  • Peace Grannies circling for grim milestone

    vulturespa_468x447

    Some posts just write themselves;

    On Saturday, Feb. 20, U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan reached a total of 999. With the likelihood of the toll reaching 1,000 in the next day or two, peace grannies in New York City have planned a special commemorative vigil to be held the day AFTER the dreaded number has been announced.

    It is requested that people be on the alert for a probable event on either Monday or Tuesday, Feb. 22 and 23. The day after the announcement, all New York City peace groups will meet at 5:30 p.m.

  • Behind Taliban Lines?

    I thought the video where Al Jareea was showing the insurgents arresting people who voted in the Afghanistan election to a quite possibly a painful death was bad enough. One guy wanted to take it further.

    Late last summer, while reporting a story for FRONTLINE, veteran Afghan journalist Najibullah Quraishi through channels put out word that he would like to interview one of the new Taliban commanders leading a growing insurgency in the country’s northern provinces.

    Yep for those who where in Afghanistan out on patrols this guy was chatting it up with those that wanted to kill you.

    In this excerpt from Behind Taliban Lines, the militants — members of an extremist group called Hezb-i-Islami, which fights alongside the Taliban throughout the country — have holed up in a safe-house near their target and are beginning to build the bombs that they hope will stop an American supply truck and a jeep filled with Afghan police, both of which they plan to subsequently attack with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

    The excuse that the writer gives is that he is helping the West better understand these groups. In his own words:

    At the time he filmed this scene, Quraishi did not know the target of the attack, but it was clear to him — as it was throughout his time with the militants — that it was critical for a Western audience to see for themselves what was taking place here, deepening our understanding of the tactics, training, and mind-set of the insurgents who control vast regions of the country beyond the reach of the central government.

    There are so many lines in this story to quote it was hard not to just post the entire story but one thing that should be noted is that even with the obvious free publicity and propaganda, they had no issues about having though of beheading him.

    “Mirwais took my hand; he took me aside,” Quraishi says. “He said: ‘Brother, I invited you here as a guest. I know your plan is to be here for 14 days, but I’m really sorry.’” Two men had arrived from Pakistan—likely from Hezb-i-Islami and Al Qaeda—and they demanded to know why an outsider had been allowed in to film among the fighters. “‘They keep telling me that you are a spy and we have to behead you.’”

    But he found out that once again the overall truth with these groups.

    Indeed, as the men of Central Group proceed toward their target, Quraishi meets a young bomb maker from Uzbekistan who says he was trained by Al Qaeda.

    “America started this war in Afghanistan so that European countries like England and America would be safe,” he tells Quraishi. “But they should know that once the mujahideen conquer Afghanistan, … we’ll aim for the Middle East and Europe.”

    Their words now ours.

  • Teabagger the terrorist

    Of course you knew that sooner or later the left would start calling Joseph Stack, the lunatic who flew his plane into that building in Austin, a teabagger, despite evidence to the contrary. Well, for the daily Kos and Democratic Underground it came sooner than most expected. At DU, they predictably flew off the rails proving to each other that they could be more crazy than Stack;

    Teabaggers who agree with this fucker are terrorist. When they get all whipped up and shit I feel fucking Terror.

    There I said that shit.

    And Glenn Beck and Rush, and that crazy Michelle Bachman, that crazy munchkin bitch from SC Wolf…Grassley, Palin, all those fuckers need to be rounded the fuck up and sent to GITMO. There. I SAID THAT SHIT TOO. They caused those fuckers to get all whipped up and now they need to pay the goddamned price for that.

    I bet people in other countries are laughing their asses off @ us and that whole cry wolf thing will go into a-fucking-fect.

    They always say…homicidebombers and how could they do that shit well one of theif fuckers did that shit. Now they fucking know that maniacs talking bullshit 24/7 on Faux and Clear Channel can cause the same impact as a Mulah in Afghanistan. The fucking proof is in the pudding in Austin.

    Like that? Me, too – I feel much safer now that this stick-boy wants throw Americans in Guantanamo because they don’t like the IRS.

    I’ll admit that it was harder to find the same level of insanity at Kos, but not impossible;

    kos-teabagger-the-terrorist

    I guess that they’re fairly frustrated that the leftist lunatic who shot three of her colleagues turned out to be a Obamaniac, so they’re eager to tie this one to us. Unfortunately for them, his rantings don’t bear that out. He was against taxes, but he quotes Marx. Stack railed against corporations, but failed at his own businesses.

    In fact, I thought that if he was as good at being a software engineer as he seemed to be at picking his politics, it’s no wonder he failed at his business. His family and community are better off without him since he seemed like a big whiner.

    Don’t forget to read this at Ace of Spades by Dave in texas.

  • What was Lloyd Woodson planning?

    I don’t know.

