  • Nigerian phony soldier scammer indicted

    Mary sends us a link to the Associated Press about Adagun Moshood Olalekan who was indicted on four counts of wire fraud in Saint Louis this week related to a scam to defraud women posing as a widower sole-parent soldier;

    Investigators say he set up fake online profiles from September through last month, including one identifying him as “Lt. Col. Cadin Cayce Webb.” They say he used the photos of an actual soldier stationed in Afghanistan.

    The indictment alleges he described himself as a widower with a daughter and wooed American women with “romantic emails and instant messages” and “false promises of marriage” before getting them to wire money to Nigeria.

    I hope they pluck off each of his appendages slowly and one at a time. If, for nothing else, the amount of spam I get from these freaks. It’s a jungle out there, ladies. If he sounds too good to be true, he probably is. And, oh, yeah, sending money to Nigeria might be your first clue. Or the last clue, as the case may be.

  • Need a smile this morning? This will do it. (UPDATED)

    Our buddy Bev Perlson sends out the great news that little Susie Benjamin of Code Pink fame, has been locked up in Cairo, according to Kristinn Taylor, another of our friends at Gateway Pundit;

    Medea Benjamin in jail Cairo

    I’m not sure why she was locked up, yet, but just knowing that the little terrorist is off the streets makes the day better for me. You might remember that she supported the Muslim Brotherhood take over of the Egyptian government.

    So Egypt is doing the job that Americans won’t. I’ll bet that she wishes there were some Marines around now to help her out.

    UPDATE: Chief Tango sends us an update from Bloomberg that reports that little Susie has been deported Turkey.

  • PFC Tariqka Sheffey and her indiscretion

    You guys have been blowing up my inbox with the picture of PFC Tariqka Sheffey while she was hiding (from who?) during Retreat. yeah, it was all over Facebook and Twitter. It made the Army Times. And she tells her audience (us) that she “doesn’t give a f***” what we think. She probably does now.

    In my opinion, this is getting out of hand, not just the fools taking selfies of themselves while they’re misbehaving in uniform, but the whole “viral” thing, too. Here’s an example of how I chose to deal with a selfie dude;

    Last year someone sent me a selfie of a troop up in Fort Drum who was wearing NCO rank (he was an E-Zero or something, all of those privates look the same to me) and jump wings and a tab or two and a CIB. The guy who sent me the picture said he served with PFC Selfie and none of that stuff in the picture was true. PFC Selfie hadn’t deployed yet.

    So I looked him up on AKO, and next to his name was his squad leader’s name. Then I looked his squad leader up on AKO, got his email address and sent the picture to him along with a brief description of my duties here at TAH and left it up to the staff sergeant what should be done. A couple of weeks later, I got an email back from the squad leader thanking me along with a description of what had happened to the young soldier.

    That was much more satisfying to me than a pile of traffic and comments calling for PFC Selfie’s head and/or ass. I imagined endless push ups, hours of police call, piles of hand-painted rocks, and hours of layout inspections. It made my little black heart sing. I’ll admit that I became part of the whole viral thing for a while, but now it seems like the troops aren’t learning from the tribulations of others and it’s time to put the chain of pain to work on them.

  • Steven Jay Perrino; phony sentenced for fraud

    Mary and Chief Tango send us links in regards to Steven Jay Perrino, a fifty-eight year old in Hampton, VA who was sentenced to 61 months in prison and repayment of $120,000 that he stole from the government. From the US Attorney’s Office;

    On September 4, 2013, after Diplomatic Security investigative analysts discovered possible fraudulent passport applications, DS special agents, in conjunction with the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Office of the Inspector General, U.S. Postal Inspector’s Office, and the Hampton and Virginia Beach Police Departments executed search and arrest warrants, which resulted in Perrino’s arrest. On November 20, 2013, Perrino pled guilty to one count of theft of government money and one count of aggravated identity theft. According to court documents, Perrino assumed the identities of at least 5 different individuals dating back to 1986. Perrino was able to assume these identities by obtaining personal information and associated documents and then using that information to apply for official forms of identification such as United States passports and driver’s licenses. Perrino also enlisted in the Navy and Army under stolen identities. Following a 10-year fraudulent enlistment in the Army, Perrino applied for and received VA benefits in that person’s name. He was able to obtain more than $138,000 in benefits via the Montgomery and Post 9/11 GI Bills and federal student loans and grants.

    So, he did serve ten years, just not under his own name. That was reasonably stupid.

  • Kevin Shakely sentenced

    Kevin Shakely

    You may remember that we’ve been getting some inside information on Kevin Shakely, the clown who is fighting with the Army over the fact that he’s been a deserter from the Army for seven years. Last month, we heard that his trial was delayed so the Army could pay for fixing his stinkin’ teeth. Well, he was sentenced today. He got 18 months in prison, a reduction in grade to E1, loss of all pay and benefits, and a dishonorable discharge. However, under a plea agreement, he gets only 12 months in prison; the rest stays the same.

    Shakely faced four charges with a total of eight counts: 3 counts of desertion, 1 count of malingering, 2 counts of making false statements to military police and detectives, and 2 counts of obstruction of justice.

