  • Flori-Duh. Yet Again.

    Headline tells part of the story:

    Florida man sits on gun,
    shoots self in penis

    Yeah, you read that right:  the damn fool apparently tried to use a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber as a seat cushion, and ended up shooting himself in the dong.

    The part the headline doesn’t tell? He could be looking at doing time, too.

    Apparently      this dumbass     the “fine individual” in question also has a substantial criminal record, including a previous conviction for cocaine possession.  At last report local authorities were considering whether he should be charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

    But on the bright side, here we could have an example of that rarest of individuals: a living Darwin Award recipient! (smile)

    Happy 4th, everyone.  And happy 241st birthday, America.

  • Stevie Wonder Could Have Seen This Coming – Part II

    Headline says it all:

    Crime drops in Phoenix after city drops
    sanctuary city status, former cops say

    Stands to reason, actually.  While some illegal immigrants are doubtless in the US in search of employment and/or because of bad conditions in their native lands, a significant number of them are criminals.  It doesn’t take a huge fraction of criminals in an area to have a measurable impact on crime statistics.

    Further, the criminals among those illegal immigrants have brought more than themselves here illegally.  In many cases, they’ve also brought their criminal gang ties and practices along for the ride.  Because of that, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that giving “sanctuary” to illegal immigrants also means giving sanctuary to some number of illegal immigrant gangbangers – as well as giving them a potential base of operations in which they can commit their crimes.

    I’ve got no problem with anyone who immigrates to the US lawfully.  But I do have a problem with those who didn’t.

    And I have an even bigger problem with public officials who look the other way at criminal activity.  Officials condoning “sanctuary” for those breaking Federal law are doing exactly that.

  • Elizabeth Honig admits to defrauding the VA

    Elizabeth Honig admits to defrauding the VA

    The Ashbury Park Press tells how Elizabeth Honig and her Computer Insight Learning Center ripped off the Department of Veteran Affairs of about $2.8 million;

    Authorities said Honig, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, enrolled veterans who were not eligible to join the school, unlawfully applied for benefits herself by posing as a veteran and allowed 62 out-of-state students to join the school, despite knowing the Department of Veterans Affairs – which approved the school – required veterans to learn on-site.

    Honig also allowed spotty attendance from students and did not report it to the VA, according to William Fitzpatrick, acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey. As a result, the VA continued to pay veterans who were not entitled to the money.

    Honig enrolled 182 veterans in her school, Fitzpatrick said, but the “vast majority” of the veterans were not eligible to participate.

    The VA approved the school to teach military veterans, including those veterans who received tuition assistance from the Veteran’s Retraining Assistance Program, or VRAP.

    […]

    In addition, Honig said she logged onto the applications system more than 100 times to claim falsely she was a veteran applying for benefits, Fitzpatrick said.

    She’s being sentenced in September and eligible for a ten year sentence in prison and millions of dollars in fines.

  • Kevin Patrick Mallory spies for China

    Kevin Patrick Mallory spies for China

    Kevin Patrick Mallory, 60, of Leesburg, Virginia, a self-employed consultant with GlobalEx LLC appeared in court yesterday to answer to charges of “making materially false statements to the FBI” and “gathering or delivering defense information to aid a foreign government.”, according to the Department of Justice;

    During a voluntary interview with FBI agents on May 24, Mallory stated that PRC1 represented himself as working for a People’s Republic of China think tank, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). Since at least 2014, the FBI has assessed that Chinese intelligence officers have used SASS affiliation as cover identities.

    Mallory told FBI agents he traveled to Shanghai separately in March and April to meet with PRC1 and PRC1’s boss. After Mallory consented to a review of a device he had been using to communicate with PRC1, FBI viewed a message from Mallory to PRC1 in which Mallory stated that he had blacked out security classification markings on documents transmitted to PRC1. Analysis of the device also revealed a handwritten index describing eight different documents. Four of the eight documents listed in the index were found stored on the device, with three containing classified information pertaining to the same U.S. government agency. One of those documents was classified TOP SECRET, while the remaining two documents were classified SECRET.

    According to the Washington Post, Mallory had served in the active duty military and worked for the State Department Diplomatic Security Service until 1990 and for the CIA until 2012;

    Prosecutors say Mallory sent three documents containing classified information, one of which was labeled top secret, to a Chinese intelligence operative in May.

    “Your object is to gain information, and my object is to be paid for it,” Mallory wrote to the Chinese contact at around the same time, according to an affidavit from FBI agent Stephen Green filed in federal court. Mallory allegedly added that he would “bring the remainder of the documents” on a June trip.

