  • That whole civility thing

    Cortillaen sent us a link to a Warner Todd Huston post on Big Government about a Pennsylvania State Representative who asked a colleague on the floor of the legislature if he would mind if she could blow his brains;

    In open debate, right on the floor of the House, [Pennsylvania State Representative Margo Davidson of Philadelphia] said, “If the gentleman from Butler County stood yelling, knowing that he’s a gun-toter, and I felt threatened, would I be protected under court law if I blew his brains out.”

    After this outrageous utterance, the Pilly Inquirer’s John Baer reports that Rep. Davidson was so pleased with herself she “giggled.”

    Of course, the debate was about expanding Pennsylvania’s “castle doctrine” – the rights of law abiding Pennsylvanians to protect themselves with those evil firearms. As Huston says, imagine if a Republican white male had said the same to a black woman.

    It’s nice to see that Democrats are taking advantage of this new age of civility since the shooting in Tucson which was supposed to be the gun control crowd’s 9-11.

  • The “Progressive” Caucus budget plan

    The intrepid Dana Milbank braved yesterday’s rain storm and blather tsunami to bring the highlights of the Congressional Progressive Caucus budget scheme which is neither progressive nor a budget;

    “We’re going to call forth the sun!” Rep. Keith Ellison, the Minnesota Democrat who is co-chair of the caucus, proclaimed theatrically. His colleagues huddled under umbrellas and the wind knocked their promotional poster from its easel.

    Ellison and the progressives probably would have a better chance of influencing the weather than they would passing their budget, which they are floating as an alternative to the House Republican bid and President Obama’s plan.

    Among the highlights: A $4 trillion tax increase over 10 years. An increase in the top tax rate to 49 percent. A $2.3 trillion cut in defense spending – and an increase in domestic spending. Oh, and they would revive the “public option” to offer government-run health care.

    Of course, the only thing the liberals want to cut is defense, increasing taxes and domestic spending. That’s the best their pot-addled brains could concoct – class warfare tax hikes and increased spending to buy votes. I wonder where the phrase “tax and spend liberals” comes from?

  • LA Times discovers Clinton’s “balanced budget” secret

    For more than ten years we’ve heard about how fiscally conservative Bill Clinton balanced the budget and how fiscally irresponsible Republicans screwed that all up with their wasteful spending on tax cuts and two unnecessary wars. I’ve been saying for years that the only reason Bill Clinton had year-over-year surpluses the last few years of his presidency is because he slashed the military and the Pentagon spending and because of Roth IRA conversions. The LA Times finally came around to the Roth IRAs idea earlier this week.

    In 1997, Clinton and Congress created the Roth IRA – after tax money growing tax free. They also allowed for pre-tax money in IRAs and 401ks to be converted into Roth IRAs, after you paid the taxes due on your pre-tax money. Billions of dollars that wouldn’t have been taxed for more than a decade was suddenly taxed. So billions in unexpected revenue flowed into the Clinton Treasury.

    And now, liberals see how this is working to their disadvantage – with $billions of untaxed growth sitting in private Roth IRAs, they don’t have any new schemes to get their grubby little paws on it. So the LA Times recommends that the government scrap the Roth and break yet another promise to tax payers and retirees.

    Gleckman is the editor of TaxVox, a blog published by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center in Washington. Here’s Gleckman on Roths for the rich: “In the long run, turning billions of dollars from tax-deferred to tax-free savings will be a huge loser for Treasury. My colleagues at Tax Policy Center figure that, through mid-century, allowing unlimited Roth conversions will reduce federal revenues by $100 billion.”

    Whatever the answer for individuals, there’s little doubt that Roths are wrong for America. They’re Frankensteins, fated to wreak havoc. It’s time to retire Roth IRAs.

    The Times reaches the conclusion that anything that’s good for the taxpayers is bad for the government – which is usually true. That’s why the Bill of Rights protects us from the government. The untaxed growth in my Roth IRA helped pay for my house (under certain conditions, you can withdraw limited amounts of the growth and principal from a Roth before age 60 – I called the IRS first, so should you) so the government didn’t get a share of my money, but it went into the economy just the same. Where do you think it did the most good?

  • Silky Pony; I’ll kill myself before I go to jail

    According to the Daily Mail quoting the National Enquirer, John Edwards has threatened to commit suicide before he goes to jail;

    The former North Carolina senator has been under federal grand jury investigation since April 2009 for alleged payments to take care of Miss Hunter in violation of campaign rules.

