    Friday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories this morning. The first is from Florida;

    The resident was in bed when someone tried to force open his bedroom door, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office call history record.

    “All he could see was a hand and an arm reaching through the door with a dark colored sleeve,” the CAD report said.

    The 44-year-old resident fired his weapon into the door and heard the intruder running through the house. He didn’t know if he hit him or not, the report said.

    Deputies later found the bullet in a kitchen microwave, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office. They found no blood or other evidence that the intruder had been struck.

    The next story comes from South Carolina;

    The incident happened at a mobile home park on Tams Drive just before 8 p.m., said Chief Phil Webster with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department. Buchanan shot a man in the chest through a closed glass door that was separating the two men, according to Pat Dowling, public information officer.

    Webster said the department got the call at 8 p.m. Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the shooting.

    Representatives from the Solicitor’s Office also responded to the scene, and based on their initial findings and narratives, they advised the NMB Department of Public Safety not to charge Buchanan, until further investigation into the events surrounding the shooting, based on the Protection of Persons and Property Act, or the Castle Doctrine, according to Dowling.

    According to Horry County Solicitor Jimmy Richardson, the Castle Doctrine lays out a case for self-defense, and doesn’t apply just to someone being inside your home, but any place you have a right to be.

    The print article reports that the homeowner was taken into custody, but the video says that he’s free now.

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories this morning – the first comes from Indiana, like a lot of them have been lately;

    Police rushed to the Cash America Pawn on the 2400 block of East 38th Street shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of an attempted robbery and person shot.

    Once inside, police found the suspected robber dead on the scene. According to police, the suspect walked in the store with a hood over his head and pulled out a gun. Moments later, a customer pulled out a gun and shot and killed the suspect.

    Police later identified the suspect as 25-year-old Tyerre Allen of Indianapolis. He was also identified by IMPD detectives as a suspect in other robberies in the Indianapolis area.

    Early reports indicated the business owner was the one who shot Allen, but police later clarified it was a customer.

    Meanwhile somewhere else in Indianapolis;

    Around 12:30 a.m., police say two men broke into a home near East 35th Street and North Shadeland Avenue. A man inside the home told police he heard the men kick in the front door. The man said he grabbed a gun and shot one of the suspects. The other suspect, he told police, ran out of the home.

    The suspect who was shot was taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital, where he died.

    Police say the other suspect ran to a car where two people were waiting and drove off.

    And, in Chicago;

    The owner of Cal City Bakery, which opened for business in February, said he bought the weapon for protection but never thought he’d have to use it.

    He said a pair of men came into the shop at about 3:30 p.m., took a couple of hundred dollars out of the safe, and then tried to force him and another employee to the back of the bakery. That’s when the shop owner fired the weapon, striking one of the robbers.

    The other robber escaped, he said.

    Also, on the West Coast in Washington State;

    Police were called about 9:45 p.m. to a home in the 11000 block of Briar Road Southwest by the frantic couple, who reported that a trio of men knocked on their front door earlier in the night and forced their way inside.

    One robber had a gun; another had a knife.

    The suspects pistol whipped the man and cut the woman’s hand with a knife while tying them up, police spokesman Chris Lawler said.

    While searching for valuables, the suspects at one point went outside and the man was able to free himself and his wife. The couple shut the door to the room they were in just as the robbers returned and one of the suspects fired a warning shot through the door.

    The man, who had retrieved a handgun, fired twice at the suspects before he and his wife escaped to a back bedroom.

    Police believe one of the bullets struck one of the robbers. The suspects fled.

    And the fellow who struck, had his body dumped unceremoniously while the geniuses called the police and told them that they heard a shot.

    Meanwhile in California;

    Deputies responded to the property and found the two men standing on the front porch of the residence.

    Sprague told deputies he was shot by the home’s occupant, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

    Authorities said it appears Sprague forced his way into the residence, where a confrontation occurred, and the altercation led to Sprague getting shot.

    Sprague was flown to Enloe Medical Center.

    The man, who was not identified in the press release, told dispatchers he was receiving threats from Sprague and asked for extra patrol since he feared for his safety.

    Police said bullets grazed the suspect’s ear and back, and he was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment, and is currently in police custody at the hospital.

    The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Police added the homeowner was not charged and they do not expect any charges to be filed.

  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    Paratrooper justice

    Fred sends us this morning’s story which is a little different than most of our stories – this one involves a burglar who encountered a paratrooper who wasn’t going to be victimized twice in Washington State;

    Myers immediately recognized the guy because he’d seen him on surveillance footage when he broke into the basement Tuesday night and actually spent the night there.

