  • I am (still) waiting on the VoteVets apology to T-Paw Pawlenty

Remember a few weeks ago when I defended Pawlenty? You can go re-read it now if you would like. VoteVets in their paean to misplaced, ill-conceived rage quoted Senator Murphy:

“For money that was supposed to go to fund things for veterans going to fund people in the governor’s office, it’s outrageous,” said Murphy, DFL-Red Wing, a Marine veteran. “The governor runs around telling everyone he’s cutting all these budgets, and then he back-door fills in his own department. I’m just disgusted with this.”

But, a funny thing happened at the forum:

“I didn’t know what we were using the money for,” Murphy said. “Any time the governor’s office has been involved in negotiations that I’ve been involved with, it hasn’t come out very good. That’s why I questioned the program. I was wrong. The money has been well spent.”

Now, kind of been sitting on this waiting for the VoteVets apology, since it hasn’t been forthcoming, I figure I will post this to show what hypocritical shitbags and dishonest charlatans they are.

Mind you, I’ve been commenting over there lately and keep getting troll rated when I say something that proves that dicksmith is a lying f-wad, so I guess I will just keep the battle here in hopes that a) someone will go back and let them know, and b) Lilyea will give me my much deserved raise for profligate posting.

  • Just me, or is Tom acting like he has been stricken with Teh Ghey?

You turned out my lights on January 11, and they won’t be back on until April 4.

  • LGF: Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon are right wing nuts

Well, I mean, one can assume that from his logic.

To Michelle Malkin, if President Obama shows any sign of being even slightly happy about the success of his health care reform bill, it’s “gloating.”

And in the comments for her thread (among dozens of comments talking about buying food, guns, and ammunition, joining militias, and going on “a war footing”), “Snowfire” tries to raise the plummeting morale by posting the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley — which also happens to be the final statement of Timothy McVeigh.

How irelevant can this douchetool make himself? I hear Hitler liked to ride a bike, ergo Charles is a Nazi. Richard Reed and Charles Manson sported pony tails, ergo Charles is a bomber and a serial murderer.

  • Geek question, STNG related

I just know I will take a ton of shit for this one, but wanted some help, since Google failed me.

In the Star Trek Next Generation episode of the Inner Light, Picard learns to play a tin whistle. Anyway, the final scene is him playing a song on it. I want to know what that song was. First correct answer gets my long living appreciation. I want to see specifically if that song can be played on a bagpipe as well, so extra credit to anyone that finds the sheet music. Would like played at my upcoming nuptials.

BTW- not frere jacques, the other song.

UPDATE: Damn you dudes move fast. Here is the song:

  • Defending (dooming?) T-Paw Pawlenty.

    225px-tim_pawlenty_official_photo1

Tim Pawlenty is my choice for President in 2012. This is not good news for Pawlenty. I’ve always believed in voting for the best Man or Woman, who often times (not coincidentally) turn out to have run REALLY SHITTY CAMPAIGNS. Case in point, my two horses in 2008, George Allen and Fred Thompson. Both I thought were outstanding, and both campaigns were absolutely horrid. Anyway, I have reached out to the Pawlenty Campaign through my people, and didn’t get anything in reply. Actually, I don’t have people, I just have a person who knows Tim who is a friend, and more so has been a mentor to me. I don’t know what my friend’s political stripe is, and without giving too much away on his identity, he’s the only person I ever heard of working for a Democrat, a Republican and an Independent Governor.

Anyway, I won’t hold Pawlenty responsible for not calling a blogger who ekes out his existence in the middle of the milblogs. I know he has important things to do, and I shouldn’t doom him with my endorsement, but there you have it. In fact, I will go one step further and say I would like Mike Pence of Indiana to be his running mate. (Only because Jim Marshall of GA, Chet Edwards of TX, and Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin are all Dems.) Tim and Mike: Midwestern Values, Down Home Common Sense. There, I even gave them a campaign slogan.

Pawlenty has proven he can be elected, even in a wacky state like Minnesota. He’s not a purist, and believe you me I want one, but he’s managed to do well by Minnesota, and doing so with a Democratic state House. I know he’s not flashy, but again, I think I have had enough flashy of late, don’t you? Enough Rock Stars and Hope, more Show Me the Money. Some of you will probably say he has no shot, and others that you never heard of him: so be it, long way to go.

