Chicago’s Garry McCarthy resigns

Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy

Ex-PH2 sends us a link to the news that Chicago’s police superintendent, Garry McCarthy, resigned the other day. Mayor Rahm Emmanuel tells us that he asked for McCarthy’s resignation because he had become a “distraction.”

“This morning I formally asked Supt. McCarthy for his resignation,” Emanuel said at a news conference announcing a newly-formed task force on police accountability. He said while he was grateful for McCarthy’s service, it is an “undeniable fact that the public trust in the leadership of the department has been shaken and eroded.”

McCarthy never deserved the job in the first place. He was out of his depth.

What should be worrying to Emmanuel’s political allies is that McCarthy was loyal soldier of the political Left in Chicago. In February, 2013, McCarthy was on a local talk show and blamed legal gun owners for Chicago’s crime. In July, 2014, after a particularly bloody weekend, he had a press conference during which he called for tougher gun laws in Chicago, you know, if that’s even possible. This past summer, McCarthy blamed Chicago’s weak gun laws for the increased violence during the warmer weather. Since hardly any Chicagoan owns a gun, I have a hard time envisioning how the gun laws there could be tougher, you know, unless they tried to get tougher with the criminals who own guns there.

Loyalty means nothing to the Left, if they see an opportunity to make themselves look good, it won’t take long before you’re looking at the greasy side of the bus. McCarthy had been on the morning talk shows telling Chicago that he wasn’t going to resign – until he got hit by the bus.

ABC7’s Judy Hsu asked: “Should you resign, will you resign?

“Well, no, I’m not going to resign. I’m not going to give up on the city, I’m not going to give up on the good people of Chicago and I’m certainly not going to give up on the Chicago police department,” McCarthy said.

So, how’s the view from there, Garry?

Eventually they all turn on their own.

Its funny how Rahm asked him to resign.

All the while sitting on that video during the election.

How come no one asked for bathhouse rahm’s resignation? he is supposed to be running the show, just ask him!

  2. A Proud Infidel®™

Another one flushed down the cesspool, typical Chicago politics.

  3. Nonner

WHUMP WHUMP!! Alternately, it sounds like Rahm needed to throw someone overboard in a vain effort to keep his hot air balloon of an administration afloat.

I think it’s more of a lead balloon.

  4. Ex-PH2

Since I can keep up with the old homestead on line (ain’t the intertubes great?), the reporters were all saying he got fired.

Chicago being what it is, if there is ever even a month that is not laced with corrupt politics, the entire county of Cook will implode and sink back into the mud.

    Thump, thump, speedbump.

Suppose eventually police in large cities will refuse to engage the general populace to keep from being brought up on charges? Then they will be brought up on charges of NOT engaging. Then there will just be private security protecting individual companies and certain people. I admire LEO’s, but sooner or later they will be so hobbled and at risk of prosecutions and lawsuits it will no longer be a career choice.

    Good riddance.

hey bud, I replied to you on the White House article since you didn’t get a response from me in time and thought I went back to the sidelines. Please read it and enjoy fucking yourself tonight.

      Best Regards.

I wasn’t sure at whom Derek’s comment was aimed so I looked at the thread he referred to and report that his comment was directed at Lars. Oh, BTW, Lars. STFU.

    3. David

In fairness – Lars is right. McCarthy is a self-serving pol with no concept of how to deal with the problems the city has and constantly seeks to address illegal actions by attacking people who aren’t creating the problem. His boss is if possible worse and is so crooked he couldn’t pass through a doorway without making 27 turns. Good by and good riddance to all of them, all the way to the highest-ranking member of the Chicago criminal political caste (who currently resides several hundred miles east of there, if yaknowwwhadImean, y’know?)

      1. 2/17 Air Cav

Lars is right? First, he said nothing (thankfully) other than good riddance. Second, these are HIS people he is talking about. He may not have voted for the mayor but he sure in hell would have if he were a Chicago resident. I wonder how mant times Lars called for McCarthy’s resignation. In other words, this is a done deal so it’s easy as pie for him to chime in with his comment.

