    Thursday morning feel good stories

    Our first story was sent by Top Kone and it comes from Ashtabula, Ohio;

    A pregnant woman shot a 16-year-old juvenile in the chest after he and the woman’s estranged boyfriend broke down a door to her apartment Tuesday at Woodman Estates.
    The 16-year-old victim and the woman’s boyfriend and father of her unborn child — came to the woman’s apartment in the 5700 block of Woodman Avenue about 2 p.m. following an earlier domestic disturbance. When the mother of two wouldn’t let them in, they reportedly broke down the back door of her apartment about 2 p.m.
    “We found the back door kicked in,” Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell said. “He smashed the back door right off the hinges.”
    As they headed up the back stairs, the woman reportedly retrieved a small caliber handgun and shot at them, hitting the 16-year-old in the left side of his chest, Stell said.

    Two more stories from Chief Tango for your morning reading pleasure; the first is from Missouri;

    Police say the owner of Kaiser’s Grand Mart stopped the man from robbing his store at Grand and Delor, and followed him to the Walgreens a few blocks south at Grand and Bates.

    When the suspect announced a robbery and pulled his weapon at Walgreens, the Kaiser’s Grand Mart owner pulled his gun and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. Instead, the suspect pointed the toy gun at the store owner, who fired two shots.

    The suspect’s in critical but stable condition with a shoulder wound.

    The last story is from Kansas and the homeowner frustrated the investigation at first because he didn’t tell police that he had shot the intruder;

    The sheriff’s office said the 57-year-old homeowner now admits to shooting and killing Cody Reid, 27.

    Originally, the homeowner told investigators he did not shoot Reid. He said Reid ran from the home when he told him he was going to call 911. Then the homeowner said he heard a shot outside and found Reid lying on the ground dead.

    On Wednesday, Capt. Greg Pollock said that the homeowner had fired two shots with a handgun. One of the shots struck Reid in the chest.

    The handgun used in the shooting was recovered at the home on Broadway.

    Capt. Pollock said the sheriff’s office still believes Reid was breaking into the home based on physical evidence. He said it is “very frustrating” when people give false information.

    Always tell the police the truth – and when you pull the trigger, make sure you’re in the right by doing so.

    Folks in Georgia are marginally safer this morning thanks to a homeowner there;

    The man said he was asleep when someone kicked in the front door of his house on Kings Glen Drive around 11 a.m. The homeowner said he grabbed a gun and went to see what happened, then realized that someone was inside.

    “The male heard the entry of the suspect, retrieved a firearm and confronted him in the home,” DeKalb County Police Capt. Steve Fore said.

    As the suspect ran to his car, the homeowner shot at him, police said.

    “As he was getting into the vehicle, the homeowner reported that it appeared he was reaching for something in the vehicle, and in fear, (he) fired his weapon,” Fore said.

    Officers arrested the suspect at a nearby Texaco gas station on Panthersville Road. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. No one else was injured.

    Our first story this morning comes from Austin, Texas;

    A few minutes before the shooting, several 911 calls came in reporting a man who had been walking around the neighborhood banging on doors.

    When the suspect went to a home on Brantley Bend, he banged on the door and was able to force his way into the front entryway.

    “The homeowner was alerted to the previous banging by his wife,” said Senior Police Officer Veneza Bremner. “At which point, he went to the front door and fired his weapon at the suspect, striking him in the front of his body.”

    The suspect died at the scene. The husband and wife, along with their three kids, were home at the time of the incident.

    “The homeowner feared for his life and his family’s life,” said Bremner.

    The second story comes from New Mexico;

    Police arrested Erica Duran, 32, on Maez Road after an Agua Fría Street homeowner fired one shot from his gun as she allegedly attempted to burglarize his home, said Lt. Andrea Dobyns of the Santa Fe Police Department. The round hit the ground and no one was injured during the incident, she said.

    The homeowner had not been identified as of Sunday afternoon, and Dobyns said she did not know what type of gun he used. According to the police report, at about 11:48 a.m. Sunday, Duran broke a window to the man’s home and then armed herself with a piece of glass, prompting the man to fire.

Schilling further stated that as he approached the door, this individual did kick in the door to the residence. Schilling was armed with a handgun and ordered the unknown person to leave his residence. Schilling indicated that he was then assaulted by the man and during that assault Schilling shot him.

    Another source tells us that Schilling did the country a better favor than you might think from the first article;

    During the struggle, Schilling shot the suspect in the groin and leg area.

    Polk County deputies met with Schilling outside of the home on Main Street. Deputies entered the home and found 25-year-old Derek Amoroso lying on the kitchen floor with a single gunshot wound.

    The next story comes from Texas;

    Police got the call around 9:30pm last night at the “Best Fireworks Stand” located in the 2200 block of Highland Knolls Drive near South Mason Road.

    The manager was closing for the night when he says two men pulled up in a Ford Mustang and tried to rob him. The manager then pulled out his own gun and opened fire.

    The Harris County Sheriff’s Office believes the robbers may be part of an even bigger robbery spree.

    “I understand he robbed at least two other places tonight and shot at the complainants,” said Sgt. Scott Ashmore. “Tonight, he robbed this fireworks stand… and the owner of the establishment was armed and got into a shootout with the suspect.”

    The robber who was shot was hit four times and taken to the hospital.

    And then in Arkansas;

    A Pulaski county man says he shot and killed a man who had broken into his home.

    Pulaski County Sheriff’s Lt. Carl Minden told reporters that deputies found 25-year-old Garrett Cowsert of Sherwood dead early Tuesday outside the home between Jacksonville and Cabot.

    Deputies found 21-year-old Zachary Blalock inside the home and say that Blalock told them Cowsert broke into the home and that he shot him.

    And another from Arkansas;

    Murrey was just looking to get some shut-eye in his North Little Rock home when he suddenly heard a noise.

    “I got up, walked over here and I peeked like this, and I see the curtain kind of pulled back a little, so I said to myself…somebody is trying to break into the home,” said Murrey.

    Murrey identified the intruder as Giles, a parole absconder according to North Little Rock Police.

    After the first loud noise, Murrey said he grabbed his gun and called police, shortly after he heard another noise.

    “I said ma’am he’s coming in the house, almost half his body is in the house, I said I’m going to shoot him…I’m going to shoot him, she said no don’t shoot him,” added Murrey. “By the time I told her I was going to shoot him, I pulled the trigger and nothing happened, the gun was on safety.”

    Murrey tells Channel 7 Giles fled, but police caught him near the area of Flora Street just minutes after.
