  • VoteVets Ginning up false issues

    Remember when Votevets tried to convince us that clean energy is a veterans’ issue and they blew all of that money on an idiot ad that tried to make an issue of connecting IEDs to clean energy? Well, with the election coming up next year, they’re doing the same thing with Republican candidates – well, with Rick Perry, anyway. He must’ve influenced Soros’ ex-girlfriend to sue Soros or something. Anyway, now dicksmith and the gang over at VoteVets is saying that Perry tried to keep veterans from voting;

    [S]aid Allen Vaught, an Iraq War Veteran, who was awarded a Purple Heart. “Iowans, and Americans at large should know, however, that Governor Perry put partisan politics above the rights of veterans by recently signing a Voter ID Law in Texas that prohibits veterans from using their Department of Veterans Affairs ID card to vote.”

    Yeah, what Perry did was sign legislation sent to him by the legislature which required a FREE voter ID card according to the Dallas Morning News;

    Sen. Troy Fraser, R-Horseshoe Bay, author of the bill, noted that it will allow Texans to get a state ID card for free from the Department of Public Safety. The state ID is one of the photo IDs that would establish the voter’s identity for voting purposes.

    Emphasis is mine, in the event that some doofus can’t see where it says “free”. But the whole point is that veterans can’t use their VA ID. I don’t even have a VA ID card – I never have. But I do have a military retiree card, a drivers’ license, a passport, a CCW license and an assortment of security badges. What veterans are walking around out there with nothing but their VA ID card? And how often do they vote?

    Vaught added, “Governor Perry knows full well that a Veterans ID Card is a legitimate, government-issued ID. In some cases, it’s the only government ID a veteran has. Veterans fought to protect our democracy. Yet, Governor Perry’s ill-conceived voter ID law will ensure that some veterans don’t get to participate in the democracy they fought to preserve. That doesn’t earn the respect of any man or woman in uniform that I know. I’d urge the press to dig into Rick Perry’s record on veterans issues. They’ll find his record doesn’t stand up to his blustery rhetoric.”

    Emphasis is mine again. Put a cork in it, Vaught. That’s all drama queen bullshit. Didn’t you read the part where I said that Sen. Troy Fraser wrote the bill? The bill Perry signed that passed the Texas legislature didn’t specifically target veterans – it targeted unqualified voters. Our troops don’t want to serve the will of unqualified voters more than they don’t want to get a free Texas ID card., ya pimple.

    Thanks to TSO for the links.

  • Obama’s triple-A nation

    I actually sat through Obama’s last lecture to the nation and listened to him tell us how there’s nothing wrong with our economy. Quoting from the Associated Press;

    In his first public comments on the credit downgrade, which S&P announced late Friday, Obama said Washington had the power to fix its own political dysfunction.

    “Markets will rise and fall,” he said. “But this is the United States of America. No matter what some agency may say, we’ve always been and always will be a triple-A country.”

    That’s the problem with Democrats…they make policy without understanding that what they do nullifies much of their policies. For example, they raise cigarette taxes thinking sales will continue at the same rate as before the tax was imposed. they don’t take into account that people will smuggle, cut back their smoking or even quit, thus cutting revenue.

    In the case of the current debate, they don’t recognize that raising taxes on the employers will hurt employment as well as how much employers will spend on new equipment thus impacting the whole economy. The only reason they want to raise taxes is to show the ignorant that they’re willing to “tax the rich” and make them “pay their fair share” while most of the country pays little or no taxes.

    The Standard & Poor people came out and said they downgraded our credit rating because of the partisan rancor in Washington and the only people playing politics with the economy are the Democrats. Republicans have presented rational plans that would actually cut government spending, which we can all agree is the problem, but the Democrats are that afraid buying into that would alienate the class which depends on government largesse – their constituency.

    Democrats talk about increasing revenue sources which is long hand for raising taxes. But after President Bush cut taxes, revenues were actually higher than under Clinton – because there was full employment mostly.

    Yes, President Obama, the US is a triple-A nation, but your policies don’t happen in a vacuum. Your policies have made us a double-A nation and all of the pretty rhetoric and incessant yammering about cutting payroll taxes and increasing unemployment eligibility is falling on deaf ears because we’re looking at becoming a single A nation in a few months. You have to cut the size of government and loosen regulations on businesses and quit threatening employers with higher taxes, that they’ll only pay with increased prices in the marketplace, which begins the ugly cycle we’ve been battling the last two years.

