviously didn’t have a case – proven by the outcome of his trial – so why would they have arrested him just because public opinion had determined he was guilty?

    So, the other day, at the daily White House press conference, one of the reporters asked if there was a statement from the President regarding Chris Lane. The spokesdingus, Josh Earnest, said that he wasn’t familiar with the case. When made familiar with the case he said that the president didn’t want to get in the way of the legal process, you know like the president didn’t want to get in the way of the legal process against George Zimmerman.

    What prompted me to write this, was a few minutes of a discussion on Fox news this morning when some ditz blamed the Republican-led Congress for the Lane murder. She said that schools are cutting back their extra-curricular programs because of federal budget cuts and that’s why unsupervised youths are out thrill-killing foreign students. Yeah, I’m sure that’s it. It’s been only a few months since any cutbacks have happened, and I’m sure this problem with these kids started only recently. And, oh, by the way, school is out for the summer, so how could more school activities have prevented this senseless murder?

    Of course, the ditz also mentioned gun control, but it was already illegal for those three teens to own a gun and that didn’t seem to stop them. yeah, she wanted to ban all guns, and commandeer this issue as an excuse. Gun laws don’t work. Period.

    But, see the Left doesn’t want to admit that they’ve created the mess that inspired this particular murder. One of the perpetrators in the Lane murder has Tweeted that he has beaten 5 white people since Zimmerman was determined to be innocent by a jury. Because the jury didn’t reach the same conclusion as the animals who are prowling our streets in search of a thrill. If the Left actually admitted to what the problem is here, they’d have to admit that everything they’ve pushed in recent years in order to remain relevant has led to this murder.

  • Marty O’Malley, eyes presidential bid

    Buzzfeed reports that jerkweed liberal POS Martin O’Malley, the Maryland Governor, is assembling a “framework” for a run at the 2016 presidential race.

    O’Malley last spoke at length about his presidential ambitions in April, when he told The Baltimore Sun he would give “serious consideration” to a White House race as he rounds out what will be his second and last term as governor of Maryland.

    Asked how that process has been going so far, O’Malley said, “It’s going well.”

    He described a handful of recent speeches as the conduit through which he has been able to present his national policy beliefs to a wider audience. “[I’ve] given a number of talks: the commencement at St. Mary’s College, the climate change talk, the Center for American Progress,” he said.

    “So by the end of this year, I think we’re on course to have a body of work that lays the framework of a candidacy for 2016,” said O’Malley, who is here in Wisconsin this weekend for the National Governors Association summer meeting.

    The only thing that O’Malley has accomplished as governor of Maryland is raise taxes on working Marylanders (spending the surplus he inherited in less than three months after his inauguration), passed anti-gun legislation that will do absolutely nothing for safety except limit the choices of law-abiding Marylanders, and pay off his political cronies by creating six-figure jobs for them in his administration.

    Among his more ridiculous tax hike schemes is when he introduced a tax on homeowners based on how much rain falls on their property. He calls illegal immigrants “new Americans”, he says that paying taxes without questioning them is “patriotic”. Yeah, the Democrats really need to get O’Malley to run for President, on his record as governor.

  • Veterans sue New Rochelle City Council

    Gadsden_flag.svg

    The ignorant liberals on the city council of New Rochelle, NY forbade local veterans groups from flying the “Gadsden Flag” at the local armory, which is owned by the city, because they claim that the flag is “too political”, referring to the current usage by the various “Tea Party” groups. Of course, this is because the city council is not familiar, nor are they interested in learning the flag’s actual history. It has been used by the US Marine Corps for centuries since the first Marines enlisted under the flag in Philadelphia in 1775.

    The flag flew over the first US Naval commander-in-chief, Commodore Esek Hopkins, on the mainsail of his flagship that same year.

    If “too political” is a reason to ban things, New Rochell should ban the city council.

    According to the Washington Times, veterans groups in New Rochelle, are taking the city to court;

    City officials contacted on Friday did not immediately comment about the suit, or the case, AP reported.

    The lawsuit targets the mayor, the city manager and four council members, and seeks an injunction as well as unspecified damages.
