I’ve been sitting on this one for more than three years, He’s a slippery one, this Colt Kelly Lee Vernon Albert Bulot fellow. Those are names that he uses. The first time I talked to him, he was on Facebook and he sent me DD214s;
He sent me four photos of the same document with the same handwritten scrawl in places and that made me wonder – I’ve never written on an original copy of my DD214 so I don’t know what would motivate someone to do that. I asked him about his class dates – the Ranger Tab and Special Forces Tab were in many of his photos. He merely said that he didn’t want to give those dates to me. The folks at Green Beret Poser Patrol asked him and he gave them the same answers – that he wanted to keep that information private.
The problem is that the information isn’t private. I checked with the Ranger Training Brigade and I couldn’t find a class number for him. Our friends at Green Beret Poser Patrol couldn’t find a record of Bulot attending SFQC either. His FOIA which also list the tabs, don’t make mention of his training;
According to his DD214, his last assignment was to the 1/221st Armored Cavalry in the Nevada National Guard which is part of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. The period of active duty on his FOIA that lasted from 2005 – 2007 was when 1st Squadron of the 11th ACR was in Iraq and 1/221st covered their duties as aggressors at the National Training Center. The 1/221st had a deployment to Afghanistan, but I can’t find a record of him being on active duty during that time frame.
The only training in his FOIA and his DD214 is Drill Sergeant School and what looks like 11B training.
His 2-1 is a mess but it shows that he had some time in the 82nd Airborne Division briefly, but there’s no training like Ranger or Special Forces;
He has a son who looks like he’s a totally legit soldier, but this Colt Bulot has had several chances to come clean and he just won’t.

Being an 18D/SOIDC also requires attending sustainment training periodically, of which there is no evidence he has ever completed.
So he went dormant for a while, to escape scrutiny, and then, seeing that the coast was clear (or so he thought), he pops up again.

IANAL, but both libel and slander are forms of defamation. In both, the plaintiff (that’s you, laughing boy) has to prove that the alleged defamatory statements made against him are false. The difference I can see is in the medium where the alleged defamation occurred.

In case anyone is wondering, certain IP addresses and emails are in a specially designated TAH database and when someone with one of those IP addresses or emails visits, the noise from the alarms at TAH HQ is deafening. AW1ED has a big screen in his house that flashes “INTRUDER ALERT.” It’s true. I’ve seen it.