    And there’s more to cut than defense and nickel and diming retirees of all stripes to death. My 401k lost $13,000 in value last week – that’s what I planned to spend in a single year of my retirement – so that’s a year longer I’ll have to work if this gang doesn’t get it’s act together. And it’s not counting what I lost today. I haven’t moved a dime of my money because I still have faith in the US economy, but it’s time for the Democrats to do the right thing for the country for a change instead of their re-election efforts.

  • Harry Reid: Did I mention that I hate Bush?

    I caught myself dozing off a few minutes ago, which is bad since I’m supposed to be working. I glanced up and discovered why I was suddenly so drowsy – Harry Reid, the VoteVet-supported draft dodger, was talking to the Senate just prior to their vote on the “debt deal”. That droning, monotonous voice always puts me to sleep.

    Anyway, I listened to him blame former President Bush for our current financial difficulties and tell us how there was a $7 trillion surplus under Clinton. Funny, but the Democrats controlled the Senate for the first two years of the Bush Administration and both houses for the last two years. I don’t remember them doing anything to cut spending during those years.

    In fact, I remember Bush and McCain trying to rein in Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac while those two organizations were enabling people to buy homes they couldn’t afford before the housing crisis. In fact, I sat out the housing boom in a tiny apartment while everyone was telling me how I needed to buy a house and get in on it. Everyone including the Democrats.

    I have one simple rule when it comes to my money and investments – if everyone else is doing what I’m doing, I need to stop doing it.

    So after the housing bust, I bought a house and the only money I borrowed was from myself. Now I’m not especially smart, but if people are selling me a long-term loan and their sole selling point is “Rates have never been lower”, I’m pretty certain that rates are going to go up sooner than they’ll go down further or remain the same.

    But that’s the deal Democrats are trying to sell to the American people…again. They’re upset that they didn’t get to tax the rich, but that doesn’t mean that tax revenues aren’t going to go up. When Bush cut taxes, revenues exceeded the Clinton years revenues two years after the tax cuts took effect and every year afterwards.

    But somehow, it’s appealing to Democrats to “tax the rich” and as we discovered after the Clinton tax hikes, everyone who has a job is rich – even retirees on fixed incomes.

    But Reid was doing what he’s always done best – take the easy way out – blame the guy who hasn’t been in office for more than two years and complain that he can’t increase taxes.

  • NYT: The Norway slaughter is the fault of US bloggers

    You knew that somehow it has to be our fault that Anders Behring Breivik murdered scores of Norwegians on Friday, and the New York Times is quick to point fingers;

    The author of a 2009 Department of Homeland Security report on right-wing extremism withdrawn by the department after criticism from conservatives repeated on Sunday his claim that the department had tilted too heavily toward the threat from Islamic militants.

    The revelations about Mr. Breivik’s American influences exploded on the blogs over the weekend, putting Mr. Spencer and other self-described “counterjihad” activists on the defensive, as their critics suggested that their portrayal of Islam as a threat to the West indirectly fostered the crimes in Norway.

    Oh, look, there’s that Homeland Security Department report again. Imagine my surprise. There are millions of Americans ho read those blogs and have yet to act on their “fears” in the way that Behring Breivik acted on his fears.

    The killings in Norway “could easily happen here,” [Daryl Johnson, the Department of Homeland Security analyst who was the primary author of the DHS report] said. The Hutaree, an extremist Christian militia in Michigan accused last year of plotting to kill police officers and planting bombs at their funerals, had an arsenal of weapons larger than all the Muslim plotters charged in the United States since the Sept. 11 attacks combined, he said.

    Yeah, the Hutaree boogeyman – we looked at laughed at the Hutaree last year. Nine guys who played soldier in the woods on weekends were going to embroil the nation in civil war. And if they’re so dangerous, why are they out of jail on their own recognizance. One of them was declared incompetent for trial earlier this month.

    The Times waves the Oklahoma City bloody shirt, too;

    John D. Cohen, principal deputy counterterrorism coordinator at the Department of Homeland Security, said Ms. Napolitano, who visited Oklahoma City last year for the 15th anniversary of the bombing there, had often spoken of the need to assess the risk of violence without regard to politics or religion.

    “What happened in Norway,” Mr. Cohen said, “is a dramatic reminder that in trying to prevent attacks, we cannot focus on a single ideology.”

