  • Monday Morning Meltdown over MSNBC at DU

I like the alliteration of that. I read it, so you don’t have to. And lord knows these mental midgets do make me laugh.

—-SERIOUSLY, I SAY BOYCOTT MSNBC–OTHER Than Rachel & Keith!!—
DO NOT turn them on for ANYTHING but those 2 shows. This is the ONLY way they will learn. Coontact their advertisers too!

    F[udgesicles] this rightwing bull[ivaw] media!!

Wait, you’re boycotting MSNBC? Um, that makes no sense.

    1corona4u (1000+ posts) Mon Sep-15-08 12:12 PM
    7. Yes, it’s ENOUGH!!
We need to REALLY do this. If we watch NOTHING but Keith & Rachel, maybe they will GET IT. I know we are a small amount in the grand scheme of things, but WHY dignify them with watching their OTHER BULLS[emen] RIGHT WING CRAP. There are a LOT of people who watch the other shows, supposedly for recon, but THAT boost their ratings, and I don’t think we should be giving them that satisfaction!!!

If people don’t think this will matter, then keep on doing it, but I will NOT watch them other than for Keith and Rachel, and the rest of the people who DO, can sit and BITCH about the biased reporting and comments, and know that they are helping to keep that going.

    but….but…..but…..

    5. Doesn’t this only matter for registered Nielson viewers? No one is going to know what I watched.

GodlessBiker, did you come to school on the shortbus without your tin foil hat again? /scolding voice

cable companies report viewers, and so do the satellite companies. Dish does it, and so does Direct. Oh, and they also report on who records what.

If only we had someone with the tactical expertise to plan this out… Absent that, let’s fall back on nihilism…

    6. Unfortunately, we the people do not have enough power or influence to bring about any change
in the way the media spew for the pukes.

Even IF every Democrat swore off the tube and contacted every advertiser, the boycott would not be enough to prevent the corporations that own our airwaves and cable access from shilling for the party that owns them. And considering that it is impossible to get a boycott with anything approaching 10% participation, that is not the way to go.

IF you really want to influence what is aired, you have to make the costs of that higher for the individuals involved. Do you really think the talking heads care about what they say? As long as their paycheck clears, they are willing to do what they are told.

The system cannot be changed without attacking its weak point – that being the people who bring you the message. Anything else is just feel-good rationalization that you are doing “something” and totally ineffective.

I look forward to the day that using all the weapons at their disposal, including but not limited to profligate (and possibly excessive) exclamation point usage, the DUmmies remake the world.

  • I don’t know whether to feel relieved or let down

Today I received my semi-weekly Code Pink email. Honestly, they bring much mirth into my otherwise staid existence. And believe you me, I need some mirth today. (I am putting the evils of drink and fast women behind me, as of today, you read it here first.) Anyway, today’s missive came with the title:

    A Million Knockers for Peace

Now, any thought that this would be 500,000 attractive women doing that “Breasts not Bombs” thing is immediately dispensed with when you stop to remember this is Code Pink. [Insert your own shudder here.]

    Anyway:

Dear TSO you sexy bastard you,

September 11 reminds us not only of the tragic events of 2001 but also how Bush’s post-attack strategy has squandered so many lives and resources. While the Bush administration closed the door on those who advocated an alternative response, we now have an opportunity to open doors, the doors in our neighborhoods, as part of an unprecedented effort to knock on A Million Doors for Peace.

On Saturday, September 20, we invite you to join CODEPINK and our allies from 18 peace and justice organizations across the country as we engage our neighbors and ask them to sign a petition urging the next Congress to bring our troops home within a year. We hope to reach one million citizens who long for peace but are unsure how to work toward it.

Wow is that a “liberace and N’sync together in a hot tub listening to Boy George” level gay idea. Seriously. I hope you come to my house. You know, when I am watching college football to cleanse the knowledge that I have insufficiently longed for peace and am unsure how to work for it.