I had a kid that i busted down to e-1 for getting drunk in Iraq in 05 ( general order #1) by 2009 he had already made e-6 and was getting his 7 in a few months. and this kid was a real bag of shit so how bad of a soldier do you have to be to do 34 years and stay a E-6?
Was never a Reservist but was told rank could be really slow since they could only promote to fill open slots, so if there were no open E-6 slots, you stayed an E-5 for years.
Must be old pictures, it says he got out as an E-6 but both pics are of a faily old him with buck sergeant stripes.
SGT Fon, there was an E-5 Bosun’s Mate who was constantly busted down to SN (E-3), and then moved back up to E-4 and E-5, over a period of 20 years, and most of it was because he was just uncivilized.
He was finally piped over the side when he couldn’t behave himself where I worked.
Wait, is there any evidence he was EVER assigned to a Special Forces group? Because SF isn’t a “leadership” or “professional development” school like Ranger school. If you aren’t slotted for an SF unit, you don’t go to the school, period.
For those wondering how bogus awards get into DD-214’s, it’s not that difficult, especially for a reservist or national guardsman who is mobilized and then demobilized.
I’ve explained this before, but it’s been a few years, so I’ll put it out again for those who haven’t been on TAH that long:
When reservists/guardsmen are demobilized, the last thing they usually go through is a paperwork outprocessing appointment that includes a DD-214 review.
As you can imagine, when a large unit is demobilizing at a large installation (for me it was Fort Carson, CO) so this is a time consuming process with lots of “hurry up and wait” time.
Now, here’s the key: The DD-214 itself is prepared by a clerk – often a SPC or PFC or a low ranking civilian, on a computer screen. They ask you to verify your basic info like name, SSN, home address etc.
THEN they get to the awards part. For demobilizing reservists, they will usually have a list of campaign awards that they are directed to put on (I argued with the SPC that did mine that I didn’t rate the GWOTSM as the description of that award specifically stated that it was for stateside duty, not overseas duty, but his instructions were to put it on everybody’s DD-214.)
Then they get to the individual awards. This is where it gets slippery: Because what they tell soldiers is that the individual awards will be pulled out of the official records, which usually means a previous DD-214 if the soldier has one. When soldiers are getting ready to demobilize, they are told “If you have an award that is not in your records, bring the paperwork with you and they will put it on your DD-214 when you outprocess.”
Can you see where this is going? You see, you don’t have to fool “big army” with a fake certificate or set of orders – you only have to fool PFC or SPC or GS5 Snuffy, who is at the end of a long day of typing DD-214’s and just wants to go home and have a beer.
If you can show Snuffy a set of orders or a realistic looking certificate, he will put that award on your DD-214. Yes he’s SUPPOSED to verify it (and they have supervisors that Snuffy is supposed to run those orders by) but I’ve never actually seen them do that. Show Snuffy a previous DD-214 that shows you have a Space Shuttle Door Gunner badge and he will select that award from a pull down menu and it goes on your NEW 214.
And THAT is how a fake DD-214 or a fake certificate can be used to ‘bootstrap’ a bogus award onto a LEGITIMATE DD-214.
Because once that award is on a GENUINE DD-214, nobody is going to question it (which is funny because there is some boilerplate language on the DD-214 itself that even says “data on this form is subject to verification.”)
I kind of hate to post this because I feel like I’m giving instructions on how to steal valor but the fakers, generally speaking, already know this stuff. It’s a weakness in the system that AFAIK has not yet been addressed.
Martinjmpr: Excellent breakdown of the DD 214 process for demobilizing Reserve\NG soldiers. As a returning Reservist I out-processed through Fort Carson after an OIF deployment and had a civilian employee who prepared my DD 214. Our battalion of about 350 Soldiers flooded the processing center and as you described it was a chaotic experience.
I was more interested in making sure my active duty service was accurate so my points summary would be correct for retirement pay calculation. But it did seem there were opportunities to manipulate one’s awards, decorations, and training courses with minimal effort or documentation. I mostly just wanted to fly home to resume my part-time patriot status ASAP!
Martinjumper, your comment about who gets to SFQC is likely correct for enlisted, even back in the 1970’s and early 1980’s; but in the 1970’s the Special Forces Officer Course had many students who were not assigned to SF groups. My class contained a number of officers who had no SF assignment. After completing the course successfully, they were given the “3” prefix on their MOS. I even had a veterinary officer in my class. Of course, this douche-nozzle would have had to go through the enlisted QC which he obviously didn’t, given there is no record of him attending it or Ranger School. Just like BUDS class numbers, anyone who won’t tell you his Ranger School class number is a phony.
Now you tell me! I coulda been a contender!
Also, was Bulot ever assigned to an RC Special Forces unit like the 11th or 12th Group (USAR) or 19th or 20th Group (ARNG?)
Because up until about the mid 1980’s it was possible to get a “paper tab” in RC SF units and never darken the door of the JFKSWCS.
The “paper tab” worked like this: The soldier went to a 2 week “Phase 1” Summer Camp run by the ARNG or USAR SF units, then spent the next year training for their specific MOS during drill weekends and also taking correspondence courses. If those were successfully passed, then the next Summer the soldier would go through a “Phase III” summer camp and at the end they were awarded their flash or tab (before the SF tab was created in 1983, SF Qualification was indicated by the soldier wearing a “full flash” behind the SF crest or rank insignia on their beret instead of the “candy stripe” worn by non-SF qualified soldiers. After the tab was introduced, all soldiers that were previously awarded the “full flash” were retroactively awarded the long tab)
So, given Bulot’s dates of service, I wonder if it’s possible he was in a RC SF unit and qualified that way. If that was the case he might not show up on the JFKSWCS database.
Sorry for the question – but wouldn’t his assignment to a RC SF unit show up on his 2-1? Should be easy to go to the unit and ask them if they have anything on him that shows he went through and completed training.

