  • About That Clinton “Private E-Mail” . . .

    . . . well, it appears that someone’s “got some s’plainin’ to do”.

    A former member of the Intel Community discusses what was allegedly found in that “private e-mail” here.  The article is IMO worthwhile reading.

    This one might be worth watching.  It appears extremely likely that a serious, deliberate mishandling of classified information occurred.  The key question will be whether DoJ decides to do anything meaningful.

  • Kelli Bordeaux’s murderer sentenced

    Kelli Bordeaux’s murderer sentenced

    Kelli Bordeaux

    Jon the Mechanic sends a link to the news that Nicholas Michael Holbert pleaded guilty to the beating death of Fort Bragg medic Kelli Bordeaux three years ago in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Holbert accepted the life sentence to avoid the death penalty;

    Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West said in court that Bordeaux was estranged from her husband in April 2012 and was dating someone from her native Florida when they met Holbert at Froggy Bottoms. After her boyfriend returned to Florida, she and Holbert went to the bar for an evening of pool, karaoke and drinking.

    Sometime during the evening, Bordeaux became aware the Holbert is a registered sex offender, West said. When they left the bar together in the early hours of April 14, 2012, Holbert asked if they could spend more time together, and Bordeaux rebuffed his advances with a “derogatory comment about him being a sex offender,” West said.

    Holbert then punched her, knocking her out, dragged her to his car and drove her to a makeshift camp behind the bar where he lived, West said. When Bordeaux came to, she started screaming, and Holbert “beat her until she stopped screaming, stopped moving,” the prosecutor said.

    The following morning, Holbert drove into some woods near Eastover and buried Bordeaux.

    Her body was discovered two years later.

  • Guy Biggs sentenced

    Guy Biggs sentenced

    Guy Biggs

    We talked about Guy Biggs from Henry County, Tennessee, about a month ago when he pleaded guilty to plotting to lure his wife to her death. He used some fabricated stories and documents about his military experience as mitigating circumstances for his murder plot. The district attorney and the sheriff’s department did their due diligence and declared him a valor thief.

    Well, yesterday he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the attempted murder, and the sheriff says that Biggs will be arraigned on the charges for the false documents and lies that he told the judge on Thursday.

  • Phony ripping off soldiers near Fort Sill

    Someone dropped off a link on our Facebook page about a fellow pretending to be a soldier in the area of Fort Sill, Oklahoma to scam troops. His story changes. Sometimes he’s a transient soldier who needs money for gas or a taxi to the Fort Sill Welcome Center or he needs money to get his truck out of the impound lot;

    On two occasions he has mentioned winning a jackpot at the casino, but needs the victim to pay the taxes. He will usually keep this going for three to four days before the service member catches on that he will not be paying the money back.

    Even his rank changes depending on who he is talking to at the time, so that he out-ranks his target.

    Police say his victims are always service members, none have been civilians.

    […]

    The man always promises to pay back the money, mentioning that his wife is not yet in the area and that she will send the victim money via Western Union.

    Of course, it’s an old story. I’m sure we can all tell tales of being ripped off by civilians while we were trying to be helpful;

    The description provided by police is a black male, approximately 37 years of age, 5’8” and 150 pounds. He has very short cut hair with a receded hairline, brown hair and brown eyes. His first name is Willie

    Please be advised and watch out for this individual as the man’s cover story is not true; he is not in the military and has not been in quite some time.

  • An IRS Scandal Update

    Remember Lois Lerner? You know, that former IRS Executive who appears to have overseen the IRS’s politically-biased treatment of nonprofits – the one where conservative groups faced roadblocks while liberal ones got priority consideration?

    It’s been a while since TAH had an article about the IRS.  So here’s an update.

    I’m not going to rehash past articles here.  If you need or would like a refresher, use the site’s search features with the search string “Lerner IRS email” (no quotes necessary).  There are a number of articles, so allow some time to read them; I’d recommend a 15-30 min.

    1.  We now have a good idea of what happened to her hard drive. Yes, it indeed appears to have been destroyed – apparently on 16 April 2012.

    2.  The drive appears to have quit working between 5PM and 7PM in Lerner’s office on Saturday, 11 June 2011.  Reputedly, a forensic technician examined it prior to destruction and found scoring on the top platter, likely due to an impact.  The laptop itself showed no sign of damage.  Data recovery was not attempted at the time.

    3.  It turns out that the IRS also had another system available for internal communications – a system on which messages were NOT at the time archived, and which was known to have been available for use (and used by personnel from) by the IRS division Lerner headed.   That system was Microsoft’s Office Communications Server, or OCS – an instant messaging (chat) system.

    4.  We also nave this quite interesting email from Lerner about email and instant messaging use.  From the link in item 3 above:

    However, in an email uncovered by the Committee Lerner warns her colleagues about evading Congressional oversight:

    “I was cautioning folks about email and how we have had several occasions where Congress has asked for emails and there has been an electronic search for responsive emails – so we need to be cautious about what we say in emails.”

    Lerner then asks whether OCS is automatically archived. When informed it was not, Lerner responded “Perfect.”

    5.  Finally, documents from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, when the IRS looked for Lerner’s 24,000 “missing” emails from 2009-2011 . . . the initial search was quite obviously less than thorough and comprehensive.  Five out of six possible locations for the missing data apparently were not initially searched.

    6. Oh, and GAO says that it’s possible the IRS may still be targeting conservative nonprofit groups.

    . . .

    Yeah, it looks to me like there might just be s a damn good reason Lerner “took the Fifth” when she was subpoenaed to testify before Congress about this.  Concerning the activities described and linked above . . . well, for some reason the terms “obstruction” and “stonewall” keep coming to mind.

