  • Sessions: This is the Trump era

    According to Katie Pavlich at Town Hall, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a shift in US policy towards illegal immigrants on the southern border.

    “For those that continue to seek improper and illegal entry into this country, be forewarned: This is a new era. This is the Trump era. The lawlessness, the abdication of the duty to enforce our immigration laws and the catch and release practices of old are over,” Sessions said.

    A second attempt to enter the United States without proper paper will be a felony, as opposed to being a misdemeanor last week. Sessions also claims that prosecuting aliens who assault federal law enforcement officers will be a priority.

    From Politico;

    In a policy move that could have broad implications, the attorney general asked prosecutors to consider charges for identity fraud and document theft “to the extent practicable.” The department’s attorneys also should consider felony prosecutions in cases of fraudulent marriages to obtain legal immigration status, the memo said.

    […]

    Sessions appears ready to use all the tools at his disposal to target unauthorized border crossers, according to Leon Fresco, a former deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department under President Barack Obama. “We’ve never had this sort of zero tolerance for illegal immigration prosecutions,” Fresco said.

    The pendulum swings back.

  • The story of Armando Garcia-Ramirez

    The story of Armando Garcia-Ramirez

    The Washington Times tells the story of Armando Garcia-Ramirez whom immigration officials twice tried to expel from this country, but they bumped up against the Obama Justice Department. He now stands accused of the murder of his 15-year-old step-daughter, Jennifer Delgado, whom he had impregnated twice;

    He was arrested in 2008 for assault, but the local prosecutor opted to drop the case. He was charged with theft in 2009, but the case was dismissed. In 2011 immigration agents arrested him and tried to deport him, but he was granted bond and released.

    It’s unclear what happened to that case, but five years later, he was still in the U.S., where he was arrested for smuggling five other illegal immigrants, according to federal documents. Mr. Garcia was turned over to Homeland Security agents, who pushed for a trial, but the local U.S. attorney refused to prosecute, saying there wasn’t a good witness.

    Immigration agents again tried to deport Mr. Garcia, but he was again released on bond. A month and a half after he was released, he applied for legal status in the U.S. — despite his criminal record — and in November 2016 the Obama administration approved his work permit, giving him the right to work, get a driver’s license and apply for a Social Security number and taxpayer benefits.

    Mr. Garcia’s case touched all three immigration agencies within Homeland Security: Customs and Border Protection, where Border Patrol agents were involved in the smuggling case; U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which handled the failed deportation efforts; and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which is the agency he asked to approve his legal status.

    CBP and USCIS declined to comment, while ICE officials said it was immigration judges who granted him bond in both deportation cases. ICE failed to explain why the cases were never pursued further to actually deport Mr. Garcia from the country.

    According to the UK’s Daily Mail, he lured his estranged wife away from her apartment while he went in and killed the teenager and, of course, their unborn baby. He then tried to kill himself, but he was unsuccessful at that attempt. Now, he’s facing the charges of two counts of capital murder, for the teen and her unborn child.

  • Illegal immigration plunges in first quarter of 2017

    According to AFP, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly told the Senate Committee on Homeland Security that the flow of illegal immigrants in March fell 30% from February and 64% from a year ago.

    “We’ve seen an absolutely amazing drop in the number of migrants coming out of Central America,” he said.

    “In particular we have seen a dramatic reduction in the number of families, the number of children.”

    The decline comes after a surge in the last three months of 2016 that appeared to be a reaction to the looming crackdown Trump promised in his presidential campaign.

    Funny how that works. Just talking tough seems to have discouraged illegal immigration as opposed to the previous administration’s open arms policy.

  • Lawyer; Rockville rape was actually consensual sex

    Lawyer; Rockville rape was actually consensual sex

    Last night, David Moyse, the attorney for Henry Sanchez-Milian, an 18-year-old illegal immigrant charged with the rape of a 14-year-old high school freshman in a Rockville, Maryland high school, says that he plans to defend his client in court by claiming the sexual act was consensual, according to Fox News;

    [Tucker] Carlson said the assertion sounds “insane.” Moyse agreed that it seems “horrible” that it would happen in a school, but that doesn’t mean it was “forced” or illegal.