Back in the 70’s and 80’s there wasn’t a lot of record sharing between the National Guard and the Regular Army. I was in the Guard from 83 to 86 and none of my National Guard assignments show up on my active duty DD-214. Now that they’re automated I think they’ve integrated them more but back then they were kept separate.
Same is true for medical records, BTW.
This is spot on Martinjmpr…ARNG for me from 1977-1983 minimal info between the two sets of papers I received when I was done with the NG…and I could probably have gotten away with a lot of the shit you describe above….I just was done though and was glad to get any paperwork…at that time the Guard was paying guys to turn in all their clothing and uniforms…So I did that as well, keeping only my boots and Field Jacket…all my pickle suit fatigues and dress uniforms were returned for money…at the time the money seemed more important than memories…how little I knew then. It was small money as well…

One of my winter projects this year is going to be finally sorting through multiple boxes of military records so they make some semblance of sense. Since my service was in all 3 components of the army (RA, NG and AR) my records are a bit of a mess but in case my wife needs to make a claim I don’t want her to have to try and sort through the records.
One thing is certain about Albert Vernon “Colt” Bullot, he could not be awarded the Ranger Tab without attending and successfully completing the 8 or 9 week course while assigned to the RTB at Benning. There was no Ranger correspondence course.

I landed in my first unit back in early 93, and even Pvt Andy would have had serious doubts about a buck sgt sporting long and short tabs. I wonder who or how he got those tabs added to his records? No way Kennedy School and the RTB could both loose all records of him having gotten his tabs. I guess he’s been rocking the lie so long, he will never drop it.
We saw people like this show up in Afghanistan with units, and always just assumed they were shitbags/duds that got told don’t try to re-enlist and managed to in to a Reserve unit when they got out because the paperwork never followed. We were usually correct in our assumption. In one case (only) it turned out the guy screwed up just before his re-enlistment, and got out, but for some reason the Army took another stripe when he came back in to the reserves (I had only heard it the other way going reserves to active duty you can lose a stripe), he was squared away and we got along well.
First time I’ve seen anybody from the 11th Cav claim to be anything other than a Blackhorse soldier.
I see 20 medals listed, and I don’t know what’s legit and what’s not legit. Can anyone fill me in on this. Awhile ago you had Capt. Sherrow listed as an embelisher in the ARNG out in Huntington LI NY. The name was fuzzy and I then remembered him at some point. I was in the same unit. I sent Jonn a copy of my DD214 when the article was posted. While I’m on the subject, I remember enlisting in 1975 and leaving in 1977 but my DD214 has my time of service from 1976 Feb. to 1978 Feb. Would this be some kind of fiscal year thing. I don’t know. I vaguely remember Capt. Sherrow saying that he served in Viet Nam. He also had us wearing our load bearing gear over our panchos while at our two week stint up at Fort Drum. He also wanted us to crawl through concertina wire while explosives were going off on the sides of the crawl lanes. A lot of the Vets didn’t care too much for that idea and the kabash was put on it.I wish I could remember more. I think that I will check out his DD214 in the stolen valor section.

After VN and a short stint at the Big Red One I ETS’d in Jan 1973. Went on with life, job, college. When out of the blue about summer of 1975 I get orders of activation from the Inactive Reserve to report for duty at Ft Drum for 2 weeks training. 2,000 were orderd up and only about 50 personnel showed. I refused to cut my hair too…wasn’t that damn long. As I’m writing this I remember the NYNG unit Capt Denny’s name. We were all assigned to him to form up as an aggressor force. What a rag tag bunch of discontents we were! But we decided to have some fun…and did we ever. So much so, after capturing the General in their mess hall tent, I was dressed down by this asshole…I think it was this dufus. It was the last day…. told him to fuck off and we got into our M-112/113 tracks and headed out to drink beer. Circled up and here comes this jeep flying through the dust and I already had my dander up….It was a Col….and I started cursing him out that they were not prepared for a damn thing. BTW, I had been made the acting LT of our aggressor force and we had beat the crap out of all of ’em, everyday …must’ve hid my hair under my cap good. LOL Anyway, the Col finally got my attention and congratulated all of us! Whew! For a while thought wouldn’t be going back to Sweet Home Alabama for a while! There’s a lot more to the story, but it’d take too long. There were some good troops in that unit and the PANG who we ‘fought’, but their Jr officer and Captain level leadership was just downright pitiful. Just friggin pitiful! Oh yeah, Capt Denny who was supposedly over us (think Major Burns in MASH) was made the hero!

