  • IP issues

    Some of you have complained that you’re getting the old TAH when you come here with no updates since June 22d. That’s the day we moved to our bright and shiny new home in Wisconsin in the basement of my hippie chick code monkey. She tells me that if you have that problem you need to flush your dns cache. yeah, I didn’t know what that meant either. But it’s a simple procedure – shut down your browser and in the Start menu, click open your Accessories (in All Programs) and then “Command Prompt” then type in “ipconfig/flushdns“., Then start up your browser again and it should bring to our new IP address.

    Sorry to be a bother, but if you could see how much better this blog is running and how our spam has dropped off from the thousands to the tens, you’d see it’s worth the trouble. Thanks for sticking with us through this transition. And thanks to all of you who helped us finance the move.

    Note the button up and right.

    This is a simple experiment. Just now it is raw and NOT attached to TAH. We will adapt as needed… so should you.

    Suggestions are welcome.

  • First ever TAH fundraiser

    I’m going to be off the network today because I’ll be at Walter Reed for an appointment with my pretty lady doctor – that means five hours on the road. But I thought I’d leave you with some news. Master Sergeant Soup Sandwich earned us over a half-million hits this weekend and about 100,000 new visitors, thanks to our friend at the Ranger Training Brigade for those pictures. As near as I can tell, the traffic was all generated by the new Facebook “Like” button which was coincidentally installed the day of the post. Thanks for hitting the button and sending the post out ‘net-wide. We’ve had our largest amount of traffic since Obama blew off the Medal of Honor Inauguration Ball back in 2009.

    Wednesday night we’re moving from Yahoo servers to my hippie chick code monkey’s private server because we’ve reached the limit on what Yahoo can do for us. It’s going to cost us a little bit more money, but it’ll improve your experience here, and it’ll get rid of some the problems the authors here have had with the administration of the blog.

    You may have noticed a few spam comments have made it through the filter – we’ve had more than a quarter million spam messages hit the blog in the last 60 days, so it’s inevitable that few might slip through. I guess it’s the price of growing popularity.

    So that being said, I’m begging for some donations for the first time. Many of you have donated without being asked and I appreciate that – it’s what keeps me going sometimes. Some of you have donated $1 and every bit of it is appreciated. So far all of the money that’s been donated either went to other bloggers or this blog.

    For those of you who haven’t donated before, the button to PayPal is at the bottom of the sidebar – or click this link. Any amount is greatly appreciated and it’ll all go to administration of this blog since I can’t drink anymore according to my pretty Walter Reed doctor woman.

    If you can’t donate, don’t feel guilty about it, I understand that times are hard – your patronage is still appreciated.

    Thank you in advance for everything you’re able to donate.

    I hope my co-bloggers will be able to keep you entertained today in my absence. I’ll be back late this afternoon.

  • Headed to the MilBlog Conference

    TSO and i will be at the MilBlog Conference in Arlington this weekend. My son is also flying out to Korea tomorrow on his birthday. He has a year over there with a follow-on assignment to Kaiserslautern, Germany. So I’ll miss part of the conference to take him to BWI.

    But I can’t miss the reception tonight, otherwise I’d miss the fashion show. Jimbo is also supposed to bringing the cigars. He’d better not blow it. Since alcohol is off my diet these days, cigars are all I have left.

    I can’t wait to see old friends and make some new ones;

    Eve chase

    I’m taking my camera this year, so there should be plenty of pictures for you Monday morning.

    There are 11 other people who can post here, so keep stopping back.

  • The #1 song 45 years ago today

    I remember when it was #1 – I was ten. The staff at Camp Mackall played it on a loop over the loudspeaker every night until lights out.

    I’ll be off the net this weekend, but I’ve been assured by the eleven other people who have posting privileges here that they’ll keep you entertained. Have a happy government shut down.

  • I may have to start charging for TAH

    Someone sent us this screen that blocked their access to TAH;

    So, since this is pornography, maybe I should start charging you guys.

  • Wild and wonderful

    I’m sitting up here in the TAH Corporate Retreat and the power went out. TSO and COB6 have the keys to the nuclear power back up plant so I have to rely on Allegheny Power who says the power should be back by 3:30 tomorrow. I’ve got the fireplace going and found the little AT&T thingie for the laptop operating on batteries and I sent my wife to Quiznos.

    So if you don’t hear from me for a while, you know the deal. Luckily, there are ELEVEN other people who can post while I wait for the hillbillies to leave their moonshine stills and meth labs long enough to turn on my power.

  • A plug for our sponsors

    You probably noticed the ad in the sidebar for MyServicePride. Well, they emailed me yesterday and said that you guys have bought more of their stuff than any of the other other blogs on which they tested. Thanks for clicking the ads. They’ve decided to continue advertising frequently because of your patronage.

    Yeah, I bought a mug a few weeks back, too;

    I have the license plate, too, since West Virginia only gives us one.

    The mug I’d carried for ten years broke about ten years back (it was subdued E-7 rank on woodland camo) and my son bought me an Air Force mug when he went to basic that I’d been using since. I finally found a suitable replacement for the old one. It’s nice to have my morning coffee from my DD214.

    But, anyway thanks for reading and clicking the ads.