Anyway, the point is that VoteVets is already hammering his ass, and as is not uncommon, they didn’t bother to tell the whole story. First, what Dicksmith says about him after the jump:

  • Who is our Moses?

As I drove home to let my clinically insane dog out of his cage to take a dump, I was listening to the radio. And as I scanned I came across Glenn Beck. I have never listened to his show, but thought what the hell, might as well now. Anyway, he said something interesting, and I am TOTALLY paraphrasing here:

Look, when they were building the pyramids, a lot of slaves got crushed in the rocks. Lots of them. They didn’t stop, they just left the guy in there are brought up more stones. Happens again, and no one did anything. And this happened hundreds of times, and no one said anything. And then Moses came and said “Let my people go” and led them out of Egypt. Because no one else had taken any interest, and Moses came and promised horrible things from the Power on High, and delivered. And the slaves became Freemen and moved on. This message, and the preceeding 1/2 hour of our show brought to you by the people who know that Gold is a commodity we need in times like this…..

First off, the Gold part. I agree. Just this weekend I dumped all my investments in Gold though to pay for the healthcare of XBlackheart, Dreadbeard (Claymore), PastyEunuch (Brown Neck Gaitor), Milbe, Photara (Mrs. Claymore) and myself. It took the form of these beauties:
    prots-of-life

But, to Beck’s question: Who is our Moses? I hear Paul Ryan’s name being thrown around a lot, and I do genuinely like the guy, but he caved on several money issues in the past, and everyone seems to be ignoring those discrepancies now. So, I throw it out to you, who is that guy? I have my theory, and I will be sharing it in a bit as I defend him from some asshattery from who else but Vote Vets.

  • Now that the deed ‘tis done, how will it affect you? (Part I)

Cross Posted from The Burn Pit.

    Veteran

Lots of heated rhetoric floating around out there, and I want to leap in.

[Part II of this will discuss the effects that this will have on the VA.]

The big question everyone has is: how will this affect me, the VA/TRICARE/TRICARE-for-life individual? Well, let’s start by looking at what some of the others are saying, and then try to cut the middle. Separate the wheat from the chaff, as it were.

The only folks I have found thus far that think this thing is just great for veterans and their families is VoteVets. Now, mind you the MoveOn.org affiliated group is also citing some Harvard study of how many veterans die without health insurance that is based on nothing but comparing the number of deaths with the percent of veterans, so take it for what it is worth:

The right has spent a good portion of the debate over health care reform engaging in scare tactics aimed at Veterans and Retirees (and when not doing that, have engaged in the demonizing of government health care begging the question why our Veterans would get health care that is somehow substandard, but I digress). Today, VA seeks to put those fears to rest…

[Duckworth statement that deals with VA]

The author of that statement is, of course, Tammy Duckworth, Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs, a double combat amputee who left both her legs in Iraq. As the vote on health care reform draws near, expect to see more shameful fear-mongering directed at the Veteran community– a slimy political tactic that falls well beneath the measure of service Vets have given to our country.

Now, not long after that, VFW went live with its statement:

“The president and the Democratic leadership are betraying America’s veterans,” said Thomas J. Tradewell Sr., a combat-wounded Vietnam veteran from Sussex, Wis., who leads the 2.1 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliaries.

“And what makes matters worse is the leadership and the president knows the bill is flawed, yet they are pushing for passage today like it’s a do-or-die situation. This nation deserves the best from their elected officials, and the rush to pass legislation of this magnitude is not it.”

And of course, VoteVets returned the salvo:

VFW PAC operates as little more than a subsidiary of the Republican Party, as does the leadership of their parent organization.

Today, that organization issued a statement toeing the GOP line on the health care vote. Of course, in order to toe that line, the VFW had to make things up.

    Remainder after the jump.

Have a Guinness for me. Actually, I am on my way out now to have a few myself during the Indianapolis St Padraig’s Day Parade.

After the jump, some of the best Irish music you should already know about. The best of the Irish bands in my opinion. (DKM, Flogging Molly, Blood or Whiskey, Pogues and The Dubliners)