    The plea deal knocked off one count of obstruction of justice (he told a military police detective in a voicemail that he was SSG Kevin Shakely in an attempt to throw off the detective), and the malingering charge (he faked needing a wheelchair at one point).

    Shakely gets 117 days pretrial confinement credit, so he will serve almost 250 more days in prison. Since he was apprehended last year, he hasn’t been receiving pay or benefits, except prison medical care.

    According to our source, he will spend two hundred more days in prison than he did in the Army. Good, he needs to pay us off for the whitest teeth that Bubba ever…well, you know.

  • Wisconsin National Guard’s funeral detail

    I guess no one has learned that the reach of social media can make you a villain in moments. Last night, a photo circulated around the inter-stuff with a photo of a member of the Wisconsin National Guard complaining about being on funeral detail in the winter in that icy wonderland, followed by a picture of an entire detail horsing around a flag-draped coffin. The aforementioned Guardsman wrote that they put the “fun” in funeral. Of course, it sparked an outrage. By the time we went to bed, it was news;

    WISN 12 News has learned the casket shown in the photo was empty, but some online are upset at the caption at the bottom saying, “We put the ‘fun’ in funeral.”

    A spokesman for the Wisconsin National Guard confirmed for WISN 12 News that the woman is a member in Milwaukee.

    WISN 12 News reporter Christina Palladino reached the specialist by phone Monday evening. She told Palladino she was contacted by the National Guard Monday, but she would not comment any further on the photo controversy.

    I posted the pictures on our Facebook fan page, because I think visitors to this blog didn’t need to have their senses assaulted by the image – for some reason, the pictures have been removed on Facebook now. But if you’re interested, they’re at this news story;

    News 3 talked with Maj. Paul Rickert, the director of public affairs for the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. He said the guard just learned of the news via social media on Monday and are looking into the matter.

    Outraged Facebook users say the guard member is Teresa Harrison. Rickert could only confirm that there is a Teresa Harrison in the Honor Guard, but he could not confirm that Harrison posted the pictures.

    “We are currently looking into this matter,” Rickert said. “We just found out about this just this afternoon, so we’re just starting to look into it.” Rickert added that the Honor Guard takes the job of honoring fallen soldiers very seriously.

    According to the Wisconsin National Guard, the coffin in the picture was empty and the picture was taken during their training for their job as funeral detail.

    I say once again; don’t act a fool, and certainly, don’t take pictures of it and post it to the internet, FFS.

  • Keeping it classy (Updated)

    We posted a photo on our Facebook page yesterday of a young woman in an Air Force uniform tonguing the figure on a POW/MIA flag. It was pretty disgusting and I didn’t feel like putting the image on the blog. But, by the end of the day, the Air Force released a statement about the photo, according to Stars & Stripes. You can click over and see the picture, but I don’t believe it belongs here;

    “I want to make it clear that this is not a reflection of Airmen who wear this uniform; it is a case of poor judgment of one Airman … to say we are disappointed would be an understatement. We are gathering all the details and will take appropriate action at the appropriate level. Our Airmen fully understand the significance of the POW/MIA flag and the sacrifice of the men and women it honors,” Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody said in a statement.

    The woman in the picture has been identified as Staff Sgt. Cherish Byers, currently with the 92nd Security Forces Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington State. She has been promoted since the picture was taken and it went viral over the last 48 hours, so that may change.

    I guess folks still haven’t learned to not take pictures of their bad behavior despite evidence of reasons they shouldn’t in the past decade or so.

    ADDED: Obviously, she still doesn’t understand that what she did was wrong and why it was wrong;

    Cherish's statement

  • “Chocolate” City former mayor guilty of corruption

    You remember the former mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, right? The guy who left New Orleans while a hurricane was bearing down on the city, and after he was safe in a hotel in Baton Rouge, said people should leave the city, despite the fact that the feds had told him to evacuate the city days before. Well, he was taken into custody yesterday after he was convicted of 20 out of 21 charges of corruption and bribery. Yeah, I’m shocked, too. This is from CNN;

    Nagin, who left office in 2010, had little to say as he left the courthouse Wednesday afternoon, telling reporters only, “I maintain my innocence.” A small knot of supporters yelled, “Keep your head up” and “He’s just a patsy,” CNN affiliate WDSU reported.

    His lead attorney, Robert Jenkins, told reporters his client would appeal the verdict.

    “We did the best we could do,” Jenkins said.

    Prosecutors argued the 57-year-old Nagin was at the center of a kickback scheme in which he received checks, cash, wire transfers, personal services and free travel from businessmen seeking contracts and favorable treatment from the city. He faces up to 20 years in prison, but Fanning said a 14- to 17-year term was more likely.

    You should search the article at CNN for the former mayor’s political party, there’s no mention, and the coverage of the story of a convicted Democrat politician is quite a bit less than the George Washington Bridge “scandal” that has been following Chris Christie around the last few weeks, you know because there was a traffic jam once, just once in the entire history of the NYC metro area.