    Carlson said that is “in effect, an attack on this girl who told authorities that she was raped.”

    “Is your argument going to be that she invited sex with two men in a bathroom at a high school in the middle of the day and then lied that it was rape?” he asked.

    Moyse said he cannot discuss the details, but that he believes more evidence will come out beyond “the initial sensational headlines.”

    I wasn’t aware that a fourteen-year-old could legally give her consent to an 18-year-old.

    Meanwhile, Katie Pavlich reports that Montgomery County School Superintendent, Jack Smith is more concerned about parents’ outrage than the actual safety of his students;

    “While I know this tragic incident has become part of a national political debate, I want to remind community members that the lives of real students have been forever affected,” Smith sent in an email Thursday morning. “While many have chosen to engage civilly in the conversation, far too many have crossed the line with racist, xenophobic calls and emails. MCPS is working with law enforcement to identify those who are making threats toward our students and schools. This behavior will not be tolerated in our community.”

    Larry Hogan, Maryland’s governor is concerned that Smith won’t answer his office’s questions about their investigation;

    “My biggest concern is the Montgomery County School System and their lack of cooperation and the lack of information they’ve been providing. Not only have they refused to provide any information to us, but they’ve refused to provide information to the state Board of Education, which specifically requested more information.”

    I guess covering your political ass is more important than the safety of school children.

  • Montgomery Sanctuary County, Maryland

    Montgomery Sanctuary County, Maryland

    Montgomery County, Maryland borders on the District of Columbia. It was a “proud” sanctuary county for illegal immigrants. It was so successful at attracting illegal immigrants that they had to hike local taxes on their residents to 8.7% last year – that’s just county income taxes – to pay for their overcrowded school system.

    I said they were proud until this last week when Henry Sanchez, 18, of Guatemala and Jose Montano, 17, of El Salvador who were both slotted as high school freshmen raped a 14-year-old girl vaginally, orally and anally during school hours (at about 9AM) in the school. According to Superstation 95, 18-year-old Henry Sanchez was facing a deportation order “which was not carried out while immigration activists tried to block the deportation”.

    According to WTOP, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett has had a change of heart on this sanctuary business at least in this case;

    Leggett says news of the violent rape in a school restroom on Thursday made him feel “sick and disgusted,” and, in a written statement, Leggett said that following any criminal conviction and sentencing on the charges, “the county — consistent with our long-standing policy — will cooperate fully with ICE to see that the two are deported to their countries of origin.”

    Too little too late for that 14-year-old child.

    The Department of Homeland Security says that Sanchez was intercepted by a border patrol agent in Rio Valley Grande, Texas, last August. According to Matthew Bourke, of the Office of Public Affairs for DHS, Sanchez was given a notice to appear before an immigration judge. No such appearance took place.

    Yet, there was this wanted 18-year-old criminal in a freshman class of middle American children.

  • EU court backs Belgium’s rejection of visa to Syrians

    The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has backed a Belgian decision to refuse a humanitarian visa to a Syrian family.  The family of five, from Aleppo, had applied for a 90-day visa at the Belgian embassy in Lebanon, so they could later seek asylum in Belgium.

    The Court rejected the Advocate General’s advice and decided that EU law did not require member states to allow visas to people whose ultimate aim is asylum.

    The ruling is a significant victory for Belgian migration minister Theo Francken who has argued that EU member states alone should have the power to issue visas.  Common sense had prevailed, he said.  “NGOs wanted to open EU borders in embassies abroad,” but the Court had been very clear that humanitarian visas were a national competency.

    Now the complaint from a researcher at the Netherlands’ Center for Migration Law at Radboud University is that it will increase trafficking in undocumented migrants.

    Excuse me – increase it?  Isn’t it rather hefty right now?

    I’m sure there will be a lot of loud, unhappy noises from people who don’t understand the idea behind having secure borders to keep the Very Bad Guys out of your living room. But a huge number of undocumented ISers were recruited from the Eurozone. Some are being recruited here. Some of them may now be in Mosul still holding hostage the citizens who lived there and can’t run away – something on the order of 750,000 people. Frankly, considering the most recent events both here in the US and in Europe, and the Swedish media’s not reporting violent disruptions going on in that country, I think that any sovereign nation has the right to refuse.