    The couple didn’t know he was there until they found clothes and cigarette butts he left behind and reviewed their video.

    “He was moving around my house. It was so scary,” Megan Pierowicz said.

    The suspect didn’t steal anything except for a dress shirt; you could see on camera he managed to button it up backwards.

    “We joked all week about setting this place up ‘Home Alone’ style and having marbles roll down,” Myers said, laughing.

    On Saturday Andrew said the guy came back—maybe for his own stuff, maybe for some of Andrew’s stuff this time.

    There were no marbles—just a good old-fashioned fistfight to a soundtrack.

    “It’s been a running gag all week with people waiting to see how this thing ends so I did put music to it,” he said, showing us the video of the ordeal he edited together on his computer.

    It’s funny now, but the couple knows things easily could have ended much differently.

    Here’s the raw unedited version;

    If that’s not enough for you, Chief Tango is back with two more, the first from Michigan;

    A man is dead and two others are in custody after a deadly home invasion in Menominee county, Michigan. Police say 19-year-old Matthew Franjose and 20-year-old Thomas Hartman, both of Green Bay were arrested after trying to break-in to a home early Monday morning. A third suspect who police have not named was shot several times and killed as he entered the home on Rangeline Road In Mellen township.

    Prosecutors say the homeowner shot the intruder as he was breaking-in. That suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.NBC26’s Eric Crest has more on the investigation.

    Menominee law enforcement told NBC26 this afternoon they have an overwhelming amount of evidence to process in the weeks ahead.

    The next story is from Alabama;

    “The homeowner had got home, got out to open the gate on the driveway to their home and a group of four or five guys approached him from the across the street,” Berry said. “At least a couple of them were armed with hand guns.”

    Berry said the home owner told police he fired his gun after he was threatened by someone in the group of armed men.

    “I believe his quote was we’re going to kill you,” Berry said. “He had been over to his business here in town and had a gun on him for his personal safety. He said he fired into the air, but apparently the guy was close enough to him that it struck him in the face.”

    Berry said the group of men dispersed after the gunfire and the man wounded from the gunshot walked to a neighbor’s house for help. The homeowner’s wife, who was inside their vehicle waiting to go up their driveway, called 911.

    Berry said the 24-year-old man wounded from the gunshot was taken to Flowers Hospital for treatment. He said the man did not suffer life threatening injuries, but has had surgery.

    Monday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from Ohio, where a mother and her 13-year-old son were attacked in a convenience store. The mother had justifiably just got her permit to carry because of the fellow who attacked them in the store. After they shot her son in both feet, Mom, drew down;

    The mom, who doesn’t want to be identified, said she immediately recognized one of the suspects Kevin Hayden, when he walked up to Wilson Market Sunday. She says Hayden and his friends have been harassing her for years, after breaking into her home.

    She says she was so concerned, she went and got a conceal carry license this fall.

    The mom says she unloaded her gun, as Hayden and his friend ran away, still firing back. Hayden is now being held on $250,000 bond. Police say charges are pending for the other man involved.

    Her son is out of the hospital but he’s still recovering from the wounds.

    Sunday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from Missouri;

    The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said store employees were attempting to stop a man, later identified as 48-year-old Robert Lawson, who appeared to be intoxicated from leaving Karsch’s Market around 10:20 a.m.

    Employees told authorities they followed Lawson as he left the store and made his way to the vehicle. Lawson then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the employees.

    One of the store’s employees, a 23-year-old man from Imperial who has a concealed carry license, felt threatened, pulled out his own handgun and shot Lawson.

    Saturday morning feel good story

    Our feel good story today happened on Sunday in Atlanta when a group of four masked men broke into Jabari Sadler’ where he was watching TV with his extended family;

    Jarabi Sadler said he knew he had to react quickly when the intruders put their hands on his wife.

    “When he started pulling her clothes down, that’s when I lost it, and that’s when I attacked the guy,” said Jarabi Sadler. “Something just takes over you and you just go into survival mode at that point.”

    Jarabi Sadler said he was waiting for the right moment to attack the intruders.

    “While they were doing all that shuffling, I realized he wasn’t holding the gun firmly. He wasn’t holding it strong. So I was waiting for a time when I could attack,” Jarabi Sadler said.

    Jarabi said the gun went off when he tried to get the gun out of the man’s hand. The bullet went through the man’s leg and left a hole in the bathroom door.

    “I’m holding the gun like this, punching him in the face, kneeing him as much as I could. And he’s like, ‘OK. I’ll go. I’ll go. Just give me my gun.’ And I’m like, ‘No.’”

    The alleged gunman ran out through the front door, ending up in a neighbor’s yard asking for help. Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old David Wilson.
