Maurice Crutchfield; Army’s Most Wanted fugitive captured

Thomas sends us a link to the story that Maurice Crutchfield, one of the Army’s Most Wanted Fugitives was captured by the US Marshals in Detroit;

According to officials, on Aug.17, 1990, Crutchfield allegedly fired six rounds from a Mac-11 9 mm semiautomatic pistol into a group of people while he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado.

[…]

In August, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Topeka contacted the Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team and determined that Crutchfield was living under the name Shawrun Bishop in Metro Detroit.

Apparently, the Army has no photo of Maurice which makes me wonder if they were taking ID card photos in 1990. My photo was on my ID card that year.

    He only had what, 25 years before they finally caught him?

      Wish they’d never caught him….

    DoD was doing photos for IDs when I enlisted in 1967. Got a new one with every promotion.

    How could the Army have no photos of Bishop?

      The U.S. Military has taken pics for ID Cards probably at least since when, the 1950’s? And I’m sure they’ve taken Enlistment pics since pre-WWII.

      Don’t think they were using digital back then. There was also a policy if a solider was uglier than sin, they would use the photo of someone more presentable to make them feel better. Wonder if his was one of the many ID cards they used my photo on?

        there as a market then in ID cameras which made two or more exposures on Polaroid simultaneously – the processor cut them in half and one of the prints went on the ID card and one got stapled into the file, analog-style.

        This. Most likely what happened was that somewhere during the initial stages of the investigation someone “borrowed” Crutchfield’s file and the file copy of the photo was lost then.

    Carson or Riley? I think the news article misstated some info. I was at Carson in Aug 1990 and don’t recall that event. Plus, Topeka ain’t in Colorado.

    Regardless – good for the Marshals.

    I hope that Maurice/Shawrun likes himself some cockmeat sammiches with manmayo and tubsteak with nutbutter while he is doin’ time… ’cause that’s what’s on the menu at the BTJT (Bubba, Thor, Julio and “Tiny”) Deli.