Thank you for opening your own doors for peace!
Alicia, Anne, Dana, Deidra, Desiree, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Jean, Jodie, Liz, Lori, Medea, Nancy, Rae and Tighe

Don’t you dare show up at my house without Midge, the Code Pink transgendered Peace Activist. Atleast s/he is a Navy Veteran.

For the record, on the list of scary things to TSO, “seeing half a million naked Code Pink activists” comes right after “Seeing Tom Brady blow out his ACL in the first 7 minutes of the season” and right before “Being forced to see Sex in the City in order to get lucky.”

  • Today’s Profligate Hysteria of the Day award goes to:

Douglas Carpenter of Democratic Underground, COME ON DOWN! You are the inaugural recipient of my semi-often Profligate Hysteria of the Day award! Your award winning post brings credit on you, Democratic Underground, and the United Peoples of Moonbatistan!

Whatever the result of the November election, Sarah Palin is the scariest politician to appear on the national scene in a generation…

Like many demagogues she has demonstrated an ability to wrap a right-wing extremist message in the language and imagery of working class populism to Orwellian levels – and she and her handlers are very, very good at it – so far, anyway.

MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT!! This is a VERY dangerous development, whatever the result of the November election!!

She can also make some killer flap jacks!! (note the use of 2 exclamation marks, which denotes actual fear, excitement or psychosis not properly signified by the use of only 1)

Again it is entirely possible that the whole thing could fizzle or implode. For the sake of the country and the world and the future of humanity, I certainly hope so.

For the sake of the country, the world and the future of humanity? What about animals, Gaia, the Romulan Empire and Charlie the Unicorn? Would they not also be threatened by a VP Palin?

And seriously, are you telling me that Palin strikes more fear in your heart that Cheney? Thank you Douglas Carpenter, now go do that voodoo, that you do so well!!! (Three exclamations this time as I am up in cheering in my office, tears unashamedly streaming down my face at the patriotic dissent of this valiant man.)

  • BWAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, and down with Di-Hydrogen Monoxide!!

    Jonn added; TSO is trying to post a Live Leak video, but my video player plug in doesn’t work with Live Leak. So here’s the URL;

    a) Anorexia

    b) Structural Engineering

    c) Lucidity

    d) Grammar

    e) all of the above.

Everyone probably saw this last night.

So, it was a little girl playing with a baby.  Hell, even I thought it was kinda cute.  Well, not the DUmmys.

    6. Piper is absolutely adorable. The whole family is photogenic.
And Sarah has no business dragging them through all of this crap. I feel very sorry for these kids. Hopefully, the family will have the common sense to keep the little ones from going through the check-out lines @ the grocery stores over the next few months. Geez. A journalism major with skeletons galore – knowing full well what she’d be subjecting her children to – nice call – putting ambition ahead of her family’s best interests. The integrity just oozes from her pores.

    9. it is cute, but it also seems like she expected to take care of him
just as the other daughters were probably expected to take care of her.

the way all the sisters hold him looks more like the way a parent would than sisters. and the opposite is true of the parents. the sisters seem much more affectionate.

i think it’s because they might be brought up that way. taking care of each other.

Thank you DU. Seriously. Keep doing what you are doing.

More DU: Now with extra nutty goodness.

    22. In every YouTube and teevee shot
there’s Trig – a 4-month old being passed around and handed off from one person to another. This video is appealing on one level because Piper is such an adorable child looking after her little brother. But geesh – it was kinda late at night for little peeps to be out in the first place, wasn’t it? I found myself wishing Trig and Piper were both in their jammies in their respective beds sound asleep dreaming sweet dreams…instead of on public display.

That’s an excellent point You Who Will Never Give Up.  But, here on planet Earth, the earth revolves around on its axis, roughly once a day.  Being that Minnesota is EAST of Alaska, that means the sun comes up earlier there.  Logically, you can also probably discover that the sun goes down in Alaska later in the Evening.  Now, you may have noticed pictures of the Palin family flying in.  So, let me riddle you this Moonbatman:  If the Palin’s had forced the kids to adjust to the Time Change after less than 24 hours, would you have been the first or the second person to suggest that Child Protective Services be called because they were torturing the kids?  Or, is it your position that children need to be in their Jammies and asleep by 7 pm generally?  Also, an astute observer might have noted that little Trig appeared to be asleep the whole time.

