    Phony cops

    Andy11M sends us a link to a really strange story about these folks (above) who had formed a phony police department that claimed jurisdiction in 33 states and Mexico. They also say that their police department, the Masonic Fraternal Police Department, traces it’s roots back to the Templar Knights.

    However, [LA County sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole] Nishida said there were no indications the group was stopping the public or conducting other law enforcement activities.

    State records show [Tonette] Hayes is licensed as a security guard and has a firearm permit. She previously owned Masonic Security Service, and she and Henry run the Beverly Hills-based MIB Investigative Agency, though its state license is suspended.

    [David] Henry is a licensed security guard and also has a firearm permit.

    [Brandon] Kiel, 31, worked as deputy director of community affairs at the California Department of Justice since July 2013. He has been on paid administrative leave from his $67,416-a-year civil service job since Thursday. The Los Angeles Times first reported that Kiel worked for Harris.

    Police became suspicious when they received a press release announcing a leadership change in the phony cop shop which claims more than 5,000 lodges. I guess when they raided the homes of the three phony cops, they found uniforms and badges, But, I don’t see why everyone is so upset at them – they’re only expressing themselves – protected by the First Amendment.

  • Tim Mak on Wounded Warrior Project

    I’ve stayed out of the controversy over that charity called the Wounded Warrior Project – mostly because it takes too much time to do the research and to verify all of the claims that they make and folks make about them. So I just sat on the side lines and waited for someone like Tim Mak to come along and do the heavy lifting so I can ride his coat tails. Tim has been on WWP like Oprah on a ham for over a year. This week at the Daily Beast he takes them on again for outspending other charities that have the temerity to use the phrase “wounded warrior” in their titles. The most egregious story, to me, anyway is this one;

    Retired Col. John Folsom formed “Wounded Warriors” in 2003 while he was stationed in Landstuhl, Germany, and is a 30-year veteran of the Marine Corps. He has argued that his group, which currently receives four stars on Charity Navigator, was granted non-profit status before WWP was.

    Their organization has spent, in Folsom’s estimation, over $300,000 in legal fees to defend themselves from the Wounded Warrior Project over a protracted, five year process. Folsom’s organization eventually lost the lawsuit and were forced to change their name to “Wounded Warrior Family Support,” on the grounds that they were benefitting from the Wounded Warrior Project’s national advertising. The smaller group had to pay $1.7 million to WWP.

    “It was very derogatory… [the Wounded Warrior Project’s lawyers] argued that John’s program was a scheme, that it was fraudulent, that he had benefitted from the wonderful advertisements of the Wounded Warrior Projects, to scam the public,” said Woody Bradford, a former “Wounded Warriors” board member who represented the group in court.

    Folsom didn’t even want to talk about the lawsuit, saying that he would lose his temper if he spoke about it on the record.

    I’ve heard that executives of WWP pay themselves astronomical salaries and that less and less of their “take” goes towards the veterans that they purport to serve. One of the reasons that I haven’t piled on to WWP is because of the work they did for veterans, but that seems to be lacking these days, too.

    Mak points out that “wounded warrior” isn’t the sole domain of WWP;

    The Army has a Wounded Warrior Program. A band at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is called the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band.

    And the Marine Corps’ own battalion…their unit for service members who have been wounded is called the Wounded Warrior Regiment

    I’ve had some experience with bullies lately and I don’t like them.

    “They’ve tried to go after every organization with ‘wounded warrior’ and bully them,” said the head of one veterans charity, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he didn’t want his group to be targeted.

    If Mak’s work is true, I don’t think I like WWP. But you should read the whole thing.

    Daniel Norby; a different kind of imposter

    daniel.norby

    One of our ninjas sent us a link to the story of Daniel Norby, an imposter who needed a ride – and 20 bucks.

    Edward Jern in Washington State was directed by the folks at his local DMV to wait outside for the examiner who would give him his driving test. Eventually “Dave” came out and introduced himself to the fellow taking the test. They got in the car and the examiner directed him on a route that took them to the local casino, where “Dave” got out and invited Jern to accompany him. Later he bummed 20 bucks from the confused fellow.

    The local media reports that “Dave” was actually Daniel Norby;

    The Central Police Department told the website that the strange sequence of events started at the Washington Department of Licensing on Kresky Avenue in Centralia.

    An employee said a man resembling Norby was standing in line behind Jerns at one point and then she saw them go out and get into Jerns’ car.

    The website said police and prosecutors offered no explanation why Norby allegedly pretended he was giving a driving test.

    They don’t need an explanation – he was merely exercising his constitutional right to freedom of expression. It was a victimless crime, so they should release him.

  • Fish in a parachute

    Fish in a parachute

    Tattersoll

    Apparently, this is a thing – Specialist Matthew Tattersall of the 2d Battalion 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment took his pet fish on his last parachute jump with him and his commanders are not amused, according to the Army Times;

    “The way I see it, if you do the crime, you’d better be willing to do the time,” Tattersall said. “They certainly, if they absolutely wanted to, the punishment could have been far worse, so I’m not upset about anything. I understand that there were going to be consequences for it.”

