    Saturday morning feel good stories

    Our first inspiring story comes from Texas, like most days;

    According to police at the scene, two men were inside the apartment when four armed suspects tried to force their way in through the front door. One of the men inside was armed and was able to fire shots. The suspects returned fire and it turned into a full-blown shootout.

    Three of the suspects fled, one of them was killed on the scene. Detectives are telling us they don’t know right now if this apartment was targeted or what the suspects could be looking for.

    Officers say they are having a difficult time getting witness to talk at the scene, and it seems like everyone is scared.

    The two men inside the apartment at the time it happened are unhurt and are being interviewed by police.

    Here’s another story from Florida;

    Officials said the victim and another man were doing a land survey in the area of Northwest 45th Avenue and Northwest 8th Street when he was approached by the suspect, who pulled out a gun and demanded money.

    The victim said he didn’t have any money and the suspect demanded his cellphone and told him to get on the ground. The victim complied but while he was on the ground he took out his own gun and shot the would-be robber, officials said.

    Friday morning feel good story

    Today’s feel good story about troubled youths turning their lives around comes from Texas;

    According to police, a man was walking along the sidewalk when a vehicle drove up next to him. The driver pulled out a gun and demanded money. However, the pedestrian was armed as well, and he started firing. The robbery suspect was struck by the gunfire.

    The suspected robber’s car then crashed into a covered bus stop bench. That suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, but later pronounced dead.

  • Thursday morning feel good stories

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    Our first inspiring story about people who are turning their lives around comes from Texas;

    According to the Houston Police Department, it all started around 9:20 p.m. outside of a residence in the 2200 block of Roy near Larkin. At that time, two male suspects approached a family which had just arrived at their home.

    Investigators said one suspect struck a family member in the face with a handgun while the second suspect forced the family inside the residence.

    A friend of the family managed to retrieve his gun from his vehicle and fired at least once at one suspect, who fled the scene on foot. Police said the family friend then confronted the second suspect and fatally shot him.

    Police found the second suspect, who was armed, hiding inside a near-by Wendy’s restaurant.

    Travelling a bit north, we get to Oklahoma;

    Jimmie Dale Lee, 54, was shot after allegedly forcing a man to hand over his $15,000 watch, police said. When Lee told the victim to go into the bedroom of a recreational vehicle, the victim grabbed a gun behind the mattress. The victim then shot Lee, police said.

    Police reported that Lee used to work for the victim but was fired.

    I guess Jimmie wasn’t interested in getting his job back. That’s OK, he doesn’t need it now, anyway.

    A little to the east from there, we come to Tennessee;

    Metro police told News 2 that the suspect entered the store while the clerk was counting money at the register.

    When the employee felt threatened by the man, he shot him in the stomach. Police say the clerk acted in self-defense.

    The suspect then ran to his car and fled the scene. The suspect was found a short time later in his car after he crashed into a fire hydrant.

    Traveling a bit further north, we go to Wisconsin;

    The injured man, interviewed after being taken to a hospital, told police that he awoke at about 2:30 a.m. to see a man standing over him pointing a knife. The victim began kicking and scuffled with the suspect, even after receiving a cut to his neck. The wound stretched from the victim’s ear and curved down to within a quarter of an inch from his Adam’s apple, the complaint states.

    The victim’s girlfriend, who awoke during the fight, picked up a gun, spurring the burglar to flee from the scene and evade a shot from the gun while doing so.

    Responding police found a trail of blood in a hallway, two discarded gloves, serrated “’Rambo’ style knife” left behind and an open window believed to be the entry point.

    So this rocket surgeon slipped out through the window and went straight home…through the snow, leaving a trail for the police to follow. When he was arrested, he told the police that his father and grandfather were murderers and he wanted to see if he could do it. Apparently, he couldn’t. His victim is still alive, so that’s something else that he failed at. I’ll bet that he makes a good prison girlfriend, though.

  • Wednesday morning feel good story

    Wednesday morning feel good story

    The first story today comes from Ohio;

    Officers responding to a shooting just after midnight found David A. Mullins, 28, behind 142 Hayden Ave., homicide detectives said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    As officers found Mullins, a man called Columbus police and said he had shot a person who had tried to rob him at gunpoint.

    Detectives have not released the name of the robbery victim, but said that the evidence indicates Mullins was committing a robbery. They did not elaborate.

    The family of Mr. Mullins thinks there’s something fishy about the shooting because their boy wouldn’t do anything like rob someone. The crowd he was running with would, but not Mr. Mullins, himself.

    The next one comes from Georgia;

    Investigators said the victim, Joseph Toombs, was waiting in line at the drive-thru when he saw three suspects approach him on foot. At least one suspect was armed with a gun.

    Police said Toombs pulled out his own gun and shot at the suspects, striking 19-year-old Kenneth Brayboy. Brayboy was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition; he later died.

    The other two suspects ran; one has since been caught. That suspect, 17-year-old Desmond McKnight, has been charged with murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and tampering with evidence.

    Finally, from Delaware;

    Troopers said a male suspect wearing a mask entered the BP gas station at 4001 Lancaster Pike in Wilmington just before 6 p.m. The suspect indicated he was armed but didn’t show a weapon, police said.

