This weekend’s picture comes from Thunderstix. He took it at Fort Wainwright, Alaska in 1975. I jumped on Wainwright’s airfield in January 1976. I remember that one of our medics dropped his 1911 over the drop zone and we kicked and crawled through the three feet of snow and -40 degree temperature for a few hours until, yes, we found it! It was after a nine-+-hour flight from Georgia where the temperature was about 60 degrees. Good way to get acclimated. We were there for Operation Jack Frost ’76. That was a tough month. Especially since I’d enlisted in Syracuse, NY in late ’74 and picked Georgia to get away from snow and cold.

Sorry, I was preoccupied with the contractor this afternoon. They’re going to begin work on the house on Monday….finally. TAH will be broadcasting live from a hotel room in Cumberland, MD next week.

The Temple of Valadier welcomes visitors to a cave in the Frasassi Gorge in Italy’s Marches region. The eponymous structure, designed by Italian architect Giuseppe Valadier in the early 1800s, was to be used as a retreat for Christians seeking forgiveness, earning it the nickname “refuge for sinners.”

If you haven’t heard about this week’s adventures in the court, you should go over to the Extreme SEAL Experience and watch Don Shipley’s AAR. The upshot is that the Shipleys have a 2-year restraining order against Dan Bernath. All of Dan’s hyperbole and bluster about “gangs” and “self-murder” didn’t wash in the Virginia courtroom. I’m surprised he even showed up.

“A Magical Night”

In Finland, a scattering of trees draped in heavy snow crosses the landscape, and the northern lights toss ribbons of color across the sky. This image was shared by Your Shot member Satu Javonen, who writes, “[It was] a magical night in Lapland.”

No one asked for it, but, I can hear folks’ heavy breathing.
