  • Reparations we can believe in

    You’ve probably heard that John Conyers is back on the reparations mule. Ten years ago on January 6, 1999, Conyers tried to get his foot in the door with HR 40, here’s screen shot from thomas.loc.gov of that HR 40;

    Well, on January 6, 2009, Conyers dusted off that failed bill from 1999 and submitted it again with the same HR 40 designation;

    So that’s how the Democrats plan on healing the wounds of this country – by dividing us even further using the sins of people ages ago to suck even more money out our pockets. To make us MORE conscious of superficial differences in “Post-racial America”.

    In January, 2002, Thomas Sowell wrote this about the reparation scam;

    …the demand for reparations may seem like an exercise in futility. However, seen as a source of a lasting unmet grievance, it is a stroke of genius to keep blacks separated from other Americans and an aggrieved constituency to support black “leaders” in politics, organizations and movements.

    This demand also mobilizes a certain amount of support or sympathy among whites, especially those in the media and in academia, where such support or sympathy costs nothing, and allows those who give it to relieve their own sense of guilt, while risking other people’s money — and national cohesion. Some white politicians can also benefit at little or no cost to themselves by expressing sympathy with the reparations cause or even voting for meaningless apologies for what others did centuries ago.

    Not to mention that people like Jesse Jackson and the other race pimps stand between government and the Black community. He’s already been heard to say that individual reparations paid directly to the intended recipients would not benefit the Black community as much as if that same money was filtered through his grubby fingers first.

    Also, in 2002, Jesse Peterson wrote about Jesse Jackson and his ilk;

    The fading and desperate Jackson, who for over 30 years has built a lucrative career on the backs of black Americans, has paved the way for some of his “offspring” to push for reparations, a plot that if hatched will destroy the black community and divide our whole country. Among Jackson’s chief “descendants” are trial lawyer Johnnie Cochran, Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree, and Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., who, among others, have banded together on this unholy crusade.

    Masterfully, they have performed the two tasks on Jackson’s lifetime “To Do” list:

    1. Indict contemporary white America for something of which it is not guilty.
    2. Demand money, and lots of it.

    I can almost see a single tear roll down Jackson’s cheek.

    If Obama wants to be “everyone’s President” he should put anend to this farce and potentially the most divisive legislation since the “stimulus” bill.

  • Shiftless hippies plan March March

    ANSWER and their attendant allies are planning their annual (well, except last year) March on the Pentagon trying to recreate their hey-day of the sixties. The list of participant organization reads like the index of Discover the Networks;

    Vets for Peace, IVAW, World Can’t Wait, Cindy Sheehan, Ron Kovic, the rotting corpse of Ramsey Clark, Edward Jabba the Asner – a regular Who’s Who of irrelevant hippie trash with juvenile opinions. The complete list is here. I hope the temperature doesn’t drop a few degrees – that was their excuse for poor attendance in 2007 when they were out numbered by Gathering of Eagles.

    So, why, in the Age of Obama are they planning on marching? ANSWER’s website says;

    President Obama decided to keep the Pentagon just as it was under Bush. He even selected Bush appointee Robert Gates to keep his position as chief of the Pentagon. Gates announced that the new administration would double the number of troops sent to Afghanistan. That is certainly not the “change” most people thought was coming following the end of Bush’s tenure.

    These are wars for domination in the Middle East and Central Asia.

    Why would the US want to dominate these shit holes? Oil? Why would we want to go through the trouble of fighting and then administering foreign people when we have enough oil to sustain us for decades in our own country that we won’t touch? Seems it’d be easier to dominate some pussy-assed shiftless hippies in the environmental movement than some bomb throwing Stone Age tribes of the Middle East.

    No matter who is in charge in this country, there’s a vocal element who will never be happy. Even if we returned to the Stone Age in this country and live in caves rubbing sticks together for fire, they’ll still find something to complain about – well, if they survive without being eaten by the rest of us.

  • Still think they support the troops?

    The People’s Worker World recounts some testimony from some anti-war dorks speaking in support of the Maoist-founded organization that calls itself Military Families Speak Out. here’s screen shot of the page instead of a link;

    The testimony does nothing but impugn the character of people who join the US military;

    Eugene Cherry joined the army at the age of 19 in the hopes of getting money for college. Despite being a good student, he found his options in his impoverished south side neighborhood limited. “I thought the military would be my ticket out, but I found an organization based on racism, sexism and misogyny” he testified before the assembled audience. Later he spoke of “[a] culture of violence and racism” that the military promotes within its ranks. These pressures proved to be too much for Sherry. He deserted for 16 months after being refused mental health support by the army. “I found myself fighting and oppressing a group of people in the name of the war on terror” concluded his remarks to the gathering.

