  • Obama sends wrong message to Chavez

    In the past, the messages that the US has sent to foreign governments has caused many of our foreign policy problems. Who can forget Saddam Hussein thinking he had Ambassador April Catherine Glaspie’s tacit approval for an invasion of Kuwait? The reason the Soviets thought they could invade Afghanistan was because they knew Jimmy Carter would do nothing (boy, he fooled them – he boycotted the Moscow Olympics. That taught ’em.)

    Now, by coming down on the wrong side of the Honduras problem, Obama could be giving Chavez clearance to forcibly re-install ousted president Manuel Zelaya. Mary Anastasia O’Grady writes today in the Wall Street Journal;

    At issue is Mr. Chávez’s determination to restore deposed Honduran president Manuel Zelaya to power through multilateral pressure. His phone call to a State Department official showed that his campaign was not going well and that he thought he could get U.S. help.

    This is not good news for the region. The Venezuelan may feel that his aims have enough support from the U.S. and the Organization of American States (OAS) that he would be justified in forcing Mr. Zelaya on Honduras by supporting a violent overthrow of the current government. That he has reason to harbor such a view is yet another sign that the Obama administration is on the wrong side of history.

    In the three weeks since the Honduran Congress moved to defend the country’s constitution by relieving Mr. Zelaya of his presidential duties, it has become clear that his arrest was both lawful and a necessary precaution against violence.

    The Obama Administration has ignored the fact that Zelaya’s removal was required by the Honduran Constitution. In fact, under the Honduran Constitution, Zelaya’s loss of his Honduran citizenship was required. Continuing to call this a coup, only lends a violent return of Zelaya legitimacy.

    The Obama Administration has refused to acknowledge the discovery of computer files in Honduras that held the pre-ordained outcome of Zelaya’s illegal referendum (reported to us by Alberto de la Cruz at Babalu Blog on Saturday) intentionally ignoring the fact that the whole world has been set up by the amateurs of the Bolivarian Revolution.

    Fausta writes this morning that Zelaya has shifted his ultimatum date to July 24th – enough time for Chavez to position Venezuelan troops in Nicaragua to force the return of Zelaya.

  • Zelaya gives talks until midnight

    Things are heating up in central America over former President Zelaya’s ouster. The deposed politico, from the safety of Nicaragua, has declared that at midnight he’ll steal into Honduras to continue his fight against the Constitutional government in Honduras. This from Fausta’s Blog;

    Sounds to me he’s saying he’ll be leading a battle… mañana. We’ll see what the weekend brings. The negotiations are scheduled to resume today.

  • Birthers use Ron Paulian tactics

    You probably remember the big dust up we had this week with the “birthers” (or “nirthers” if you really want to piss them off) over Stefan Cook’s dismissed lawsuit this last week. TSO and I were reminded of the ordeal we suffered through last year as a result of the Paulian invasion of TAH. The comments were all the same; “learn your Comstitution”, “read a book”, “educate yourself” and all of the same old stupid general blather. An attempt to take over the comments by the intellectually shallow. And we always get the blowhards who think that quanitity equals quality.

    Apparently, they’ve adopted the same blathering obnoxious approach across the internet. take a look at the comments Uncle Jimbo’s Ace of Spades post in the post below. Same techniques. I guess they didn’t recognize that Ron Paul’s biggest failing was having nutjobs as supporters who would cut and paste their comments on every Technorati search result of “Ron+Paul”.

    The Columbus, Georgia Ledger-Enquirer discovered the same thing.

  • Tea Partiers protest healthcare plans

    Across the country, Americans expressed their displeasure with the president’s healthcare plan. The lovely ladies above were at fake Mexican Loretta Sanchez’ office. I snagged the picture from American Power blog who has quite a list of links of other protests across the nation.

    Gateway Pundit reports on the protest in St Louis at Senator McCaskill’s office there. Apparently, her staff is so accustomed to dissenting opinions that they closed the doors and windows and called the cops on the surly protesters. According to the Schilling Show, the cops were called by the staff of Tom Perriello’s Charlottesville office, too.

    Our buddy, DanNY at GOE; NY visited several politicians offices in NY including Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kristin Gillibrand, Rep. Steven Israel, Rep. Tim Bishop.

  • Health care in trouble

    Conservative Democrat Mike Ross warns today that there will have to be significant changes to the Obama health plan before it’ll get out of his committee, according to Fox News;

    Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., who chairs the Blue Dogs’ health care task force, said the group would need to see significant changes to protect small businesses and rural providers and contain costs before it could sign on. “We cannot support the current bill,” he said. The Energy and Commerce Committee’s Blue Dogs met Wednesday to consider what amendments they would offer, and the panel scheduled vote sessions daily through next Wednesday in what promised to be an arduous process to reach consensus.

