    Thursday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us a slew of stories for this morning, I guess the thieves are out doing their Christmas shopping early this year. The first comes from Texas;

    Police aren’t releasing many details at this time, but say the home invasion happened inside a home in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Boulevard about 2 A.M. The suspect is identified as 20-year-old Dakota Ray Huckaby of Gainesville.

    Belva McClinton with Gainesville police says the homeowner told officers over the phone he had shot the intruder.

    “Officers did arrive on scene and located a male laying in the backyard of the residence,” said McClinton. “He succumbed to his injuries, so they did not transport from the scene.”

    Family members at the residence didn’t wish to speak to the media, but they told us that the homeowner is the father of a 9-year-old boy, and he made the choice he felt necessary to protect his household–a decision that locals say they understand.

    The next story comes from Nebraska;

    Police say [Lee] Harvey approached the front door of the home when the homeowner heard a noise around 2:30 a.m. and came out to check. That homeowner confronted the suspect and the two got into a scuffle. The homeowner then opened fire, striking Harvey in the chest.

    Harvey tried to run away to the east, but police found him collapsed in the street about two blocks away from the residence. Medics rushed him to the hospital in “very critical” condition. He later died while receiving treatment at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center.

    Here’s another one from Texas where you don’t mess with a 71-year-old and his wife;

    Ronnie Lummus and his wife were leaving the Aldi grocery store on the 3100 block of Forest Lane at about 7:20 p.m. when a 36-year-old man approached the woman, grabbed her gold necklace and knocked her down, according to police.

    Lummus, who had a concealed handgun, fired multiple shots at the man, striking him as he tried to flee in his nearby vehicle, police said. The man succumbed to his injuries, though, and collided with a parked vehicle.

    The last story comes from California;

    Detectives say the woman was asleep in her home, when the burglar alarm went off, waking her and her roommate. She then discovered a 34-year-old woman inside her home trying to shut off the alarm. After the victim told the suspect to get out of her house, the woman became verbally abusive and threatened the homeowner. The woman armed herself with a handgun from the master bedroom and tried to force the suspect to leave.

    “Fearing for her safety, the victim fired a round at the suspect, hitting her in the leg,” he said. “The suspect ran out of the house and collapsed on a lawn a few houses to the north.”

  • Wednesday feel good story

    Wednesday feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story this morning, this time it happened in Ohio (video report at the link). A business owner had his building looted the other night, some power tools were lost. The owner figured the fellow would be back for the rest, and that happened at about 10 PM.

    The business owner confronted him and one shot was fired. Pellets from the shotgun blast hit the guy in the butt. Police say the burglar was Kevin Henderson.

    [Says the owner:] You always go with your gut. I don’t believe shooting someone to kill; shooting them in the butt is a good idea.

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories again, the first is from Alabama;

    Police said two gunmen went into the restaurant in the 1800 block of 20th Street Ensley about 6:30 p.m. There were several employees inside, but no patrons, said Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards.

    As one of the cooks began to run to the back of the restaurant, one of the suspects pursued him. The suspect shot the employee in the leg as he ran.

    The employee returned fire, hitting the suspect in the stomach. Both suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

    The employee has been released from the hospital while the crook is in critical condition. So I guess we know who won that skirmish.

    The second story comes from Ohio;

    Officers said they were called to the 1200 block of Section Road around 1:20 a.m. to find a man who had been shot in the back.

    They determined that two men broke into a secure lot on the property, intending to steal items.

    A person who leases the property opened fire and shot one of the men, police said.

    Short but sweet.

    Today’s feel good story comes from New Mexico;

    The clerk told police that at about 6:45 p.m. Monday he heard a bell sound, signaling that someone had pulled into the drive-through. As he was going to greet the customers, two masked men walked in. One had an AR-15 rifle. The other had a shotgun.

    The clerk had a pistol but hid it because the men were pointing the guns at him.

