  • More reasoned rhetoric from the CBC

    Representative Corrine Brown, when asked by CNN news person, Brooke Baldwin, if this whole discussion about Traynor Martin is more about race than anything else, Brown claims that she went to a rally in support of a white girl who was murdered in Orange County. When asked the victim’s name, Browne answers “The young girl who was killed” and eventually admits that she doesn’t remember the name, then goes off on an irrelevant tirade about tax cuts and her (and the Congressional Black Caucus’) concern for the “chirrun”;

    To me that’s the equivalent of a white person defending themselves from the charge of racism by announcing that they have a black friend. “I marched for a white girl” once doesn’t mean anything. The name Trayvon Martin is seared into her memory, but not the white girl’s name. That was sent to us by ROS.

    From Old Trooper, a video by some irrelevant turd burglar who writes a cool rap song about starting a riot “All Black in My Hoodie”. You might want to wait until you get home from work before you watch it, if you watch it at all. It’s loud and profane, and I already told what it says.
    (more…)

  • Elevating the tone of the discussion

    Old Trooper sends us a link to Smoking Gun in which they post this picture of T-shirts that went on sale in Florida yesterday which will certainly go a long ways towards calming the situation there over the Trayvon Martin shooting;

    Who do I have to see to get my picture on a shirt like that? I’d get to shoot more criminals if one of you would do me that favor. In a related email, ROS sends us a comment on Facebook from someone who clearly understands the issue;

    If what is being said about Zimmerman having a gun permit is true, I don’t think any state allows a private gun permit to be issued for a semi automatic. Where did he get it? Who sold it? If he was so unstable, who signed off on his permit application? Yes deep rooted fears say that large black men dressed urbanely are dangerous (yet popular culture promotes this fashion and the media says it’s bad) and yes we as Americans have the right to bear arms, but no one should die cuz of their height/weight/fashion sense/race and no one should be approved for a permit or allowed a gun purchase if they could be mentally unstable.

    Yeah, what are you people doing with those semi-automatic handguns, when clearly they’re more dangerous than revolvers. I’m not exactly positive on this, but I think Martin was shot once, and everyone knows that a semi-automatic pistol shoots one round faster than a revolver, right?

    Recent reports I’ve seen are beginning to turn Zimmerman’s way. Police sources are saying that the forensic evidence is supporting Zimmerman’s contention that he was attacked from behind, his injured nose, injuries to the back of his head and grass stains on his back. They also say that Zimmerman was headed in the direction of his SUV when he was attacked.

    Old Trooper wonders why this case which happened at Mississippi State this weekend isn’t receiving this much attention.

  • MSNBC: Cheney “too old” for life saving transplant

    MSNBC has commissioned bioethicist Arthur Caplan Ph.D. to write an opinion piece contending that, considering his politics age, it was unethical for former Vice President Dick Cheney to have received a heart transplant.

    Dick Cheney has just joined a list of high-profile people, including Steve Jobs, Mickey Mantle, Evil Knievel and David Crosby who, received a transplant and thereby created a controversy. Cheney received a heart on Friday from an anonymous donor at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia after a 20-month wait. What is controversial about that? Cheney is 71 years old.

    He has been through numerous previous operations that indicate he has other serious medical problems. He has only been able to survive due to the implantation of a left-ventricular assist device (LVAD) — a partial artificial heart — that has kept him going long past the point where his own heart could have kept him alive.

    Dr. Arthur goes on to say that Cheney has exceeded the “informal” cut off observed by many surgeons…70.

    Lo and behold an actual physician writing for Fox News (gasp!) asserts the exact opposite:

    “I think this was the proper treatment for him,” said Dr. Manny Alvarez, senior managing health editor at FoxNews.com. “After a very long time of chronic health problems, ultimately, his heart needed to be replaced, and this was the only way to do it.”

    Alvarez said Cheney’s overall strong physical health made him a good candidate for a transplant, despite his age.

    “The treatments he had prior to the transplant allowed him to lead a full life,” Alvarez added.

    Of course there was no uproar among these people when it was revealed that Hollywood icon Robert “I’ll move to Paris if Bush wins” Altman both received a heart transplant at the age of 70 and never actually moved to Paris. I guess it’s because he made the “informal” cut off.

    It’s no real big surprise that MSNBC would push such a narrative, it’s red meat for their chronically indignant left-wing audience. It’s less surprising that they’d have their resident UPenn/NYU “bio-ethicist” disingenuously assert such garbage in the form of a rhetorical question (Are Republicans less informed about key issues? A new study by our on-staff left-wing academics offers surprising conclusions!). Of course the collection of motley fools and self-satisfied deconstructionists, collectively known as the field of bioethics, is more than a tad suspect itself. As the always excellent Andrew Ferguson noted in an article at The Weekly Standard last week:

    On the list of the world’s most unnecessary occupations—aromatherapist, golf pro, journalism professor, vice president of the United States?—?that of medical ethicist ranks very high. They are happily employed by pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and other outposts of the vast medical-industrial combine, where their job is to advise the boss to go ahead and do what he was going to do anyway (“Put it on the market!” “Pull the plug on the geezer!”). They also attend conferences where they take turns sitting on panels talking with one another and then sitting in the audience watching panels of other medical ethicists talking with one another. Their professional specialty is the “thought experiment,” which is the best kind of experiment because you don’t have to buy test tubes or leave the office. And sometimes they get jobs at universities, teaching other people to become ethicists. It is a cozy, happy world they live in.

