  • Wednesday feel good story

    Dan sends us our first feel good story this morning from Houston where two folks thought they needed a mother’s purse more than they needed to live a good life;

    “This lady opens her car door, grabs the woman’s purse and they reverse. While they’re trying to reverse, the lady is holding on to her purse still, chasing them all the way to the middle.”

    That’s when a perfect stranger intervened. He happened to be in his car in the parking lot when it happened.

    “And that good Samaritan came out, drew his weapon and scared them. And that’s when he pulled them out of the car.”

    Someone snapped a picture of the man holding the two suspects at bay. A few minutes later, police arrived and took the male and female suspects into custody.

    From Chief Tango we get another story from Detroit where the criminals haven’t learned yet that Detroiters are fed up;

    Officer Nicole Kirkwood said a 24-year-old man climbed into the bedroom window of a home in the 12200 block of Heyden shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. A 50-year-old woman, believed to be the lone occupant of the home, fired one shot, hitting the suspected intruder in the arm, Kirkwood said.

    The man fled but was arrested shortly after by responding police. He was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in temporary serious condition.

    Officers also arrested a girl, 16 or 17 years old, who was waiting in the car outside of the location, Kirkwood said. It is unclear if she was the getaway driver.

    They’re also fed up in Tuscaloosa;

    Sgt. Dale Phillips, the unit’s commander, said the investigators found a 24-year-old man seriously injured by a gunshot wound to his stomach at a residence in the 2200 block of 48th Street East. The man was rushed to the emergency room at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, and the homicide unit stayed behind to question the 36-year-old man who shot him.

    Phillips said the shooter told investigators that the younger man had forced his way into the residence and shooting him was an act of self-defense. Phillips said at this time, that narrative appears to be true and the 36-year-old man was not charged for the shooting.

  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    CavRick sends us a feel good story to enjoy with our coffee this morning, this time it’s from North Carolina where 70-year-old David Seaton encountered 26-year-old Amy Marie Mabes while she was cleaning out his garage;

    Seaton then confronted the suspect, who hit Seaton in the head with a glass and metal lantern, said investigators.

    Despite bleeding from his head, Seaton caught Mabes and held her down until authorities arrived, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

    Deputies immediately arrested Mabes and found stolen jewelry and coins on her, said investigators. The suspect’s home is about a mile from the victim’s residence, and deputies believe she traveled on foot.

    Mabes has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, and possession of burglary tools

    Amy Marie is currently rotting in a cell with a $40,000 bond over her head. No guns, but the same desired effect.

    Monday morning feel good story

    Your feel good story to kick off your work week comes from Ohio.

    The person who identified himself as the gunman, Kenneth Owens, said that an unidentified male tried to rob him just before the shooting. The suspect tried to make him drive to the bank to withdraw money from an ATM and took Owens’ wallet, according to a press release. While driving to the bank and being held at gunpoint, Owens took out his own handgun and shot the suspect.

    Chief Tango sends a couple of more, the first is from Alabama where a home invasion went sideways for the perps;

    Witnesses say they saw several people run from the home when they heard several shots ring out. It happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Houston Street near McGill and Conti in the midtown section of Mobile.

    Police did not confirm at this time, if there are multiple suspects in the alleged home invasion. Investigators say the homeowner is cooperating with authorities.

    Similar circumstances in Dallas;

    The 28-year-old man attempted to rob apartment residents in the 3500 block of E. Overton Road, police spokesman Juan Fernandez said. He was holding them at gunpoint when a man pulled a gun from under the couch and fired it at him.

    The 28-year-old man, whose name has not been released, died from gunshot wounds.

    All across the country the Bradys and the Bloombergs are ignoring these stories of folks defending their homes and their lives against armed criminals. Others would have us defending ourselves with muzzle-loaders. Or pointy sticks.

    Authorities say the homeowner’s wife and two small children were at the home at the time of the fatal shooting.

  • Saturday morning feel good story

    Saturday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story this morning from Kentucky where Shaun Lige and his girlfriend were preparing to their jobs when they let their dog out and a masked man forced his way in their home firing his BB gun;

    “I still got the BB in my neck,” said Lige, pointing to the indention on this throat.

    They say he kept asking for all their money. And Lige believes the man meant to tie them up.

    “Came with zip ties…had three zip ties tied into one,” Lige said.

    Lige says he and girlfriend decided to fight back.

    “We start to tustle..this is a big guy…he gets outside…and that’s when we go for our gun,” said Lige.

    The man ran out. Lige gave chase.

    “He tried to get away..I pumped off a few rounds at him,” Lige said.

    They say he wasn’t hit…but they were able to tackle him.