    The plight of women in the armed forces proved to be a recurring theme. Patricia McCann, a National Guardsman deployed in 2003, noted during her testimony that instances of sexual assault and sexual harassment within the armed forces have risen but court-martials for these crimes have declined. Another veteran (and current Chicago police officer), Lisa Zepeda, added that victims of assault have no outside authority they can report assaults to; a victim must go through her immediate superior within her unit.

    Here’s Cherry from Courage to Resist;

    Here’s McCann (although this profile says she’s an IVAW member, there’s no profile at IVAW in that name)

    I didn’t put up any profile about Zepeda because despite her toxic charges againt commanders, she’s still a cop who deserves a measure of anonymity.

    All of their stories throw fingers directly at the troops. All of them call all of our troops racist, sexist and oppressors. They couch their accusations in terms like “institutional” and “organizational” but those institutions and organizations are run by people – the troops.

    But really selfish? Is the story of Katy Zatsick who blames her divorce on the military when her son was injured in Iraq. And biggest gullible moron?

    Randi Scheurer had two children in the military. Soon after her son was deployed, he called imploring her to purchase a new flack jacket for him. The army had issued him a Vietnam-era jacket that was woefully inadequate for the threats he faced in Iraq. During his second deployment, he again implored his mother to privately purchase equipment that had been stolen from him and that the Army refused to replace. She finally purchased the needed equipment because the Army would not.

    Yeah, Vietnam-era flak vests were all out of the inventory by the mid-80s. TSO has countered that argument here countless times – it was one of the ignorant commercials that VoteVets ran a few years back and it’s been thoroughly discredited. He might have had a kevlar vest from the 80s design – but that was two decades after Vietnam. And the Army is not in the habit of denying the replacement of equipment the troops need. His commander might have made him pay for the equipment, but he wouldn’t have refused to give it to a troop if he needed it to do his job. I noticed she didn’t name the items she replaced.

    But that kind of stuff has become part of the narrative and generally accepted by the ignorant masses. So these clowns, liars and dolts at Military Families Speak Out are just reinforcing the faerie tales. Oh, and they’re in DC this weekend “educating” people about their version of the war.

    Ed. Note: I made the mistake of claiming that IAVA made the ads about the flak vests. Paul Reickhoff of IAVA was kind enough to point out the error and I’ve corrected it. When I mistakes I admit it.

  • Obama: National Catastrophe Looms

    Jon Ward at the Washington Times reports that the Obama weekly address is more doom and gloom crisis yammering;

    President Obama on Saturday morning warned the nation of a “national catastrophe” if Congress does not move quickly to pass and implement his economic rescue plan, even as he lauded the Senate’s movement toward passage of an $827 billion version of the bill.

    “Yesterday began with some devastating news with regard to our economic crisis,” Mr. Obama said, referring to the Labor Department report Friday showing the loss of nearly 600,000 jobs in January, which moved the national unemployment rate up to 7.6 percent.

    If yesterday’s news was so “devastating”, why did the markets do this;

    Apparently, the markets see something that Obama doesn’t see. The Democrat President, instead of leading depends on fear;

    “If we don’t move swiftly to put this plan in motion, our economic crisis could become a national catastrophe. Millions of Americans will lose their jobs, their homes, and their health care. Millions more will have to put their dreams on hold,” he said.

    Yes, $45 million dollars for fish barriers will solve this problem. A new waterpark in Florida is the longterm solution. Where is the bi-partisanship? Why aren’t the Democrats cutting the pork out of the bill to compromise with Republicans to get their votes?

    The Washington Post calls it “bipartisanship” when squishy Republicans vote with Democrats. That’s not really bipartisanship – when you see the Democrats move closer to the minority party, that’s bipartisanship. Convincing Susan Collins to vote with Democrats is like convincing a dog to eat a strip of bacon. It’s not a question of “if” she’ll eat it, it’s a question of whether you’ll still have your fingers when she’s done eating it.

    CNN reports that support for the stimulus has slipped since we began to learn what’s in it;

    Fifty-one percent of those questioned in a CBS News poll released Thursday evening approved of the stimulus package. That’s down 12 points from a poll taken January 11-15, the last time CBS asked the question. Thirty-nine percent opposed the plan, up 15 points from the previous poll, taken before President Barack Obama was inaugurated and before the House of Representatives passed an $819 billion stimulus package, with no Republican support, on January 28.

    Funny how that works – the longer the debate goes on, the more Americans find out about the stimulus and the less they like it.

    My son sent me this South Park clip (do I need to give a language warning?);

  • VFP wants a “sanctuary city” for deserters

    The latest deserter ejected from Canada was seized by border agents Wednesday, tossed in the local hoosegow and then ROR to return to Fort Stewart and turn himself in, according to the Bellingham Herald;

    Cliff Cornell fled the U.S. Army four years ago for British Columbia when his Georgia artillery unit was ordered to serve in the Iraq War.

