  • More phony soldier stuff

    This morning, as I began reading the Washington Times, my eyes were assaulted by this image;

    This is an Obama supporter going into an Obama rally in Fayetteville, NC over this caption;

    PHOTOGRAPHS BY J.M. EDDINS JR./THE WASHINGTON TIMES Charlie W. Williams of Raeford, N.C., a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and supporter of Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama, lines up early to get into a rally at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville on Oct. 19. “He’s going to get a lot of white votes,” he said of his candidate

    I get real suspicious of veterans who wear all of their medals when they’re not in uniform. Although we’re usually proud of what we’ve earned, we don’t usually wear all of our “bling” because it looks too much like bragging. So I started checking the medals and ribbons on Willie’s left breast (Lord knows I don’t want to get started on the right breast full of Unit Citations). So I blew up the picture;

    I also looked for images of Army Medals and discovered that I also needed to find some Navy Medals, too.

    The highest award is two awards of the Bronze Star, one with a ‘V’ for valor. Since it’s illegal to claim a medal for valor you’re not awarded, I absolutely believe that, without further evidence to the contrary. The rest are (in order viewers’ left to right and descending);

    Purple Heart/Army Commendation Medal

    Defense Meritorious Service Medal/Army Meritorious Service Medal

    Reserve Component Overseas Training/Republic of Korea Service Medal/Army Acheivement/Good Conduct

    Army of Occupation/Southwest Asia Service (Desert Storm)/Vietnam Service medal (3 stars)/National Defense

    NATO Medal/Korea Service/Armed Forces Service Medal/Army Service Ribbon

    Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal/Army Overseas Ribbon /Navy Meritorious Unit/Navy Combat Action

    United Nations Service/Republic of Viet Nam Campaign/Multinational Force and Observers Medal/Outstanding Volunteer Medal

    Aside from the fact that his ribbons are all out of order (something a career NCO would never do), he has the Southwest Asia medal for Desert Storm, the Armed Forces Service medal (which is for service after 1992). He’s also wearing a Navy Combat Action ribbon, which he only could’ve earned as a member of the Navy or Marines. He also has an Overseas Service Ribbon which can only be awarded to people on active duty after 1981. The Multinational Force and Observers Medal didn’t come into being until Jimmy Carter started sending troops to the Sinai. His National Defense Service Medal has an oak leaf cluster, subsequent awards of the NDSM are denoted by a bronze star device not an oak leaf.

    Willie is wearing medals and ribbons that didn’t come into existence until after he left the service since he says he was in Korea and Vietnam. He wears a star on his CIB so that means he had to have been in the Korean War before July 27, 1953. Since his Good Conduct Medal has five knots, he must’ve served between 15-18 years (each knot is three years of service) but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he did twenty, that means he retired before July 1973 and many of the medals he wears didn’t even exist at the time he retired and they’re awarded for service he couldn’t have.

    The Outstanding Volunteer Medal didn’t come into existence until 1992 – Willie could have won it but he would had 40 years of service, but even Colin Powell only did 35. Most E-7s get booted if they don’t get promoted to E-8 before they hit 22 years.

    He’s also sporting a 555th Parachute Infantry patch – the famous “Colored” Paratroopers. They disbanded in 1950 before the Korean War when the Army desegregated.

    A few weeks ago, I busted out a warrant officer on Military.com who listed every conflict since Vietnam as wars he’d participated in during his thirty year career. Questioning him and comparing his profile to his medals, we narrowed his wartime service down to just the Global War on Terror – and surprise – he was an Obama supporter touting the IAVA report card.

    Zero Ponsdorf and Wpage sent me this article about phony soldiers from the Chicago Tribune. They seem to be everywhere.

    If you’ve been in the military, just be proud of your service for what it was, you don’t need to make stuff up to be accepted. Cheezum crow.

    Welcome, Gateway Pundit and Blackfive readers.

