    Thursday morning feel good stories

    I guess it’s “Good Gals with Guns Thursday”. Our first story this morning comes from South Carolina;

    Saturday, March 7, at around 9 a.m., the victim told police the suspect approached her as she was withdrawing money from an ATM on Socastee Boulevard.

    The victim said the man demanded money and threatened to inject her with a needle he was carrying. Police often hear reports of ATM robberies, but not the latter.

    “They’re contaminated, they’re dirty, needles,” said Lt. Raul Denis, of the Horry County Police Department. “But it’s not a common occurrence to be threatened with a needle.”

    The victim, who happens to have a concealed weapons permit, drew her weapon on the robber and watched as he ran off, police said.

    “The victim stated once the suspect pulled the needle out, she pulled out her handgun and stuck it in the suspect’s face. The victim advised the suspect, ‘I dare you to stab me,’” the report states.

    Although the victim didn’t shoot the gun, she could’ve been covered under the Castle Doctrine, which expanded in the past five years to include areas beyond the home. 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said.

    From another link, the perp was actually insulted by the threat;

    The suspect said “Are you seriously going do that to me,” and ran off, the report said.

    Our last stop is in Michigan, where another woman was forced to defend her family;

    Police say a woman came home and saw three people inside her home. She was able to shoot one of the people in the shoulder.

    The other two suspects ran off. Police are still searching for them.

    Police have called in K-9 units from Grosse Pointe Farms and Wayne State to assist.

    Relatives of the victims tell 7 Action News that the homeowner is okay. However, they say that this is the fourth time her home has been broken into.

    The media has been telling us over the past few months that more and more women are arming themselves, and it appears that they have a good reason to do so. All of our best to these two brave ladies and our wish for continued good health.

    Wednesday morning feel good stories

    Our first story this morning comes from Florida, where they stand their ground;

    [Belgie ] Tapia said she heard a knock at the door and when she looked out the window she saw what she thought was a UPS driver delivering a package. She said she saw a man with a UPS hat and shirt on.

    “I proceeded to open the door and that’s when he put the gun to my face and told me to lay down on the ground,” Tapia said.

    Deputies said that man was 23-year-old Travis Brown. An accomplice, 24-year-old Kayla Oharrow, followed him inside.

    “They proceeded to put the gun to my head and threaten me,” Tapia said. “If I didn’t find them anything of value they were going to shoot me.”

    It all happened while her 2-year-old daughter was crying in the next room.

    But what the thieves didn’t know is that her older brother, Jose, had seen them breaking in on their home security system. Tapia told Local 6 he called 911, which spooked the pair into running out of the house.

    Deputies said Jose chased after the suspects and used a shotgun to fire at them.

    The next stop is in Texas;

    The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. at a private home off Highway 84, west of Teague.

    Initial reports indicate three teens forced their way into the home, and at least one of them was armed.

    The homeowner was shot in the stomach. He was also armed and returned fire at the robbers, shooting one of the suspects, who then fled.

    19-year-old Joshua Mulkey was found dead just outside the home. Two 18-year-olds, O’Jarion McClenon and Lawson Abram, were taken into custody after being found nearby. They are in the Freestone County Jail each facing a count of aggravated robbery.

    Tuesday morning feel good stories

    Amy sends us our first feel good story this morning, this time it comes from Texas;

    In broad daylight Saturday, three suspects attempted to break into a man’s home.

    But they were quickly chased off as the homeowner grabbed a gun and opened fire, hitting two of the suspects.

    The suspects started banging on the front door of the man’s home. When he opened the door, they attempted to barge in.

    “We seen guys running off because we had the door open,” said neighbor Matthew Carter.

    A window in Carter’s house was struck by a stray bullet during the shooting. But Carter says he holds no ill will.

    Chief Tango sends us two more stories, the first is from Michigan;

    The incident happened around 4:00 a.m. in the 11000 block of Minden in Detroit. The woman was heading back inside her home after returning from the store.