I started getting all personnel awards, campaign awards and unit awards officiating documents etc a year before I retired. Had most anyway but didn’t want to ever be embarrassed like so many leaders were being outed then . By the time I sat down with the GS-8 in the DD-214 office, I don’t recall her asking for the files I had. I read them off to her and she entered them on my DD-214. I still have them all in my safe in case it ever gets weird. I have the actual awards and ALL the sign offs prior to getting it. Did it for my kids and grandkids so I never have to be accused of being a phony and embarrass them CAPT Bones USN (ret)
26Lima; I looked at his DD214 and saw that he was the CC out in Huntington Station LI, NY starting on July 17, 1976. Something screwy going on because LT Neil Lindstrom was the CC, and I remember him giving myself and the other NCO’S the lists with members names on them to call if we were activated. This was just before the 1976 Bi Centenial and they didn’t know if there would be a problem. I joined in 1975 and we had a Nassau County PO who drove Sherrow and when sherrow left, LT Linstrom took over but he and the LEO did not see eye to eye, and the LT had me as his driver. The 214 has Sherrow assigned to another duty station after Huntington and is dated as 1985 or 6, I forgot. Neil signed my 214 in 1977 when I packed it in. I left because I just Joined the East Rockaway Vol FD and wanted to dedicate my time there so these dates are very confusing. I just wish I could remember, and I shit canned the phone numbers of the Company members that I was responsible for.

So Colt Bulot, I see you posted your medical form to attend Ranger Training. I also note that it was signed off with the same felt marker used to black out the PII data. It would not be accepted by the admin folks at Ranger Training Brigade (RTB) due to its strange statement of fully qualified for random secret squirrel operations, which have nothing to do with Ranger Training. It also has a date of 1982, but is a 2018 form. Why would the Ranger School be doing your medical tests to get in? Did your unit forget to send them in? Hope you liked the finger poke!

Having attended many a Ranger Class, but only graduating in one, I don’t recall ever having to see a doctor to graduate! You submit your medical acceptability as part of your entrance packet… you might want to fix that date on your form, it says 1982 (but your form is new). Also the doctor who signed off on your form seems to have used the same felt tip marker that blacked out all the PII. He also forgot his little stamp that proves he is a doctor…and the one that says “Fully Qualified”

The date the form is filled out is indeed Nov 7th, 1982. But the FORM ITSELF is a recently updated version, as recently as last month. Lazy as hell forgery.

We have to wonder whether ol’ Colt Bulot has a time machine, since the only way his medical form could be legit is if he had one so he could take this updated form of 2018 vintage back in time to 1982 to have it filled out pre-Ranger school. But then he would have to flash forward eight weeks to have it signed off after graduation from Ranger School.
Note to Colt: People who graduate Ranger School and are awarded the tab don’t go through a routine physical after the fact for the RTB. This is because no one who gets the tab at the end is in need of a physical to check if they are medically qualified for a combat arms position. By graduation, the school has already weeded out every one who is physically unfit for duty, by accident, illness or otherwise, period. The only physical one has to pass is the one before acceptance to the course. Weak willies like you wouldn’t have made it through the first phase of Ranger School.

If a form was signed in 1982, it would have to be a form in use in 1982. A form introduced in 2018 can not have been signed in 1982.

Go back to that form, and look at the lower left-hand corner. It says, DD Form 2807-1 OCT 2018. Your records above indicate that you are in the retired reserve. I don’t think that you are eligible for training, at the government’s expense, as a member of the retired reserve unless you have been activated.
Also, the doctor isn’t going to recommend future schools, as that’s outside of his lane. A doctor would medically clear you, give a medical recommendation (for or against), or give a general assessment. Your comments, in the Doctor’s comment section, are pure baloney.