    UPDATED: It turns out that “Willie” did indeed serve, according to the folks at P.O.W. Network. He served from 1949 until 1974 – he retired the same year I enlisted;

    NAME: WILLIAMS CHARLIE W
    SERVICE: A

    But I never doubted his service, in fact I was careful to give him the benefit of the doubt on each point and still found him to be a liar. He’s wearing a glider badge and the school ended the year before he joined. He’s wearing medals that weren’t even in existence nearly two decades after he retired. I stand by this post.

    We posted Willie’s actual records here.

  • NH’s Ray Buckley; Astroturfing phony soldier

    Last night I got an email from Debbie Lee, the mother of Marc Alan Lee, the first SEAL killed in the war against terror, forwarded by Bev Perlson of the Band of Mothers. Now, I met Debbie Lee last year at the ANSWER/IVAW protest in DC and a sweeter woman doesn’t exist. But anyway, she was camapigning in New Hampshire the other day and she confronted one of the candidates who had neglected to return the call of a Gold Star mother who was calling the Congressional office seeking assistance.

    While Debbie was confronting the congresswoman, a man interrupted her. From her email;

    I turned around and in disgust commented that Carol had just lied. A man in the crowd chanted, “Where’s the proof? Prove it. Prove it!” I pointed to Natalie who was speaking with media and said. “She’s the proof. That’s the Mother who Carol refused to call.”  I repeated to the man “Our son’s gave their tomorrows, their futures, so that she could have her today’s and she can’t even return a phone call? That’s disgraceful.

    He then told me he had served in Viet Nam and had friends who were POW-MIA. I compassionately touched his arm thanked him for his service and told him I was sorry for his loss. I told him that no matter where you stood on the politics of the War on Terror that a Congressman or Senator out of respect should return a phone call to a Gold Star family member. He stated his disgust for what we were doing in Iraq and said “We’ve all lost things.” THINGS????? My son is not a thing. He was a hero who stood out in the direct line of fire 3 times that day and gave his life for this man and he has the audacity to compare his sacrifice with a thing???? I was livid!!! How dare him.

    After being told by debate officials to take the discussion outside, Debbie turned around and started to walk away;

    I could not believe what had just taken place. I knew I was wasting my time and started to walk away when the man I had the confrontation with told me “Your just being used by the campaign.” Oh my goodness again, I can’t believe the antics of this idiot. He obviously doesn’t know that nobody uses me. I turn around and tell him “NOBODY uses me!” You don’t raise a son to be a Navy SEAL by having a character that is used by people. Unbelievable! As I approached the other Blues Star Moms and campaign staff that was there they asked what had just taken place. I retold the confrontation with the condescending, heartless man. They asked me to point him out. I was informed that his name was Ray Buckley and that he was the Chairman of the Democrat Party in NH. I was even more appalled that the man who had disgraced my son and insulted me was a high ranking official in the Democrat Party.

    Well, as soon as I read the email (at about 2300 Zulu), I just “googled” Buckley’s name and hit on a Wikipedia entry (probably written by Buckley himself) and learned;

    Buckley’s first involvement in Democratic Party politics was at age eight, when he campaigned for a gubernatorial candidate by making homemade signs.[2] As a twelve year old in 1972, he was volunteering for the Ed Muskie primary presidential campaign.

    I don’t know how he passed himself off as eighteen years old when he was eight or nine years old and went to Vietnam as he told Debbie he did. Or maybe he’s just an opportunistic liar. In fact, a perusal of his Wikipedia entry turns up not one mention of ANY military service;

    His parents divorced in 1972. By high school, his family had settled in Canterbury, where at the young age of 14, he served as the town’s Democratic Party Chair (due to his young age, his mother held the post officially). He planned to go to college upon graduating high school, but lacking the finances, he accepted a job offer to work for then State Democratic Chair Joanne Symons. He has been a professional politician ever since.

    Buckley is openly gay and has faced opposition to his sexuality since his first election to the State House in 1986. Before that election, he helped found the New Hampshire Citizens Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Rights. Of his own sexuality, Buckley has said “You cannot make me straight, so get over it.”

    Apparently this morning, there is an acknowledgement in New Hampshire online media and the Nassua Telegraph that the incident occurred. There’s also a YouTube video of Buckley saying that Hitler should have bombed The Hague, picking his nose and eating the result for the camera, saying “F**k America”.

