  • Koran burning off and on

    I don’t know, you tell me. Last night Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center called off his planned Koran-burning event sayng that he’d reached an agreement with the president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida that the location of a mosque planned near ground zero in New York would be changed. But now that imam says that he doesn’t know what Jones is talking about;

    But Imam Muhammad Musri said he was clear on Thursday when he told Jones that he could only set up a meeting with planners of the New York City mosque, whose leader said he had spoken to neither the pastor nor Musri. Jones responded by opening the door, if only a crack, that he would go forward with his plan on Saturday.

    “We are just really shocked,” Jones said of Musri. “He clearly, clearly lied to us.”

    So I guess we’ll know by tomorrow what Jones plans but i suspect that Jones was relieved he found an excuse to not burn the Koran in public because of the massive opposition across the political spectrum. He just might not do anything since he’s found a way out.

    In related news, the Westboro Church is pissed off because they burned a Koran two years ago and no onepaid any attention;

    It’s that in 2008 she and her father’s Topeka flock set fire to a Quran in plain view on a Washington, D.C., street and nobody seemed to care.

    “We did it a long time before this guy,” Phelps-Roper said by telephone from a street corner in downtown Chicago, scene of the latest Westboro picket — against Jews this time, not gays.

    See, that’s the danger of perpetual outrage – after a while, no one pays attention.

  • Petraeus warns that Koran burning is bad for the troops

    General Petreaus warned yesterday that the planned Koran-burning in Florida by the Dove World Outreach Center endangers the troops as well as all Americans. I completely agree with his reasoning;

    “Images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan — and around the world — to inflame public opinion and incite violence,” Petraeus said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

    Obviously, if the people we were defending and the enemy we are fighting were a bit more rational about respecting others’ opinions, this wouldn’t be a problem. That’s not the case, though.

    In any case, the numbnuts of the Dove World Outreach Center are just as irrational in their own way. At Blackfive, Jimbo writes that Terry Jones, the leader of this group has written a book “Islam is of the Devil“, a sentiment that I’m sure many agree with.

    But, ya know a group that calls themselves “an outreach center” (it’s right there in the name) should know better than to reach out with a clenched fist to get it’s message across.

    They’ve listed 10 Reasons to Burn a Koran and every reason mentions God or Christ. The God I know wouldn’t agree with any of their reasons as legitimate for the action they intend this weekend.

    The Dove Center also claims it’s reason for burning the Koran is;

    We love, as God loves, all the people in the world and we want them to come to a knowledge of the truth. To warn of danger and harm is a loving act. God is love and truth. If you know the truth it can set you free. The world is in bondage to the massive grip of the lies of Islam

    Yeah, we all know that. All of us. Burning a Koran isn’t going to bring anyone to the Christian church, or any other church for that matter. The people you’re planning to free from Islam are going to be inflamed by your narrow-minded and short-sighted actions.

    Actually, it sounds as childish as Bobby Whittenberg and Matthis burning a flag to be pirate-rebels. It pisses me off greatly that Islam is intolerant of human rights and dissenting opinions, but I’d rather kill them in large numbers for their actions on the battlefield than just piss them off.

    In fact, Terry Jones can probably call it off right now and mention that he’s made his point since Muslims are already getting violent about it. But, he’s got the money rolling in from people across the country, He’s not going to turn that spigot off;

    Responding to Petraeus’ comments, Dove World Outreach Center’s senior pastor Terry Jones acknowledged Petraeus’ concerns as legitimate.

    “Still, we feel that it is time for America to quit apologizing for our actions and bowing to kings,” Jones said in a statement released by his church. “We must send a clear message to the radical element of Islam. We will no longer be controlled and dominated by their fears and threats. It is time for America to return to being America.”

    Since Jones has heard from the top commander on the ground in Afghanistan and he’s been told that he’s endangering the troops with his completely selfish demonstration of the capacity of his brain, I guess we can call his actions anti-military and anti-US since he’s doing the exact same thing that IVAW and Code Pink have been doing for years. Hiding behind the Bible doesn’t change the effect it will have on the battlefield.

