  • Sikh Temple shooting in WI

    Seven people are dead, including the gunman, at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, WI, which started at about 10:30 this morning and ended by the first officer on the scene, who was himself injured in the exchange of gun fire. From Fox News;

    Greenfield Police Chief Bradley Wentlandt said four people were found dead inside the temple, while three, including the suspected shooter, were found dead outside. Police say they don’t think there is a second shooter involved.

    I don’t know who would have anything against Sikhs, they’ve been persecuted their entire history, and they certainly don’t deserve to be attacked by any rational person in this country.

    They’ve been good citizens here and they’re certainly deserving of the same sympathy as the citizens of Aurora, CO.

  • Recapping what we know about James Holmes

    OK, we didn’t know much when we woke up this morning and discovered that James Holmes had shot more than 60 people at a movie showing in Aurora, CO just after midnight. But that didn’t stop ABC from tying the shooter to the TeaParty. Of course, they had to retract that claim because they found a guy whose name was the same as the shooters. A quick check of White Pages says they list 30 James Holmes in Colorado, so what are the odds? Apparently, they just “Googled” James Holmes+Tea Party to fit their perception.

    The Army, certain that the media would speculate whether Holmes was a veteran or not, scanned their databases and determined that he is not one of theirs, says Spencer Ackermann;

    The U.S. Army, concerned over speculation that the shooter might have been a veteran — and eager to stifle the meme of the psychotic veteran before it spread — felt compelled to email that a database check of the suspect resulted in “no evidence suggest[ing] this individual served in the Army.” Spokespeople for Buckley Air Force Base, near to Aurora, said servicemembers were among the wounded.

    So the Left goes off and blames Rush Limbaugh for the shooter, because ya know everyone who listens to his show is just one command away from shooting up a theater, anyway. Another blogger claims that Holmes is a member of the Black Bloc.

    None of the speculation changes the fact that more than 60 people have been shot, some of them are members of the military, and blaming any group or media source detracts from the fact that his guy is a nutjob, and he has no reasonable excuse for what he did and that he is solely responsible for what he did. And anyone taking advantage of this for their own personal or political gains are despicable.

    ADDED: As an afterthought I checked AKO to see if the Army had any James Holmes and there are 34, one in Colorado, so I guess we’re lucky that the media doesn’t have access to AKO or we’d be hearing about the shooter being a veteran.

  • Battalion Commander Killed at Fort Bragg

    Multiple reports on this today, but complete details are not yet available.

    Apparently a Battalion Commander at Fort Bragg, NC,  was shot and killed yesterday by another soldier during a safety briefing.  (Other reports indicated that the unit involved was the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Battalion Brigade and that all injured and killed were from that unit.) The gunman reportedly broke ranks, pulled a handgun, and fired, killing the Battalion Commander.  The gunman then shot himself, but survived and is in custody in “serious” condition.  A third soldier was injured. The incident is currently under investigation by CID.  Names of the injured and killed do not appear to have been publicly released.

    Condolences to the surviving family.

  • Westboro threatens service for fallen Marine.

    This is not 100 percent confirmed but it looks like Westbro is threatening to disrupt the memorial service of Lance Cpl. Joshua Witsman. If anyone is near the Covington Illinois that want to be ready to provide interference to help protect the dignity and sanctity for the Witsman’s family would be appreciated.

    COVINGTON, Ind. — A 23-year-old Marine from western Indiana has been killed during military action in Afghanistan, family friends said.

    Flags are flying at half-staff outside the Fountain County Courthouse in honor of Lance Cpl. Joshua Witsman in his hometown of Covington.

    Fountain County Clerk Patty Gritten told WLFI-TV that she knew Witsman his entire life and that he had always wanted to serve his country.

  • Army reject kills five, self, in Seattle

    Ian Stawicki, a 40-year-old former soldier, shot five people in Seattle yesterday before killing himself as the Seattle Police Department closed in on him. He started his shooting spree in a cafe in the University District by shooting five people, one of whom survived, before heading downtown and killing a seemingly random woman in a car jacking. His family didn’t express any surprise and described him as having mental problems and “a lot of anger”. According to the local ABC News affiliate, KOMO, Stawicki did a brief stint in the Army in the early 90’s and was based at Fort Drum before being discharged as “unsuitable” for the military.

    When his identity first broke and before any history of his time in the Army came out KOMO ran the picture of him above, wearing a gray Army PT shirt. KOMO also went out of their way to mention that he suffered hearing loss from a grenade going off near his head during training, presumably to set up the narrative of Stawicki suffering from some sort of service induced PTSD. This narrative is already being diligently picked up on by some commentators. We’ll see if there’s any further attempt to beat this meme to death.

    And, in the tradition of never letting a good tragedy go to waste, Jonathan Golob and the always petulantly fussy David Goldstein, both of alt weekly Seattle paper The Stranger, used the “opportunity” to attack “right-wing propagandists” and the Second Amendment, quite literally while the bodies were still warm. Their solutions are, of course, right down the center of The Stranger’s extremist, left-wing Progressive statism, calling for a larger welfare apparatus (but not “inhumanly” institutionalizing crazy people) and restricting law abiding people’s access to guns. Stay classy, guys.

  • TSO is Home!

    For those of you not following along elsewhere…

    TSO is home and in the tub.

    Interesting that this bathing event was reported by his (much to good for him) wife?

    WELCOME HOME!

  • Member of British government puts bounty on US Presidents

    In what has historically been seen as an act of war, a left-wing Labour Party member of the upper house of British Parliament has apparently put out a $16 million bounty on President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush. The Baron Nazir Ahmed, a life peer of the House of Lords, placed the bounty in response to the US bounty on Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the head of Islamist terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. HuffPo is reporting that Labour has since suspended his membership in the party. The Baron Ahmed is the first Muslim life peer in the House of Lords.

    It’ll be interesting to see the results of this investigation. Booting a life peer from the House of Lords is incredibly difficult and he’s a darling of the radical anti-war left. If it can be substantiated he said what he’s accused of saying and he really did place a unilateral bounty on the head of two US Presidents I’m even more interested to know what the Obama administration’s response will be. Being an election year we could even see the notoriously flexible Obama find some spine.

  • Navy Hornet crash in Virginia Beach

    ROS and Hondo send links to the news that an F-18 crashed in Virginia Beach a few hours ago. It’s being reported that the pilots ejected and one went to the hospital while one other person on the ground has been hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

    David Schleck of the Virginia Pilot tells MSNBC that several witnesses saw both parachutes descending in the air, with both parachutes being caught in buildings above ground. One of the pilots was reportedly still attached to his parachute, which was entangled with the burning apartment building. Schleck says a local neighborhood child was able to obtain a knife that was reportedly used to free the Navy pilot.

    I guess the news is a lot better than it could have been so far.