    And now he’s trying to pass himself off as veteran. Is this the guy Democrats of New Hampshire want in their fore?

    Welcome Conservative Grapevine readers (and thanks to DPUD).

  • I Am Bill

    For those of you who missed it, Iowahawk got serious for a bit and wrote a great and uncharacteristically thoughtful piece he entitled “I Am Joe” about Joe the Plumber last week. Well, it seems he caught some flack for it for being partisan so he wrote about an opposite from across the aisle “I Am Bill” ;

    Every time I turn on the internet these days, it seems like another right wing blogger is digging up more baloney on Professor Bill Ayers. Apparently these people would rather talk about Bill Ayers’ passionate youthful rambunctiousness than the issues that really matter to us, like Sarah Palin’s shoe bill. Well, I’ve got a message for you, Mister Google cache McCarthy fascist: I’m mad as H-E-double sippy straws, and I’m not going to take it any more. No longer will not remain silent while you smear and slur this great America-hating American with his own quotes. Hear me now: when you mess with Bill Ayers, you’re messing with me.

    Read the rest…put down your drinks, first.

  • The American Dream is still alive

    According to the Washington Times‘ Jennifer Harper writes that, according to poll, despite the rhetoric from politicians and race pimps, more than three-fourths of Americans still believe in the American dream. John McCain squeezed by Barack Obama in the poll as being the candidate most likely to do a better job of helping Americans acheive their dreams, and more Republicans than Democrats believed in the American Dream;

    Who would do a “better job” of helping Americans achieve their dreams? More than half – 51 percent – cited Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin, just squeaking by Sens. Barack Obama and Joseph R. Biden Jr., who garnered 49 percent. Mr. Obama was cited more than Mr. McCain as “an American dream story,” 58 percent to 42 percent.

    There’s a partisan divide amid sentiment: 84 percent of Republicans compared with 71 percent of Democrats said they believed in the American dream.

    Cynicism surfaced: 11 percent of the respondents said the federal government helped Americans prosper; about two-thirds said the nation assisted immigrants or other countries achieve success over its own citizens.

    I don’t know what people think the American Dream is, but I know it’s not the race-baiting, class warfare drivel that Obama spews everyday. I guess there’s a portion of America that thinks the dream is sitting in front of a big screen TV and watching “The View” while someone else works to pay their bills.

    To me the American Dream is freedom from fear in an environment where I can work and earn and provide for my family without a government that looks over my shoulder and counts every penny I make. An Obama in the White House who wants to “spread the wealth around” isn’t what I dream about.

  • Obama/Biden and leadership

    Yesterday, COB6 wrote about Biden’s latest antics scaring folks by telling us that Obama is going to be “tested” by some nebulous power. Michelle Malkin wrote to Biden, “God bless ya for telling the truth about your running mate’s dangerous inexperience.”

    But, ya know, that’s fine if he wants to play seer and predict the future. In fact, given the events of recent history, it’s more than likely that scenario will play out. al Qeada attacked the World Trade Center a few weeks after Bill Clinton became president. The Chinese tested GW Bush a few weeks after he took office when they knocked down a reconaissance flight.

    But what they didn’t do after those events was plead for people to stand with them like Biden did yesterday;

    “And [Obama is] gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him.

    I know a little bit about leadership having led troops into combat. Never once did I have to tell my troops that I needed their support, that I needed them at all. I made decisions and they followed my instructions because they trusted my judgement. In other words, I led them.

    General Powell, who should know better, Sunday touted Obama’s “potential” to be a great leader. Everyone I ever saw get promoted to a leadership position because of their “potential” usually failed. When I was promoted to leadership positions, it wasn’t because of my potential, it was because of my demonstrated ability to lead. Because I was up to the task, I always succeeded where others had failed.

    As it’s been said, there’s no room for on-the-job training in the presidency. Both Biden and Obama are woefully underqualified for the job. In fact, the only reason they think they deserve those positions is because of their unusually large egos.

