  • NCIS documents cast doubt on Navy SEAL’s guilt in slaying of Islamic State fighter

Chinks are appearing in the NCIS case against SOC Gallagher, in the form of two senior members of the elite Iraqi Emergency Response Division, and their interviews.

Two high-ranking Iraqi military leaders with close ties to the SEALs cast doubt on the case military prosecutors have formed against Special Operations Chief Edward “Eddie” Gallagher, who’s accused of murdering a wounded prisoner of war, according to records provided to Navy Times.

Their transcribed interviews contradict nearly every aspect of the federal case against Gallagher, 39, who faces up to 18 criminal counts, including premeditated murder for allegedly stabbing to death a badly wounded Islamic State detainee near the Iraqi city of Mosul on May 3, 2017.

A report prepared by the Naval Criminal Investigate Service on Oct. 22 — five weeks after Gallagher was arrested by federal agents and incarcerated in the Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar in San Diego — includes an interview in Baghdad with Iraqi Emergency Response Division commander Maj. Gen. Abbas al-Jubouri and his aide, Col. Issa Kadhim.

The ERD is the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior’s elite special forces unit, and both al-Jubouri and Kadhim worked closely with Gallagher’s SEAL platoon during anti-Islamic State clearing operations in northern Iraq in 2017.

Although painted by prosecutors as a sadistic SEAL sniper who took pot shots at Iraqi civilians, including children, al-Jubouri considered “Chief Ed” to be “always professional and I always worked so close to him,” according to his translated interview with an NCIS agent.

SF paper: Trump’s forest raking “rings true– to a degree”

Today’s Guest Post is brought to you by Perry Gaskill.

Just when you think the news media’s anti-Trump hysteria is to the point of needing a soaking down with a cold water hose, they can surprise you. In a story updated on Sunday, Phil Matier and Andy Ross, two writers who have long shared a column at the San Francisco Chronicle said that although President Trump might not have presented all the facts, he’s generally correct in calling bad forest management a big part of the recent California fires.

The smoking gun, so to speak, is from California’s Little Hoover Commission in the form of a forest management report which considered not only drought conditions, but also a broad range of other issues. It’s called Fire on the Mountain:

The report outlines factors that have led to the current forest crisis, including years of poor or nonexistent management policies, and the recent drought and a beetle infestation that killed an estimated 129 million trees across the state — trees that could go up in flames.

It being California, the Little Hoover report has obviously found detractors. Among them have been both the John Muir Project and the Sierra Club. Their main argument appears to be, without putting too fine a point on it, that loggers are meanies and poopie heads.

A pilot and passenger, both WWII veterans, were killed when a vintage World War II airplane crashed into the parking lot of an apartment complex Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg.

The crash destroyed the P-51 Mustang plane and several cars, according to Austin television station KTBC.

Cowden Ward, the pilot and owner of “Pecos Bill,” has offered hundreds of rides to veterans at annual reunions since 2013, National WWII Glider Pilot Association chairman Otto Lyons wrote in a statement.

Ward, of Burnet, flew a B-17 in the war and started the Pecos Bill Freedom Flyers to take WWII veterans and Purple Heart recipients on flights, the foundation said in a Facebook post.

“We hope that everyone will remember his infectious smile, his passion for flying our nation’s veterans, and above all remember him for the amazing pilot, friend and caring person he was,” the post said.

State Sen. Kim Ward, ‘red-blooded woman,’ went for gun to ward off intruder
    Gideon Bradshaw

Within hours of when she’d been prepared to shoot an alleged intruder if he came through the kitchen door of her mother’s Chartiers Township home, state Sen. Kim Ward was ready to joke about the chain of events that had threatened to erupt in violence.

“At 4:00 AM I woke up to pounding somewhere on the side of the house, followed by frantic bell ringing of the kitchen door bell,” Ward wrote in a “totally true, almost” Facebook post just before 7 a.m. Sunday. “As any red-blooded American woman would do I jumped out of bed (and) grabbed my gun… When I got to the kitchen I knew the situation was under control because my brother was standing by the kitchen door aiming his cane and ready to pounce.”

Soon after the scare at Ward’s mother’s home, Anthony M. Buchanan, 24, of Washington, was arrested at another house nearby. He’d allegedly forced his way into the attached garage, where the homeowner held Buchanan at gunpoint until a township police officer spotted them.

  • Argentine Navy submarine may have ‘imploded’

tr1700The missing Argentinian submarine has been discovered 2,600 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean.

photos show wreckage on sea floor
By Travis Fedschun | Fox News

The Argentine submarine that was lost deep in the sea with 44 crew members on board may have suffered from a partial implosion close to the seabed, a senior official said Sunday as officials released photos of the wreckage.

The country’s navy announced Saturday that the ARA San Juan was discovered at a depth of 2,975 feet in the waters off the Valdes Peninsula and was surrounded by a field of rubble, with underwater turbulence making visibility difficult.

Naval Capt. Enrique Balbi said the working theory was that the vessel had partially imploded while at sea, deep down near the seabed, Sky News reported.

Photos released on Sunday showed the wreckage of the submarine in the Atlantic Ocean, with sections of the vessel lying on the ocean floor. Parts of its propellers were buried and debris was scattered up to 230 feet away.

The pieces of the submarine, which included a propeller and the sub’s bow with torpedo launching tubes, had been “crushed inwards,” according to Balbi.

  • Crime Plummets After QuikTrip Stores Add Good Guys with Guns

    Awr Harkins
QuikTrip convenience stores added good guys with guns in Wichita, Kansas, and the results were so good that they are expanding the program to stores in other areas.

The NRA noted, “After implementing the new strategy at its Wichita, Kansas locations and seeing success, QuikTrip, the massive gas station and convenience store chain said it would expand the policy to other stores.”

KWCH reports that the good guys with guns will be armed security, but QuikTrip also left the door open to armed clerks in situations where the clerks “have previous experience and necessary licenses.”

QuikTrip stores in Tulsa will soon get good guys with guns, as those stores are the targets of repeated crime.

KTUL spoke with QuikTrip’s Mike Thornbrugh about adding good with guns in the Tulsa area. He said, “The police and sheriff’s department has bent over backwards to help us, and we really appreciate it. But there’s simply not enough of them to make a dent. That’s where the armed employees come in.”

Hardin County man faced with the decision to open fire on suspected home burglars
    Author: Parris Kane

At around 3:30 in the morning, Travis Yust was faced with a tough decision, to pull the trigger or let the men he believed to be responsible for breaking into his home get away.

BATSON — Travis Yust has lived in Batson all his life, but on November 8th he was forced to realize it’s no longer the safe town where he grew up.

In a matter of minutes, Yust went from sleeping peacefully in his home, to protecting it. At around 3:30 in the morning, Yust was faced with a tough decision, to pull the trigger or let the men he believed to be responsible for breaking into his home get away.

“My wife woke me up and said the dogs are barking and our door beeped,” explained Yust.

Yust said they have a home alarm, but it wasn’t activated that night. The door, however, beeps every time it’s opened. He said he assumed the wind blew open the door.

“I turned on the light and noticed that my gun safe door was wide open, and right then I panicked,” said Yust, “I said, I’ve been robbed.”

Yust ran outside and grabbed his thermal imaging scope. He managed to spot the alleged thieves hiding across the street on the property of one of his relatives.

“I immediately went and grabbed my rifle, mounted my scope onto the rifle, grabbed a pistol, and headed off down the driveway,” said Yust.