    “We beat him down with a stick. I didn’t want to kill the guy,” he said.

    A neighbor ran out to help.

    “Like I say, this is a big guy, it’s raining, I’m out in my boxers. And I was telling him…’you making me miss work for this!’” he said.

    So the police came and arrested 34-year-old Anthony Alcorn, someone that Shaun said he used to know.

  • Thursday feel good story

    Thursday feel good story

    Police line

    Our first feel good story came from near Cincinnati today, were Phil and Mary Smith were drinking tea late at night last week when Mark Montgomery appeared at their window and started yelling and banging on the window;

    “It gave us the impression he was trying to get in and get away from something,” she said.

    Then Montgomery smashed out the front window, police said, likely with a bench on the front porch.

    Smith’s daughter, Martha, ran upstairs to wake her father, a scientist at Procter & Gamble. He has a .375 Magnum revolver.

    “He was already getting his gun out of the closet,” Martha Smith, 26, said. “I went into my room, locked the door and called 911 from under my desk.”

    She told a dispatcher: “Somebody is breaking into my house. I don’t know what is going on,” according to a recording of the call.

    “While I was on the phone with the dispatcher, I heard one gunshot. It was terrifying,” she said. “The person pounding on the window had been shouting the whole time, “Help me!” but then bolted for the road.”

    Mary Smith said her husband came downstairs and, not knowing if the man was armed with a weapon, yelled for the intruder to stop. At that point, the man was halfway through the window, so Phil Smith squeezed off one round.

    That set a fire under Mr. Montgomery’s ass and sent him scurrying away.

    Chief Tango sends us a story from Oklahoma;

    Investigators say just before midnight, the homeowner was awakened by a knock at his door.

    Investigators say the victim opened his door, when a man hit him with a large metal pipe. The homeowner shot the man several times with a small caliber handgun. The shooting victim then went to his own house located several blocks away and called the sheriff’s office about being shot. He was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

    The next story comes from a story we did a few days ago about a shooting in Detroit. It seems that Detroiters are getting sick of all the crime and they have the support of their police chief;

    According to information provided to MLive Detroit by the Detroit Police Department last week, there had been 10 justifiable shootings that resulted in the deaths of eight suspected criminals.

    “Detroiters are fed up; they’re fed up with violence,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said last week. “I’m not encouraging violence, and in fact I’m about the business of identifying those violent perpetrators that carry illegal guns” but I will “stand by” the right of law-abiding citizens to arm themselves and defend their own lives.

    Craig said the number of justified self-defense are not up significantly compared to last year.

    If that doesn’t make you feel good, i don’t know what I can tell you.

  • Wednesday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story this morning, this time it’s from Michigan where four youngsters were shopping for free jewelry;

    “We told them, ‘We have guns. We will shoot you. Leave, leave. We will shoot you. Leave.’ And they did not leave,” David Medawar told 24 Hour News 8.

    […]

    David Medawar said they could see the robbers coming, so they tried to gather their employees into a safe room. One employee did not make it into the safe room, Medawar said, and was ordered at gunpoint by the robbers to open the safe. The Medawars said the suspects were likely trying to get diamonds or other high-end valuables.

    Paul and David Medawar, who were watching video surveillance camera from the safe room, armed themselves. Then, they said, one of the suspects stuck a gun into the safe room.

    “They came in and pursued to try to get all of us,” David Medawar said. “And we saw the threat; we saw him aiming his gun at us, coming in the door, so we fired and eliminated the threat. And they fled.”

    None of the employees were injured and at least one of the thieves may have been wounded.

  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    AW1Ed sends us our feel good story for this morning, this time it’s from Connecticut where a National Guard sergeant encountered some rambunctious youths;

    The man, a National Guard staff sergeant who requested his name not be used to protect him and his family, tells Fox Connecticut he was driving on his street around 2:20 a.m. when he came across two cars blocking the road.

    He honked, and the two other drivers “became upset and approached … in a confrontational manner,” according to a police report.

    The man, who says he served in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007 as a member of the Guard’s 102nd Infantry Regiment, says he felt threatened.

    The resident told them he didn’t want trouble, and both drivers briefly left but then returned and drove toward his car. One, Edwin Franqui, rammed the Newbury Street man’s car head-on, while the other, Leanardo Vasquez, pulled alongside the man and aimed a gun at him, according to police.

    The resident pulled out his own pistol and fired several shots; one struck Vasquez, police said. Vasquez, 23, ran off and was later admitted to a hospital and listed in stable condition, according to police. Franqui, 22, was arrested by arriving officers and charged with failing to drive in the proper lane, driving with a suspended license and failing to carry a license. Police said he later damaged a door at police headquarters and was charged with criminal mischief.