    Tattersall, who had already written a 1,000-word essay about the importance of airborne safety and professionalism in the Army, also could be bumped down to E-3 if he breaks any more Army regulations.

    “If I make one mistake, they take my rank,” he said. “They tossed me a bone when it comes to not taking my rank.”

    His problem stemmed from the fact that he took a selfie over the drop zone with his pet and posted it to social media.

    We had this guy in our platoon in the 82d by the name of Billy Owens. He had a stuffed King Kong gorilla that was probably 20 inches high and posed in the classic King Kong manner – you, know, the upraised arms. Well, Billy wanted Kong to get a jump in, so he packed the toy on the top of his ruck and tied an artillery flare parachute to old Kong, so when Billy exited the aircraft, he got Kong out of his ruck and tossed him free. Well, artillery flare parachutes aren’t always cooperative, so poor Kong streamered in. But the safety folks on the ground thought that Kong was a real paratrooper and they yelled at the poor dumb monkey to “pull your reserve”. Kong hit with a loud thud – ambulances and safeties rushed to the scene of Kong’s impact only to discover that it wasn’t a real jumper, but a toy. Owens owned up to the trick and he’s probably still out on Sicily Drop Zone trying to push it to main post. But there was no social media and no cell phone cameras, so the push ups were the only punishment inflicted on poor PFC Owens.

    So the lesson, I suppose is to keep your antics off of the internet, guys.

    CNN’s Brooke Baldwin; Military Veterans caused Baltimore riots

    Someone sent us a link to Breitbart which reports that this ditz, Brook Baldwin blamed military veterans for the violence last night in Baltimore because…reasons!

    [S]he said of young military veterans who become police officers, “I love our nation’s veterans, but some of them are coming back from war, they don’t know the communities, and they are ready to do battle.”

    The context was a discussion about increased training and retraining for the Baltimore police.

    Yeah, she loves veterans. Most of the veterans I know are tired of the battle. That’s why they come home. It’s just CNN and their morons trying to take whacks at veterans and the troops because folks who sacrifice for military service enjoy so much support in the country. But the stank ass hippies don’t like the fact that they can’t spit on veterans any more.

    She should go to Panama City where she can find some support among the Spring Breaker frat brothers.

    I’d point out to the little idiot that 15 police officers were injured last night in Baltimore, the mayor and the governor decided that it was uniformed National Guardsmen who could solve the problem that the actual culpable parties had created. Ditz.

    This is what passes for an apology in her world

    Brooke, you’re a twit. Don’t misunderstand me. That’s just a concern vocalized to me lately.

    Some Twitter updates;

    And she has a valor thief to defend her;

  • James Deon Korfhage and Karma

    James Deon Korfhage and Karma

    James Deon Korfhage arrest

    I got a call this morning from the Georgia Department of Probation. The gentleman who called me said that our old friend James Deon Kofhage had been picked up by the Department of Homeland Security. He said that while trying to locate Mr. Korfhage’s family, he ran across the links to our posts about him here and especially here, you know, when he called me back in September and threatened to come and kill me. I guess he’s hitching a ride with a certain purple-suited trail assassin who has been “comething” for years now.

    I’m not sure what the charges are, the fellow who called couldn’t tell me, but apparently that phone call that Deon made to me is going to end up biting him in the ass in his latest troubles, because the judge responsible for setting his bail is going to be hearing about it. This link implies that his recent troubles have something to do with immigration.

    Anyway, I know that Korfhage’s family members read TAH (they’ve contacted me privately to thank me for the post) but the Department of Probation would like to talk to you. Call me or email me and I can give you the gentleman’s name and phone number. I guess James wasn’t being cooperative with authorities and didn’t want them to contact you.

    But, this is not my shocked face that someone pretending to be a Ranger with only 21 days in the National Guard was arrested. Stolen Valor is just part of pathology.

  • Baltimore; space to destroy

    Baltimore; space to destroy

    Baltimore

    I guess the news for today is that parts of Baltimore suffered from looting and mindless destruction yesterday requiring the mayor of the Charm City, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, to finally ask the governor to declare a state of emergency after waiting for days. According to most witnesses, it was high school-aged thugs that began the destruction, but as the violence escalated, others flocked to the scene to take advantage of the chaos to do their Spring shopping, like the fellow in the picture above triumphantly displaying his booty.

    There was a large march of the religious community leaders in the early hours of the rioting and looting, but I can’t find any pictures of that, only pictures of the criminals. Late last night, one of my best friends for years, an African-American living in Baltimore, called to tell me that not everyone in Baltimore was acting a fool. This morning he tells me that it’s all so embarrassing to him and his neighbors. He could see the flames from his house. He also told me that he contemplated coming to my house and sign out some weapons from the TAH Arms Room.

