  • WaPo warns of tax hikes

    Lori Montgomery of the Washington Post demonstrates her keen eye for the obvious this morning as she warns that tax hikes are on their way;

    During last year’s campaign, President Obama vowed to enact a bold agenda without raising taxes for the middle class, a pledge budget experts viewed with skepticism. Since then, a severe recession, massive deficits and a national debt that is swelling toward a 50-year high have only made his promise harder to keep.

    The Obama administration has insisted that the pledge will stand. But the president’s top economic advisers have refused to rule out broad-based tax increases to close the yawning gap between federal revenue and government spending and are warning of tough choices ahead.

    Of course, it’s Bush’s fault, and although Republicans warned during the campaign that Obama couldn’t keep his myriad of patronage purchasing promises without raising taxes, Montgomery writes that Republicans are “already on the attack”. Um, most of Republicans have been on the attack since the campaign. Why do you think Republicans, with the exception of a spineless few, have generally opposed Obama’s budget-busting “stimulous” packages and oppose the healthcare proposal?

    Democrats say Obama is highly unlikely to break the pledge before next year’s congressional election and observe that it would be safer to wait until his second term if a tax increase becomes unavoidable.

    Of course, Montgomery includes that line to demonstrate the Democrats’ political adeptness at fooling voters just one more time. But, most voters know that tax hikes are coming, it doesn’t matter when. We know Democrats won’t make the politically tough decisions – like cut spending – we all know that they’re so good at raising taxes.

    But poor Obama is a victim of the Bush boom;

    Obama not only faces the fallout from the worst economic downturn in 30 years, but also inherited the debt piled up by his predecessor, Republican George W. Bush. Bush invaded Iraq and approved an expensive new prescription drug benefit for the elderly while pushing through one of the biggest tax cuts of the post-war era — worth an estimated $1.6 trillion in foregone revenue by the time the provisions expire next year.

    So the Washington Post, obviously, is wishing that Saddam Hussein was still in Iraq instead of under Iraq and the Washington Post wishes seniors would pay more for their drugs. And I guess the Washington Post wasn’t elated that they kept more of their money during the Bush boom.

  • Richardson investigation dead

    I’m reading Michelle Malkin‘s Culture of Corruption on my way to work every morning. It’s a good way to prepare for my occupation in downtown DC by getting my blood pressure and my brow furrowed. It’s also why I’m not surprised by things like the pay-for-play case against New Mexico’s governor Bill Richardson dropped at the highest levels of the Justice Department – with barely a whisper from the media;

    The decision not to pursue indictments was made by top Justice Department officials, according to a person familiar with the investigation, who asked not to be identified because federal officials had not disclosed results of the probe.

    “It’s over. There’s nothing. It was killed in Washington,” the person told The Associated Press.

    Can you imagine the hue and cry had the Bush Administration’s Justice Department done the same thing in similar circumstances?

  • I could never be a Liberal

    Claymore went DUmpster diving again – I guess he has more brain cells than he needs, but he sent us some links to some of the stupidest shit ever – all related to Ted Kennedy’s death. My favorite is this one;

    du-whining

    Yes, Barack Obama is now the last Kennedy brother. Barack Obama couldn’t even get a job at the Kennedy house, let alone qualify to be part of the family. But I guess that truth would shatter the Kennedy mystique, wouldn’t it?

    Oh, here, let’s make the Blue Dog Democrats feel guilty that Kennedy never got to see the nationalized heathcare (which is probably what killed him)

    du-whining1

    Let’s not allow a tragedy go unexploited;

    du-whining3

    OK, I’ll grant that he dominated American politics since 1968 when Robert died, and I’ve been hearing all of this “icon” talk and “Lion of the Senate” but, Holy Smoke, he was just a man. And that’s the only nice thing I can think of to say about him. I’ll also grant that DUers aren’t main stream Democrats, but even if they only represent a small percentage, it looks to me like they’re ready to strap on bombvests and go to the local market.

    The Armorer says; Bet’s on whether or not John Kerry’s first reaction to the news of Senator Kennedy’s passing was a fist pump and a “Yesssssssssssssssssss!  Senior Senator!”?

    Need I remind anyone of the comments they made about Robert Novak’s death just last week?

    Just announced while I was finishing this post; Kennedy will be buried at Arlington Cemetary. So I guess Arlington will be the Kennedy family plot now. Typical liberal crap – just because John Kennedy is buried there, the rest of them get to glom on to his heroics and push real heroes out of the National Cemetary. Edward Kennedy had two years of service in the Army according to Greyhawk, rising to the rank of PFC – after he got booted from Harvard for cheating.