    Police said when the suspect confronted the 32-year-old male store clerk and demanded money, the clerk fired a weapon at the suspect.

    The suspect then fled westbound from the station, troopers said. It’s not known whether he was shot or not. The store employee wasn’t hurt.

    I guess he was another “finger gun” robber.

  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    This morning’s story is a little different than most, but it happened in North Carolina where Brad Coville, a local photographer, was getting a sandwich at a convenience store, when a fellow came in wearing a hoodie and announced that he had a gun in his pocket and that he wanted the money from the register;

    Coville, who was standing beside Boyd at the counter, said the man didn’t pay him any attention at first.

    “The first time he said whatever he said it was unintelligible,” Coville recalled.

    But Coville said Boyd was pointing and that it seemed as if Boyd had a gun in his pocket.

    “Then he swung toward me like he was going to say something to me, but when he swung toward me his hand came out of his pocket and all he had was a finger,” Coville said.

    When Boyd turned back to the clerk, Coville made his move toward him.

    “I grabbed his arm and took him to the ground, put him in a bend wrist and held his wrist,” Coville said. “I told the clerk to call the police, so she did.”

    Coville said while he had Boyd pinned to the ground, Boyd started calling him names.

    “He said, ‘You are a crazy redneck (expletive deleted),’” Coville recalled.

    Coville said he told Boyd to stop resisting.

    While Coville had Boyd pinned to the floor, Boyd, the criminal begged for the clerk to call the police and he was gratified that they came and hauled his little finger-pointing ass off to his reward.

    Monday morning feel good stories

    Our first story this morning comes from Alaska;

    A 46-year-old Fairbanks man was shot in his left arm after he was found inside an apartment bedroom in the 300 block of First Avenue.

    About 4 a.m. the resident reported hearing a knock on an upstairs door, but found nothing. The man then saw a dark figure inside one of the bedrooms and fired a single shot.

    The intruder was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

    Our next story comes from New Jersey;

    At approximately 3:15 a.m. Jan. 18, the Lower Township Police responded to the 700 block of Route 109 in the Cold Spring section of Lower Township for a report of a person attempting to gain entry into an occupied residence. As officers were enroute to the location it was learned that the homeowner shot the intruder after he broke through the glass door.

    The intruder, James P. Weaver Jr., 21, of the Cold Spring section of Lower Township was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

    We need more of these guys to “succumb” to their injuries. Mr. Weaver made a bad choice when he decided to bother one of the few property owners with a gun in New Jersey.

  • Sunday morning feel good stories

    Sunday morning feel good stories

    This morning’s first feel good story comes from Oklahoma;

    The victim of an attempted robbery shot the man who allegedly tried to rob him outside of a convenience store Friday in northwest Oklahoma City, according to police.

    About 8 p.m., a man was walking out of the Four Seasons Gas and Food, 13 NW 63, when another man tried to rob him. The victim then shot the robber, police said.

    Police did not release the condition of the man shot. A body was at the scene of the shooting.

    The next story comes from New Jersey;

    Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday two men burst into a variety story in the 400 block of Central Avenue, with one man ordering customers onto the floor and threatening to shoot if the owner did not give the pair money. One of the suspects, 23-year-old Durell Hearn, was wielding an AK-47 pistol and fired a warning shot, department spokesman Sgt. Ron Glover said.

    The owner of the business, who was behind the counter, reached for a handgun she keeps in the store and fired a number of rounds at Hearn and the other man, Arthur Price, 50.

    The woman, whose name was not released, struck Hearn in the leg as the two men fled the store. Hearn fired a shot as he fled but did not strike anyone, Glover said, adding that Hearn’s gun was later found on the sidewalk outside the store.

    Price later told police he drove Hearn to University Hospital, where emergency room personnel contacted police when Price dropped off Hearn.

    Next welcome to Wild and Wonderful West Virginia;

    [Clay County Sheriff Garrett] Samples said the shooting happened about 8:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Little Beechy Road in Clay County. Samples said the homeowner, Jerry Quinn, 64, was in bed when he heard an intruder inside of his residence. Quinn fired at the armed intruder, fatally shooting him.

    Samples said initial evidence suggests it was self-defense. He said Quinn kept a weapon in a bedside table.

    Finally, the last story comes from Missouri;

    David Shemonia, 31, of New Athens had broken out a rear window of a home in the 9400 block of Torrens Lane, according to Capt. Scott Weymouth, with the county sheriff’s department. The owner of the home, Bruce Shockley, told police he heard a noise and fired.

    Shockley, 56, called police at 5:41 p.m. and when officers arrived, they found Shemonia dead in the backyard of the home.

    Weymouth said the two men knew each other.

    “The homeowner found out after he shot the intruder that he was familiar with the man,” Weymouth said.

    He declined to characterize the relationship beyond that, other than to say the men were not related.

    Then comes North Carolina;

    [Tyraan McLean, 29] told investigators he and his 2-year-old son were lying on a bed when he hear a loud booming noise.

    McLean got up, ran to the back door and found Emanuel in the room, Thompson said.

    McLean, armed with a 9mm handgun, shot Emanuel multiple times, Thompson said.

    McLean then called 911 and reported the shooting, telling them Emanuel had kicked in the door.

    McLean then took his son to a neighbor’s home.
