  • Beer Summit; flat, flavorless

    beer-summit

    So there ya go – that’s the extent of our Big Discussion On Race. The media was held at bay forty feet from the four guys at a table with some pale-looking beverage. More feel good window-dressing. What did it cure? What discussion have we had as a result?

    The Washington Post reports that there was no tension at the meeting, but there were no apologies either;

    After the meeting, Crowley and a lawyer speaking for Gates said the two men were satisfied with the tone of the discussion. Speaking to reporters at a brief news conference, Crowley said that while there was “no tension” at the meeting, no apologies were offered either. “Two gentlemen agreed to disagree on a particular issue,” he said.

    “Agreed to disagree”. About what? Either a cop arrested a Black man for being Black, or a professor was race baiting officers. There’s no middle ground there. None. Did the media gather around because they thought someone would start tossing chairs? Or were they all there to take totally useless pictures of a non-event.

    Another Washington Post article announces that Obama’s injecting himself into the whole incident has hurt him;

    The percentage of whites who “like” the kind of person he is fell by six points.

    In a callback survey Monday evening, more than twice as many whites disapproved than approved of how Obama was dealing with the matter (45 percent disapproved, 22 approved and 33 percent said they did not know).

    It should – just like all of the other stuff he comments on, he is woefully uninformed yet shoots off his mouth anyway. Iran, Honduras, Venezuela, Iraq, healthcare, the economy – he just says stuff thinking every one will agree with him no matter how stupid he sounds.

    Oh, and bringing Joe Biden was a wonderful idea. What could his pale ass contribute to…well…anything.
    Really boring video below the fold;

  • Philly Panthers investigation halted

    perreli

    Last May I wrote that the DOJ had decided to not prosecute the three Philadelphia Black Panthers who were caught on tape intimidating voters last election day. The man in the picture above is Thomas J Pirrelli, the Obama Justice Department official who decided to drop the investigation against the Philadelphia Black Panthers. The Washington Times describes the time line of events;

    Front-line lawyers were in the final stages of completing that work when they were unexpectedly told by their superiors in late April to seek a delay after a meeting between political appointees and career supervisors, according to federal records and interviews. The delay was ordered by then-acting Assistant Attorney General Loretta King after she discussed with Mr. Perrelli concerns about the case during one of their regular review meetings, according to the interviews. Ms. King, a career senior executive service official, had been named by President Obama in January to temporarily fill the vacant political position of assistant attorney general for civil rights while a permanent choice could be made. She and other career supervisors ultimately recommended dropping the case against two of the men and the party and seeking a restraining order against the one man who wielded a nightstick at the Philadelphia polling place. Mr. Perrelli approved that plan, officials said.

    The reason?

    Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler told The Washington Times that the department has an “ongoing obligation to be sure the claims it makes are supported by the facts and the law. She said that after a “thorough review of the complaint, top career attorneys in the Civil Rights Division determined the “facts and the law did not support pursuing the claims against three of the defendants.

    Well, sure, as long as you disregard the fact that the video on YouTube doesn’t exist. Who needs evidence when you can just pull excuses out of your ass. Correction; I just noticed that the video on YouTube has been pulled “due to terms of use violations”. Sweet. Apparently Winston Smith is on the job.

  • Conyers: Why read the bill?

    You’ve probably seen this already, but I just saw it. It’s a real Zen moment for American voters;

    In reference to the massive healthcare bill, John Conyers, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says; “What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you’ve read the bill?”

    What good indeed. That’ll be my defense when I’m hauled into court for violating the provisions in that bill – because I don’t have two days or two lawyers to explain it to me either.

    I bought a new car the other day, and I drove the salesman nuts because I read everything I was signing and asked questions. But, see, I’m personally invested in an automobile contract, Conyers isn’t personally invested in the healthcare bill, or anything else he signs. The Party tells him to sign it and he signs it.

    The only benefit he hopes to gain from signing the bill is the political capital it’ll bring him in the form of patronage and donations. Why should he care it actually works?

    Anyone going to ask him about his wife’s legal problems? Just last week he called for an investigation into the Bush Administration. So, he’s got all of that going on, so we really can’t expect him to read a bill before he signs it.

  • Two Reps return from Honduras

    Two Republican Congressmen have returned from their trip to investigate the supposed coup in Honduras and their estimation of the situation differs, unsurprisingly, from the Administration according to The Hill;

    “The majority of folks think Zelaya should come back to the country, but to stand trial,” Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) said.

    Mack told The Hill that he found Hondurans to be in “disbelief” at the Obama administration’s reaction to the ouster of Zelaya.

    “Whether or not [Hondurans] agree on how he was removed all of them agree that he broke the constitution, broke the law,” Mack said. “A large majority believe he should not return to Honduras and to power.”