    When she saw the suspect charging at her, she opened fire. According to the woman’s husband, the man got back up after being shot in the chest and said he was going to kill her.

    That’s when her husband let their two dogs out, a pitbull and a bulldog. The dogs pulled the 47-year-old suspect back over the fence and kept him there until police arrived. The woman’s husband says the dogs were protecting her.

    Finally, from Texas, again;

    According to police, a man who lives in the shop at Buena Vista Street and South San Marcos heard someone breaking into the building just before 7 a.m.

    The man then shot at the suspected burglar, who took off on foot, said police.

    Police said they then found a man with a gunshot wound a couple of blocks away from the auto shop.

    First responders took the man with the gunshot wound to University Hospital in stable condition.

    Today’s feel good story to kick off your week is from Oregon;

    Springfield police officers found Casey Michael Carlson in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

    Investigators say Carlson, 24, was armed with the gun when he allegedly forced his way into a house shortly before 1 a.m. and encountered the homeowner.

    The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/1Eqmtwi ) the gun went off as Carlson fought with the homeowner. After being shot, Carlson staggered outside and called 911.

    Carlson was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. The homeowner received minor injuries.

    You should probably keep your finger off the trigger while you’re struggling with a homeowner…or not.

    Sunday morning feel good stories

    This time it happened in Austin and an unfortunate criminal tried to hold up a Starbucks in the presence of two Marines;

    “I’m walking about right here, all of a sudden 3 guys come barreling out of the doors and this got about right over in here and these two guys were on top of him, one got, was bleeding from his head, and the other guy was saying I’m a marine, don’t fight it, he had him just kind of pinned down on the top wasn’t choking him or anything,” said Holmes.

    The two heroes are just that. They’re U.S. Marine veterans. Austin police did not release their names but FOX7 has learned one works in the office building above the Starbucks and the other is described as a regular customer. Yolanda Guzmen says she walked into the coffee shop right after the marines made the capture.

    […]

    For Clayton Holmes, there is no question the two men were heroes.

    “They just went into action, and took care of the situation and I thought really did the right thing and it was pretty amazing to watch really.”

    From Missouri comes the story of a woman who had to improvise when she was robbed;

    “There was a strange vehicle parked in the driveway… it was still running,” said Marti Wilson.

    Just after 11 on Tuesday morning, Wilson came home from school and was the only one home.

    “I noticed that someone had tampered with the side door,” Wilson said, “The glass was broken out, and part of the door was missing.”

    About three weeks ago a medication bottle was stolen from her with her contact information on it.

    “I knew something was going to happen, I just didn’t know when,” Wilson added.

    Wilson said there’s been a lot of activity around her home recently, and she had suspicions someone was trying to get in.

    “I think they’ve been trying to follow our patterns and see when we`re here and when we`re gone,” said Wilson.

    She was right. This week she said she caught 30-year-old Casey Hueser in the act.

    “I heard the garage door open and he came down the side stairs, so I met him down at the garage… and he started back up into the house,” Wilson said.

    Wilson said she took the key out of the ignition before he came back down, and used her pocket knife to punch holes in his tires.

    “I started to come up the side stairs and I was yelling… I was really angry,” Wilson said.

    The probable cause statement says Hueser forced his way into Wilson`s home and tried to steal many things, including prescription medication.

    “He had a container full of medication and prescription meds, and they went all over the stairwell and into the garage and he took off up the stairs,” said Wilson.

    After Wilson surrendered the key to the car to Hueser, he drove off, leaving a trail of rubber from the tire that Wilson had slashed – police picked up.

  • Saturday morning feel good story

    Saturday morning feel good story

    This story actually happened in early February when Ricky Stone, a security guard, encountered Monroe Bird III who seemed to be engaged in sexual activity. As Stone was investigating the incident, Bird ran into Stone with his automobile, breaking his wrist. Stone opened fire and struck Bird in the neck, who is now paralyzed. Well, on Wednesday, the prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney Erik Grayless, determined that Stone wasn’t going to be charged;

    Grayless reviewed the case and found that the “use of force (Stone) used was justified to prevent further battery on Stone by Bird.”

