SEAL Killed In Iraq Identified

SO1 Charles Humphrey Keating IV

The identity of the SEAL KIA in Iraq yesterday has been released.  He was SO1 Charles Humphrey Keating IV, based at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.  He was a native of Arizona.

SO1 Keating was reportedly part of a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) sent to rescue a small group of US advisors to the Kurdish Peshmerga when they and their Kurdish allies were attacked by numerically superior Daesh forces.  While performing that mission, he was killed in ground combat, most probably by AK-47 fire, IVO the town of Tel Asku, Iraq.

He was 31 years old.

If the name rings a bell, yes:  his grandfather was indeed that Charles Keating Jr.  However, regardless of his grandfather’s history of financial malfeasance the younger Keating appears to have been a decent  guy.

Rest in peace, brother-in-arms.  May God comfort your surviving family, friends, and professional colleagues.

No combat troops in Iraq, eh?  Yeah.  Right.

“the younger Keating appears to have been a decent guy.”

As he was a Navy SEAL NCO I would hope so…..
just as often, the apple falls far from the tree.

Noted that he also had a fiancée. His reminded me of these lines from Rupert Brooke:

These laid the world away; poured out the red
Sweet wine of youth; gave up the years to be
Of work and joy, and that unhoped serene,
That men call age; and those who would have been,
Their sons, they gave, their immortality.

I thought that very passage earlier without knowing those specific words … sad there will be no Keating V … for a Keating V would be a very proud son!

In every family history there are kings and horse thieves…judge this man by who he is/was, not his relatives.

May this fallen warrior Rest in Peace. (Or stand among the glorious warriors in Valhalla, whichever is his preference!)

And from what I’m reading, the fucknuts in the White House to say that this is a combat death.

My condolences to his family, friends, and the SEAL community. He went down fighting all the way. For an American fighting man who is heavily outnumbered, outgunned, and unwilling to surrender, that is everything.

I worry for all of them. They are engaged with an enemy that will torture and behead them or set them ablaze if captured. They must know that every engagement is a fight to the death, that even if outnumbered or surrounded, capture is worse than death. How can we put these warriors in such a predicament?

RIP young man, and thank you.

I’m curious how many deployments this fellow had.

    1. 2/17 Air Cav

Three–according to the PR, so I will say at least three.

      1. Kenyg

Everyone of these guys has had multiple combat deployments. This old man can’t help but tear up. God bless them.

I read where he went to the Naval Academy? If so, why is he enlisted? He must have resigned or washed out?

Or he didn’t attend at all, which appears to be the case. Stories carrying the info that he attended the USNA are sourced to the Associated Press. If the AP makes an error, it is carried around the globe.

    Direct from the know:

Word on the street is, he left a long line of brass as he advanced forward … taking the fight TO the enemy and neutralizing many.

Bless his soul, the Keating family and SEAL Team ONE (ST-1).

    Out!

At first I thought SO1 Keating was related to retired ADM & former NORTHCOM/PACOM boss Timothy Keating.

Senators John Glenn & John McCain (part of the Keating 5) got caught w/ their dicks in the glory hole…but their Senate colleagues just couldn’t drop the hammer on a famed astronaut & a Vietnam POW.

“And Lord if today is truly the day that you call me home, let me die in a pile of empty brass”

    RIP Warrior.

Where did I read where the majority of Kurdish Peshmerga had turned tail and taken off running from the advancing enemy? If that be true, we are already too far in to waste any more lives.

May God bless you and your family, our fallen brother.
Your life DID make a difference, and we shall be a forever grateful nation. No greater sacrifice can be found when a man gives his life in the defense of others.

Will be promoted to CPO posthumously – RIP warrior.