  • Ted Kennedy dead at 77

    Mary Jo Kopechne is still dead eight days short of her 29th birthday.

    I was taught to not speak ill of the dead, so…..

    Why, nine hours after his death is CNN is still running the “BREAKING” headline?

  • Drunken sot’s town hall turns into shouting match

    Jim Moran, carpetbagging Congressional drunken sot, presided over a raucous townhall last night with Howard “The Scream” Dean. I wish I’d gone – it would have been a dream come true. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against drunken sots, having spent some time as one myself. But, Moran has made a career of it. Link from the Examiner;

    Inside, the scene was just as raucous. Moran — fuming that his introduction of Dean was met with jeers — finally lost his temper with the crowd.

    “There are hundreds of people in this gymnasium who can’t hear [Dean] because of a handful of people,” Moran said. “These folks are not from the 8th District, they don’t really belong here, and I’m going to ask them to leave.”

    I don’t know where he thought the loud crowd came from, but from the videos I’ve seen, most of the people identified themselves as his constituents. I guess it’s just easier to ignore the fact that he’s unpopular in his district.

    Here’s a video from our local news Fox 5;

    Sweet. Moran gets to see what his own behavior looks like to others. Is anyone going to ask where the health care supporters are getting those slick signs they hold up when their opponents, who are supposedly backed by the insurance lobby have hand-lettered signs?

  • DU and vets with guns

    jesse-kelly

    There’s a candidate for Congress out there named Jesse Kelly who is getting some minor press at World Net Daily and who gives the clowns at Democratic Underground the willies.

    Now, a U.S. Marine who helped lead the initial charge into Iraq to oust Saddam Hussein is taking that approach literally by brandishing his M-16 assault rifle in some eye-catching campaign fundraising ads.

    “I’m taking full credit for that,” says 28-year-old Jesse Kelly of Tucson, Ariz., a Republican seeking to boot Democrat Gabrielle Giffords from the U.S. House of Representatives.

    Regarding his “tough guy” theme, Kelly said, “People are sick of politicians from all parties. They’re lying to them. People want someone to fight for them in Washington and that’s the message I want to convey.”

    After being honorably discharged in 2004 and taken off inactive reserve last year, Kelly now works in the private sector as a project manager for a construction company that handles commercial water and sewer projects.

    Well, that’s more than the weinies at DU can stand. It takes them just a few posts to start calling names;

    Kerrytravelers
    3. He is no longer active duty nor still in the reserves. He just like to play dress-up in his old soldier uniforms and pretend to be a tough guy. He’s a total fool.

    I guess that the guy called Kerrytravellers forgets that his candidate in the 2004 election ran the homevideo of the gangly fella totin’ his rifle in full battle regalia around the jungles of Vietnam. And he forgets the awkward salute when Kerry “reported for duty”. But someone asks the question if Kerry didn’t use the vid in his campaign. The response;

    21. I don’t remember specifically either.

    I do remember his service record in Vietnam came up but I don’t recall if he brought it up as a part of his campaign or if he addressed it due to the swift boat challenges. I definately remember that he had several pictures and such of him duck hunting (shotguns, etc.) as a way to win the pro gun votes.

    Can you imagine living through the Kerry campaign in 2004…or any other year…and not being able to recall if his veteran status was ever mentioned? I thought his real name was John Kerry Who Served In Vietnam because I never saw his name without the Vietnam reference for more than a year.

    Someone posted the video and photographic proof. The ridiculous response;

    MTERAN9
    30. Interesting I’ve never seen those. Was that part of his campaign?

    He must’ve been in a cave in Tora Bora.

    cascadiance
    45. We should note that anyone can be a nut. Take McVeigh as an example…He was also a vet and was a nut. Now one should be careful not to criticize him in ways that could backfire with those of the public that do like nationalistic symbolism and view critiques done improperly as being “unAmerican”. But I think there’s a way to be careful and still critique guys like this to make sure everyone sees the holes in his logic, without just attacking his nationalistic symbolism.

    “He was also a vet and a nut…” Aren’t we all?

    The_Casual_Observer
    41. That guy is talking like McVeigh

    One rational member asks what the problem is with the campaign, the response;

    20. Here’s an answer for you; If you think showing up with an M-16 in conservative advertising isn’t threatening, you are ignorant. Do you support threatening politicians with big guns?