    Bilbray said the U.S. can’t put itself in a position of supporting a president over a country’s constitution and the rule of law. “That’s a scary place for us to find ourselves, especially considering our history,” he said.

    Well, it’s not that hard to figure out, actually. The Obama places a higher value on the friendship of Chavez, Ortega, Morales, Correa and Zelaya than he does on the friendship of the Honduran people. I’d like to know the name of the Obama advisor who read the Honduran Constitution and then gave Obama the advice to support the unconditional return of Zelaya to his office.

    While the Honduran Army has vowed that it won’t fire on Honduran people, Zelaya is urging Obama to place sanctions on his country. Interim president Micheletti has promised to step down to keep the peace, while Zelaya has threatened “blood in the streets”. So who is thinking of the Honduran people and who is thinking of their own political survival?

    Thanks to TSO for The Hill link.

  • Gates, Crowley and Obama to meet

    Ya know, if I was a thief and lived in Cambridge, you know where I’d be Thursday night?

    President Obama will meet with Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley at the White House Thursday, CBS News reports.

    The meeting, which has been rumored for the past few days, comes as scrutiny intensifies over Crowley’s arrest of the prominent black scholar and Harvard professor.

    Homeowner out of town, neighbors scared of calling and no cop will go near the place. I’m just sayin’….

  • 7 arrested in NC terror plot; DUmmies call BS

    You’ve probably all seen the story about 7 folks arrested in North Carolina for plotting a terrorist attack. All but one were Americans, one claims to have experience fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan (Fox News link);

    Two of the suspects are Boyd’s sons: Zakariya Boyd, 20 and Dylan Boyd, 22. The others are Anes Subasic, 33; Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, 22; and Ziyad Yaghi, 21.

    Hysen Sherifi, 24, a native of Kosovo and a U.S. legal permanent also was charged in the case. He was the only person arrested who was not a U.S. citizen.

    The suspects face charges of providing material support to terrorism and “conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim and injure persons abroad.”

    Of course, even though it’s their guy in charge of the people doing the arresting now, the folks at Democratic Underground are calling BS – I guess the investigation had been going on since the Bush Administration, so somehow, it’s tainted.

    NoSheep
    4. They did all this to hurt people “overseas” ??? If they hate America so much, why didn’t they just go down to the new convention center and set off a fucking bomb? When are people going to get it???? These so called terrorists are figments of the propaganda machine. Here! Here’s a good one: The Tooth Fairy says you are all a bunch of idiots.!!! Can I get that on Page One?

    Mr/Mrs No Sheep fails to mention which “propaganda machine” is responsible. I suppose there’s just a generalpurpose propaganda machine out there somewhere that releases these stories irrespective of events.

    The next thing you know, someone will be telling that the president isn’t a US citizen.

  • A compliment from Bill Maher

    At about 1:55, Bill Maher tells Wolf Blitzer, in reference to the possibility that Sarah Palin would run for President that he wouldn’t put anything past “this stupid country”. He expands on that empty thought at about 4:55. Of course, the election of Barack Obama was an aberration. Just because we accidentally elected a smart guy doesn’t make us smart, he says. Then at about 7 minutes, he calls Michael Moore’s documentaries “brilliant”.

    I’m guessing he’s being contrary for effect. Anyone who calls Americans stupid and Michael Moore brilliant is just working too hard at being funny.

    To demonstrate how smart he is, Maher tells us that capitalism would be good if it wasn’t for profit motive. I guess that’s his idea of brilliant.

    You’d think Wolf Blitzer, who considers himself a journalist, would be embarrassed to be seen interviewing this clown.

  • What is Iran doing in Bolivia?

    evo-morales-mahmoud-ahmadin

    Bolivians are starting to get jumpy about the presence of Iranians in their country according to the Washington Times’ Martin Arostegui;

    “We need to ask what Iran’s real interest is in Bolivia,” said Roman Loayza, a [Movement Toward Socialism (MAS)] dissident who is running against Mr. Morales in presidential elections scheduled for December. “Evo has no business entering into agreements with foreign interests at the back of the Bolivian people which could harm our environment,” Mr. Loayza told The Washington Times. Bolivian officials insist that Iran’s activities in Bolivia are benign. Iran’s ambassador has toured Indian communities and promised to finance development projects. Mr. Morales has said that Iran wants to build a radio and TV station in his home district of Chapare to “support the peasant struggle in South America.”

    Of course, the easiest answer is that Iran wants to mine uranium from Bolivia’s rich deposits to fuel it’s nuclear program. The Israelis have accused Morales of entering into mineral agreements with Iran with just that purpose in mind. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman was touring South America to avoid that prospect just last week. Last year, the Bush Administration was concerned about Hezbollah operating in the region, more specifically in Venezuela at the behest of Hugo Chavez. In fact, a few years ago, Chavez threw Christian missionaries out of Venezuela and replaced them with Islamic missionaries.