    “My current object is to make sure your security (sic) and try to reimburse you,” the operative allegedly replied.

    According to the Justice Department, Mallory received about $20,000 for his espionage by the Chinese.

    Thanks to David for the tip.

  • Bryan Moles, former Navy Corpsman, arrested in DC

    Bryan Moles, former Navy Corpsman, arrested in DC

    Chief Tango sent us a link of a story about Bryan Moles, a Pennsylvania man who took a scary black rifle and a scary black Glock handgun to DC. Someone tipped off the Secret Service that he might have those weapons in his vehicle and sure enough, he did. They found the guns in plain view in his SUV while it was parked in a hotel parking garage.

    In the linked article, Colbert I. King seems upset that Moles is getting all of the attention and the other guns confiscated by police in the District since then get no press. Mr King, should recognize that almost two thousand guns get confiscated by the police in DC every year – every year since guns were effectively banned in DC in 1974, according to police statistics.

    But, back to Moles. WTOP reports that these guns were taken from his home in Pennsylvania (the SKS makes an appearance again this week);

    In another Washington Post link, Moles told police that he was in DC to talk to President Trump. He seems to be a Trump supporter.

    Bryan Moles, 43, must report to the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center by 4 p.m. Monday after he told police that he had traveled to the District — with an AR-15 rifle, a handgun and more than 90 rounds of ammunition in his 2017 black BMW — to meet with President Trump.

    In charging papers, prosecutors said Moles said he came to Washington to “bring down big medicine business and big pharmacy” and did not plan to leave 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. until he saw the president.

    Moles is a licensed physician and former Navy corpsman. He told police, charging documents state, that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, had refused medication and was treating himself with marijuana, to which he was formerly addicted.

    According to the same Washington Post article, Moles served as a hospital corpsman from 1992 – 1996 at a hospital at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and that he was self-medicating his PTSD with weed.

    Whatever is going on, he’s sitting in jail after he left a court-ordered stay at a Georgia VA facility for an evaluation.

    A friend of Moles’s for 25 years — Lisa Della Ratta, 44, a nurse in Gulf Breeze, Fla. — has described him as a hardcore Trump supporter who grew up with weapons and might have been unaware of the District’s strict gun laws.

    Moles said little in court Friday. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robin M. Meriweather assigned him a federal defender and set his next hearing for June 21. Moles told the court he was suspended from his hospital job….

    If you’re confused, don’t feel alone. I don’t know what happened at Camp Lejeune 1992-1996 that might have made Moles suffer PTSD, I guess PTSD is just the go-to excuse for smoking weed these days.

    In other articles, Moles claims that he was taking the gun to a gunsmith to be reworked, but that doesn’t explain why he would need 90 rounds of ammunition or the handgun. Whatever he was up to, I’m glad he’s not up to it now.

  • Antonin DeHays,French historian, loots US National Archives

    Antonin DeHays,French historian, loots US National Archives

    Chief Tango sends a link from WTOP which reports that Antonin DeHays, a French historian, has been charged with stealing “dog tags and other documents belonging to U.S. servicemen whose planes had crashed during World War II” which he then traded for favors and sold on Ebay.

    On at least one occasion, the Justice Department said DeHays traded a dog tag from a Tuskegee Airman for the chance to sit in a Spitfire, the iconic British World War II fighter plane.

    The statement read that the thefts occurred between October 2015 and last Friday, and that investigators, following up a search warrant, found six dog tags and other documents at DeHays’ home. He was charged with theft of government records….

    Here’s a picture of DeHays returning a dogtag to a World War II veteran, James Kelson, in 2012 from this article in French;

    The Washington Post quotes my former boss, the Archivist of the United States;

    “The theft of our history should anger any citizen,” the Archivist of the United States David Ferriero said Tuesday in a statement, “but as a veteran I am shocked at allegations that a historian would show such disregard for records and artifacts documenting those captured or killed in World War II.”

    This is equivalent to Stolen Valor – stealing our heritage for personal profit.

    [Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.)] told CNN that he heard a loud “bam” behind third base.

    “I see a rifle, and I see a little bit of a body and then I hear another bam and I realize there’s still an active shooter. At the same time I hear Steve Scalise over at 2nd base scream — he was shot,” he said.

    Brooks said he ran to the first base side and hit behind a batting cage as gunfire continued. He estimated 50 to 100 shots were fired.
