  • Glen Gieschen; convicted for plot against Veterans’ Affairs

    Our buddy, Aunty Brat sends us an article from Canada about Glen Gieschen, a Canadian veteran, who was sentenced for his plot against their Veterans’ Affairs Department.

    Police recovered firearms, body armour, possible bomb-making materials, schematics of a downtown Calgary skyscraper and a plan to attack the seventh-floor federal offices during Gieschen’s arrest in January 2014. Court had been told that Gieschen had a beef with the military over coverage for multiple sclerosis he believed was caused by a flu shot he received while in the military.

    He was arrested after his wife called police because she was concerned that he might be suicidal. He was taken to hospital for treatment under the Mental Health Act.

    So he was sentenced to four years in prison with 18 months “time served”.

  • Psychologist: Routh faked schizophrenia

    Psychologist: Routh faked schizophrenia

    Reuters reports that psychologist Randall Price testified for the prosecution that Eddie Routh, the fellow shot Chad Littlefield and Chris Kyle, had been faking his mental disorder, despite the testimony of the forensic psychiatrist the day before that Routh couldn’t have faked his mental state;

    The Dallas Morning News quoted Price as saying: “He (Routh) did know what he was doing was wrong, and he did it anyway.” Routh has been faking schizophrenia and knew what he did was wrong.

    Price testified Routh does not meet the state’s legal definition of insanity but has a paranoid personality disorder made worse by his heavy drug use, the reports said.

    Well, yeah, he stole a truck, the reason for the murder. From the Daily Mail, the testimony of Routh’s sister;

    He walked into [his sister and brother-in-law’s] home and told them he had killed two men.

    ‘He said he took their souls before they could take his,’ Mr Blevins said. ‘I asked him what he meant by that, and he said they were out to get him.’

    At first, Mrs Blevins said she did not believe him, but when she asked him where he had got the truck – and asked if he had traded his VW bug for it – he said he had traded it ‘for a soul’.

    Last year, Fox News reported that a few months before the murder, Routh had been hospitalized when he threw a tantrum and threatened to kill himself and the whole family.

    The Washington Post reported earlier this month that Routh had been in and out of the hospital twice in the five months before the murder. From his father;

    “He was talking just as calm as you and me talking now but he was gone, in his eyes he was gone. I had a .357 pistol and I pulled it away from him three times. He kept going for it and saying he would hurt himself,” the father said. “The third time, I emptied all the bullets and threw them in the lake.”

    I wonder how much of this they had told Chris Kyle before he took Routh to the gun range.

  • Joe Teti – problem soldier?

    Joe Teti – problem soldier?

    Joe teti

    Joe Teti, if you don’t know, is the primary entertainer on Discovery Channel’s “Dual Survival”. We were the first to talk about Joe Teti’s records, which was only natural following the dismissal of his predecessor, David Canterbury. I guess the release of his records started a firestorm of discussion about his qualifications to be an entertainer on a TV show, for some reason. Anyway, he filed a lawsuit against everyone who he thinks slandered him and ruined his career in the entertainment industry. Those people have struck back, according to the Army Times;

    “I believe Joe is a sociopath [who] could be dangerous to those he believes have injured him,” writes Sgt. 1st Class Daniel McClain, Teti’s former team sergeant, in a letter to the Special Forces Association that is part of a formal response in an ongoing lawsuit.

    “I knew he would always be a problem,” writes Teti’s former executive officer, Lt. Col. William Sharp, in another letter, part of the SFA’s 50-page rebuttal to the lawsuit filed by Teti late last year.

    Sharp, now with U.S. Special Operations Command, writes that he was preparing paperwork to bar Teti from reenlisting, revoke his security clearance and strip him of his Special Forces tab, before Teti left the unit on his own.

    “Teti is far below Special Forces standards, he is an embarrassment to Special Forces and Special Operations,” writes Sharp, listing a litany of allegations.

    The article continues that Teti was a thief, a liar and a coward according to testimony coming from members of the Special Forces Association in the defense of their organization. They also report that the judge in the case has removed Teti’s right to own firearms and mandated that he only be allowed to communicate with other people in the case through his lawyer.

    Of course, none of this much of a surprise for those of us who had to deal with him. He never made physical threats to us, but he dragged the lawyers out in the first hour after I clicked “Publish” on the post about him, you know, after I spent hours on the phone with him getting the story right. The guy doesn’t take criticism well. It’s been my experience that people like that don’t stand up well to scrutiny.

  • Coast Guard NCO fakes his suicide, indicted

    West Virginia Metro News tells the story of 33-year-old Larry Shelby who was indicted, along with his wife and a friend, for a hoax and fraud. Apparently, the Coast Guardsman thought he had released some sort of information and the Coast Guard was investigating the incident, so he did what the rest of us would do, if we were completely stupid – he faked his own suicide. His wife joined him in the fraud and hid him in his basement.

    The U.S. Coast Guard spent more than $100,000 looking for him. In addition to the U.S. Coast Guard, Maryland state police, the National Park Service, the Berkeley County sheriff’s department, Harpers Ferry police, Martinsburg police, Chesapeake Search & Rescue K-9 and Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S., Inc. were part of the search.

    In February 2014, according to federal prosecutors, Larry Shelby returned to his Martinsburg home where he hid out until June. At first, Ihlenfeld said, the kids did not know their father was hiding out in the family basement.

    “Eventually, (Larry and Karen Shelby) surprised the children and advised their three children that their father was actually alive, but they instructed them not to tell anyone that he was in fact living in their house,” Ihlenfeld said.

