    “[The homeowner] heard somebody in the back of his home,” said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely with BRPD. “When he went to investigate what was going on, he saw the individual inside the house and he confronted him and shot him.”

    Investigators said the homeowner found Boyette in a bedroom inside the home and shot him.”We definitely all look after each other, very well,” said Pete Dawson, a neighbor.

    “A man at home minding his own business has a right to protect himself and his family,” said District Attorney Hillar Moore.

    The homeowner will not be charged.

    Police added Boyette had a long criminal history and had drugs on him at the time of the break-in and shooting.

    Walt sends another from North Carolina;

    [Sixty-eight-year-old Joseph] Sapienza, a Marine Corps veteran who served four years in Vietnam, was watching television in his bed at 7:42 p.m. at his home on Davis Avenue. He heard someone prying off the lock and pulling the nails to the latch out of his front door.

    He grabbed his .45-caliber handgun, put it in a holster on his walker and began shuffling toward the sound. He flipped a hallway light on, yelled out to announce he was armed, and yanked open the door to see two men wearing ski masks.

    They jumped off his porch and practically tripped over one another trying to flee, Sapienza said.

    “It was like a keystone cops scene,” he said. “When they saw the .45, one ran one way up the street, and the other went the other way.”

    The next story comes from Alabama;

    Montgomery police have charged three Faulkner University students in the Wednesday night shooting death of football player Ryan Brooks.

    Police say Brooks, 19, of Chelsea was shot by a homeowner in the 5900 block of Woodmere Boulevard when he and three other students attempted to break into a residence to commit a robbery.

    The homeowner shot Brooks in self-defense, according to police.

    Montgomery police say those Faulkner University students involved in the home invasion robbery have been charged with murder.

    They are: Marshall Wall, 19, Ronnie Williams 19, both of Loxley, and Tabias Russell, 19, of Alexander City. They are being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on $75,000 bond.

    The next story is from Michigan;

    Albion public safety officers said a 20-year-old Albion man was shot while attempting to break into a home. Officers were called at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday to the 300 block of West Center Street to investigate a report of shots fired. Police said the resident of the home shot a man trying to break into the home. Police said they found a suspect in the 500 block of Cass Street who had been shot in the leg. He was taken treated at Allegiance Hospital in Jackson and released and then arrested on a charge of home invasion and taken to the Calhoun County jail.

    The next is from Texas;

    According to the Houston Police Department, it all started when two masked gunmen stormed into the Shell station on Wirt Road near Kilburn around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in northwest Houston.

    However, what they probably didn’t expect was that the store had been robbed before, so the clerk was ready with a gun of his own.

    The clerk when he told the men to leave they opened fire, so he shot back.

    He wasn’t hurt, but police believe he may have shot one of the suspects in the leg, because there was a trail of blood leading away from the store.

    The last story comes from Arizona;

    The first time [the store was robbed], a 22-year-old man was attending the cash register, but yesterday it was the store’s operations manager; a highly trained former Army Sergeant who took down the robber, using only his hands.

    “I know, what I did was not smart at that point, I acted and I knew it was probably him or me,” said Robert Grisko.

    Grisko is a manager at the market near 21st Avenue & Adams St and was the only person in the store Wednesday when he says an armed robber came in around 3 p.m. demanding money.

    “I thought it was a joke, by the time I got up and turned around he was already coming around the counter into the space, and had the gun pointed up and walking towards me,” he said.

    Grisko told the robber he couldn’t open the register. He said the robber then walked behind him, grabbing computers from the counter.

    “He was coming at me with two laptops here and the big iMac and had the gun up like this, at some point he must have realized he couldn’t get past me and I knew at that point he was going to shoot me,” said Grisko. “At that point I made my move, I popped the top off of his hands and took the gun from him out of his hands, the gun went off and shot down through the case and blew everything in the case. It also took out my phone line and from there I hand to hand took him out.”

    Grisko yelled outside for someone to call the police. They responded and the 29-year-old suspect was arrested. Police say he is hospitalized and will be for the next few days.

