  • Trump targets al-Shabbab again

    According to the Associated Press, the US staged another air strike against the Somalian al-Shabbab training camps again, as the US steps up attacks on the al-Queda-linked group holding the failed-nation hostage. The strikes launched on Sunday are part of the larger strategy in the war against global terrorism;

    President Donald Trump has approved expanded military operations against al-Shabab, including more aggressive airstrikes and considering parts of southern Somalia areas of active hostilities. The U.S. in April announced it was sending dozens of regular troops to Somalia in the largest such deployment there in roughly two decades, saying it was for logistics training of Somalia’s army.

    The Horn of Africa nation is trying to rebuild after more than two decades as a failed state, and its chaos helped in the rise of al-Shabab. Now a new threat has emerged in the country’s north with fighters claiming alliance to the Islamic State group.

    At least this time, US troops aren’t being deployed under the guise of a meals-on-wheels program.

    Toronto Star: Sniper shot is no cause to celebrate

    Losing sight of the whole purpose of a national military organization, the editorial staff of the Toronto Star chastises their prime minister, Justin Trudeau, for “celebrating” the more than 2 mile shot accomplished by a Canadian sniper in the war against ISIS which we talked about last week.

    However heinous we may find members of Daesh and their sympathizers, they are human beings. They have homes and families and histories. No matter their crimes, their lives are valuable in the sense that all lives are valuable, and deserving of at least some degree of respect.

    We revile terrorists largely because they seem to have so little regard for human life. They measure their success by the amount of carnage they cause, and appear to find genuine joy in killing people. That, supposedly, is what sets us apart from them.

    That attitude is exactly why we’ve had such a difficult time wiping out the scourge of ISIS. The hand-wringing peaceniks who are unable to face the realities of the world influence the politicians which, in turn, hamstring our military with unproductive rules of engagement.

    From a modern vantage point, though, taking such glee in the lethal exploits of our soldiers is cringe-inducing, if not downright ghoulish.

    Our understanding of war and violence should have progressed by now, beyond the point where we talk about conflict only in terms of the number of “bad guys” we kill or how well we kill them.

    Too much time has already been spent lauding this sniper’s deadly shot, and Trudeau’s apparent satisfaction with the killing seems incongruous for a leader who pledged to return Canada to its peacekeeping roots.

    If we have learned anything from the last decade of war against terror, it’s that if we don’t kill them over there, we’ll have to kill them here at home. That might prove difficult in Canada since they’ve disarmed the first line of defense in their homeland – the Canadian citizen. Canada hasn’t been immune from the terrorists’ ire. The terrorist who stabbed a Flint, Michigan police officer recently was a Canadian citizen.

    From the Toronto Sun;

    Rehab Dughmosh is currently in custody facing seven charges including two counts of assault with a weapon.

    The 32-year-old mother of two allegedly entered a Canadian Tire store and, according to what sources told the Sun, became agitated and threatened to kill “white people” to avenge bombings in Syria.

    “I’m here for Syria. I’m going to kill everybody,” the woman reportedly screamed. “I want to kill all you white people. I’m from ISIS. I’m from Syria,” she allegedly told shocked onlookers.

    “You people are killing my people. You people are dropping bombs on my people.”

    Dughmosh allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” — God (Allah) is greater — before swinging a golf club at employees — at the same time of bloody terrorist attacks in London.

    Canada’s Global News publishes a list of terrorist attacks in Canada last year.

    A Canadian was murdered in the ISIS-inspired terrorist attack at London Bridge last month.

    ISIS loves to publicize their blood-thirsty executions of innocents in the areas that they control because of the terror that spreads throughout the world. That’s what they understand. That sniper shot disrupted an attack on our allies, publicizing that success will disrupt other activities, causing ISIS to spend their military assets to prevent the next shot.

    Back to the Star’s editorial board;

    Canada has just extended its commitment in Iraq for two more years. There will almost certainly be more cases in which it’s deemed necessary for a Canadian to shoot a member of Daesh. There will be more deaths.

    But as we approach Canada Day weekend, when millions will reflect on what it means to be Canadian, we have to ask ourselves: Do we want to be the kind of people who celebrate that?

    Can the West afford to not celebrate the killing of murderous thugs where they think they’re safe?

  • Justin Nojan Sullivan sentenced to life

    Justin Nojan Sullivan sentenced to life

    ABC News reports that Justin Nojan Sullivan was sentenced to life in prison for his plot to attack some public venue and kill hundreds of victims for a propaganda video to be used in ISIS recruitment ads.

    The suspect discussed his plans on social media with an undercover FBI employee who Sullivan believed to be sympathetic to his views, and he tried to recruit the person to help. After his mother discovered a silencer that was mailed to Sullivan, he offered the undercover FBI employee money to kill her and his father so they wouldn’t interfere, according to court documents.

    Authorities say Sullivan expressed his support for the Islamic State in front of his parents and smashed religious objects in their home. Rose said Sullivan’s father, a military veteran, contacted authorities, who were already monitoring the son.

    Sullivan is still facing murder charges for the time he stole his father’s rifle and shot a 74-year-old neighbor taking his victim’s money to fund Sullivan’s terror plot. Yeah, he’s just an evil POS – a 21-year-old who truly deserves a life sentence.