    Um, where’s the threat – unless you include the fact that he could beat a Democrat in an election.

    But this has to be the money shot;

    Gregorian
    44. Now that I’m seeing this kind of stuff, I have to say that after 8 incredible years of Bush, I’m rather proud of Democrats for how they’ve handled themselves. I mean, that administration was so retched, and so hypocritical, I cannot believe how well we behaved. Talk about mature and intelligent.

    And so now that the nightmare is over, these dingbats come out of the woodwork…for what? What on earth are they irate about? Health care? Responsible foreign policy? Concern for the environment? All I can do is just wonder what some humans are all about.

    Yeah, I remember how well they behaved, too.

    Thanks to Claymore for the link.

  • Poll numbers vs. National Security

    So, I just think it’s funny (not ha-ha funny) that when Obama’s approval ratings take a precipitous drop, his “non-political” Justice department decides to name a prosecutor and begin investigations into the previous administration’s war against terrorists. What’s even funnier is the LA Times providing cover for the Obama Administration;

    At a time when healthcare and other signature initiatives are in trouble on Capitol Hill and President Obama’s approval ratings are slipping, he now faces the prospect of a long, distracting probe into policies of the Bush administration — policies Obama has already denounced.

    And the furor is likely to be all the sharper because it pits the most liberal elements of Obama’s base against the most unyielding elements of the Republican right.

    Time magazine wants the terrorists to know that help is on the way;

    If the release of the declassified 2004 CIA inspector general’s report fills people with disgust at the use of power drills and mock executions in secret prisons, the Obama Administration wants them to know that Americans need no longer be embarrassed by how their government treats detainees.

    Oh, and buried somewhere in the news, you might have accidentally heard that the Obama Administration used the cover of their announcement to take over interrogations and the investigation into the previous administration to release a Afghan Guantanamo alum back to Afghanistan. That news from DrewM at Ace of Spades. Apparently the guy had been arrested after tossing grenades at Allied troops – hardly a crime, I suppose, worthy of a lifetime of imprisonment.

    In Obama’s defense, though, he promised to put 22,000 more troops into Afghanistan. I don’t remember him saying on which side those troops would be fighting.

    But anyway, it looks like the Obama Administration is once again going to trade our national security for a few points in popularity polls. And the treacherous media, once again, firmly plant their knees on the ground to cover for him.

  • No, we don’t think Obama is Hitler

    I don’t think anyone at This Ain’t Hell thinks Obama is Hitler. I don’t think any of us has ever made the absurd comparison that any Democrat is a Nazi – however we have suffered the “Bush is Hitler” chant from the intellectually-impaired over the years.

    Those who thought that Bush is Hitler should be calling Obama Hitler, too, though, since Obama hasn’t changed one thing Bush was doing – oh, except that Obama said he won’t let anyone be waterboarded. Bush didn’t say it, but no one has been waterboarded in the last five years or so – except protesters who demonstrated the process and surprisingly survived their ordeal.

    That PATRIOT Act which was the main reason the Left screamed about our civil rights being rolled back is still in force and hasn’t been altered one iota. Bush wasn’t Hitler for signing it (after nearly all of Congress approved it) nor is Obama Hitler for continuing it.

    A more apt comparison to Obama would be Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez. Obama has taken a page from Chavez’ book by using his Organizing For America, SEIU and ACORN zombies to go around the democratic process to deliver money directly to communities without input from elected officials. Chavez has entrenched himself in office by using the same method to buy patronage.

    The assault on Kenneth Gladney at a Missouri townhall meeting is also reminiscent of Chavez’ tactics. While opponents of Chavez peacefully protest in Venezuela, red shirted Chavez supporters, assault them. Some have been known to fire on crowds with weapons.

    Now, I’ll grant that assaults from the Obama thugs have been few and far between so far, but I suspect that it could escalate – especially since some from the Right are foolishly (albeit legally) bringing weapons to peaceful protests. The intellectually vacant left will see that as an excuse to escalate violence.

    I don’t see internment camps or reeducation camps in our future. I don’t think we’re going to be marched to the ovens or gas chambers. I do, however, see a large number of people being disenfranchised, I see endless taxes, I see an increasingly intrusive government and an incompetent management of the economy. Like Hugo Chavez’s government.

    ADDED: If you want to see who is REALLY calling Obama Hitler, you need to go to El Marko’s blog Looking at the Left. Of course, they’re also calling for Obama to be hung, and they’re taking up a collection for the colonization of Mars. Oh, and they’re not Republicans.
