Warren homeowner shoots man who had broken into his house
    By ED RUNYAN

    WARREN

Kenneth York, his wife, Heather, and their dog woke up to noises outside of their Hall Street Northwest home at around 1 a.m. Tuesday. They were sleeping on the first floor.

Kenneth got up and armed himself with a handgun he was keeping not far away and headed toward the noises at the back door.

It was dark there, but Kenneth could see a large man breaking a glass panel in the door, apparently with a shovel.

“I asked, “What the hell are you doing? Get out of here,’” Kenneth recalled Tuesday afternoon.

“I mean he came in anyway, so I backed up behind the refrigerator that’s in the other room, stuck the gun out and said, ‘I got a gun. I’ll shoot you.’

“And he come right at me. He kept coming at me. I said ‘Stop, stop,’ so I backed up a little bit. He come through the doorway, and I shot him. He went back in the kitchen.”

As if that were not enough, then the burglar said to Kenneth: “What size a gun is that?’ I said, ‘big enough to kill you.’ And he come at me again. And then his arm started hurting and then he must have got dizzy or something. I said ‘Sit your [butt] down.’ And he kind of collapsed in there.”

Damn you’re easy. I couldn’t have baited this post more heavily if I had used a trowel. Ya’see, Cthulhu, folks here have petty long memories, and your writing style- self serving, verbose, and argumentative, brings back some. This is coupled with your ISP address’ uncanny similarity to another one from “United States Berkeley University Of California At Berkeley.” Just come clean and ‘fess up, Lars. Or is it better to recognize you as “Major Lars REDACTED, USAR?”
Circumstantial? Sure. But men have gone to the gallows on such evidence.
I’ll postulate that with Jonn’s passing you thought you could weasel your way back in here, and you did. For a while.
I’m a second tier Admin here with limited permissions, so I can’t ban you outright. I can edit your comments or make them disappear, though. If you fess up, I may let you continue to comment until Management returns and deals with you as they will.

President Donald Trump ridiculed the environmentalist left on Wednesday by pointing out record cold temperatures.
    By Charlie Spiering

“Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS,” he wrote on Twitter. “Whatever happened to Global Warming?”

“Forecasts predicted bitter cold conditions in New York City, with 10-20 degree weather and 15-20 mph winds. Washington, DC is also expected to suffer lower than normal temperatures of 20 degrees.”

“The lower than normal temperatures are the result of an area of high pressure in the Arctic Circle, sending a blast of cold air south, according to meteorologists.”

Record cold in NYC for he Macy’s Day Parade.

The temperature dipped to 20 degrees just before the 9 a.m. EST start, breaking the previous record low for the event of 21 degrees, marked in 1930, 1938 and 1972 according to USA Today.

  • South Korea unearths nine sets of war dead remains during DMZ mine-clearing operation

s koreaU.S. Army General Vincent K. Brooks, Commander of United Nations Command, visited Arrowhead Hill in the Demilitarized Zone, where Republic of Korea forces are currently conducting de-mining operations, Oct. 8, 2018. The ongoing landmine removal will enable safe access for joint recovery of remains operations and is part of a broader effort to reduce military tensions, prevent accidental clashes and build trust between North and South Korea. Coordinated for release with MND. (SGT Benjamin Parsons/U.S. Army)

South Korea has unearthed nine sets of remains of war dead, including a rare, relatively intact skeleton, during a mine-clearance operation inside the heavily fortified border that divides the peninsula, the military said Monday.

The return of remains from the 1950-53 Korean War, including 55 cases containing the remains of American troops who were lost in North Korea, has been a bright spot in otherwise slow diplomatic efforts to persuade the North to give up its nuclear weapons.

The defense ministry announced it had recovered five sets of remains, including one that “appears to be complete,” last week during work in the Cheorwon area northeast of Seoul. It released a photo of the skeleton, which still had a shoe on one foot.

“All the five sets have been determined during the on-site investigation to be the remains of war dead,” the ministry said in a press release. They will be sent to the ministry’s agency for the recovery and identification of troops killed in action, known as MAKRI, for DNA analysis and further identification.

The total number of remains found since the operation began Oct. 1 at Arrowhead Hill is now nine. The site saw fierce fighting during the war, which ended in an armistice instead of a peace treaty.

Major fighting at Arrowhead, also known as Hill 281, involved American, French, South Korean and Chinese forces, according to retired Lt. Col. Steve Tharp, a military history expert who is researching the battles. The North Koreans were farther east and would not have been involved, he said.

That word you use, ‘gunlock.’ I do not think it means what you think it means.
Man shot in Gulfport walked into pawn shop with a sledgehammer, broke glass, took a gun, worker says
By John Fitzhugh and Robin Fitzgerald

Gulfport — Workers at a downtown pawn shop say they fired shots at a robber who then found himself being shot at by police on Monday night.

The man walked into 24 Hour Quick Cash & Pawn with a sledge hammer and said he wanted to look at TVs, said a pawn shop employee who gave only his first name, John.