    On Wednesday, Feb. 4, Cornell was deported from Canada, arrested in the U.S. and booked into the Whatcom County jail.

    I don’t know what the locals were thinking when they released an admitted deserter from the military hoping he’ll turn himself in to the Army on the other side of the country, but we’ll see if it pans out for them.

    But what got my attention was that the idiot for the local Veterans For Peace chapter wants to make Bellingham, WA a “sanctuary city” for deserters being ejected from Canada. Of course, his name would have to be Marx, wouldn’t it;

    Gene Marx, a local peace activist and member of the Bellingham Veterans for Peace, Chapter 111…and other local peace activists are asking officials to make Bellingham a “sanctuary city” so military deserters will not be arrested by locals and handed over to federal officials.

    Out of all of the things this so-called “veterans” organization could be doing for the troops who served honorably without deserting their posts and leaving their work for someone else to do, these buffoons want to make a hiding place for the lowest and least responsible humans in our country. That’d be a real feather in the cap of Bellingham – also famously the hometown of Evan Knappenberger – the crud who threatened to bomb the Gathering of Eagles and Michelle Malkin last year.

    The funny part is that this is how the VFP chapter announced Cornell’s release from jail;

    After an eight-hour delay on the US/Canadian border and a night of incarceration, Cornell was finally able to rejoin his unit at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

    They made it sound like law enforcement was preventing him from being with his comrades. here’s a screen shot because I’m not linking a VFP website here. Notice the “throng of supporters” in the picture. I guess five is a “throng” these days.

    So, let’s say Bellingham is a sanctuary city today, would the VFP then be keeping Cornell from “rejoining his unit”?

  • Another “Tradition” broken by the President

    “Patrick T” emailed us a link last night to a Yahoo/AP story about our dear President breaking yet another tradition.

    Departing from the South Lawn, Obama broke from tradition as he boarded Marine One, the presidential helicopter. He seemed to stun the Marine standing at attention by reaching out to shake his hand. The Marine obliged, shaking the president’s hand before returning to a steady salute.

    Since no one on the internet believes anything we write any more unless we have two sources they can click on from the comfort of their homes, here’s another account from the NY Daily News;

    The intimate moment came when Obama saluted and then gestured to shake the Marine’s hand (most Presidents just salute and then board the aircraft). The surprised Marine shook Obama’s hand, exchanged pleasantries and then snapped his arm back to full salute.

    There, we’ve fulfilled our obligation by spoon feeding the Leftist doubters their daily reason to hate us.

    Jon Ward in the Washington Times noted the difference between Bush and Obama;

    You can tell the difference between presidents — at least Bush and Obama — in the little things, and Obama’s gait on his way to the helo reflected the fact that this was a new experience for him. There was none of the familiarity that I so often saw watching Bush make this similar walk countless times.

    Because Bush had respect for the position he was elected to, while Obama still thinks he’s more important than the office. In a way, it’s probably true, because he’s the American Idol President and his “fans” are willing to forgive him every little mistake. Watch the comments to see what I mean.

    ADDED: The Wolf from Blackfive came by and dropped off the video from the Washington Times;

  • Change we can’t afford

    The President went on television and wrote in the Washington Post today to scare the bejeezus out of us over the shit sandwich he wants to cram down our collective throat. In the Post, he warned;

    And if nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.

    (more…)

  • I must be psychic

    TSO sends me a piece from Josh Rogin at the Congressional Quarterly about the future of defense spending. Rogin writes that;

    The current path of defense spending is unsustainable, due primarily to the rising cost of military entitlements and runaway acquisition costs, two defense budget experts told the House Budget Committee on Wednesday.
    […]
    “The first factor driving up the price of defense is, simply, the growing cost of uniformed military personnel,” [Stephen Daggett, defense budget specialist for the Congressional Research Service] said in his written testimony.
    […]
    “This may suggest that if defense budget shortfalls continue, we will, later if not now, have to consider reductions in the number of personnel”.

    I wrote last year before the election that the Democrats would see human resource issues in the Defense Department as a way to reduce the budget. the Democrats see the military and it’s supporters as a bloc of voters they’ll never impress, but apparently all of the welfare recipients, the lobbyists and all of those other people who suckle at the Federal teat, the ones who need to be cut off, are too politically important to consider cutting off.

    J. Michael Gilmore, assistant director of the Congressional Budget Office, testified that by increasing fees for military health care and restructuring pay raises, the Pentagon could save about $111 billion between fiscal 2010 and fiscal 2026.

    The House Budget Committee’s ranking Republican, Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, agreed that personnel costs were a problem. “DoD’s health care spending is increasing at an unsustainable rate,” he said.

    And yet the Democrats are convinced that they can give healthcare to all Americans – by increasing the personal costs of active duty military personnel’s health care? Yeah, this how we support the troops, by them taking the budget cuts in their rear, while we continue to expand government to pay for the Democrats’ constituency.