    Yeah, well, none of that worked and now he faces 16 years in prison while his wife and his friend are looking at more than ten years in prison, you know, after they’re presented with their “Parents of the Year” Award.

  • NY State Sen. Tony Avella wants to ban machetes

    NY State Sen. Tony Avella wants to ban machetes

    State Sen. Tony Avella

    From the New York Daily News comes the story of NY State Sen. Tony Avella who, after some vicious machete attacks in New York City wants to make possession of a machete worthy of a year imprisonment in that state;

    State Sen. Tony Avella plans to introduce a bill to ban the possession of the scary blades in New York.

    “The fact that anyone can easily purchase this potentially lethal tool is just crazy,” he said.

    Smaller knives such as switchblades and gravity knives are already banned and listed as deadly weapons under state law, but machetes are considered the same as butcher knives.

    Do you know what else they could do? They could make it illegal to kill people with a machete. What? It is already? And people aren’t obeying that law? Then, by all means, let’s write another law that criminals won’t obey. By the way, Senator Avella, you said it all in your little comment – it’s a “tool” that’s “potentially lethal”. So are nail guns, circular saws and hammers. And, oh, yeah…guns. The part that takes them from “potentially lethal” to “lethal” is the person who is holding the tool.

    Is there some kind of contest that the rest of us don’t know about in the New York State legislature for the most ridiculous legislation?

  • More Brian Williams lies uncovered

    More Brian Williams lies uncovered

    I’m having a hard time getting mad at NBC’s news reader for his constant stream of lies – I never watched NBC News anyway. They did a really great interview with TSO & me a few years back, but other than that – meh. But, I guess everyone else is mad at them for not busting Williams sooner themselves. The latest bust comes from the Huffington Post who is pouring through every transcript of every word that Williams ever uttered, apparently, because he told David Letterman that he rode into Baghdad with a bunch of SEAL;

    “We have some idea which of our special operations teams carried this out,” Williams told David Letterman on “The Late Show” the night after bin Laden was killed. “It happens to be a team I flew into Baghdad with, on the condition that I would never speak of what I saw on the aircraft, what aircraft we were on, what we were carrying, or who we were after.”

    Williams mentioned SEAL Team 6 again on the “Nightly News” the following night. “I happen to have the great honor of flying into Baghdad with them at the start of the war,” he said.

    Williams went on to elaborate further on his experience with the special team in later Letterman appearances and claimed — on the “Late Show” and in other interviews — to have received gifts from the SEALS over the years since their flight into Baghdad, including a piece of Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into the courtyard of bin Laden’s Abbottabad hideout.

    Yeah, I can see a SEAL who, after just finishing off bin Laden, scurrying to get his ass out of Indian Country and passing by the crashed helicopter saying to his buddy “You know who would like a piece of that wreckage – Brian Williams, that’s who.” Not Gary Sinise, not Robin Williams, but Brian Williams. Because Brian Williams told us that he has our “6” in that commercial.

    Ya know, Williams deserves to be fired, but not as much as that traitorous bunch of liars at MSNBC – any one of them – pick one. the reason that Williams hasn’t been busted before is because no one was really paying attention to him before, so how much harm did he really cause? I mean, if anyone had been listening to him, that SEAL story would have sunk him long ago. That should be NBC’s primary concern. Who can really get mad at their liars if no one is listening to what they say?

  • Manning goes to the chop shop

    Manning goes to the chop shop

    I’m sure this wasn’t included in the Military Retirement and Compensation Modernization Commission report, but apparently, according to links sent to us by Andy11M, Ex-PH2 and Hondo, the Army has approved Manning’s trip to the alteration shop;

    Defense Department officials said Thursday that the hormone therapy was approved Feb. 5 by Col. Erica Nelson, commandant of the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where Manning is serving a 35-year sentence.

    The treatment would enable the Army private formerly known as Bradley Manning to make the transition to a woman. Manning changed her legal name in April 2014.

    The officials were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. The memo approving Manning’s hormone treatment was first reported by USA Today.

    No money for the health care of veterans who served honestly and faithfully, but there’s always money to throw away on criminals and social programs, I guess.

    The decision came after a lawsuit was filed in September in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. It alleged Manning was at a high risk of self-castration and suicide unless she received more focused treatment for gender dysphoria, the sense of being a woman in a man’s body.

    I’ll give the boy a knife to help him. He’s in prison, how could he be at high risk for anything? Don’t they keep an eye on those fellows?

    Whatever, go ahead, but don’t tell me that there’s no money to treat my service-connected disabilities.

  • Yer Sunday Silly: Look, Up In the Sky! It’s a . . . WTF?

    Well, it appears we in the USA have no monopoly on government stupidity – or gullibility. Looks like the folks in New Zealand can give us a run for out money.

    In the city of Auckland, the city council commissioned some public art. They paid the artist the equivalent $147,000 (US).

    They got what is purportedly a sculpture of a cloud – indeed, it’s titled “Transit Cloud” . It’s currently suspended over a walkway near a major transit hub, on public display. It’s seen by thousands daily.

    I say it purportedly looks like a cloud because, well, that’s not exactly what I’d say it looks like to me. But I guess YMMV.

    The sculptor says his “sculpture” was indeed supposed to represent a cloud, and further that he “was confident it would look different once 50 metres (165 feet) of neon lights were connected to it and lit up inside the structure.”

    Yeah, right. Somehow, I don’t think so – at least not in broad daylight when people can see it.

    You could not make this sh!t up if you tried.
