    Tuesday morning feel good stories

    Our first story comes from California;

    The incident started as a robbery before 1 a.m. on the 400 block of Acacia Lane in Santa Rosa. The homeowner shot at least one of the robbers during the home invasion.

    The homeowner called 911 and told police several armed males tried to force their way into the caller’s home, also occupied by a female and two children. The residents and the suspects exchanged gunfire and the suspects fled in a vehicle, police said.

    None of the home’s residents were injured, according to police.

    What that article doesn’t say is that, because it’s in the San Francisco, it involved a marijuana grow house, according the SFGate. The police found the pot thieves in a parking lot and used tear gas to coax them out of their car. the dead fellow doesn’t seem to have been affected by the gas, though.

    Next we go to Arizona, where they call someone who was shot forcing his way into a home a “victim”;

    When police arrived on scene, they found a 31-year-old man shot and killed.

    Phoenix police say the man did not live in the home, but was visiting three women who lived there.

    Authorities say the victim was involved in an ongoing domestic dispute with one of the women.

    Police say when the victim arrived at the house, he forced his way inside and was shot by one of the womens’ friends.

    The shooting suspect left before officers arrived on scene. Authorities are attempting to locate him for questioning.

    Another fatality happened in a North Carolina burglary;

    The homeowner was asleep upstairs when he heard a noise downstairs, officials said. He grabbed a shotgun and went to investigate.

    Deputies said that the person who broke into the home died on the way to the hospital from a gunshot wound.

    Officials are searching for a second person who also broke into the man’s home. The person ran off when shots were fired, officials said.

  • Monday morning feel good story

    Monday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from Texas;

    Coryell County deputies and a Department of Public Safety trooper found a man’s body in a field early Saturday morning, several hours after a rural homeowner reported that he had fired several shots at what evidently was a would-be burglar.

    Deputies responded at around 1:50 a.m. Saturday to a home at 810 County Road 176 in Coryell County in response to a report of a prowler.

    The homeowner, who was not identified, told deputies that the residents heard a prowler outside the home and that they fired several rounds at a person they saw leaving the residence, the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Saturday afternoon.

    One vehicle at the home appeared to have been broken into, authorities said.

    Texas is marginally safer this morning. Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

  • Sunday morning feel good stories

    Sunday morning feel good stories

    The first story comes from Idaho, where a retired Marine, Brian Becker, did what the cops couldn’t;

    Becker says when he heard his dog Jasmine barking, he grabbed a gun and flashlight, then went to check it out.

    Becker says when he went outside, he saw escaped convict Roy Bieluch standing in his yard. “You don’t get to pick where violence happens,” says Becker. “It happens all over the place. The only thing you can do is be ready if it does. Fortunately tonight, I was fortunate.”

    He says he told Bieluch to stay put and put his arms up. “He finally says, I’m not going to do it and I says oh yes you are,” Becker says. “He stepped toward me and that’s when I shot. He went down immediately. I switched gun hands and called 911, then went back, watched him, and they came up. The first officer that showed up, I told him I hadn’t searched him yet, so I covered {Bieluch} while he searched because {the deputy} came up single-handed.”

    Spokane, North Idaho News

    On to Ohio;

    At about 5:03 p.m., an unknown man brandished a gun at Metro PCS, 4111 Monroe St., police said.

    Manager Kevin Karcho then pulled out a firearm and shot as the suspect stood in the doorway, according to police.

    In an interview, Mr. Karcho said the robber believed he was reaching for cash. He said he was not frightened and did not intend to strike the man.

    “It just happened quickly,” he said.

    The suspect left the store without cash and ran south along Bellevue Road toward Central Avenue. The suspect’s wig was recovered in the 3700 block of Bellevue Road, police said.

    Then out in California;

    “The [off-duty police] officer was in his home, sitting in the living room when he saw a male black about 20 years old wearing dark clothing standing in his kitchen,” Marquez said.

    The officer ran to another room and armed himself with a shotgun, LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery said.

    “Once he was armed, he exited the side door of his residence,” the sergeant said.

    The officer encountered the intruder behind the house, near the back door, he said.

    “It was at that point that am officer-involved shooting occurred,” Montgomery said. It was unclear exactly what promted the officer to open fire.

    The suspect ran off, officials said.

    Police searched the area but were unable to find the suspect, Montgomery said.

    It was unclear if the suspect was struck by the gunfire.

    I’m thinking that a cop who can’t hit a man-sized object with a shotgun needs more range time.

    As always, thanks to Chief Tango for the links.

  • Saturday morning feel good story

    Saturday morning feel good story

    The first story comes from South Carolina where a homeowner had to disarm an intruder in order to have a weapon;

    Platts says he discovered a man crouched in his laundry room, pointing a shotgun directly at him early Saturday morning.

    He says he doesn’t remember anything that went through his head before he lunged at the intruder…except for one thing.

    “The only thing I do remember was that I knew if he got past me, he was going to go after my wife and my daughter.”

    Within seconds, Platts says he was able to pry the shotgun from the intruder’s hands.

    “I called for my wife and she took the shotgun out of my hand,” he said.

    Their daughter, 17 years old, was the one who called police while wife Carrie Platts held the shotgun at the intruder. They say he broke in through their doggy door.

    “When David had him on the floor he just kept staring at my daughter. and now when she closes her eyes at night that’s all she sees,” Carrie said. “We’re all having trouble sleeping. we’re having trouble just being here because you’re been invaded. your home’s been invaded. your privacy’s been taken away.”

    As an aside, if you’re ordering a pizza in Indianapolis, it’s probably going to be delivered by a Second Amendment supporter;

    One driver at Just Pizza’s westside location contacted by IM declined to say how many drivers there carry weapons, but added, “We’re big believers in the Second Amendment.”