    But maybe that’s just me.

    That’s the latest from the “Most Transparent Administration in History.”  Wonder what’s next?

  • Kacie Breen and her husband’s stolen valor

    Kacie Breen and her husband’s stolen valor

    Kacie Breen

    Nathan sends us a link to the story out of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana of Kacie Breen and her husband, obstetrician Wayne Breen. Ms. Breen ventilated her husband with a handgun when he choked her. Her side of the story of the March 1st events goes like this;

    Wayne Breen was furious, his hand pressed against his wife Kacie’s throat, her back flush against her SUV in the couple’s garage. His rage, which she had seen many times before, was volcanic. So, at least, Kacie Breen says.

    Moments before, he had vowed that he would never let her leave, especially not with the couple’s 7-year-old son.

    Fighting for breath and fearing for her life, she says, she reached down in the car door pocket, where she kept a 9mm pistol for protection. She raised it and fired. He jumped back before lunging at her anew.

    She fired again. This time, Wayne Breen dropped to the ground, where his life ebbed out of him as his wife administered CPR and frantically urged first responders to hurry.

    According to Kacie Breen, the reason he was so angry was because she knew the truth about the lies he had been telling about his military career, and if the truth got out, Wayne Breen would lose standing in his community as a result.

    The spark that set her husband off March 1, according to the filing, was his admission that for years he had lied about having served in the Vietnam war. Breen admitted to his wife that, despite earlier claims, he had never served in combat in Vietnam, an experience he previously claimed had resulted in post-traumatic stress disorder.

    Wayne Breen “feared that (Kacie Breen’s) knowledge of his charade would leak out, and that she would end the marriage and fight for their son’s custody and protection,” Ducote says in the filing.

    Such an admission could lead to an “unraveling” of Wayne Breen’s personal and professional life, something he could not allow, the filing says.

    She found that he had fathered a child out-of-wedlock and as a result began to mistrust him and had him sign a SF-180 to request his military records from the National Personnel Records Center.

    But, you know, Stolen Valor is a victimless crime. By the way, for all of you budding valor thieves, a lot of our tips come from ex-wives – so if you have one (and chances are that you do), you really shouldn’t pretend about your military service.

  • Neal Falls; Serial Killer?

    Neal Falls; Serial Killer?

    Neal Falls

    The other day, reader “Ohio” sent us a “Feel Good Story” about a woman who shot her attacker in Charleston, West Virginia in her home. They had met on a dating website, but when he got to her home, he brandished a weapon and tried to choke her to death, until she got control of the gun and shot him over her shoulder without aiming or even looking at him and rang his bell with a lucky shot.

    Well, according to West Virginia MetroNews, in a link sent to us by OWB, the man, Neal Falls now may be connected to a series of similar murders in Las Vegas;

    Police are investigating whether a man fatally shot in self-defense by a prostitute he tried to strangle last weekend in Charleston could be linked to the murder of four Las Vegas-area prostitutes.

    According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, 45-year-old Neal Falls of Oregon has been linked to the deaths of four young women: Lindsay Harris, 21, Jodi Brewer, 19, Jessica Foster 21, and Misty Saens, 25.

    According to the article, police found handcuffs, bleach, trash bags, knives, an ax and a bulletproof vest in the trunk of Neal’s car leading them to believe that he’d done that sort of thing in the past which brought them to the Las Vegas murders.

    neal-main

    Three of the Las Vegas-area women—Harris, Brewer and Saens—were found dead near highways. Foster has yet to be located.

    Las Vegas police spokesman Michael Rodriguez told the Review-Journal the department hasn’t yet been contacted about Falls, but a connection between him and the four Vegas women is possible.

    Yet another reason to feel good about the story.

  • John Russel Houser; another gun free zone killer

    John Russel Houser; another gun free zone killer

    Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson

    Two women. Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson, were murdered last night at a theater in Lafayette, Louisiana by a career criminal, John Russel Houser during a showing of “Trainwreck”. According to eyewitnesses, he sat quietly through about 20 minutes of the movie and then stood up and began blasting away at the approximately one hundred movie goers. A quick-thinking employee heard the shots and pulled the fire alarm evacuating the theaters. When police arrived, Houser tried to blend in with the crowd and when that plan fell apart, he killed himself – which is what he should have done first.

    According to Yahoo News, the 59-year-old was living in a hotel room where police found wigs and glasses that he could use as a disguise. His ex-wife says that he was nutty and that she had removed all of the firearms from their home out of fear.

    Houser had been arrested several times from 10 to 15 years ago on various charges, including arson, selling alcohol to a minor and speeding, according to the AP.

    Jim Mustian, a journalist for the New Orleans Advocate, citing a local sheriff, said that Houser was denied a pistol permit in 2006 in Russell County, Ala.

    Of course, he was also an adherent to “Tea Party-radical Republican views”, but he also embraced “fascist and neo-Nazi ideologies” according to research from the SPLC. He once expressed an admiration for Adolph Hitler.

    Elsewhere, on the U.S. Message Board, a political discussion forum, he wrote, “Hitler accomplished far more than any other through ‘pragmatically forming.’”

    Yeah, I don’t know what that means, but Houser was nuts, so who cares?

    But, I guess we need to find out why these career criminals still buy weapons when everyone knows that’s illegal…and then they commit crimes, which are also illegal. When are they going to start respecting our “gun free zones” like the Grand Theater in Lafayette, Louisiana? Don’t they know that gun free zones mean that they can’t take their guns in there? If only the government could write laws that the criminals respect.