    You don’t cure hatred with more hatred. Well, except in Bizarro World.

  • Pulitzer Prize winner Robinson: Voters are spoiled brats

    This is the kind of drivel that won Eugene Robinson the Pulitzer Prize while he copied and pasted Obama campaign press releases in 2008;

    In the punditry business, it’s considered bad form to question the essential wisdom of the American people. But at this point, it’s impossible to ignore the obvious: The American people are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.

    Robinson tell us it’s not his partisan leanings that influenced his insults – it’s his amazing command of the cut and paste journalism which he has mastered along with his ability to see the truth from his ivory tower.

    Yup, insults have always been the impetus to bring voters back to the plantation. It’s a brilliant strategy and I hope Robinson and his fellow uber-partisan friends at the Washington Post keep it up.

    Suddenly, Robinson finds himself making excuses for the length of time Obama needs to correct the “structural problems” that haunt this administration instead of his usual practice of highlighting the winning strategies which were all too far over our heads for us to notice. Yeah, Gene, how much smarter are you than we?

    The richest Americans need to pay higher taxes — not because they’re bad people who deserve to be punished but because they earn a much bigger share of the nation’s income and hold a bigger share of its overall wealth. If they don’t pay more, there won’t be enough revenue to maintain, much less improve, the kind of infrastructure that fosters economic growth

    And where will the jobs for all of those voters come from, Gene? Are we going to raise the benefits for the unemployed so that they can hire maids and gardeners? Is that your plan for “the foundation of the 21st century economy”?

    …starting with weaning the nation off of its dependence on fossil fuels, which means there will have to be an increase in the price of oil.

    What do we use in the interim, Doctor Robinson? Shouldn’t there be an affordable alternate before we jack the price of oil out of the reach of the average, working American? Isn’t raising the price of oil kind of premature when so many average Americans depend on it to get to work? Obviously, the urbane Eugene Robinson has never worked out in the real America that doesn’t have subways and buses to offset their commute – that’s the whole problem with the Bethesda crowd. The Beltway ignorance doesn’t just affect Congress.

    It’s bad enough that the Democratic Party’s “favorable” rating has fallen to an abysmal 33 percent, according to a recent NBC-Wall Street Journal poll. It’s worse that the Republican Party’s favorability has plunged to just 24 percent. But incredibly, according to Gallup, registered voters say they intend to vote for Republicans over Democrats by an astounding 10-point margin.

    Because the thin veneer of the 2008 campaign has been washed away by the failures of this administration. Maybe people don’t like the Republicans, but at least their policies have a positive effect on their lives. This crisis began while the Democrats and their childish antics reigned in the People’s House.

    My bank was one of the first to fail in 2007 – nearly a year after the Democrats occupied the Congress – so I remember who stood by and watched the whole thing collapse so they could use it as a weapon in the 2008 election instead of shoring it all up in the beginning. It’s only fitting that their own dog turned around and bite them. And, oh, Eugene…bite me.

  • Yeah, I talked with the Discovery Channel gunman

    I was in DC stuck in traffic near Walter Reed which is several blocks from the Discovery Channel Building. i watched the drama unfold on CNN in the Walter Reed lobby. I got home last night to find my cable and TV out. So it wasn’t until this morning that I found this picture of James J. Lee.

    I was shocked when I saw that familiar face staring back at me because I’ve had a few encounters with him when I was filming protests last year.

    I videoed him at the “Shoe Bush” rally the day before the inauguration last year;

    You can read his comments on the video with his screen name “DCProtest”.
    I had a long conversation while waiting for the Code Pink/IVAW protest last October;

    White House Protest 10-5-2009 (35)

    Here’s what his sign said;

    White House Protest 10-5-2009 (36)

    He was steeped in all kinds of Leftist blather. But he spewed out a lot of Ron Paul crap mixed with some Republican talking points – whatever fit his protest sign. He was a raving lunatic and I wouldn’t blame any political party for James J. Lee like some people have. He was just an average DC nut job.

    You can see why the Montgomery County police shot him – his mood swings are kind of frightening. I remember during our conversation on the park bench last Fall, he’d be smiling and talking calmly one second and then become a raving lunatic the next. You can see that in the video.

