  • Oregon goes “there”

    In case some of you were worried that yesterday’s incident in Houston when a knife wielding student slashed several of his school mates is some sort of national trend of knife injuries, you might want to move to Oregon where this legislation has been introduced in the state Senate, Senate Bill 740;

    Requires criminal history record check for transfer of knife
    from knife dealer to purchaser.
    Prohibits transferring knife to disqualified purchaser.
    Punishes by maximum of one year’s imprisonment, $6,250 fine, or
    both.
    Prohibits transfer of knife in violation of criminal history record check requirement. Punishes by maximum of one year’s imprisonment, $6,250 fine, or both.
    Requires Department of State Police to maintain registry of all knives transferred in state. Directs department to establish rules implementing registration requirement.
    Applies to transfers of knives initiated on or after January 1, 2015.

    According to the text of the bill, the new law would apply to any knife with a blade over 3 inches sold by a knife dealer, whatever the Hell that is. Oh, wait;

    (c) ‘Knife dealer’ means a person engaged in the business of selling, leasing or otherwise transferring a knife, regardless of whether the person is a retail dealer, pawnbroker or other person;

    * * * * *

    (e) ‘Purchaser’ means a person who buys, leases or otherwise receives a knife from a knife dealer.

    So, I guess I won’t be leasing any of my knives from a knife dealer n Oregon anytime soon.

    I don’t know the status of this bill or how old it is or how long it’s been languishing in a pile of other stupid legislation. but at least you know that your calls to “Do Something!” has been heard. Thanks to Gary for the link.

    ADDED: The word is that, although it’s a real bill, it was done to make fun of gun grabbers, so…

  • Dorner reward unpaid

    This pisses me off to no end. It looks like the people and organizations who offered, combined, a million bucks for the “arrest and conviction” of cop killer Christopher Dorner in California, are backing out of the reward payout. And folks wonder why people mistrust government and why the police can’t get cooperation. From Fox News;

    Both [LAPD Chief Charlie] Beck and [ Los Angeles Mayor Antonio] Villaraigosa have said they’d like to see the reward paid out. LAPD spokesman Richard French told FoxNews.com that authorities from the relevant agencies will meet in the next two weeks to correlate their findings regarding the reward and determine who was ultimately responsible for Dorner’s capture.

    “It is a very unique situation because we have so many jurisdictions involved and so many people pledging rewards,” French told FoxNews.com.

    The city of Riverside, however, which saw one of its officers gunned down by Dorner, has announced its pledge of $100,000 is no longer on the table.

    I’m sure the reward isn’t what drove the folks who led police to Dorner, but they were Dorner’s hostages. The police were so uptight about Dorner that they shot up at least two vehicles occupied by completely innocent people. They were on the news every night begging for tips leading to Dorner. The reward was the headline. You’d think that these organizations would be grateful that Dorner is off the streets, if for no other reason because the cops aren’t on edge like they were that week. the community is safer because these folks came forward and gave the police the information they needed to settle the whole charlie foxtrot. That he wasn’t arrested and convicted is not the fault of the tipsters.

    Pay up, assholes.

  • Breaking Protocol. A Confession and Plea.

    Jonn let’s me post here, although I truly don’t quite know why? I am a piss-poor writer, and I generally choose subject matter that doesn’t quite fit.

    Here’s the thing… It is getting harder and harder to find “The Lighter Side” of the news these days. Our own government seems hell bent on turning our rights into crimes. The expletive phonies seem to multiply. And all I want is something worth smiling about.

    Here it is: Ponsdorf@gmail.com. I won’t post everything you might forward (assuming I can still post anything after this).

    Just make me smile, please.

  • Modern “Edukayshun”

    Saw a reference to this on Drudge.  Maybe it’s just me, but today’s scheduled activity seems oddly apropos for a place named Brown University.  Perhaps they should change their name to “Brown 25“.  (smile)   (WARNING:  links  may be considered in bad taste and are probably not safe for small children.)

    And before anyone asks:  yes, the first link seems to be legit and not satire.

    Oh well, at least they’re a private institution so they’re not wasting public funds.  Other than the tax breaks they get.  And the grants/loans/subsidies from various governments they and their students waste while promoting and attending stuff like this.

  • NY State Police in Herkimer

    KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

    I ripped this photo off from the US Infantry Face Book page. Judging from the patch on one of the officers’ shoulder, this is New York State police on duty in Herkimer, NY in the stand off with Kurt Meyers.

    I’m guessing that the one guy with the AR is going to discover that it’s hard to hit anything with his rifle what with the EOTech on backwards. Baldy should get his booger hook off of the bang switch. Only the midget is in real Hollywood uniform with the sunglasses and a wad of dip. Yeah, let’s give them some tanks and drones, too.

  • Did you have your bird and hot snow today?

    Claymore and MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) sent us this video which was reportedly made by the North Korean government but posted on a Chinese website. It highlights the fact that we have no more birds because we’ve eaten them all and we relish hot cups of snow and that our building materials (for our tent cities) come from North Korea;
    (more…)

  • But I’m Feeling MUCH Better now…

    Folks – if this is satire and I missed it PLEASE don’t hold my ignorance against TAH. I didn’t make the effort to verify the validity because it simply seems valid. If it ain’t real it DOES at least rise to the level of what Might Be given the current state of affairs, AND you just might be be as querulous as I.
    DOJ Looking to Saudi Arabia for Counter-Terrorism Measures: Too Many Americans are Violent

    This comes from Mohammad Alshoaiby writing for the Saudi Gazette on the occasion of a Holder visit in Riyadh. In normal times, I wouldn’t give a thought to it, but we’re talking about Eric Holder, so the “Saudi Munasaha (Counseling)” is likely of great interest to our current government. Far too many of America’s “young people” are violent and so Saudi Arabia, the country that has chosen to switch from beheadings to firing squads because they have a shortage of swordsmen, can teach us how to un-indoctrinate our youth…or maybe this is about TeaParty terrorists.

    Even paranoids have enemies.

    ETA: US shows interest in Saudi counter-terrorism program

    It IS true!

  • A HumpDay Detour Into Bizzarro World

    This can be a sort of  “feel good” story depending how one sees the world.

    Caveat: I dunno if this linked site is satire or not? I opted against delving too deeply there because either way I had the feeling it would cause my blood pressure to spike.

    School Offers Counseling for Students Troubled by Pastry-Gun Incident

    The elementary school that was the scene of Josh’s brutally harmless rampage sent students home Friday with a letter describing the incident as if it had actually been serious:

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

    I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred this morning in one of our classrooms and encourage you to discuss this matter with your child in a manner you deem most appropriate.

    During breakfast this morning, one of our students used food to make inappropriate gestures that disrupted the class. While no physical threats were made and no one [was] harmed, the student had to be removed from the classroom.

    * * *

    As you are aware, the … Code of Student Conduct and appropriate consequences related to violations of the code are clearly spelled out in the Student Handbook, which was sent home during the first week of school and can be found on our website, www.aacps.org….

    If your children express that they are troubled by today’s incident, please talk with them and help them share their feelings. Our school counselor is available to meet with any students who have the need to do so next week. In general, please remind them of the importance of making good choices.

    Pretty sure that if your children are “troubled” by another kid biting a pastry into something that looks sort of like a gun and waving said pastry around, you have already failed as a parent.

    I keep thinking about “Animal House” and the food fight scene. Simulated explosives  – OH THE HORROR!
