  • Our mob is good; your mob is bad

    DrewM at Ace of Spades and our buddy DanNY at Gathering of Eagles NY posted this video from the Democratic National Committee decrying the “well-funded Right Wing mobs” who’ve been heckling Democrats.

    In my inbox this afternoon, I get this email from the President;

    There are those who profit from the status quo, or see this debate as a political game, and they will stop at nothing to block reform. They are filling the airwaves and the internet with outrageous falsehoods to scare people into opposing change. And some people, not surprisingly, are getting pretty nervous. So we’ve got to get out there, fight lies with truth, and set the record straight.

    That’s why Organizing for America is putting together thousands of events this month where you can reach out to neighbors, show your support, and make certain your members of Congress know that you’re counting on them to act.

    But these canvasses, town halls, and gatherings only make a difference if you turn up to knock on doors, share your views, and show your support.

    So I guess our mobs are bad, while theirs are good. I wonder what will happen when the mobs meet. I remember the union thugs in Philly a few years back beat a protester at a Clinton event. Since the Democrats rely heavily on unions for their “events” I can see the same thing happening again. Y’all watch out for those purple shirts.

    Oh, and that message was paid for with DNC funds, too.

  • The single-payer Trojan horse

    Drudge has linked to this video, that shows, in Obama’s own words, how he hopes his plan will eventually become a single payer (government-run) plan;

    The White House has taken exception to the President’s own words and put out this video, featuring Linda Douglass a former network correspondent, to tell you not to believe your lying eyes;How do we know what to believe? Obama has come down on every side of every issue. It’s not like Drudge was moving the President’s lips to make these words come from his mouth.

    Louisiana Congressman John Fleming has introduced a common sense bill in the House H.R. 615 (.pdf);

    Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Rep2
    resentatives that Members who vote in favor of the establishment of a public, Federal Government run health insurance option are urged to forgo their right to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and agree to enroll under that public option.

    That ought to kill the whole healthcare thing – everyone in Congress who votes for the public option health care plan would be required to sign up for it. Sign the petition at Fleming’s website (above) and tell your Representative to get on board.

  • Questions about a middleclass tax hike

    A month ago, when asked about whether the Obama Administration wouold raise taxes on middle class Americans, Robert Gibbs said “We’re going to let the process work it’s way through” meaning no one was going to mention tax increases, but they weren’t off the table.

    This weekend, White House officials made it clear that tax hikes on the middleclass were inevitable.

    Yesterday, when asked about tike increases on families making over $250k, Gibbs said “The President won’t raise takes on those making more than $250,000”;

    So, of course, there probably won’t be tax hikes in the marginal tax rates, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to pay taxes on other things – like the $.51/pack tax hike on cigarettes earlier in the year. They could could take away the tax advantages of 401ks and IRAs (my biggest fear). Make no mistake, we’re going to start paying more in taxes by the end of this year. And it’ll probably be George Bush’s fault.

  • Common sense replaced by federal law

    How many of you think that texting while driving your car is a good idea. Raise your hands. That’s what I thought…none of you. There are sufficient local laws that make it it illegal to talk to talk on your cell phone and text while you’re driving. Have any of you seen less incidents of people phoning and driving? Of course not. Mostly because we know that the government doesn’t really intend to enforce those laws. it’s just their way of trying to convince us that bureaucrats care about us.

    That’s why the President is initiating a dialogue about texting and driving according to Fox News;

  • Left doesn’t like it’s own tactics

    At Ace of Spades, you can see videos of Kathleen Sebelius and the Senate’s newest Democrat Arlen Specter getting shouted down at a Townhall meeting and Lloyd Doggett getting a dose of Tea Partiers at his own town hall meeting.

    Well, Think Progress thinks they’ve found a “talking points memo” from Freedom Works that outlines ways to disrupt these townhall meetings. And they’re not happy about it. One commenter at Think Progress complained;

  • Dingy Harry stokes nirther passions

    Dingy Harry Reid apparently sees a way to lower Republican approval ratings – he brought up the birther controversy on the Senate floor for no good reason today according to The Hill;

    “Let’s be clear, it’s a phony issue and does not deserve even a minute of our attention on the floor of the United States Senate,” Reid said. “It’s absurd, irresponsible, baseless, and the false claims of long ago have been refuted … The American people should know that rather than helping them get ahead, some of my colleagues would rather spew ludicrous conspiracy theories.”

    Reid accused Republican lobbyists of orchestrating an attempt to discredit Obama by sending out fake letters purporting to be from minority groups. He did not name the groups specifically but called the acts “sick, dishonest and really undemocratic.”

  • Huh? What hate?

    The Washington Times follows up their article yesterday about the Philly Black Panthers with a story about Republican lawmakers questioning the Obama Justice Department’s decision to not pursue charges against members of the New Black Panther Party who appear to be intimidating voters;

    Congressional Republicans on Thursday escalated their criticism of the Justice Department for dismissing a controversial voter-intimidation case, demanding that civil charges against the New Black Panther Party be restored. They also renewed their request to interview career attorneys who disagreed with the administration’s decision to dismiss the charges.

    Rep. Frank R. Wolf of Virginia, a senior Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, obtained an opinion Thursday from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) affirming that charges could legally be refiled without violating the double-jeopardy clause of the U.S. Constitution and said he thought Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. was obligated to refile the case.

  • Conyers: Why read the bill?

    You’ve probably seen this already, but I just saw it. It’s a real Zen moment for American voters;

    In reference to the massive healthcare bill, John Conyers, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says; “What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you’ve read the bill?”

    What good indeed. That’ll be my defense when I’m hauled into court for violating the provisions in that bill – because I don’t have two days or two lawyers to explain it to me either.

    I bought a new car the other day, and I drove the salesman nuts because I read everything I was signing and asked questions. But, see, I’m personally invested in an automobile contract, Conyers isn’t personally invested in the healthcare bill, or anything else he signs. The Party tells him to sign it and he signs it.

    The only benefit he hopes to gain from signing the bill is the political capital it’ll bring him in the form of patronage and donations. Why should he care it actually works?

    Anyone going to ask him about his wife’s legal problems? Just last week he called for an investigation into the Bush Administration. So, he’s got all of that going on, so we really can’t expect him to read a bill before he signs it.