    Baltimore clergy2

    Baltimore clergy

    But, the mayor told the media yesterday that she had given the criminals “space to destroy”, and I guess that statement wasn’t very encouraging to the peaceful citizens of Baltimore. Governor Larry Hogan activated the Maryland National Guard last night and just that announcement reduced the amount of thuggery. From the New York Times;

    Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency, and the Maryland State Police, who took command of the response, said they would ask for 5,000 law enforcement officials from the mid-Atlantic region to help quell the violence. Some National Guard units were to arrive on Monday night, with others deploying on Tuesday in armored Humvees.

    In Washington, Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch, on her first day on the job, briefed President Obama, who in turn called Governor Hogan. Mr. Hogan said the president urged him to have law enforcement officers exercise restraint, and he assured the president they would. “But,” the governor added, “I assured him we weren’t going to stand by and allow our city of Baltimore to be taken over by thugs.”

    I guess the mayor should have asked for the governor’s help first instead of announcing that the toilet paper thieves had room to destroy portions of her city.

  • Nicki; Searching for justice

    Our buddy, Nicki, bumped up against the Virginia justice system recently when she tried to boot some derelicts out of the house that she rented to them. I’ll let her tell the story;

    They’ve been renting from me since November 2013. At first, they paid 6 months in advance, and there were no problems, but as time went on, they started paying rent progressively later and later. My property manager didn’t evict them, even though he had every right to if they didn’t pay by the 5th of the month, but they did eventually pay – even though it was late.

    In September of last year, I got a call from Mike (my property manager), and he said he was really concerned, because they just didn’t pay. If I didn’t get that money, I would default on my mortgage. I pay $2600 for rent out here in Arlington, plus approximately $1600 for my mortgage. If I had to pay both, that would be the majority of my takehome pay for the month, so it was absolutely critical that they paid.

    After a couple of months of this, and one month where I actually WAS late paying the mortgage, because they only paid part of their rent, I finally decided to sell the house. I met with them and Mike, as well as my realtor. I explained the situation to them – that this was a financial hardship for me, and that I had to sell the home. I told them they were welcome to stay until I sold the house, but asked them to make sure it was in a condition to show well.

    That didn’t happen. They literally sabotaged showings. My realtor would text them and tell them he had a showing scheduled at a particular date/time. They would either not reply, or complain that the agent showed up late, or that the time wasn’t good for them. They sabotaged an open house. They were asked to leave for a few hours and have the place in presentable condition. They instead hid in the basement and presented a cluttered home. The last showing I had, they basically blocked the entrance to the kitchen, so the prospective buyer couldn’t get in, let their dogs loose in the house, and one of them ran up to the buyer and the agent, squatted right in front of them and pissed on my floor.

    They were given a termination letter in February giving them two months to move. They called me at the end of March and asked for an extra few days. The wife begged, told me they just needed a few days, told me they were moving in with her daughter and putting stuff in storage. I believed them. I had Mike draw up a legal order giving them until April 5 – this was the date they had asked for in the first place – for them to sign, guaranteeing that they would be out of my house, and that they would pay for the days they stayed there. At that point they cut off all communication, and after a week or so, sent Mike an email basically telling him that they didn’t find a place, had no other place to go, and they’d be out when they’re good and ready. And sorry for the inconvenience.” That entire message is in that first link.

    At this point, we petitioned the court for immediate eviction and possession of my home. A sheriff’s deputy delivered the notice telling them to either vacate or show up in court on April 23.

    In court, Mike told the judge that they’d been given a termination more than two months ago, that they hadn’t paid the rent for April, and that I wanted possession of my home. The Coopers told the judge that they deserved to stay there, and lied and told them that they paid a $2400 security deposit, probably hoping the judge would just allow that deposit to be used in lieu of rent. That’s illegal in Virginia, AND they only paid a $1600 security deposit, but the judge either didn’t know this, or didn’t care.

    Our initial petition requested that I get immediate possession of the home and that they be forced to pay April rent since they stayed there for free the entire month. The judge told them to pay April, and instead of giving me possession of my house, set a trial date – nearly THREE MONTHS later. Not only that, but he didn’t require them to pay rent for May, June, or July. He said that since we only requested April, they could just stay there until the July 9 trial date. Free. At my expense, apparently, because someone has to pay the mortgage.

    The courts have no patience for people who follow the law and since property owners are hamstrung by the so-called justice system to protect that which they own, courts are skewed against them. That’s why “the damn rent is too high”. Property owners have to mitigate their risk to their capital when they allow people to live on their property by charging higher rent and there’s basically no relief for them in the court system except by spending more money for lawyers and being forced by the court system to loan their sole investment with no return in sight on that investment.

    Nicki says that she’s lost hope and I really don’t blame her. On top of the fact that she may end up in bankruptcy and that she may lose her job because of this, most of us have believed in the system that is supposed to reward those of us who play by the rules, but it never seems to do that simple thing that it was designed to do.

    Judges feel better about themselves when they succeed in perpetuating criminal behavior at the expense of the innocent victims, for some reason.