        1. David

yeah, but I figured out this is a once-in-a-lifetime happenstance when anyone agrees with him in any way. Circle it on the calendar, it likely won’t happen again

            Got ya.

  8. MSG Eric

If only those in charge actually took responsibility. Rahm needs to resign, let someone into Chicago who won’t be a corrupt dirtbag.

Riiiiight. . . about as likely as finding a virgin in a whorehouse.

In new news, it was let slip by one of Rahm’s tame journolists, from Politico, that Rahm is taking the family to a famous tropical paradise for Christmas. Because Rahm said his children “should see other cultures”. He’s taking the family to see Cuba. What a guy!!!

The Godfather looses his shit talking about how reporter outs his Cuban vacation plans!

Yep, he definitely went all “Rhambutt” on the guy… dude behaves no better than a spoiled 6 year old in a candy store.

      1. Hondo

Sort of like someone we “know and love” does when his half-baked arguments are challenged because facts support a different conclusion?

    2. Bobo

I wonder where he and his family are getting the visa for that trip.

      1. GDContractor

Or the guys with guns to protect his sorry ass.

    3. Climb to Glory

So, Tiny Dancer doesn’t like his vacation plans being leaked. Boo fucking hoo. Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares. He also doesn’t appreciate cops reading the police report of his sons mugging while he was making a late late night call to his “college counselor.”

That’ll teach me to read all the way down, Commenter Formerly Known as MCPO.

Now I see where Obama learned to be a lying sack of shit.

    1. Hondo

Yep. Dishonest politics – a Chicago tradition since . . . well, when was the city of Chicago founded?

      1. The Other Whotey

Old Scarface Al ran a cleaner operation than the modern Chicago Outfit. I wonder if Rahm brings a baseball bat to dinner?

      2. Ex-PH2

Well, when Chicago was run by the companies that did business there and the mayor was just a figurehead, it probably was better. But it really started in the 1920s during Prohibition and never ended after that.

After all, only one mayor of any city has ever had a bio written about him with the title ‘Boss’, and that was Richie Daley’s daddy, Da Maire.

  11. Veritas Omnia Vincit

Well they hire political hacks at all levels of the city, and that explains most of what you need to know about Chicago.

We have the same issues here in Massachusetts, the hack system keeps things from getting done under budget or on time.

Give your hack buddies a sweet deal in a senior management position, and give him a golden parachute when he screws the pooch so he can retire comfortably…and who’s stepping up to repair the system in Chicago? Rahm? That’s like saying Dillinger is stepping up to provide bank security.

  12. LIRight

    What’s worse than a Liberal?

Answer: a police boss that’s as liberal as Rahm Emmanuel.

    Good riddance.

    1. Hondo

Careful. Don’t think a replacement has been named yet. I’d hold off on the cheering until the replacement has been named.

As I’ve said before: sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.

      1. UpNorth

That’s the truth. I went through that twice in my time at the PD. Nothing ever got better.

  13. Dapandico

    Still keep his full pension.

  14. Silentium Est Aureum

Twitchy is going apeshit over this, knowing Rahm has sat on it, according to unnamed sources in CPD.

When even the NYT calls on the whole Mayor’s office from the top man to the janitor to resign; well you might have a problem.

It’s the missing 86 minutes of tape from a hamburger shop that is the bottom line on this. The State’s Attorney Alvarez is being asked to step down, too.

    1. UpNorth

Supposedly the Feebs look at the video machine in the Burger King and could find “absolutely no evidence of tampering” with the video, contrary to the manager’s claims.

FYI, Facebook and Twitter are lit up with with anti-gun rhetoric because of the “mass shooting” in San Bernardino. Never let a good crisis go to water.

    2. Bill M

“Never let a good crisis go to water”

Nah, it’s OK to piss on it.

  21. jonp

Rahm conspired with McCarthy to withhold the tape of that kid high on pcp getting shot up until after the election. That should be a crime.