Pawn shop workers didn’t think anything about the man coming in with a sledge hammer Monday afternoon because the shop buys tools, he said. John said he followed the man to the TV section.

“But we didn’t make it that far back. He stopped immediately at the guns and smashed a glass cabinet with the sledgehammer and grabbed a gun and started running.

“We let off about four rounds and then we heard about three more rounds coming back to us,” John said. “I assumed he was shooting back at us.”

John said he hadn’t been worried about the man firing at them with the stolen gun.

“The gun had a gun lock on it,” he said.

It’s unclear whose shots wounded the man, identified as Anthony Moody.

Official says deadly shooting Tuesday morning was justifiable
    By: WBRZ Staff

BATON ROUGE – Officials believe a shooting that allegedly stemmed from a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning was a justifiable killing.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on North Marque Ann Drive. Police say 44-year-old Kendral Muse was shot at the home and taken to a hospital where he later died.

“It appeared this woman was put into a situation where she was injured and was required to defend herself,” District Attorney Hillar Moore said. “We believe this point as much as we know now that she took justifiable action.”

A police spokesperson said a female suspect was taken into custody and questioned. That person, who police said was dating Muse, has since been released.

The exact details surrounding the shooting are unclear, but this time of year authorities typically see an increase in domestic violence.

  • Vietnam hero awarded the Navy Cross

1st Sgt. John Lord, is presented with the Navy Cross

Ret. Marine 1st Sgt. John Lord honored at ball; four fellow unit members present
    By Katy Sword

Today’s Guest Post is brought to us by HMCS(FMF).

Fifty years after Ret. Marine 1st Sgt. John Lord led his unit through an ambush during the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Navy Cross for his efforts.

The Navy Cross is the second highest award a Marine can receive, outranked only by the Medal of Honor.

Lord first received the Bronze Star for his efforts in 1975, seven years after he put himself in the crosshairs of a hidden North Vietnamese Army battalion to rescue his wounded comrades.

On that fateful day, July 28, 1968, Lord’s platoon commander and senior leadership were wounded during an ambush. Lord “unhesitatingly maneuvered across the fire-swept terrain and skillfully deployed the platoon against the enemy,” according to the award citation.

Lord then located one of the few remaining operational radios and began directing air support until reinforcements could arrive, all while rescuing his injured comrades.

The day after the battle, Ret. Lt. Col. Michael Sweeney began advocating for the Navy Cross on Lord’s behalf for his heroic actions. Forty-three years later, Sweeney’s efforts were realized.

Lord traveled from his home in Mesa, Ariz., to receive the award with family in Vancouver during the Marine Corps Birthday Ball on Saturday. The ceremony itself was a break in tradition, but a break considered by the hundreds in attendance worthwhile to recognize the 2,460th Marine to ever receive the Navy Cross.

“It is one of the greatest honors of my career,” said an emotional Lt. Col. Health Freeman before introducing Lord. “It’s because of the love and faithfulness of those he served with and those he served under … his award was upgraded and that was so rightfully deserved.”

In between a 12 sword salute and the traditional birthday cake presentation, Lord was finally presented with the Navy Cross 43-years in the making.

Homeowner shoots man who allegedly used boulder to break into home

Brings a rock to, well, you know.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A would-be burglar smashed into a home using a giant rock, but he didn’t know the homeowner was inside with a gun, prepared to protect his family.

The homeowner is so scared, he went to get his concealed carry permit Monday.

“I looked at my phone and it was like two o’clock in the morning. Nobody should be here,” said Bill Wright, who was caught off guard over the weekend by an unexpected visitor. “He started banging on the doors really hard and aggressively, started punching the doors.”

Wright is still dealing with the effects of last week’s ice storm, with no power and no lights.

“When he ran around the back and disappeared around the back I thought, this is going up another level,” Wright said. “And that’s when I went and got my gun.”

The man behind the burglary, according to police paperwork, is Dustin Miller. According to police paperwork, Miller tried to kick in Wright’s door. When he didn’t get too far with that – he walked off.

When he came back, the homeowner claims he picked up a boulder, threw it into the door and shattered all the glass.

“I was only eight feet from him,” Wright said, which is when he said he fired two warning shots. But Miller continued to aggressively charge toward the him.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two suspects are in custody after police say they forced their way into a woman’s home Monday morning at Coach House Apartments at 114th Street and Holmes Road.

Police said the home invasion wasn’t random and that the suspects came to the woman’s apartment for a reason. Police are investigating the connection.

“There was an exchange of fire between the homeowner and the suspects. The homeowner was not struck, and the suspects fled the scene,” KCPD spokesman Sgt. Jake Becchina said.

A short time later, one of the suspects who was shot showed up at a nearby hospital.

Later Monday, police arrested the other suspect at a house about two miles away from the apartment. Another man in the house was also arrested on a separate charge.
