Thursday morning feel good stories

Amy and UpNorth send us a story from Houston, Texas about a local community college basketball player who was shot to death when he broke into a neighbor’s house and threatened a young child with his knife. After the encounter with the child, the burglar had an altercation with the man of the house, the homeowner shot the thief in his leg. He was DOT (dead over there) at the hospital.

In San Bernadino, California, a teen pulled out a gun to rob a liquor store. Two clerks responded by pulling out their firearms from beneath the counter and firing first. The teen is expected to survive. It looks like the gun he pointed at the clerks was a realistic-looking BB gun.

A homeowner shot a man he caught breaking into his residence in Orange County, Florida. The thief is expected to survive his injuries.

An off-duty Houston, Texas police officer was trying to complete the sale of a firearm from an internet conversation when the buyer pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the officer, but the gun malfunctioned. The officer then shot the attacker who turned up at a fire station with his wound.

In Columbia, South Carolina, Gilbert Lewis tried to rob a convenience store with a gun that he used to whack the clerk in the head. The clerk chased him from the store with a baseball bat. But, young Gilbert’s troubles were over – his family saw the video from the robbery and turned hi into the police. This one makes me feel best, thanks, 3E9, for the link.

  1. More than “just a leg shot”, a femoral artery severance is not a good thing. This is one home invader that will not continue on that “wrong path in life”. 3 more wounded and one beat by his own family. Theives have no where to hide when good people have a say.

    1. What CNN left out of the story is whether the daughter lived at the home, or was just trying to visit, apparently after the residents went to bed.
If she lived there, or not, and knew her father’s occupation, one would think she would have said, “hi, I’m home” or words to that effect.
Searching for other news on the shooting, it’s learned that the daughter was visiting, she didn’t live there. “The mother was asleep when she heard someone enter her home late Tuesday, St. Cloud police Sgt. Denise Roberts said Wednesday. The mother told police she heard footsteps approaching quickly so she fired a single shot”.

      1. If anyone comes home late, their friends come to raid the Fridge or spend the night, they yell…. I’M HOME Reb! WE NEVER PUT OUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER, UNLESS WE’RE GOING TO FIRE! Stupid mother and she’s never going to forgive herself…..

    2. The commenter above (91A10) has a history of presenting half-truths here, selectively, slanted and “spun” to support his or her political agenda. The individual probably has a bright future as a journalist. Or perhaps as a carnival midway barker.

    3. Do you have anything remotely approaching a point or should we just keep on mocking your lack of ability to post the whole story?

    4. Gee whiz specialist, I guess I will go throw all my guns in a deep river. OK, done. I sure am glad you are so much smarter than the rest of us gunnuts. How did we survive?

  2. Poor Melvin, he no longer has a meal ticket to the NBA, now he is worm food & hanging out with St. Skittles & St. Swisher.

    1. Yeah, NBA was going to be his ticket out of “the ‘hood”. Pretty upscale looking ‘hood if you ask me, comparable to what I’m living in.

  3. Nice and quiet in my neighborhood. Not so much far to the south of me. But it’s New Year’s Eve and I’m sure there will be some exciting stories to relay.

Each of these news stories should deliver the lesson to those considering engaging in outlaw behavior, that they should reconsider their options and find a new and legal way to make money or get stuff.