    This article was in reference to another claim uncontroversially floating around the world of bioethics: that infanticide is perfectly ethical. You see, it’s really no different than abortion since the newborn doesn’t have the cognitive capacity to realize it’s being denied anything, were you to kill it. As an added bonus, killing infants can spare the biological parents the lack of emotional closure often associated with adoption.

    EDIT:
    I previously misidentified Robert Altman as Arthur Caplan. Thanks, Ben.

  • “USA” chants racist

    Tman sends us a link from the local TV news in San Antonio which reports that chants of “USA” after a boys’ basketball victory has brought charges of racism. Apparently the losing team was predominately Hispanic.

    “Obviously, we were disappointed that this happened,” Alamo Heights superintendent Kevin Brown, who reportedly apologized to SAISD officials personally, told KENS5. “That’s not who we are as a community and that’s not who we are as a school. It’s not something that’s acceptable for us. Our kids are very respectable. We have to remember that they’re teenagers, and kids make mistakes.

    “Still, there are consequences. We have tried to use this as a teachable moment for them. We have talked to our students. We’ve taken responsibility for it, although what happened is not representative of everybody who was there.”

    I guess my question would be “Is there anything that’s not racist anymore?”

  • Limbaugh’s apology

    So Rush Limbaugh apologized to Sandra Fluke yesterday for calling her a slut and a prostitute. I don’t know why he needed to apologize, I haven’t heard any apologies over the years for calling Sarah Palin names, including “slut”. The Left differentiates their behavior from Rush by explaining that Fluke isn’t a public figure. Well, she did become a public figure the minute she decided to tell Congress how the rest of us taxpayers should have our money spent to subsidize her sexual proclivities.

    But Rush’s apology, as reported by the Washington Post;

    “My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

    So that’s the end of it, right? 75 members of Congress demanded an apology from Rush, so that should satisfy the Left, right? Nope. Michael Moore tweets last night;

    So you remedy one situation of a guy calling a woman a “slut” by calling that guy a “bitch” when he apologizes. Classy, Jabba the Moore.

    The Propagandist calls it a non-apology. The Talking Points Memo says it falls on deaf ears. So why did he even bother?

    The whole situation reminds of the issue we discussed over two years ago when Major General Anthony Cucolo, the commander of Multi-National Division-North, Iraq, decided to make pregnancy in a war zone a violation of command policy and threatened his command with court martials for violating that policy. The Left made it about the right to have sex, while the issue was really about making sound choices. Saying “no” is cheap in my experience.

    So show me in the Constitution where it says Americans have a right to expect the government to fund their sexual activities.

    And where are the apologies for members of Congressman Issa’s staff whom he reports have been abused by his ideological opponents, according to the Washington Times;

    “My staff, particularly female staff, have also been the subject of intense and disgusting accusations and insults — ‘hag,’ ‘traitor,’ and numerous references to anatomy have been among the milder expressions hurled over the phone,” Mr. Issa wrote.

    Also, according to the Washington Times, Fluke’s whole point was moot, because according to Georgetown spokeswoman, Stacy Kerr, although the University requires students to have healthcare insurance, they’re free to make a choice and purchase other health insurance outside of the University’s policy which could include birth control. But there’s that pesky word “choice” again.

  • A paper only an LT could write

    1st Lt Daniel Durbin, or Butter Bar Duh-Duh-Durbey who had the decency to wait six more months to get promoted, explains in this editorial why newly minted Marines are simply too stupid to be released into the wild. But don’t let me tell you. Let him do the leg work:

    The School of Infantry East (SOI-E) administratively separated more than 150 new Marines in fiscal year 2011 for a myriad of disciplinary and medical reasons. Many of these medical and legal issues occurred over recruit leave. There is a travesty happening right now in the Marine Corps, but nothing is being done about it. Every year, the Marine Corps loses several hundreds of Marines to drugs, legal issues, and injuries during a single 10-day period—recruit leave.

    Yes sir, according to Duh-Duh-Durbey the Marine Corps administratively separates “about” 150 boots each year between Bootcamp and graduating Infantry School or Marine Combat Training East (both administered by the School of Infantry). In other words, using rather flush numbers from the Iraq surge years and accounting for the SOI-West as well, the Marines separate less than .013% of their annual recruits in this period. That’s right, .013%. A crisis if you will. Duh-Duh-Durbey describes the terrible plight of the plebian enlisted man as such:

    …every year the Marine Corps sends thousands of young men and women home from recruit training back into the situations they were coming from. Many of these Marines have joined the Marine Corps to escape these dark situations and make a new life for themselves as Marines. But after a mere 12 weeks, we send them back into the home life they were trying to get away from.

