  • PETA Ad

Yeah, I know there’s a disgusting PETA Ad in my sidebar, so don’t click it. They paid their money for two weeks and they can’t get it back, so screw ’em. If you’re offended by it, come by the TAH Corporate HQs and I’ll give you some rum and a cigar to make you feel better, but I’m a capitalist who doesn’t mind taking money from PETA. I have no standards. I was kinda hoping it was going to be some naked actresses begging us to not wear fur, but, I shoulda known better.

But you should click the Ranger Up ad and buy stuff, they paid for a month. I buy from them every time they run an ad here, so you should, too.

  • Another Day In Paradise – Success!!!

    Yesterday, I asked you folks to go ahead and pick up a free copy of Justin Burgess’ ebook “Another Day In Paradise” and you folks apparently came through for the new author and young captain who is still in Afghanistan. He emailed today;

Many thanks for the shout out. The book has been downloaded over 5k times in the last day, and has already reached number 78 on the free bestsellers list. Once again I can’t thank you enough. Out here we celebrated Independence Day as only the Army can, with a 10 volley of
120mm illum rounds over enemy villages!

Way to go. If you haven’t got your copy yet, it’s still free today and this Amazon link. there’s also a Kindle app for your Android here. thanks to everyone who helped Justin crack his way in to the writing world.

  • TAH on Stupid America

Brian of the webradio show “Stupid America” has invited me on tonight at 7PM Eastern to talk about (what else) Stolen Valor. He assures me that it’s not because I’m stupid, but because there are stupid Americans out there. Brian says he’s a nineteen-year soldier nearing retirement, so it’s probably going to be an interesting show.

So I guess I’m going to be on for two hours regaling the audience with tales of phonies and some of our experiences, so if you can tear yourself away from summer reruns of Kaley Cuoco (whose boobs frighten TSO), join us won’t you?

  • Question for the military lawyers

Someone asked me who owns the photos that were turned over to the LA Times, and I have no idea. Obviously, the soldier had them in his possession until he gave them to the LA Times, but since they were taken while he was on duty, does the Army have some claim to them. I know a lot of things people do on the government’s time belongs to the government, do these photos fall into the same category? Just wondering.

  • Spam problem. Sorry

We usually get about 200 spam comments an hour here (down from over 400/hour in December) and it appears that my filter is tired and it’s sending everyone to the spam folder. So if you had an alert telling you that your comment is being moderated, don’t sweat it. I’m going through the comments manually and sorting yours out until I can get someone to help out fixing stupid Askimet – the spam filter.

Yeah, I woke up this morning to several thousand and I’ve spent most of the morning going through them, so I might be a little slow because I’m quickly losing interest. Don’t stop commenting, just be understanding. It’s also making the site run slowly, so also be patient with us.

  • Welcome Russ Vaughn

I think I peed myself a little. Going through my emails this morning, I came across one from Russ Vaughn. I didn’t think he even knew who we were. If you don’t recognize the name, Russ wrote “The Sheepdogs“. He used to write at Old War Dogs, the project created by the late Bill Faith (who credited Russ with the idea for OWD) and currently writes at The American Thinker.

Anyway, Russ asked if we had room here at TAH for him. Lemme see, we have 18 people who can post here, one is bouncing around currently in some ‘Stan, somewhere, two are on Capitol Hill and the rest have lives, apparently, so lemme see if I can squeeze you in here, somewhere, Russ.

Anyway, even if I didn’t have room, one of them would be getting their walking papers so we could get our clutches on a bit of Russ’ time. So join me, if you will, in welcoming an icon of the Vietnam generation of blog writers, Russ Vaughn to the already stellar staff at TAH.

By the way, Russ earned his Combat Infantry Badge in the 2d Bn, 327th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, when they were still paratroopers in Vietnam 1965-1966.

  • Impending power outage

My code monkey hippie chick tells me that the power in the place where the blog lives is going to be out for about an hour beginning at 6:15 (1815 hours for most of you) So don’t freak. ‘k?

  • An introduction

You may have noticed a new blogger on this site. Berkshire Republican joined us yesterday with his first post last night. He volunteered to write for us on Thursday which coincided with the loss of our Marine blogger, Operator Dan, who has gone to work as a veteran advocate for his Congressman. That’s two bloggers we’ve sent to Congressional staffs in our grand cartoonish plan to take over the world.

But Berkshire Republican is also a combat-tested Marine and a welcomed addition to the team of veterans at TAH. Welcome, BR, and have a ball!