    This is not going to come to a tidy end, either.

  • Our neighbors to the north and south and elsewhere….

    Last night, a report of an attack in the evening on a mosque in Quebec City, Quebec caught my eye.

    At the time, the report said 5 dead, several injured. That was updated this morning to 6 dead and 8 injured.  The Prime Minister did use the term ‘terrorist attack’ in his response to the news.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38793071

    Since we’ve been discussing immigration, our unfortunately porous borders, and the fact that both our neighbors to the north (Canada) and south (Mexico) have strict immigration policies, I think it’s fair to ask why we should be expected to simply throw the doors wide open and endure a swarm unchecked.  Ellis Island, which was the clearing place for incoming emigrants from other countries, was closed some time ago. It was the Checkpoint Charlie of its time.  Things have changed substantially in the last 100 years, making a single way station less efficient.

    Frankly, the Central American country of Belize is even more strict about immigration than either Mexico or Canada, and New Zealand is so tight-assed about it that you can visit, but if you really do want to emigrate permanently to Kiwiland, you have to meet their financial requirements ahead of everything else or they will tell you ‘N-O, NO’ and show you the door.

    No one is addressing this at all. The Eurozone countries are finding that following the imbecilic open doors policy promulgated by Angela Merkel has become a financial and political disaster. She herself admitted last fall that it was a mistake on her part. This nonsensical notion, that everyone – every single person –  running from a war zone is only a refugee looking for a place to squat has sent the political pendulum swinging back in the other direction. The Brexit vote was the Brits saying, bluntly ‘we want OUR country back’.  The same rumblings have been popping up everywhere in the Eurozone.

    Like nearly everyone else here, I’m a descendant of many generations of people who emigrated from Europe and England and Scotland in search of a better life, and who found it through hard work and contributing something tangible. None of those people were leeches looking for freebies.

    Ergo, I will ask again and a again until I get a sensible answer: if other countries, including Mexico and Canada, have such tight-assed requirements for immigrants and no one is complaining about it, why is it NOT okay for the USA and its citizens to expect the same thing?

    I’d like to repeat what has been said in several other places: Pres. Obama did the same thing in 2011. He also capped the incoming volume at 50,000 before he dropped the limits.

    http://www.nationalreview.com/article/444370/donald-trump-refugee-executive-order-no-muslim-ban-separating-fact-hysteria

    Obama’s order stood for six (6) months. Trump’s EO has a duration of 120 days, a considerably lower number.

    The nonsense that is rising out of this effort by the media to poison the apple can only be smacked down when they learn to stop lying. They feed into the hysterics of the left because it gets ‘clickbait’ and raised viewer numbers for them.  They’re worse than 12-year-olds who sneaked out to go to a party they weren’t supposed to go to. There is no end to their obnoxious behavior and won’t be until they grow up.  The only way they will grow up is when the surging masses they weep for run over them roughshod, as has been happening in the Eurozone.  I’m just waiting for that shoe to drop, if you must know.  Their cocoon of protection needs to be stripped away for good.

    So I will ask again, and I expect some answers: why must WE be expected to have an open door for anyone who sees this country as a free ride, when other countries such as those I’ve mentioned are far more strict?

    Tomas Martinez-Maldonado; rapist deported 19 times

    Tomas Martinez-Maldonado

    The Associated Press reports that Tomas Martinez-Maldonado, an immigrant who raped a 13-year-old girl repeatedly on a bus ride through Kansas, had been deported ten times and voluntarily left the country nine other times.

    Records obtained by AP show Martinez-Maldonado had eight voluntary removals before his first deportation in 2010, which was followed by another voluntary removal that same year. He was deported five more times between 2011 and 2013.

    In 2013, Martinez-Maldonado was charged with entering without legal permission, a misdemeanor, and subsequently deported in early 2014 after serving his sentence. He was deported again a few months later, as well as twice in 2015 — including the last one in October 2015 after he had served his second sentence, the records show.

    So, I have complete confidence that the government will be able to weed out potential terrorists from the refugees seeking asylum here. Or not.
