  • 2 Buildings in NYC collapse

    From NBC New York

    The two five-story buildings at the northwest corner of 116th Street and Park Avenue in Harlem collapsed around 9:30 a.m., sources tell NBC 4 New York. More than a dozen are injured.

  • Another Chinese knife attack

    Kunming Station

    The Washington Times reports that 27 people are dead and another 109 are injured at the Kunming Railway Station in Yunnan province. All that damage from a group of men with knives. Luckily there were some good guys with guns or it could have been worse;

    Local television station K6 says that several of the attackers were shot by police and that victims were being transported to local hospitals.

    Photos circulating online showed scattered luggage and bodies lying on the floor in blood.

    The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear, but China has seen a number of mass stabbings and other attacks carried out by people bearing grudges against society.

    I guess some folks, when they want to kill a lot of people, will use just about anything. Even if it’s some what tiring to kill and injure 136 people with knives.

    Xinhua News Agency puts the number at 28 dead and 113 injured.

    Chen Guizhen, a 50-year-old woman, told Xinhua at the hospital that her husband Xiong Wenguang, 59, was killed in the attack.

    “Why are the terrorists so cruel? ” moaned Chen, holding her husband’s ID card in blood with her trembling hands.

    The couple, both farmers from the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, bought Sunday tickets to the eastern province of Zhejiang for their new urban jobs and planned to stay over the waiting room.

    “I found his ID card on his body. I can’t believe he just left me,” she cried.

    Yang Haifei, a local resident of Yunnan, told Xinhua that he was attacked and sustained injuries on his chest and back.

    Yang said he was buying a ticket when he saw a group of people rush into the station, most of them in black, and start attacking others.

    “I saw a person come straight at me with a long knife and I ran away with everyone,” he said, adding that people who were slower were severely injured.

    “They just fell on the ground,” he said.

  • A sad day (Updated)

    photo (2)cropped

    It is my sad and solemn duty to inform you all of the passing of Nickolas “Nick” Androsky, AKA Master Sergeant Soup Sandwich, on Saturday February 22, 2014. His brother emailed to tell us yesterday, along with a request that we remove the post about him. Of course, even if we were so inclined, Nick’s legacy is spread across the internet in a thousand forms, so I’m not disposed or inclined to comply with the family’s wishes.

    With my limited resources, I’ve only been able to verify with the funeral home, Penwell-Gabel Funeral Homes & Crematory in Junction City, KS that they cremated his earthly remains and that a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. So there’s no need to pester them about it.

    According to his brother, he died on Fort Riley, one can only imagine why he was there at the time of his demise. But he was treated and died at Irwin Army Community Hospital on Fort Riley. Of course they wouldn’t give me any information.

    It was just this last year, that we caught him still clinging to his lies. So it’s a reasonable assumption that he was still playing the roll when he died. By the way, I’m not sure how he died. The internet is such a mess these days that I can’t even find the medical examiner’s website for Junction City. Now you know as much as I know.

    UPDATE: I’ve just confirmed with an anonymous, reliable source that poor Nickolas has indeed passed on to his great reward.

  • Lundin leaves Dual Survival

    Since all of Joe Teti’s fans come here for updates, I thought I’d let them know that Teti’s partner, Cody Lundin has been fired from Discovery Channel’s “Dual Survival”. First they fired David Canterbury for being a phony and now Lundin for “differences over safety and health concerns on the show”;

    Lundin FB

    Personally, I’ve never watched the show, especially after Teti gave us such shit over the tongue bath I gave him. He’s been relentless. His problem is obviously over your comments, like I control how you think.

    I wish Joe Teti all the luck in the world. I’m sure that will earn me some more derision. But, obviously, Discovery Channel should drop the show and start up a new one where Joe Teti can star by himself. Call it Diva Survival.

  • “Hard Landing” kills one at Hunter AAF

    The Associated Press reports that one crew member died when a Black Hawk of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment had a “hard landing” at their station, Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA;

    “They were on final approach,” [Army Maj. Allen Hill, a spokesman for the crew’s aviation unit] said. “Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.”

    Hill said he did not know how badly the helicopter was damaged or if it landed on the tarmac or in the grass. Local television news footage taken from a distance showed the aircraft leaning to one side near the base’s runway.

    Though the helicopter hit the ground with enough force to kill and injure crew members, Hill insisted the aircraft had not crashed.

    “The difference is in a hard landing the pilot had more control, as opposed to a crash which would have been something more severe,” Hill said.

    Two other members of the crew were injured, but names haven’t been released yet pending notification of families.

    A lot of aircraft have been affected by particularly harsh gravity lately, but I’m sure it has nothing to do with budget and training cuts. It’s only a coincidence. And a reminder that training kills.

  • Flat D!&%

    Okay, the story from Fox doesn’t go into great detail so I’d love to hear from you nuke types. Looks like the Air Force went right to the top, I wish other services would consistently do the same.

    The Air Force is firing the two-star general in charge of all of its nuclear missiles in response to an investigation into alleged personal misbehavior, officials told The Associated Press on Friday.

    Of course, I may have to amend that….he wasn’t relieved because of the nuclear inspection results but because of “Personal behavior”…..Ooops!

  • Shots fired on Capitol Hill

    Apparently the shooter is in custody and the Capitol is locked down. According to the live stream at ABC7, WJLA sent to us by Chief Tango. PintoNag sends this link;

    The United States Capitol was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after shots were fired in the vicinity of the chamber. At least one Capitol Police officer was injured, officials said

    The FBI was responding to the scene, and a helicopter landed in front of the Capitol. A message from the Capitol Police ordered anyone in a House office to “shelter in place.”

    UPDATE: ABC is reporting that a FEMALE shooter was killed.

    Fox says the Capitol is no longer locked down. Might have been the conclusion of a car chase from outside the Capitol.

    Something about trying to ram the White House gates before the chase began. Had a child in the car?

    Law enforcement says that she didn’t try to ram the gate, that the woman is in custody (not killed), eye witnesses say she didn’t fire any shots, other says that she did. The car had non-DC plates on it. What a cluster.

    Suspect was shot, but capitol police chief doesn’t know if she was armed or not yet. Injured officer wasn’t shot. It sounds to me that she tried to ram a gate behind the Treasury Building (quite a way from the White House – you can’t even see the White House from there) and then turned around and headed south towards the Capitol on Constitution Ave followed by the police.

    I have to think that it was just a frustrated driver in DC.

  • Active shooter at the Navy Yard

    The Navy Tweets that there is an active shooter at the Washington, DC Navy Yard. No details just that. So stand by.

    UPDATE: Fox5 in DC says that there are injuries.

    Fox News says it’s one man with a shotgun.

    From the Washington Post.

    WJLA.

    Fox News reports that there’s an DC Metro officer down on the third floor of that particular building.

    UPDATE: NOT a Metro DC cop. But “officer down” nonetheless.
