US State Department Employee Charged

Yesterday, I said that I was sure there was more to come about this State Dept. employee, and I was right.  Here it is:  http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-intelligence-state-charges-idUSKBN1702U8

Candace Claiborne, 60, was charged in a Washington federal court with obstruction of justice and making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Her preliminary hearing is April 18. She is under house arrest until then.

She and an unidentified co-conspirator were given tens of thousands of dollars in gifts and wire transfers by Chinese agents beginning in 2011 in exchange for information about U.S. economic policy in relation to China and other diplomatic matters.

The US government has several times accused the Chinese of cyberhacking US government agencies and corporations. It appears those accusations had some basis in reality.

Maximum term for the charges is up to 20 years in the slammer, and a possible additional 5 years for lying to the FBI.  Naughty, naughty.

Nice to see our tax dollars at work, isn’t it?  I think it is way past time we cleaned house, but good.

I don’t understand these people: not that slumdog Pressley, not this broad, not any of the Navy officers and senior POs who took bribes from Fat Leonard, not any of the politicians who are rolling in crap handed to them by organizations as corrupt as you can get, and that includes The Weiner.

I just don’t get it.

That’s a lot of time with Jaunita, Bertha, Butch and “Strap-on Sally”!

Just 20 years for betraying one’s country? (And I’d bet even money on the 5 years for lying to the FBI would be served concurrently.)

Forfeiture of all assets, all benefits, repayment of all monies received as an employee from the time of the first bribe on, banned from receiving any government support (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security etc.) for life. Garnishment of any wages earned beyond the amount needed to buy one burger a day.

Turn her out on the streets in rags on the bad side of town a 11:00 p.m.

See if her CommChi friends will help her then.

Seems lite but look what Hillary got for destroying a country and murdering 4 men.

  3. “Claiborne and a co-conspirator not identified in court papers received such items as beads, a sewing machine, slippers cash, tuition payments to a fashion school in China and an all-expenses paid vacation to Thailand, prosecutors allege.”

    Seriously.

    1. MSG Eric

Those must be some damn fancy beads to be worth 25 years in the slammer.

  4. Ex-PH2

I hope she gets the maximum sentences and that they are consecutive with no time off for ‘good’ behavior, because I don’t think she knows what ‘good’ behavior means. After I read the Reuters article, I wondered just how close Pres. Trump may have been to the truth.

There’s no excuse for any of this, for any of those people. NONE.

I think she and ex-Chief Pressley should share a cell, a very small one.

  5. Hack Stone

She can always land a job with The Clinton Global Initiative.

    1. Roh-Dog

      Hahahahaha! You. Are. My. Hero.

    2. SFC D

Hack, are you certain she hasn’t been with them since 2011?

    3. MSG Eric

Not before she’s given at least vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Based on what crimes she was charged with committing, it looks like her pension is safe. And that house arrest business doesn’t portend well for the prospect of incarceration is she is convicted.

    1. UpNorth

Thinking the same thing, 2/17. Either that or the U.S. Attorney couldn’t be bothered to make a half-way decent argument for a high any bail. Which, as you said, doesn’t portend well for the prosecution and incarceration for this shitbird.

    2. MSG Eric

Maybe there’s potential for her to spill on everyone else involved, including higher level types that they want to prosecute even more?

  7. CB Senior

I think she will be hard pressed to find a sympathetic court or prosecutor in this one.
I have a feeling though we are going hear about her being and elderly woman and jail is no place for her.
Some of that is correct. Jail is no place for elderly men and woman, but she will be an older convicted felon. Jail is exactly where they belong.

The NYT story headline refers to this gal as a State Dept worker. Worker? So she kept the fax machines in good repair? Kept the copier stocked with ink and paper? Made sure there were plenty of legal pads to go around? Ordered the danish and bagels? Not quite. She is fluent in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, has a top security clearance, and was posted overseas to US embassies more than a few times.

    1. Sonny’s Mom

That’s just for clarification purpose. In other words: “Comrade Claiborne is a worker, not a peasant.”

      1. Old 1SG, US Army (retired)

        No, she’s a member of Hillary’s Politburo…

Probably will get to retire earlier will full benefits.

  9. the Obama/Clinton run state dept. strikes again….If the bottom of the food chain is corrupt so must be the top of the food chain to allow this type of nonsense

Washington DC and much of the federal bureaucracy is a massive freaking cesspool. I saw it with the VA and it’s evident to any casual observer. It’s a disgrace what passes for leadership throughout our government. Sadness, great sadness this is pretty much SOP.

Beads? Well, at least there is historical precedent – for $24 worth maybe the Chinese thought they would get Manhattan.

  13. Skyjumper

OK ex-OS2, you had me at “tuition payments to a fashion school in China”.

Not even a pair of Lotus shoes or a Chang’ao?

What a bunch of cheap bastards! 😉

    1. No doubt! There better be a free buffet for life ticket in the mix at the Full Ho II, rat bastards.

  14. Wilted Willy

I’ve been beating my F5 key to death for the last hour waiting for the WOT, I give up now, so go for it guys and gals~!

    1. 2/17 Air Cav

Keep hitting that key and, before you know it, it will be Friday in the USA.

    2. Only 23 hours more to go.

      1. Wilted Willy

Damn, I kept thinking today was Friday! Oh well, I am out of town tomorrow, so good luck to all!!

    3. Graybeard

I’d offer you a Shiner Bock as a condolence gift, WW.

I think there are a good number of us wishing it were indeed Friday.

      1. 2/17 Air Cav

No problemo. We can all agree that today is Friday. However, this week’s WOT will be published on Saturday and everyone must report for work Saturday, too.

        1. Graybeard

No only “No”, but “H311 NO!!”

I ain’t working in the office Saturdays. /grin

    And scene…

Paragraph 185 on or About June 7, 2016

…Claiborne instructed Co-conspirator A, “If you happen to talk to [Co-conspirator B] or any of them, just say..[Claiborne] is working in D.C. I’m sure they will ask – they’re spies.”

    1. Ex-PH2

And a large (snerrk!) to that, BNG. This just gets curiouser and curiouser.

  16. Stephen McCartney

Wrestle with pigs? Pigs like it and you lose ending up covered in shit. Hope it was worth it lady

  17. But not espionage, and if not, then what was she getting paid for?

(And 60 ain’t too old to work so it ain’t too old to go to prison.)

  18. ALVO

A TOP LINE GUNT if ever I saw one.
HANG THE BITCH. NO, R-E-A-L-L-Y, HANG ‘ER HIGH!