    The key to defeating this whole plan doesn’t pivot on the Republicans, it rests on how painful it’ll be next year for Democrats in their own districts. The Republicans have made themselves irrelevant to the politics of this thing, so it’s up to people in Democrat-held districts to phone and mail.

    Of course, if we’re going to continue to be bogged down in ancillary BS….

    I got this email yesterday morning and I wasn’t going to mention it until I see my email box filled to the brim over this nirther bullshit. For those of you who think that the IVAW is a subversive organization that means to do damage to the country and our national security, how can you support this kind of lunacy;

    Military, listen up! Now comes your day of reckoning. Will you wait for others to honor their Oath before YOU do? Major Stefan Frederick Cook successfully challenged his deployment orders based on BHO’s illegitimacy. Orders to deploy to Afghanistan were rescinded! Please spread this to every military person you know as it is further confirmation you have NO legal Commander In Chief. Now do you get why THEY have not arrested Lt. Commander Walter Fitzpatrick? They CAN’T risk exposure, plain and simple. So here’s your task. Use the Lt. Commander’s criminal complaint and substitute your name and rank. Notarize and send to me and your State U.S. Attorneys. It will be used in Grand Jury Presentments and other actions designed to FORCE compliance of the top brass to their “OATH OF OFFICE”. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, it WILL be the MILITARY that comes to the rescue of our country. Only YOU can stand up against this monster. Only YOU can make the difference. We The People have had our GOD given rights stripped by the Legislative and Judicial branches of this now FOREIGN government. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you in this fight to restore America to its basis as a Constitutional Republic, the best form of government ever invented on this planet.

    Um, while we’re engaged with a ruthless enemy overseas, these backwards ignorant turds are telling our troops to either (1) lay down their arms and refuse to serve, or (2) overthrow a constitutionally elected President. It’s a bit convoluted so I’m not exactly sure what they’re saying – but I’ve heard it all before from IVAW, Code Pink and VFP. it was traitorous then and it’s traitorous now. It was traitorous when Ron Paul was your savior and it’s traitorous when Orly Taintz is your savior.

    What’s next? When the troops refuse to do your bidding, are you going to spit on them and call them babykillers?

    This Ain’t Hell stands firmly on the Constitution, and we don’t support insurrection. All three of us swore to protect and defend the Constitution and we’ve all been tested in that regard. Do any of us support the current administration’s policies? Other than their policy towards the Taliban, no. To think otherwise is to disregard the last three years of This Ain’t Hell. It’s juvenile to say that we do.

    Is Obama an American citizen? I don’t know. But I know that while we’re talking about some idiot pretender Major who refused to go on the deployment that he volunteered for, we’re getting a socialist health care system rammed up our collective ass. And the nirthers continue to flail around trying to subvert the military.

    That’s why I think you’re crazy.

    By the way, where’s Orly Taintz’ birth certificate? Did she get that by correspondence course, too?

  • Lie down with dogs

    I can already see the ALL CAPS!!!!!! comments I’m going to get for this one. But here goes.

    Greyhawk has a bit up about U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook who has refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he thinks that Barack Obama isn’t a US citizen and therefore, can’t order him to war (or the rest of the military). According to this major; “[The entire army] becomes merely a corps of chattel slaves under the illegitimate control of a private citizen.”

    In my opinion, who is Stefan Frederick Cook? As foolish as I think it was, the American people elected Barrack Obama to be our President. It may turn out to be that he deceived us, but who is one soldier (who is actually obeying the American people, by the way, by pledging his allegiance to the Constitution) to refuse to do his duty with no real proof that his President isn’t eligible to be President? I assume that the Major joined during the Bush Administration – did he ever see President Bush’s birth certificate? Is every President now required to show his birth certificate to every major in the Army? Act your age, Cook.

    Does the Left get a pass? Nope. I went over to “Courage to Resist” – they’re the folks who are protecting and defending the likes of Kimberly Rivera, Dustin Che Stevens, Travis Bishop and Victor Agosto who are all refusing to deploy to various assignments. The motto of CTR is “Support the troops who refuse to fight”. So where’s their support for Major (soon to be Inmate) Cook? Cook is claiming Conscientious Objector status, just like the aforementioned doofuses (or is it doofi?).

    Yeah, I know, they’re all taking a principled stand. I’m sure Cook will enjoy his cellmates constantly pointing that out. Kind of like Ron Paul wondering why all of the KKKers and Nazis were at his rallies.

    But in the meantime, I don’t see CTR, IVAW or Vets For Peace carrying around “Free Cook” signs either.