    Friday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories this morning, the first is from California;

    The incident, the chief said, began when the suspect, whose name wasn’t immediately released, tried to break into a car on the 1100 block of Pine Street.

    The suspect turned his attention to a man walking around the corner and hit him with a chair leg while robbing him, Suhr said. He said the victim did not immediately call police, but returned home, got ready for work and then emerged from his home and saw the suspect in Another Cafe at the corner of Pine and Leavenworth.

    The suspect was apparently startled, because he allegedly threw a cup of hot coffee on a woman. The man fled — with a barista in pursuit — and went into an apartment building on Leavenworth just as the off-duty police officer was coming out of his residence there, Suhr said.

    The suspect tried to rob the officer, who showed his weapon and police credentials and identified himself as an officer, Suhr said. The officer, not believing the suspect had a weapon, decided to take the suspect into custody “hand to hand” and reholstered his weapon, Suhr said.

    The two began fighting, at which point the suspect tried to grab the officer’s gun and was shot in the upper body, the chief said.

    As the struggle continued, backup officers arrived, but they could not get into the building because of a locked gate. The officer called out the gate code to his colleagues, who rushed in and took the suspect into custody, Suhr said.

    The next story is from Missouri;

    Police say three men on Tuesday attempted to rob Pooh’s Corner, a popular cop hangout. One of the men, Corey Wade, shot the former officer in the thigh.

    Authorities say the ex-officer, who worked for the department in the 1970s, returned fire, shooting Wade in the eye. In 2008, he also shot a would-be robber while working as a bartender at the tavern.

    The next story is from Georgia;

    Police were called to the home on Ashford Creek Drive for a burglary in progress just before 10:30 a.m. When they arrived, officers found the alleged burglar with a gunshot wound.

    According to police, the burglar rang the doorbell several times. When he didn’t get an answer at the door, the burglar forced his way inside the house, only to be met by the resident.

    The resident fired one shot, which struck the burglar in the head.

    The burglar was taken to a hospital. He was being taken in for surgery at about noon.

    Edwards said two suspected burglars jumped the fence that surrounds the small, non-descript building. The owner, who sometimes sleeps there because of ongoing burglary attempts, came out of the building and fired at them.

    One of the suspects was shot in the back and then ran away. A second suspect was confronted by the owner, slapped, and told to get off the property. He then also fled.

    Both suspects jumped the fence again on their way out, Edwards said. The wounded man was dropped off at UAB Hospital.

    Wednesday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story again this morning, this time it’s from Nebraska;

    According to Polk County Sheriff Dwaine Ladwig, a call came in at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday reporting that an intruder had entered a residence at Clear Creek East where two juveniles were residing.

    After becoming aware of the intruder Ladwig said one of the juveniles fired two shots from a firearm at the suspect. The commotion caused the intruder to flee on foot.

    The Polk County Sheriff’s Department and Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene, with NSP providing an aircraft to aid in the search.

    Ladwig reports that the suspect has not been found, and it is not known if the intruder sustained any injuries from the gunfire.

  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story is more instructive than an appeal to your emotions. It has the elements of a feel good story, but you should maintain control of your gun. It’s from Oklahoma and Chief Tango sent it to us;

    Officers say [Allicia Baily] Love and a man went to the garage sale and robbed the woman who lived there, taking about $200 in cash. Love admitted to police that she knocked the woman to the floor and hit her while her companion took the money from a cash bag, according to an arrest report.

    The woman’s 3-year-old daughter was home, and the victim reportedly asked Love to stop hitting her in front of the child.

    When the robbers let her up, police say the victim took a handgun from her back waistband and pointed it at them. The man grabbed the gun and struggled with the victim. Two shots were fired, one striking the victim in the hand, the report states.

    I guess the duo was sufficiently frightened that they left the scene of their crime and Ms. Love was scooped up by the police, but her accomplice is still n the loose with his new gun. Don’t point your gun at someone unless you’re ready to pull the trigger. The woman who was shot gave her attacker enough time to get to her gun while she tried to talk herself into firing the weapon.