    ADDED: Thanks to John Hawkins, Ace of Spades, and The Jawa Report for sending their readers over.

  • More Info On James Jay Lee

    So in the comments section for my last post about the Discovery Channel hostage-taker James Jay Lee Debra mentioned that Ward Reilly had posted  a picture of Lee from an anti-war rally a few years ago. I went on Reilly’s facebook page and found this:

    Classy.

    Here is the FB post (if you can see it) where Reilly discusses his encounter with Lee. Of course Reilly, with his super-hippie powers, was able to deduce that he was a nutbag back then. Yeah right, I bet Reilly gave him a hi-five for that poster.

    Of course Ward’s shitbag friends had to chime in…

  • What Is Sean Penn Up To in Haiti?

    Far-left actor Sean Penn has been attacking rapper Wyclef Jean in recent weeks over the latter’s desire to run for President in Haiti (he has been disqualified however). Sean Penn made this self-righteous blog post on HuffPo attacking Jean, in which Penn spends just as much time pumping himself up as he does explaining why Jean isn’t qualified. Penn also made these comments in an interview with Larry King:

    “This is somebody who’s going to receive an enormous amount of support from the United States, and I have to say I’m very suspicious of it,” Penn, 49, who has been running a 55,000-person tent camp through his J/P Haitian Relief Organization,

    Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think a guy who has spent most of his life as a rapper and who ran a corrupt charity is qualified to run a country, much less a Burger King. But at the same time I have to wonder why Penn is really attacking Jean. Its no secret that Sean Penn has a hard-on for Hugo Chavez and considers him a friend.  Chavez has been trying to expand his influence throughout South America and the Caribbean by supporting politicians that would be sympathetic to his socialist ideology.  I would not consider it a stretch that Penn would be working to support a candidate that would be more friendly towards Venezuela and the Chavez regime. Discrediting Jean would no doubt strengthen any candidate that Penn and Chavez find acceptable.

    Tell me… am I full of shit and Sean Penn really cares about the people of Haiti or is Sean Penn helping to install a Chavez-friendly regime in Haiti?

  • Westboro protesters gassed

    CNN reports that a 62-year-old man fired a cannister of pepper spray at a crowd of the Westboro fags who happened to be protesting at a funeral for a Marine at the time in front of a church in Omaha;

    George Vogel, 62, who lives just north of Omaha, was booked for 16 counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony assault on a police officer for the pepper-spray exposure, police said. Vogel also faces one count of child neglect because his child was in the truck, Pecha told CNN.

    Shirley Phelps-Roper, a member of Westboro Baptist Church, said Omaha police did not adequately control roughly 30 counter-protesters, who she said jostled with church members. She also challenged Knudsen’s and Pecha’s account, saying a few Patriot Guard members were among the counter-protesters.

    The group was about 1,000 feet from the church when the driver came by. “Of course it was directed at us,” Phelps-Roper, who is Fred Phelps’ daughter, said of the pepper spray.

    No, I don’t condone an assault on the Westboro members. Do I wish they’d all simultaneously fall dead of a disease? Yes. But they’re not worth a jail term – certainly not worth endangering a child.

    And there aren’t words to express my gratitude to the Patriot Guard Riders for what they do for bereaved families.

  • Code Pink and Al Sharpton team up

    Because they’re so fond of my work, Code Pink has sent me an email to advertise their intentions this weekend;

    Aug. 28 marks the 47th anniversary of the historic March on Washington and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Fox TV’s conservative political commentator Glenn Beck will be holding a rally at the Lincoln Memorial. Join us at Dunbar High School (1301 New Jersey Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC) as we counter Glenn Beck’s rally by joining Reclaim the Dream, organized by Rev. Al Sharpton and other civil rights leaders. Look for the pink umbrellas to find us!

    Well, if they consider Al Sharpton a “civil rights leader”, I’m curious who they consider in that “other” group. I guess the New Black Panther Party plans on being there, too, so I guess the only people from the Left who are going are the anti-MLK bunch.

    I know some of you are going, so I hope you’ll email us some pictures we can use.
