    Brandon Hurley; phony cop arrested

    One of our ninjas sent us a link to the story of Brandon Hurley who was arrested for impersonating a cop in Louisville, Kentucky. Hurley picked a vehicle to pull over which turned out to be driven by an off-duty police officer;

    Brandon Hurley, 24, did a U-turn and pulled up behind a vehicle driven by an off-duty officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department on Saturday night. Hurley began flashing his lights and honking his horn to get the officer to pull over, authorities said.

    “The officer passed the defendant. The defendant then did a U-turn in the road and got behind affiant’s vehicle,” Judge Sean Delahanty said. “That’s just some bad luck there.”

    The off-duty officer pulled over, thinking Hurley needed help. But Hurley approached the vehicle and asked the driver if he knew he had hit a curb and how fast he was going, WLKY reports.

    Officials said Hurley identified himself as a Jefferson County officer when the off-duty cop asked for identification. Hurley said he didn’t have his badge and was confused when the driver identified himself as a police officer. When the real cop asked for his badge number, Hurley quickly got back in his car and sped off in the other direction.

    The off-duty officer wrote down Hurley’s license plate number which officers used to find him. Also, the off-duty officer remembered Hurley from his high school class.

Both Joann and Linda tell KARE 11 Investigates they feel vindicated by the federal charges. They ask that their last names not be used to protect their privacy.

    “Validated, vindicated,” said Linda of Woodbury. “It makes you feel like it’s not all in your head.” “Not crazy,” added Joann.

    KARE 11 first exposed Alldred a year ago, tracking down victims across the country.

  • Elizabeth Honig sentenced

    Elizabeth Honig sentenced

    Earlier this year, we talked about Elizabeth Honig who admitted in court that she managed to rip off the VA to the tune of about $2.8 million when she enrolled veteran students in her school, despite the fact most of them weren’t eligible to study at the Computer Insight Learning Center.

    Well, according to NJ.com, she was sentenced this week;

    The owner of a computer training school program in Monmouth County was sentenced Monday to two years in prison for stealing $2.8 million from a federally funded program for veterans.

    Elizabeth Honig, 52, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, previously pleaded guilty to theft of government funds.

    Honig was also ordered to pay $2,831,455 in restitution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said Monday. She will be subject to three years of supervised released after completing her prison stint.

    I’ll be over here holding my breath until she coughs up the 3 million bucks.

  • ‘Don’t let strippers in your house’

    Andy11M sends us a link to a story about Billy Swaggerty in Kokomo, Indiana who should have listened to his wife when she told him not to let a stripper spend the night in their home. This stripper had a husband who was in jail at the time. When he got out, they broke into Swaggerty’s home and stole his guns – and the safes that they were stored in;

    “I had probably three .22 rifles, two shotguns, numerous pistols, I had an SKS which is .762 millimeter, I had an AK 74 which is a .554 millimeter and I had an AR 15 which I just got for Christmas which is a .556 millimeter,” said Swaggerty, who estimated his guns were worth $10,000.

    While the guns were locked in safes, the cabinets were constructed of thin steel and were not secured to the floor meaning two people would be able to move them.

    “It wasn’t just her and they better brought a truck because they didn’t put them in a car,” said Haggerty, who found tire tracks in his side yard after the theft.

    I don’t think he knows what he had, those are odd calibers.

    “Word is is that she went to her drug dealer and sold my guns for $450,” said Swaggerty, who has the name of the suspected purchaser. “My worst fear is one of my guns is gonna kill a child.”

    I’m sure that the stripper gave the money to her local church.

    The Williamsburg police and fire departments responded to what was initially reported as a car fire, Riley said.

    However, after police and fire units arrived, they determined the cause of the explosion to be an improvised explosive device that was detonated, Riley said.

    The Williamsburg police is investigating the incident with help from the Williamsburg Fire Department, Colonial Williamsburg Public Safety, Newport News Police, Virginia State Police, as well as the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Riley said.

  • Colonel Michael Shawn Garrett convicted

    Colonel Michael Shawn Garrett convicted

    We talked about Air National Guard Colonel Michael Shawn Garrett when he was arrested last Spring while he was attempting to meet with what he thought was a 14-year-old boy for sex in Panama City, Florida. Stars & Stripes reports that he was convicted yesterday.

    Air Force Col. Michael Shawn Garrett, 45, arranged to meet with an undercover police officer who he believed was a 14-year-old boy to engage in sexual activity, according to evidence U.S. attorneys presented during a two-day trial in Panama City, Justice Department spokeswoman Amy Alexander said Wednesday in a prepared statement.

    Garrett is set to be sentenced Jan. 11. He faces at least 10 years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment without parole.

    Ten years ain’t enough. Apparently the conversation Garret had with the person he thought was a 14-year-old boy lasted for 90 minutes and Garret was explicit in what his intentions were with this minor child.

    Garrett is assigned to the 101st Air and Space Operations Group at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, according to the Air Force. He has served in Air Force since 1991 and was assigned to Tyndall since 2015.

    I guess “don’t ask, don’t tell” didn’t work.

  • Floyd R. May; kidnapper charged

    Floyd R. May; kidnapper charged

    The other day, we mentioned Floyd R. May of Moline, Illinois in our feel good stories when he kidnapped a woman and she ended up shooting him at her first opportunity. According to Quad-Cities Online he’s been charged;

    Floyd R. May, 61 , Moline, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery with a weapon in relation to that case, according to Rock Island County court records.

    Two other charges — unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated assault — were related to separate incident in which Mr. May allegedly threatened a man with a knife.

    I’m only mentioning the story because the dude should have been locked up a long time ago, just for looking felonious. I’ll bet there are some bodies buried in his basement, too.