I was, however, in my jammies when I watched it in case you were concerned.  Little Boston Red Sox ones.  alas, without the plastic feeties.

  • The DU response to the latest on the Arkansas shooting

    From KPMH:

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) – Police are exploring possible links between the Arkansas Democratic Party chairman who was gunned down in his office yesterday and his killer.

The victim, Bill Gwatney, was fatally shot by Timothy Dale Johnson, who was then killed by officers after a 30-minute chase.

Authorities say a search of the dead gunman’s home turned up 14 guns, antidepressants, his last will and testament and a Post-It note that bore his victim’s last name and a telephone number.

Gwatney owned three Little Rock area car dealerships and the search of Johnson’s home turned up two sets of keys for vehicles from Gwatney car lots.

  • Good on Canada!

     hinzman.bmp

    From CNN:
TORONTO, Ontario (AP) One of the first U.S. Army deserters from Iraq to seek refugee status in Canada has been ordered deported.

Jeremy Hinzman said Wednesday he was ordered out of the country by September 23 by Canada’s Border Services Agency.

Hinzman deserted the U.S. Army in 2004 after learning his unit was to be deployed to Iraq. He refused to participate in what he calls an immoral and illegal war.

Naturally the lefties are crying. This here was my favorite part:

Back in the States, when his orders for Iraq came, Hinzman felt he had only two choices: disobey tem and risk prison, or flee the country.

Prison was not an option. “I have already missed a large chunk of my young son’s life and I was willing to sacrifice any more lost time with him, especially during his formative years,” he said.

I look forward to the day when the son asks him “Hey daddy, what did you do during the war?”

I heroically ran away to Canada, like the Brave Sir Robin.

  • DU: Limbaugh et al behind Arkansas shooting (“Assassination”)

Facts? We don’t need no stinking facts!

Sadly Inevitable. There will be more. That said, it is a sad commentary that such brutal events may serve to break up the complacency and magical thinking in our own ranks. I repeat: There will be more of these horrible events between now and November and if we win, after as well.

These talk radio hosts need to be stopped.

They are pushing fragile people over the edge with their hateful bile.

I am afraid there will be more

Not to be harsh, but as an out gay man in the south Alabama, Fla now NC. I know first hand what kind of hate is out there. When I lived in Fla I had occasion to hear rash limpd k spew about how nasty gay people are and libruls etc. I thought even way back then that it has to have some effect on the unstable righties and sooner or later this kind of stuff would be happening.

    librechik (1000+ posts) Wed Aug-13-08 01:48 PM

…haven’t we all been expecting this since the church shooting?

or, since Limbaugh decided to tell his people to kill us?

    41. Wrong! Those right wingnut radio hosts are always encouraging their off balanced wingnut listeners to do violence. It’s enough to make them think that they are doing whats best for them and the country because of the bullshit the host is spewing. If it was a liberal station doing the same, it would suddenly be illegal.

Of course we don’t yet know what happened in this case, but we have seen this kind of thing again and again and it comes back as retaliation for abortion, gay, anti gun blah blah blah. THat’s why so many people automatically jump to the conclusion that it was a fucktard wingnut at the trigger.

He asked to see the chairman rather than ask for someone by name after all.

The republicans are assholes that think killing is ok. If you happen to know of any real close by…tell them I said so.

Dude, I have no clue why this unbalanced maniac attacked someone, but neither does DU. I love the fact that they are all CSI DU with little to no evidence except the dude was white and had a pickup truck.

UPDATE: Looks like there is a tear in the Time/Space/Moonbat continuum as apparently Michelle Malkin is also an accomplice.  No one yet has blamed This Ain’t Hell which I am sure this loon had bookmarked.
