Coronado Turns Out to Honor SOC Keating

Last week, Coronado turned out to honor SOC Charles Keating IV.  Twice.

The first was on Thursday.  On that day, in excess of 1,000 turned out for a memorial ceremony for SOC Keating.  At that ceremony he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.  He was also posthumously promoted to Chief Petty Officer.

The second occurred on Friday.   Over 3,000 lined 6th Street for his funeral procession.  The profession took SOC Keating’s remains to the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, where he was interred in a private ceremony.

Rest in peace, brother-in-arms.  You did your duty, and you did it well.

And thank you, citizens of Coronado.

Sometimes it seems like there are two different countries living on the same land.

Fair winds and following seas, Chief! Praying for his family.

Imagine that–a REAL Chief Petty Officer, as contrasted with a pretend “Honorary Chief Petty Officer”.

Last Thursday on May 12th at 1000 as special memorial mass was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC.

Cardinal Dolan opened the mass and recounted …

His Eminence was recently in Iraq visiting a Christian village that had been decimated by ISIS, he went on to say that his visit was made safe and secure by a small group of US “military men”. Cardinal Dolan was later informed that SO1 Keating was there watching over him during that visit.

In attendance were CPO Keating’s aunt and uncle, close family friends, Navy SEAL Gold Star Mothers, NSW family members, active, retired, reserve and former NSW members, US Navy Color Guard, US Navy personnel from NYC metro area, FDNY Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, FDNY and NYPD units from across the city and representatives from many departments of the federal government.

The mass was televised live to the Squadron from SEAL Team ONE that is still deployed and to CPO Keating’s family back on the west coast.

    Very sad mass …