    So what if that single ideology has people in this country facing trials this week. There is a more immediate threat in this country that no one except bloggers recognize, and it’s completely irresponsible og the New York Times to place the blame on anyone except the guy who perpetrated the crime. Most of us are just content to be aware of the threat and prepare ourselves to face it when it knocks on our door.

  • Anders Behring Breivik

    So this weirdo, Anders Behring Breivik, has taken over the news cycle since yesterday and at last count cost 91 92 people their lives and several injured. That’s him in the picture above sent to me by Scott who says it a US Marine uniform and the picture was in his 1500 page word manifesto. I see a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, South West Asia Theater medal, a Valorous Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation and I think there’s a Vietnam Medal in there, too.

    At Weaselzippers, they say he considered himself a “Marxist hunter” This is supposedly the video he put on the internet along with the 1500 page word manifesto about how he didn’t like the way the world was changing around him.

    If that is his video, I think it’s a little strange how it’s all in English, as if he thought all of us Englich speakers would stand behind him or something.

    I guess he spent an hour and a half blasting people, and not the little brown people he claims his whole demonstration was all aboute. At Stars & Stripes they intimate that SWAT helped him in his endeavor to kill copious numbers of innocent people because they decided to drive to the scene instead of taking their helicopter. I guess he surrendered as soon as the police confronted him…too bad they couldn’t have done that sooner.

    As much as you believe Wikipedia, the gun laws in Norway are fairly restrictive. You have to have a reason like hunting or sporting to own a weapon. Self-defense isn’t an approved reason to on a weapon in Norway. And you have to have clean police record to get a permit and the police are allowed to search your house to insure you have your weapons stored properly – after they give you at least 48 hours notice that they’re on their way.

    The last line of the Wikipedia entry might change in the near future;

    There is no apparent public desire to introduce a concealed carry permit at this point in time, and there is no such license available to civilians.

    UK’s Daily Mail takes advantage of this opportunity to take pot shots at Norway’s gun laws;

    The fact that Breivik was able to perpetrate this monstrous deed is partly a reflection of the extremely liberal gun laws that operate in Scandinavia.

    We can probably expect the same blather to come from the US press.

  • This is what justice looks like?

    Cortillaen sends us a link to Jim Hoft’s post at Big Government in which The Gateway Pundit describes the trial of the two white SEIU union thugs who beat Kenneth Gladney, a black conservative, at a rally for Rep. Russ Carnahan. The beating was caught on video;

    So the thugs were found “not guilty”

    UPDATE: (From a source in the courtroom) Closing Arguments- The defense attorney pointed out how Ken had been glory hounding making money off this… Claimed Ken changed his story on TV… Claimed Ken is a tea partier because he came to our protest right after….OMG he just said the tea party paid Ken to promote their agenda…. I assume he means the bus tour….This is not looking good for Ken.

    (Of course, none of that has anything to do with the fact that he was beaten by thugs and it was caught on tape!)

    UPDATE: Contacts in courtroom wonder if case is being thrown. NOW the case goes to jury.

    UPDATE: NOT GUILTY! SEIU thugs cleared in video-taped beating of Kenneth Gladney.

    So a video taped beating of a black man by white thugs is generally ignored by the media because of the politics of that black man. Nice.

  • Zombie: Justice justice

    Our buddy Zombie sends us a link to the latest at Pajama Media and Zombie wants justice justice;

    I demand justice justice.

    No, I don’t have a stutter. What I want is justice for the word “justice” itself.

    Because, you see, “justice” has been hijacked by the American left and is now their exclusive weapon. It is no longer a politically neutral word; whenever you see the word “justice” — especially preceded by another noun — it invariably is meant to convey some far-left position.

  • RWN interviews Ann Coulter

    Our buddy, John Hawkins of Right Wing News sent us a link to his interview with Ann Coulter in regards to her latest book, “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America“.

    Here’s a sample of the interview;

    Hawkins: One of my favorite quotes from your recent columns is, “As Schlafly says, no wonder liberal women think men are pigs: Their men are pigs.” What would you say to liberal women who claim conservative men aren’t any different from liberal men?

    Coulter: A liberal’s idea of being chivalrous is to hold the car door for you before driving you off a bridge. Also, a conservative guy will never ask to “role play” with you as the sexy nurse and him as the senior citizen with a pre-existing medical condition who wants a single-payer government health plan.

    Go read the rest, even if you’ve been banned from the Coulter discussion forum for calling the moderators gay.