    His Navy career was brief. He enlisted in 1988, went AWOL in 1989, turned himself in and was discharged in 1997. His estranged wife who had a restraining order against him said he never laid a hand on her. He had some semi-auto weapons that scared the Jersey media (like that’s hard). One weapon was called a “possible grenade launcher” – but judging by the media’s past performance, it could have been two waste bins taped together. He was wearing a bulletproof vest.

    Curious. But you can bet that somehow it’ll all blamed on that year in the Navy over twenty years ago.

  • ACLU files FOIA for Predator drone missions

    For some reason, the ACLU has decided that it’s their business to approve our tactics against terrorists and have insinuated themselves into our war policy by filing a Freedom of Information Act request in regards to our drone program;

    The ACLU believes that the use and proliferation of this tactic must be the subject of public scrutiny and debate. But the government has released essentially no information about the legal basis of and limits on the drone program, or its scope and consequences. The public has been kept in the dark and is therefore unable to assess the wisdom or legality of the strikes. Commentators on all sides agree that these are not questions that should be decided solely by technocrats behind closed doors.

    In order to fill this void, the ACLU is asking the government to release basic information about its use of drones to execute targeted killings. In particular, we are seeking information about the legal basis for the drone program, including who may be targeted and the geographical limits on where drone strikes may occur. We are also asking for information about the scope and consequences of drone strikes, including a breakdown of the number of people killed, including the civilian casualty toll and the number of people killed who were fighters of the Afghan Taliban, al Qaeda in Afghanistan, or who had some other affiliation or status.

    Yes, that’s what we need…the generals at ACLU dictating policy to the military. No, I don’t see anything wrong with first year law students pouring over our military operations applying their extensive knowledge of law to military policy.

  • Reason number 1472 why Hamas cannot be trusted.

    Well originally this story that came out that three Hamas members were killed in a missile strike while about to launch a rocker attack from Gaza. I pictured that they would be seen and heroic martyrs. Yet this story changes things.

    Hamas said overnight Monday that a Hamas militant was killed and three others injured in an explosion in a northern Gaza Strip bomb workshop, Army Radio reported.

    So I wonder what is the view on the afterlife reward if you take out your own guys and not one enemy?

    But don’t worry, they will always be heroes to these guys who will be making a graphic novels about the heroics and struggle of the Palestine people.

    This is not a story about recent events in Gaza, not the “Cast Lead” offensive which so shocked the world. No, it is a book about two mass killings of Palestinians, by the Israeli military in 1956 — so long ago they have been forgotten.

    Yes because how would they write about events like this.

    Also Sunday, four mortar shells were fired from the Gaza Strip, but all landed on the Palestinian side of the border.

  • It’s Saturday Night Links

    Just a few quick links since there is nothing too big for it’s own post. So lets begin;

    To start off, there has been a fourth Church that has been burned down Malaysia that is suspected of being linked to the law that allowed Christians to use Allah to refer to God.

    The violence comes as Muslims protest a recent court ruling that allowed a Catholic newspaper to use the word “Allah” for God. Muslims believe Allah, an Arabic word, should only be used by Muslims.

    Next is that the suicide bomber that killed at least 6 CIA personal set off his bomb before he was searched.

    Those at the scene on Dec. 30 had been trying to strike a balance between respect for their informant — best demonstrated, in the regional tradition, by direct personal contact — and caution, illustrated by the attentiveness of the security guards, according to CIA officials.

    Also in Dallas a guy eager to see his girlfriend caused the Airport to be shut down for seven hours when he wanted a hug before she left.

    “He just wanted to say goodbye to his girlfriend, I don’t think he realized what he [was] doing,” said another pal, Ning Huang, 33, who plays soccer with Jiang.

    Separately

    TSA guard Ruben Hernandez had temporarily left his post unguarded, highlighting porous security at the airport despite recent terror alerts.

    Lastly seems that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has publicly apologized for his comment back in 2008.

    “I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words,” Reid said in a statement. “I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans, for my improper comments.”

    We shall see what happens with that. Now if he would appoligize about his comment that the Iraq War was Lost. I know, not going to happen.

    To end it off I figured something funny. Remember when Cindy Sheehan made her “Under the Death Star” speech? Well seemed that this cartoon came out tow years before it and looked like it was made for it.

  • Eye for a Toenail?

    Lets see in the last day or so there has been three Churches burned down in Malaysia. The reasons for the attack you ask? For a law allowing Christians to use Allah as God.

    “Allah is only for us,” said a poster waved at one of at least two protests outside mosques in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, the Muslim holy day.

    “We will not allow the word Allah to be inscribed in your churches,” a speaker shouted over a loudspeaker at the Kampung Bahru mosque.

    Oh the Horror. I mean also seems that this view was the general one of the group.

    Leading Muslim scholars, activists and opposition politicians have supported the Christians’ right to call God Allah, and Friday’s protests were relatively small, with most of the congregation ignoring them.

    We read a lot about how other groups also do, but how often do you hear something like this happening?

    So overseas we have people burning down Churches over the use of the word Allah and back in the States sending a song on how the writer wants to kill you is freedom of speech?