  • SEAL and Ranger claim wounds suffered in search for Bergdahl

    SEAL and Ranger claim wounds suffered in search for Bergdahl

    The Navy Times reports on an article from Task & Purpose wherein a Navy SEAL and an Army Ranger claim that they were wounded in the search for Bowe Bergdahl in the days immediately following his disappearance;

    Prosecutors are hoping to use their testimonies to convince a jury that Bergdahl both deserted his post and, more importantly, committed misbehavior that endangered his comrades.

    In July 2009, Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Mark Allen was shot in the head while searching for Bergdahl in the Paktika province. The next day, Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Jimmy Hatch was shot in the leg on a different search mission. Both men claim they were forced to retire because of the injuries, reports Task and Purpose.

    The judge in the Bergdahl case has ruled that these claims won’t be used during the conviction phase since Bergdahl hasn’t been charged with causing injuries to the folks looking for him.

    “All of the injuries occurred on missions that would not have happened were it not for the manufactured and unnecessary crisis,” wrote lead prosecutor Army Maj. Justin C. Oshana…

    Yeah, well, when the entire national strategy is disrupted by one butthurt snowflake deserter, there needs to be some accountability for that poor behavior.

  • Saudi cops foil terrorist plot in Mecca

    According to Reuters, Saudi security police foiled a terrorist plot to attack the Grand Mosque in Mecca during the holy month of Ramadan. Three terrorist cells planned the attack;

    The trapped would-be suicide bomber exchanged fire with the security forces, then set off explosives when he was surrounded in a house in the central Mecca neighborhood of Ajyad al-Masafi near the mosque that had been used as the base for the attack, the ministry said.

    The building collapsed, injuring six foreigners and five members of the security forces.

    Earlier in the day, security forces had shot dead a wanted man at another suspected Islamist militant hideout in Mecca’s al-Aseelah neighborhood.

    No one has claimed responsibility for the failed attack, but the article says that ISIS has claimed that they attempted other attacks in the holy city.

  • Canadian sniper’s longest shot

    Canadian sniper’s longest shot

    According to USAToday, a Canadian sniper has shattered the record for the longest shot with a rifle;

    “The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,” a military source — who requested anonymity because the unit’s operations are classified — told the paper. “Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening.”

    The 3,450-meter shot, which took about 10 seconds to reach its target, was independently verified by a video camera and other data, the source said.

    The prior record was held by a British sniper, Craig Harrison, who in 2009 shot a Taliban gunner from 2,475 meters, or about a mile and a half, away during an operation in Afghanistan.

    According to the Globe and Mail, the shooter was using a 26-pound, 57-inch long McMillan TAC-50 (C15 is the Canadian military nomenclature), which Wikipedia claims is a .50 caliber rifle with a maximum effective range of 1800 meters and 805 meters/second muzzle velocity.

    The rifle is made in Arizona.

  • “Possible” terrorist attack in Flint Airport

    Officer Jeff Neville is in stable condition after surgery when he was stabbed in the neck by a Canadian-born citizen in Flint, Michigan’s Bishop International Airport, according to Fox News;

    The FBI says the suspect is in custody and is being questioned. They are working to determine a possible motive for the attack.

    “We are aware of reports that the attacker made statements immediately prior to or while attacking the officer, but it is too early to determine the nature of these alleged statements or whether or not this was an act of terrorism,” the FBI said in a statement.

    This is believed to be an isolated incident, authorities also said.

    They’re all isolated incidents.

    Right wing reactionary network NBC News reports that a completely unexpected phrase was uttered by the perp before he stabbed the officer;

    The attacker allegedly shouted “Allahu akbar” before stabbing Lieutenant Jeff Neville, who was bleeding from the neck, sources and witnesses at Bishop International Airport said.

    Now, don’t jump to conclusions, I hear all Canadians use that phrase as a greeting.

    In a statement released by the FBI, officials said it is still too early to determine what motivated the attack, but that they were questioning the suspect.

    See, told ya.

  • Russian jet “buzzes” USAF RC-135

    Russian jet “buzzes” USAF RC-135

    Fox News reports that an armed Russian Su-27 flew within a few feet of an Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft yesterday over the Baltic Sea, after the Russians warned that they would start busting caps on US aircraft flying over the Levant after a Navy F-18 shot down a Syrian Su-22;

    Once alongside, the Russian jet was “provocative” in its flight maneuvers and flying “erratically,” according to another official.

    Since June 2nd there have been over 35 interactions in the Baltic Sea region between U.S. and Russian jets and warships, but the incident Monday morning is notable because the U.S. military considered it “unsafe,” according to one official.

    […]

    It was not immediately clear how close the US military recon jet was flying near Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave between NATO allies Poland and Lithuania. This fall, Russian moved nuclear-capable ballistic missiles to Kaliningrad, putting some European capitals in strike range.

    Meanwhile another Air Force F-15 downed an Iranian-built drone over southern Syria, says another Fox News link;

    This is the second time the U.S. has shot down an Iranian drone in less than a month. U.S. officials reported on June 8 that an American fighter jet shot down a drone likely connected to Iranian-supported Hezbollah forces. The drone fired on U.S.-backed troops before it was taken down. An Army spokesman at the Pentagon said at the time that the drone carried more weapons and was considered a direct threat.

    Monday’s incident also marks the fifth time since late May that the U.S. military has bombed pro-Syrian forces in southern Syria.

    Nice to see our pilots getting a little air-to-air experience. They’re probably getting tired of all of the ground support action.
