    Wednesday morning feel good stories

    Amy sends us our first feel good story this morning from Texas where a group of fellows approached security at a bar who happened to be off-duty cops;

    The group of victims claimed they were all robbed at gunpoint nearby. At first, the off-duty officers couldn’t find the suspects.

    However, one victim came back with the suspect’s truck description and license plate. Then the officers got in their car, drove around the neighborhood, noticed cars vandalized and found the suspect’s truck sitting in the 1100 block of Oliver.

    Police heard a woman scream and saw the suspects running. Despite warnings from officers to stop, both suspects got in their truck.

    Police say the driver revved his engine and started driving toward one of the officers. That is when he decided to open fire. His partner, who was off to the side, also opened fire on the suspects.

    The second story sent by Chief Tango comes from Louisiana;

    According to police, a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg after someone broke into the home. The victim told police that the man entered the home through a back window.

    Officials say the victim managed to return gunfire, but it is unknown whether or not the suspect was injured.

    One more from Chief Tango happened in Florida;

    Detectives say Saturday morning around 6 a.m. [Michael T. White] was wandering from house to house in the area of Loop Road and Saddle Creek Road, entering residents’ porches and yards.

    At one home, one resident saw him and told him to leave the yard. He then started swinging a chain, saying he was a “prophet and could talk to animals,” and that “this was the time of Revelations,” according to the sheriff’s office.

    White then approached the porch, and the homeowner pulled a handgun and told him to leave, and he did, the sheriff’s office said.

    At another home, a resident saw him just outside the porch and yelled at him to leave.

    “Terrifying, terrifying. I mean, we’re older people,” the homeowner said. “I said get the F off my property.”

    White responded that he “belonged” on the property because his sister was the “Lord of the Estate.” He said “his sister was a witch and burned at the stake on the property so it belonged to him,” the sheriff’s office said.

    The homeowner got a shotgun and ordered him off the property. White then pulled a 12.5-inch, double-bladed dagger from his waistband, and threw it through the screen porch at the resident.

    That’s when the resident, Paul Ring, fired his gun at White, striking him in the arm.

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    This morning’s short feel good story comes from Missouri;

    Police say the bandit, armed with a gun, walked into the BP gas station near South Grand and Arsenal and demanded money.

    The clerk also had a gun and shot the robber twice, once in each leg.

    The robber is hospitalized pending charges.

    Here’s a bonus story of a Nashua, NH store clerk who chased off a thief who told him the clerk that he was armed and the clerk responded with a pipe. As the thief left, the clerk got his license plate number;

    Chief Tango sends a story from Michigan;

    Jessica Abels, who lives near the spot on Cronk Avenue near Illinois Avenue where the woman was found walking bloodied and naked, said she looked out the window when she heard a woman screaming for help around 2 p.m. Sept. 26.

    She saw the woman jump out the window of a nearby vacant home, she said.

    “Her eyes were all swollen and she had blood all over her and in her mouth,” Abels said. “She was pretty messed up.”

    That’s when the community jumped into action.

    Several area residents offered the 21-year-old woman clothing and comfort while a man who holds a valid concealed pistols license ordered the suspect out of the house at gunpoint, according to Flint police.

    The man took off running but was chased down by the gun-wielding citizen who, with the help of an undercover auto theft police officer, tackled and held him down until police arrived.

    Saturday morning feel good story

    This morning’s story comes from Texas;

    According to police, the homeowner heard someone breaking into his Jeep, and that’s when he got a gun and held the man for officers.

    Moments later, the man tried to run away, and that’s when the homeowner shot him in the leg, police said. Despite the wound, the man managed to run from the scene. Later that morning, a man with a gunshot wound showed up at Methodist Hospital downtown. Police said they believe that man was the one who broke into the Jeep. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

    The crook also left his bicycle at the scene, so the homeowner wins.

  • Friday morning feel good story

    Friday morning feel good story

    Our story today comes from Florida;

    Two men entered the Citgo in the 3600 block of Curry Ford Road shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday and appeared at first to want to purchase the beer and cigarettes, police said.

    When the clerk told one of the men he could not sell him the cigarettes because he was underage, the second man went to his vehicle and came back with a small black handgun, investigators said.

    The man pointed the gun at the clerk and both men left with the beer without paying, police said.

    The clerk followed the men outside with a Glock 27 .40-caliber in his pocket, investigators said.

    He told police that one of the men got out of the car and pointed the gun at him before getting back in the dark colored four-door vehicle.

    The clerk told investigators he was afraid the man would get back out of his car and shoot him so he “stepped off to the rear right side of the vehicle and fired two shots in the area of the rear right passenger side tire,” according to the police report.

    This happened a few days ago and I don’t see where the criminals were caught or treated for injuries, so it’s back to the range for the clerk. The clerk said that the same two white fellows stole beer from him the previous week. Maybe that will end their crime spree, but I doubt it.

    Thursday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story again this morning – this time it’s from Miami;

    When officers arrived they found three men with gunshot wounds. One of the men was dead. The two others were taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center where one of them died.

    “Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what occurred, they are getting statements from possible witnesses who may have heard or seen something,” said police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. “We are not looking for any other subjects at this time.”

    Police said the man living in the home was not hurt. He reportedly told them he shot all three men after they forced their way into his home.

    Wednesday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story yet again, this time it happened in California;

    “As the intruder was breaking into their home, her husband warned the suspect that he was armed and would shoot him if he continued to force his way into their residence,” Manning said. “The suspect ignored the warning, broke a window and continued to force his way into their residence and was shot by the homeowner.”

    The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries, Manning said.

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    Today’s story comes from Texas where the homeowner was awakened by his alarm system in time to encounter a fellow entering the home through his backdoor;

    The homeowner confronted the man and then caught him as he fled, police said. The two got in a scuffle, police said, and the suspected burglar hit the homeowner repeatedly on the head.

    As the man ran again, the homeowner told police he fired a shot that hit the man in the leg. Officers determined the homeowner did not know the man and confirmed it was a burglary attempt.

    Officers later found a large screwdriver on the driveway that the man apparently used in the burglary attempt and the alleged assault.

    I can’t figure out how these guys with guns “got in a scuffle” – I understand the reluctance to shoot a man, but if they’re close enough to “hit the homeowner repeatedly on the head”, they’re within range.

  • Monday morning feel good story

    Monday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us this morning’s feel good story again. This time it’s from Missouri;

    According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at about 2:30 Saturday morning to a reported burglary in progress in the 5500 block of Rocky Fork Drive. Upon arrival, they determined that 39-year-old William Harper of Columbia had come to the residence looking for someone and was told to leave.

    After refusing to leave, deputies say Harper pulled a handgun and struck the victim, at which time the victim grabbed his own gun and shot Harper in the arm.

    Harper ran away at that point, but was taken in to custody a short time later.