    Pizza delivery is often cited as one of the most dangerous occupations nationwide, though the Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn’t track the specific numbers. But according to preliminary data for 2013, the occupational class they belong to—“drivers, sales workers, and truck drivers”—experienced the highest fatality rate of any job, registering 748 deaths. Indeed, less than two weeks after Sullivan’s death, Papa John’s driver Daniel Jaffke delivered to a southside apartment complex where a robber shot the 30-year-old through the heart and left him dead by a Dumpster. The shooter, Shawn Wilson, 27, was convicted in August.

  • Friday morning feel good stories

    Friday morning feel good stories

    Amy sends us our first feel good story today, this time it’s from Houston, like so many of these stories are lately;

    It happened early Thursday at the Cherry Creek Apartments on Hollister near Tidwell.

    The resident told police one, possibly two suspects busted through an upstairs living room window at his apartment, so he opened fire.

    The wounded suspect was taken to Ben Taub. The second possible suspect got away.

    The resident who fired the shot was placed in the back of a patrol car for questioning, but police say he is not under arrest.

    From Chief Tango come a few more stories, the first from Oklahoma, where criminals are really just big babies, I guess;

    Giovanni Davenport is accused of threatening the clerk with an ax and demanding cash from the register at Portland Express Mart near N.W. 36th and Portland, Tuesday afternoon.

    The clerk, Ali Ait Mahdi was not intimidated. Instead, he took matters into his own hands.

    “In situations like that you always fight for yourself, your life,” Ait Mahdi said, “you can’t help it, it’s an instinct.”

    Ait Mahdi said he threatened to shoot the thief.

    “He said give me the money. He didn’t care when I told him I had a gun, so someone was really willing to die or get shot for nothing,” Ait Mahdi said he didn’t actually pull a gun on the thief but reached behind the counter for the next best thing, pepper spray.

    “As soon as I saw his eyes the only thing I could think was to spray him,” Ait Mahdi explained, “I didn’t think about the ax.”

    Davenport allegedly started swinging the ax when he was blinded by the pepper spray. According to police, he struck the top of the counter and toppled some displays but no one was hurt.

    “I really thank God nothing happened because situations like this you really don’t know,” said Ait Mahdi.

    After 30 seconds inside the store, police said Davenport stumbled out the door and straight into the arms of two FBI agents.

    The agents told investigators Davenport was throwing up and crying for his momma until police arrived to arrest him.

    Now, back to our regularly scheduled program, in Ohio;

    The man who was shot was pronounced dead around 7:00 a.m. at Mount Carmel West Hospital.

    Police believe the man was a robbery suspect, breaking into neighborhood homes.

    Sgt. Dave Sicilian said the unidentified man broke into a back door, was chased by a person inside then jumped out of a second floor window, before crawling across the street and breaking into a second home.

    “The homeowner was awakened and defended herself,” said Sicilian. “We need to determine if she needed to defend herself and if she took the proper action.”

    The woman’s son said he bought her a handgun last week for self defense.

  • Thursday morning feel good story

    Thursday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from close to the TAH National Headquarters & Resort in West Virginia;

    The suspect entered the Good Family Pharmacy in Kanawha County Tuesday morning wearing a mask.

    “The guy was walking around with a mask on and my pharmacist joked, ‘He must be here to rob us,’” said owner Patrick Good. “Whenever he said that the guy pulled a gun.”

    Good said the would-be thief was probably after prescription pills, but couldn’t confirm that because he didn’t have time to state his demands.

    “The guy pulled the gun and jumped in front of a customer in line and was pointing the gun at the employees,” said Good. “That’s when my guy pulled his gun and shot him three times.”

    The pharmacist on duty had a .45 and fired three shots. The first shot hit the robber in the chest and he went down, but he raised the gun again. The employee, who had a conceal carry permit, fired a second and third shot. One of those hit the suspect’s gun in his hand and the other shot hit him in the abdomen.

    Reports says that the target is in critical condition, easy to believe when he’s been struck by three .45 caliber bullets. Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

  • Wednesday Morning Feel Good Story

    Wednesday Morning Feel Good Story

    Today’s story comes from Oklahoma;

    Police said the suspect confronted the homeowner with the baseball bat. That’s when the homeowner fired three shots at the suspect, who then ran away.

    One neighbor, who lives next to the home that was broken into, spotted a white, older model Volkswagen with a broken window. That neighbor told police it was the first time he has seen that car in the neighborhood.

    Shortly after 7 a.m., police said they received another 911 call from the Bryant Square Apartments. This time, a woman told police that her boyfriend came back to their apartment covered in blood. That apartment complex is located just south of where the home invasion took place.

    Just before 9 a.m., police confirmed with News 9 that the man covered in blood was indeed the suspect shot during the home invasion.

    Mr. Homeowner shot Mr. Criminal three times in the neck and face, but Mr. Criminal is expected to survive according to other reports. Mr. Homeowner needs to get another gun in a larger caliber. Thanks to Chief Tango for the lik as always.

  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    This morning’s story comes from Texas like most of them come from Texas;

    Silva said the homeowner, whose name has not been released, was with his wife in their guest house when they heard a commotion outside. A man, who was later identified as [Kenneth Wayne Shepherd], had climbed over a fence into the couple’s yard and was trying to break into the guest house.

    Silva said the homeowner grabbed a gun and fired two shots at Shepherd, wounding him in the arm and leg. Shepherd then crawled beneath the homeowner’s parked pickup.

    When officers arrived, Silva said, they took Shepherd into custody without incident.

    See how much easier it is for the police to catch them when you hit the target?
