Mugger targets female UFC fighter, ends up in the hospital

When a would-be thief saw 26-year-old Polyana Viana waiting for a taxi on Saturday outside her Rio de Janeiro apartment, he apparently concluded she was easy prey.He asked her what time it was, she reportedly said, before trying to bully her into giving him her cellphone. He also told her he had a gun.
She quickly sized up the situation – it’s second nature for the UFC straw-weight, who has won 10 of her 12 professional fights.
“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it,’” she told MMAJunkie.com in an interview. “So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.’”

Suspected burglar shot and killed at southside apartment complex
A suspected burglar was shot and killed by a resident at a southside apartment complex this evening.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the Hampton Port Apartments. These apartments are located on the 6100 block of Wooldridge Road near Cimarron Boulevard.
Police say their preliminary investigation shows a 41-year-old suspect tried breaking into an upstairs apartment. The 68-year-old man living in the apartment confronted the alleged intruder and then shot and killed him. Police are calling it self-defense.
“The 68-year-old resident feared for his safety, and he fired striking the suspect,” said CCPD Officer Travis Pace.

DA decides not to file charges against El Cajon homeowner who shot break-in suspect

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — The District Attorney has decided against filing charges against a man who reportedly shot and killed a suspect trying to break into his work truck in El Cajon.The shooting happened on the 1100 block of Mona Place in March of 2018.
Authorities say Michael Poe woke up in the early-morning hours of March 11 to the sound of glass shattering. When he went outside, he found the suspect, Joseph Mercurio, breaking into his work truck.
Poe told police there was a confrontation before he shot Mercurion. Mercurion’s mother told 10News her son had a drug problem, but was doing his best to stay sober.