    Grayless said Stone’s wrist was broken from the initial impact with Bird’s vehicle, which indicated that he was at risk of “great bodily harm.”

    Once that occurred, Grayless said, Stone was legally justified in using his weapon to defend himself.

    “We feel terrible for Mr. Bird and his family,” Grayless said. “But ultimately it was Mr. Bird’s actions that caused this to happen.”

    The shooting is one of five that Tulsa police have deemed self-defense this year. Four of those shootings have resulted in deaths; Bird is the only one to survive his wounds.

  • Friday morning feel good story

    Friday morning feel good story

    Our first story comes from Indiana where you don’t need a restraining order if you have a gun;

    Investigators say a mother feared for her life when she shot and killed her ex-boyfriend early Wednesday morning.

    Police identified the ex-boyfriend Thursday as 34-year-old Anthony Santura Smith of Indianapolis. Investigators said Smith had not lived in Indiana very long and is originally from Virginia.

    Police said they were called been called to the woman’s unit at the Lexington Green Apartments in the 5800 block of West 25th Street in Speedway before for domestic issues between her and her ex-boyfriend. The 911 call she made this time, though, was different.

    She told dispatchers her ex-boyfriend, Smith, had kicked in her door. With her two young daughters – both under the age of 10 – asleep in the next room, she felt she had to shoot him.

    In Louisiana, Vontrail Walker, wanted on a peeping Tom warrant, evades a homeowner he victimized, but not the cops;

    A resident heard a noise in the hallway outside his bedroom, grabbed his gun and fired at Walker, who ran away, the report says.

    The victim identified Walker, who lives less than a quarter-mile away at his grandmother’s house, deputies said. When investigators went to the house, Walker jumped from his bed and began attacking them, the report says.

    Deputies used a stun gun on Walker and then handcuffed him but he got away from them and ran into a wooded area behind the house, the report says. He was captured shortly after and admitted to the burglary, the report says.

  • Thursday morning feel good stories

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    First up is a story from Connecticut, where just last year they restricted firearm ownership from law abiding citizens but forgot to restrict criminals from owning guns;

    Milford police said around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a group of people were leaving Eli’s Tavern located at 21 Daniel St. They were headed into the garage at 1 New Haven Ave. when they were approached by two suspects. Police said the suspects demanded the group’s belongings while one pointed a handgun at them.

    Police said the armed suspect fired a shot which hit one of the group in the neck and then continued to aim the gun at them. One of the group returned fire with a licensed weapon, striking one of the suspects.

    The other unarmed suspect fled the scene on foot according to police. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to a local hospital. The attempted robbery victim was treated for his injuries and later released according to police.

    I’m sure the criminals were surprised by the fact that some people in Connecticut are still licensed to carry guns. Maybe the legislature can fix that loophole for the crooks.

    And down in Georgia;

    A homeowner on Diann Drive said burglars kicked in his front door after he declined to answer their incessant knocking around 11:45 a.m., Detective Melissa Parker told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

    The homeowner and the suspected burglars then exchanged what sounded like 40 shots to neighbors. The homeowner thought he wounded one suspect and police found a man “shot multiple times” in woods near the home, Parker said.

    The man was in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital on Tuesday and detectives have not been able to interview him, Parker said. Police are looking for additional suspects, Parker said.

    And, in Arkansas, they take care of their neighbors when they’re not around;

    Police say two burglary suspects were caught in the act Tuesday afternoon by a man who saw them breaking into his neighbor’s house. One of the suspects was shot.

    According to Little Rock police, the incident happened around 12:45 Tuesday afternoon on Wakefield Drive. Police say a man confronted the two suspects after he watched them break into a neighbor’s house. According to police, the neighbor shot one of the suspects in the hand. No other shots or injuries were reported. The suspect who was shot was taken to a local hospital and the other suspect is in police custody.

    The homeowner was not there at the time of the incident.