    Considering the demographic horror myself and most of my fellow enlisted Marines barely manged to escape in order to reach the life raft that is a Marine Corps recruiting office it’s a miracle more of us didn’t succumb to our imploding situation in the Delayed Entry Program. It’s a flat out anomaly any of us escaped our alcoholic foster parents long enough to get out of the trailer park to meet up with the other hood rat Poolies our recruiters manged to save from the wreckage of lower class America.

    Not to say that the LT doesn’t empathize:

    Do not think that I am trying to denigrate the incredible change a Marine experiences from the yellow footprints to graduation from recruit training; this is one of the most formative experiences in any person’s life.

    Thanks, sir.

    Of course that empathy allows Duh-Duh-Durbey to so succinetly diagnose the base enlisted man’s real problem:

    However, the recruit training experience is only 3 months long. When these young, impressionable Marines return home on leave, the old bad habits are there waiting for them. Additionally, Marines who go on recruit leave are often swayed by the boyfriend or girlfriend back home who missed them so much, and they just can’t bear the thought of losing that once-in-a-lifetime relationship. These Marines return from recruit leave and simply refuse to train. Marines in this category are often processed for administrative separation.

    Damn Josie, every time.

    No fears though, Lt. Duh-Duh-Durbey has the answer:

    The solution is incredibly simple. Put an end to recruit leave! This change would have the added benefit of enforcing the training mindset that is desperately needed. When the Marines return home, they are certainly proud of the accomplishment of becoming Marines, but they lose that vital training mindset. They get comfortable.

    I propose that new Marines who graduate from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego or Parris Island hop on a bus and continue training at SOI. After SOI graduation, they then drop to their MOS schools or for infantry Marines to the Operating Forces. This will maintain continuity for a single drop of Marines to their MOS schools or Operating Forces units.

    I won’t go on to quote the whole pile of crap this idiot foisted on the Marine Corps Gazette, you can follow the link yourself if you’re into such self-flagellation. I will though say that the next time the good Lt finds himself being instructed how to run a convoy, keep two aircraft apart, fill out a clearance request, construct a fixed firing position, replace a rotor screw or do any of the million things he’s grossly unqualified to do, it would behoove him to stop and thank his lucky stars.

    After all, that simple minded idiot with the Sgt’s chevrons who manged to survive the period in their lives inbetween mom & pop’s and the blessed period of mentorship from some retard with a degree from Party School State University and The Basic School Corps, hasn’t yet tripped over his own dick and screwed up the whole Marine Corps. Thanks for keeping your eye on the ball, sir!

    People like Durbin, the grasping morons desperate to make a name for themselves, are the reason while enlisted personnel hate officers. Most Marines don’t trust officers because of the the ignorant fools like Durbin, and they assign that mentality to the rest of the shiny collared folk. As long as good officers tolerate peers like Durbin their job will only be harder. So I’ll pass on to the Marine Corps Officer Corps what I’ve heard many a Company Grade Officer pass onto me: police your own, gents.

  • Limbaugh’s sex problem

    I don’t listen to Rush…I have a job, well a couple of jobs if you count this thing I do here. But, Politico writes that 75 Congressional voices have been raised to defend college student, Sandra Fluke who claimed to Congress that her sexual activities may sink her budget while she’s in law school at Georgetown. Congressmen apparently have no other function these days than to defend excessively sexually active law students, what with the economy in such great shape and gas prices falling precipitously.

    Fluke claimed that her birth control bill for three years of law school may be $3000. Really? That’s about what I pay for three years of property taxes, more or less. I don’t think my pr0n [sic] bill is anywhere near $1000/year.

    Limbaugh might be right in this case, as he’s called her a slut and demanded that if she thinks that the government should pay for her birth control, she should post her sexual activities on line so we can observe how our tax dollars are spent.

    The whole thing is, if she’s worried about paying so much for her birth control, maybe she should cut back on her sexual activities and focus on her law school studies. I’m pretty sure her parents sent her to law school to study and not screw her brains out. But I’m just guessing…who knows what is in parents’ heads these days.

  • Not His Fault? The Army Made Him Do it!

    That’s the excuse his defense team has been using.  Now we get to see how it stands up in Court.

    This is news to few here at TAH… but it IS new that it is finally moving out of the court of public opinion.

    Bradley Manning to Face All Charges in Court-Martial

    WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning is headed for a general court-martial, according to the commander of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington in an announcement released late Friday.

    Maj. Gen. Michael Linnington, the general convening authority for the district, made the determination that Manning will face all 22 charges leveled against him, include aiding the enemy, wrongfully causing intelligence to be published on the internet knowing that it is accessible to the enemy, theft of public property or records, transmitting defense information, and fraud and related activity in connection with computers.

    The most serious charge — aiding the enemy — carries a possible death penalty. Prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty. Instead, Manning faces life in prison if convicted of all the charges.

    There seems to be no/zero/nil doubt that he did what he’s accused of.  The peripheral  dog and pony show and other fancy dancing should be entertaining.