    John McCain, however, has demonstrated leadership among his fellow POWs, after the Vietnam War as a career military officer and in the Senate. So why would we be willing to accept a President and Vice President who need training wheels, when we have a trained and tested leader waiting in the wings?

    A good number of people have forgotten that the President is supposed to lead the nation, not coddle and pacify us with handouts. The world is a dangerous place, as Joe Biden reminds us, and we don’t need a pair of crybaby sissies begging us for our support while the dust is clearing from the next inevitable attack.

  • Elect Me and Americans Will Die

    Joe Biden says what McCain has been saying for months; there’s not a terrorist in the world that is afraid of Barack Obama.

    “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

    I would venture to suggest that the Obama camp is far less worried about “Joe the plumber” than they are “Joe the Dumb Ass”.

    Jonn added audio from Cuffy Meigs;

  • Lawyer sues McCain/Palin for hate speech

    JammieWearingFool found a Reuters report about a retired civil rights lawyer named Mary Kay Green who has decided to spend her retirement years tilting at windmills;

    Green, a 66-year-old grandmother and “semi-retired” civil rights attorney, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Kansas City this week accusing McCain, his running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and their campaign manager Rick Davis of “intentionally, recklessly and irresponsibly” portraying Obama “as un-American, a terrorist by association,   and ‘not like us,’ a non-white individual.”

    Notice the quotes around “not like us”. As I’ve mentioned before, that’s not a quote from either McCain or Palin. It’s a quote from Obama himself when he once, on a stump speech, warned Democrats that Republicans and Hillary Clinton would tell them that he’s not like us and he has a funny name. So i guess this rocket scientist turned civil rights lawyer turned Don Quixote figures she can sue the McCain campaign for things Obama says about himself.

    The lawsuit claims that Green “suffers terror of the heart, anxiety and grave fear for the life of Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Barack Obama” because of the McCain campaign’s efforts to invoke hatred against Obama.

    She ought to sue that cereal company to which she sent those 12 boxtops in exchange for her law degree.

  • “A plumber is the guy he’s fighting for”

    Cuffy Miegs put together a video of Obama mocking the profession of plumbing by making the statement “A plumber is the guy he’s fighting for”. Now, to hear Obama over the last 20 months, you’d have though he’d have a little more sympathy for a working man. As many times as I’ve heard him tell crowds how he’s going to “fight” for us little guys, I guess he meant to add “except for plumbers”. Here’s the video;

    Listen to the crowd laughing at Obama’s “plumber” line. Look at the disgusted look on Obama’s face after he delivers it – as if even saying the word plumber is distasteful. All to distract from Obama’s answer that apparently is causing him some discomfort in the polls (Gallup says it’s 49-47 among likely voters according to the Drudge headline)

    I’ve got some plumbing experience because the man my mother married was a plumber and I used to pick up extra money when I was home on leave by working with him when I was home on leave – much more money than I made in the Army. It’s dirty work, long hours and every job seems to be an emergency. But it’s absolutely essential. But that’s what makes this country great – folks putting up a shingle over their garage and living off of the sweat of their brow.

    Who’s Obama fighting for? ACORN. Racist preachers. Unrepetent domestic terrorist bombers. Unrepentent foreign terrorist bombers. Union thugs. Incompetent teachers. Americans don’t usually fit into any of those categories. So who is voting for Obama? What kind of person thinks they deserve a portion of the money that Joe the Plumber makes after a day of soldering pipes in a tiny crawl space under someone’s house?   No Americans I know.

    I wrote last night about the elitist swine over at Democratic Underground who are spreading the most scurrilous rumors about this guy because he didn’t drink the koolaid. Well, that’s what’ll happen for the next four years if we get an Obama/Biden presidency. Joe Biden claims plumbers just don’t make $250k…does Biden or Obama know what it costs to run a business? Do the folks at Democratic Underground know what iit takes to make payroll? It’s real apparent that they don’t care.

    Look at how Sarah Palin has been demonized, look at how John McCain went from being the left’s favorite Republican (who they all claimed they’d vote for back in 2000) to a horned devil. And now look at what they really think of the American working man.

    Michelle Malkin’s syndicated column this week is about Operation Destroy Joe the Plumber.