    The men talked about shooting the clerk in the arm, but didn’t. One of the men – later identified as Lucero – forced the clerk’s family members onto their stomachs between aisles of chips and sodas, brandishing the rifle, deputies said. He fired multiple shots at one of the store’s surveillance cameras but missed, according to the criminal complaint.

    Deputies say Garza took off with the cash and valuables, and the pair got into a silver Mercedes. When the clerk went to lock the door, one of the suspects pointed a gun at him from the car window and he heard the other one saying “shoot,” the complaint states.

    The clerk fired at least five shots at the fleeing car with his pistol. Deputies said he carries the gun for protection.

    A second story sent by Chief Tango comes from Colorado where a woman was killed when she forced her way into an apartment in a home invasion scenario;

    Police said the homeowner heard loud banging on his front door, and when he went to see what was going on, discovered that a woman had managed to get inside the home.

    “Officers responded to find an 18-year-old female who had died from being shot after entry was forced into the home of a male homeowner whom she had a previous relationship with,” police said in a news release.

    Witnesses reported hearing at least five shots fired. Police haven’t said who fired the fatal shots. They were talking to several “parties of interest” and witnesses.

    The woman’s name has not been released by police but the Pueblo Chieftain identified the woman as Kirsten Djuric.

    The homeowner told investigators the man was trying to break in to his home when he confronted the suspect.

    Saturday feel good story

    Our feel good story this morning comes from California;

    Sheriff’s investigators say that 23-year-old Kristopher Randi was arrested after being sniffed out by a K-9 unit in a Jamestown home. As reported earlier this month, deputies were already on the lookout for Randi, who was wanted on several drug warrants.

    The incident unfolded last night when sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on the 18000 Block of Seco Street in Jamestown around 6:25 p.m. for a report of a homeowner who had just “shot a burglar.”

    Once on the scene, the male homeowner told deputies he had shot a male intruder who “ran at” him when confronted. The owner says he shot the the intruder in the leg and the man ran out of the home. The homeowner told deputies he had the gun because of a previous burglary on his property.

    Deputies began to search the area near the home and received information that the suspect may be Randi. That led deputies to a home on the 18000 block of 5th Ave in Jamestown, where residents denied Randi was in the home, but according to detectives, agreed to a search of the house. Deputies brought in the K-9 dog, Justice, who found Randi hiding. Investigators say Randi resisted arrest and was bitten by Justice.

    “Bitten by Justice” – they should tattoo that on his forehead.

    Here’s another from Alabama;

    A truck driver who was working in the area and witnessed the burglary says he saw a white Suburban truck pull up in front of the house and back into the driveway.

    The truck driver said he saw two young black males walk into the side door of the home. He reportedly heard gunshots a few minutes later.

    According to the witness, one of the men came out of the house, jumped off the porch and ran behind the house. The other one ducked down beside the truck and eventually drove away, the witness said.

    Police believe the suspect driving the Suburban picked up the other suspect who had been shot and dropped him off at Trinity Medical Center.

    Law enforcement put out an alert for the white Suburban and caught the second suspect, who is now in custody.

    And a third one from Georgia;

    The homeowner confronted the burglar after returning to his home in the 4800 block of Hairston Crossing Place at around 10:30 p.m. Police say the homeowner shot and killed the suspect, but was also shot a couple of times.

    The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

    Thursday morning feel good story

    Once again, Chief Tango sends us our morning feel good story, this time it comes from North Carolina;

    According to witnesses, a man, his wife, and his 19-year-old granddaughter were home on Yedda Road in Lumberton when a black male knocked on their door and asked for water for his mechanical problems with his car.

    Two other people entered the home wearing black clothing, ski masks and gloves asking for money. All three suspects also had handguns, according to the release.

    The release states that the man and his wife were forced into the back of the house and advised to open the safe while the suspects attempted to rape the 19-year-old granddaughter.

    The man was then able to retrieve a weapon and several shots were fired between the man and the suspects in the house. The man was struck multiple times by gunshots and the suspects then fled the scene in his vehicle.