    Probes have been carried out by both the IRS and the FBI.

    There are hundreds of service members contemplating suicide this moment because of what they did and saw for this country and we’re supposed to feel sorry for this asswipe who’s contemplating suicide because he may have to pay for crimes he committed. And he was the Democrats’ best choice for Vice President just seven years ago? Perfumed pussy.

    I hope the suicide hotline hangs up on him when he finally summons the testicular fortitude to put the gun in his mouth. Hell, I’ll loan him the gun. Totally worth it to rid the world of his legal mind. In tiny thimble-sized pieces.

  • Left-on-Left crime in hippie neighborhood

    CBS News is reporting that an “anti-Obama” protester was attacked by two hippies walking their dog in San Francisco yesterday. If you read down the story, the “anti-Obama” victim was actually a supporter of Lyndon LaRouche, the perennial unsuccessful Democrat candidate for president;

    Initial police accounts had indicated that the man had a sign supporting Obama, but witnesses later said it was an anti-Obama sign with a Hitler mustache drawn over the president’s face.

    Yeah, that’s part of the LaRouchies’ tactics to mimic the stereotypes of conservatives.

    Here’s a video I took of some LaRouchies at a Code Pink/VFP protest a few years back;

    They didn’t want me to video them, but the Metro cop told them I could film in public space.

    It’s good to see that the Obama Leftists have no aversion to attacking the other Democrat Leftists, though. Left on Left violence is always fun to watch – even though the folks who attacked the LaRouchie thought they were attacking a conservative.

  • Ya know where we really need a no fly zone?

    Laura Flanders, formerly of Air America, the liberal talk radio network fiasco, currently of GritTV and Counter Punch has decided that Sheriff Joe Arpaio is just as evil as Qaddafi because he wants to use aircraft to stop drug dealers, smugglers and general ne’er-do-wells from crossing his county.

    Qaddafi, after all, isn’t the only one using military technology against his own people. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, has launched “Operation Desert Sky” to round up “illegal drugs and human cargo”—read, men, women, human, immigrants.

    Um, criminals?

    Isn’t it time for a no-fly zone in Arizona? The state senate failed to pass Russell Pearce’s anti-immigrant bills, but Arpaio, who just recently performed a tank raid on suspected cockfighters for A&E’s TV cameras and Steven Seagal, is clearly escalating.

    Former GRITtv guest Salvador Reza, an Arizona immigration activist, says it’s unconscionable for Obama and the Justice Department to be part of Arpaio’s coalition of the willing. But beyond that, isn’t it time for us to put a stop to Arpaio’s violence once and for all?

    Really? Violence? Flying observation aircraft is now violence?

    Thirty aircraft will be used in the operation, and, according to the Cypress Times, will be furnished and flown largely by the sheriff’s armed volunteer posse—in other words, vigilantes. They’ll be armed with M-16s and a 50-caliber machine gun.

    Yeah, been reading about the border recently Laura? The bad guys down there have guns and shoot at American cops. It’s not like Arizona LEOs are going to be strafing innocent women and children, for Pete’s sake.

    It’s no wonder that Air America went broke if this bint is an example of the talent they hired.

    Thanks to ROS for the tip.

  • Jim McDermott; I’m tired of reading the Constitution

    You remember Jim McDermott, don’t you?

    He stood on the roof of one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces and declared that Hussein was more trustworthy than President Bush. Later, it was discovered that his trip was paid for indirectly by Hussein’s security service. And soon after he returned, he got a $5000 contribution from Shakir al Khafaji, an Iraqi-American businessman with ties to the Oil for Food scandal.

    John Boehner successfully sued McDermott for publicizing a cell phone conversation which Newt Gingrich had with his lawyer and Boehner.

    I think McDermott got tired of reading the Constitution a long time ago, but he just admitted it yesterday.

    He’s tired of the “little things” he’s had to deal with in the last 13 weeks. We’re tired of his little thing, too.

  • I wish, I just wish…

    Donald Douglas at American Power blog writes that “U.S. Progressives Endorse Anarchist Violence at London Budget Protests“. You really need to read how the Liberals are egging on the anarchists in this country to incite them to violence like what happened in England yesterday.

    I honestly believe that most Americans won’t tolerate the mindless rampage that we can witness from here.

    Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, the public service trade union, said that the turnout was “absolutely enormous and showed the anger of ordinary working people”.

    Yeah, ordinary working people don’t wear bandannas over their pimpled faces and smash windows of stores and offices.
